Nigeria's fuel scarcity
2007-01-13 05:35:00
Despite Nigeria is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), her citizens still suffers in order to get fuel for their daily use. OPEC is an international organization made up of Algeria, Angola, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. This trend started a long time ago and the ugly incident raised its head in December 2006 when most of the Nigerians are gearing up for the Christmas, Sallah and New Year holidays.   Can the President Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources tell us what is happening to our oil? Coming through the roads now is like a journey of no return; you have to pay through your nose before getting to your destination. I am angry on the Nigeria's current situation because it seems not all the sectors are working. NEPA or PHCH cannot give me 2 hours stable power supply, my representatives in the natio

Breaking News: Another pipeline blasts
2006-12-26 09:01:50
It has happened again. Another pipeline blasts occured at Abule Egba, Lagos. It has been reported that over 100 people had been roasted to death. My Perspective: What is responsible for this? Poverty or what?   Going out in Lagos city has been “war” because you have to pay 3 times of normal transport fare. Government should find solution to these blasts and fuel scarcity in NIgeria

Obasanjo vs. Atiku
2006-12-22 09:54:51
It is very laughable in the last few months on the issues surrounding President Olusegun Obasanjo and his deputy, Atiku Abubakar public disagreement. The first issue was the Petroleum Training Development Fund (PTDF) where the two parties were accusing each other of withdrawing our money for their personal and aides' uses. Just yesterday, Obasanjo denied Atiku the presidential jet for his (Atiku) holiday.      However, Atiku was adopted as the Action Congress presidential candidate for the 2007 elections. It is not clear what actions the presidency and PDP will take on his acceptance of AC's ticket. Only time will tell!

Craziness on Lagos roads
2006-12-20 05:45:42
I have been wondering lately what Lagos has become, especially as Christmas, Sallah and New Year holidays are approaching. Getting through Ikeja (Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway) yesterday was "hell" because a truck caught fire and nobody was on hand to put off the fire or clear it off the road. Thank goodness, it has been evacuated this morning. Besides, due to the scarcity of fuel, the transportation fare has gone up by 100% and I wonder when this will end. This will surely change if there are more supplies of petroleum and roads may be free in Lagos because majority of people are traveling to their villages and towns for the yuletide season.   However, Lagos needs more access roads in order to reduce the congestion and our precious time will be saved.

My Lagos Daily Memoir
2006-12-08 05:24:39
Lagos is located in the South West of Nigeria and its one of the populous Cities in the world.  My first visit to Lagos was in the early 80's, still young boy then. Since then I have been a visitor during my secondary school holidays but finally I have to be a part of the city after my secondary school education. I had my Bsc. Degree from Lagos State University, which gave me the opportunity of knowing Lagos more.   However, recently I have been having a lot of "headache" because of the traffic conditions in the metropolis. There are traffic enforcement agencies around the city but the condition has never improved. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials mandated to check on the excesses of the Lagos drivers have not been helping matters as they contributes a lot of bottle necks on the roads.   From Mile 2 to Badagry, there is only one route that links this international road to Benin Republic and the neighboring countr

Nigerian Democracy and Good Governance: - The Youth as a Tool of Positive Change
2006-11-01 08:48:11
Since Nigeria returned to democracy in May 1999, after almost three decades of military rule, and almost two decades of economic crises, the country has been faced with the complex challenges of national reconciliation, national reconstruction and economic reform. The most urgent issue in Nigeria currently is the issues of democracy, understood not only as an end to military rule but also as the establishment of responsive and responsible political institutions which promote a government that is accountable, prevent corruption, respect human and civil rights, and ensure popular sovereignty. In the midst of these, Nigerian youth have great roles to play to support what the present administration is doing since 1999 when the country backed to democratic system of government. But there are so many factors impeding Nigerian youth as a part of our democratic process growth. The factors are unemployment, non-availability of good and sound education, non-access to good social amenities such a

Crime Prevention Tips from the Nigerian police
2007-12-05 09:40:33
Crime Prevention Starts With You And Your Family More often than not, crimes occur because we open ourselves and our families to criminal opportunities. Talking to strangers, absence of security procedures for anonymous callers, taking for granted one’s safety outside the home, etc. make us easy prey to criminals. In the fight against crime, knowing that the worst can happen makes you less prone to be a victim and more confident of avoiding disasters. Protecting yourself, your family and your home is a matter of responsibility that cannot be taken on by anyone else. You can make the difference. Securing your Home and your Belongings There are three things you can do to help reduce burglary: Make your home burglar-proof. Mark your belongings that burglars are most likely to steal. Be alert to report suspicious persons and unusual activities to the police before a crime may occur. What you can do to Secure Your Home Ensure all doors and windows have locks in
