cookie crisis
2007-11-10 06:42:20
It’s cookie-making season again! Obviously, because of the diabetes, I’ve never been big on making cookies, but of course the boys love them, so I will make them around this time of year. and then hide them so they aren’t consumed all in one sitting! I’ve never had a whole lot of strength in my hands, and with the tendonitis and thickening of ligaments in my hand, it’s become harder to do some things. ,,,like making cookies!! Used to, Tommy would help me with the stirring part. Then as the boys got to be around 12 or so, they’d help stir up cookies. But now that Tommy stays busier than ever and the boys both have their own things going on and are gone a lot of the time, it’s up to me to make cookies on my own. I could NOT do that without my stand mixer! Tommy got one for me about 5 years ago and I LOVE it! It’s really nice to be able to put a cookie recipe in there or potatoes, etc. and then just switch it on and get on with some

HA! we have tile!
2007-11-17 10:12:28
*whew!* It’s finally finished. The laying, setting and grouting, that is! I DO have pictures. Really I do! But they’re on the SD card, which is currently in the camera, which is currently outside via Corey, who is taking pix of the big pouring of the garage footers event going on right now! And it is MUDDY out there! Gross! I’m just NOT going out there to fetch that thing! Having to clean sticky mud and gravels out of my shoes is just not worth it! But I’ll have them for you SOON! (I know. You’re getting tired of hearing that, aren’t you?!) The kitchen is going well, I guess. Who knew it would take 2,000 moppings to get that sandy grout off of everything!! I mop. It hazes over. I mop. It hazes over. I mo… Well, I think you get the idea. ARGH! But I have to say, the floor, once dehazed, will look TERRIFIC!!! Just wait til you see the awesome pattern Tommy laid. I’m so proud of him! It took A LOT of extra time to do,

medical insurance is hard to find!
2007-11-16 14:46:06
Advantage Medical Quotes Wait. It’s not that it’s hard to find, but that it’s hard to GET! If it wasn’t for not being a millionaire, I could just forgo medical insurance altogether. But I ain’t, so I cain’t! I HAVE TO HAVE HEALTHCARE INSURANCE!!! We’ve been through the gauntlet trying to find decent medical insurance for our family by ourselves. It’s so lovely to start getting these calls with offers of insurance coverage, then when you have to answer that all-important question and have to say, “I have diabetes” and most of the time? You will then hear the phone click indicating that the caller has hung up on you without a word! It’s like I have leprosy or something!! And it makes me plenty mad, too!!! If you’re in this situation, looking for the best, lowest priced medical insurance quotes, then you have to do your research. Being able to save money on health insurance is worth the time you spend lookin

paintball store!
2007-11-15 22:50:45
I don’t know about you, but I have had some paintball-lovin’ boys living here since about 5 years ago. It was a relief for them to get into that INSTEAD OF racing gokarts. I mean, it’s amazing what kinda things you will be thankful for given the right circumstances, eh? So anyway, they’ve had a lot of fun with paint ball and still do from time to time. Now with them getting all grown and working and busy with fiances and hunting and going to the gym, etc., etc… they have a harder time finding the time for it, let alone finding other guys to play with. BUT something I wish I’d known about when they were constantly needing yet more paintballs and supplies, is this site: paint ball guns They have all the brands the kids love like Tippmann, Spyder, Smart Parts, Dye, Empire, and Draxxus. They have paintballs, gear, safety gear and gear bags. They have all the upgrades and paintball gun package of all kinds so for a brand new paintballer, theyR

in the home stretch!
2007-11-15 22:41:10
I know, I know!! I’ve been promising pix and yet none have shown up for your delight. *tsk, tsk!* I am so bad! You won’t believe this, though… we really are in the home stretch now!! It’s about 11:40pm as I’m typing and Tommy just declared the kitchen “Tiled and Grouted”!!!! Oooh! *beauty pageant winner style* I can’t believe it!! *fans face with hands* This is such an unexpected surprise! *said with all the humility of a prize filly* *ahem!* Yep. Just a few mere moments ago, we turned the boys loose from their kitchen flooring duties to get showered and in bed, and *gasps and proceeds to bite lip anxiously* Houston, we have tile!!! Okay, okay… so it’s not like all cleaned up and sealed and all that jazz. BUT PEOPLE! IT’S FINALLY IN THE LAST STAGE!!! Of course now Tommy is lining people up to come pour the walls for the garage and yes, there’s still three more rooms to put tile in (and the backer board

sad and intriguing at the same time…
2007-11-14 00:19:11
I’m sure many will be rather “put off” by the subject of this post, but don’t say you weren’t warned… I got in on a really interesting tv show the other night. It was Wild Child: The Story of Feral Children I’d never heard the term “feral children” and if I’d heard it first before seeing the program, I would have probably immediately changed the channel. But I didn’t. I caught a bit of the show while channel surfing, and before I knew what was happening, I was engrossed. I did a search of the term online today and wound up on a really informative site called FeralChildren.com Go check out the personal experiences if you want firsthand chilling accounts of how cruel adults can be to children. And sometimes, being cruel is not even the proper assessment. They just flat don’t care, or are incapable of caring for their child/ren, or … well, for the most part, they don’t care about the child/ren. The

of garage flooring…
2007-11-21 14:13:40
As you know, if you’ve paid the least of attention around here, we will soon be concerning ourselves with a garage floor. And not just ANY garage floor, but a HUGE expanse of garage floor! I’m sure Tommy will pour the concrete himself, but after that, it may be that we will want to consider some sort of sealer or protectant. Or perhaps, there will be a need for an area of padded flooring tiles. Right now? I just flat don’t know! But it will come to making some sort of decision about how to protect our investment out there. Maybe you are or will be having the same sort of dilemma about some of your garage flooring and that’s where carguygarage.com come in! I’ve been over there scoping out all the options car guy offers and it’s a little mind-boggling!! They offer several different options for garage flooring, which include something called diamond flooring that comes in an massive color assortment. Looks perfect for a real mechanic-man garage

strained relations
2007-11-20 08:03:15
Casey went with a friend of ours Friday to go hunting. Actually, they scouted Friday and Casey spent the night over there and they went out early the next morning. I didn’t heard anything from him. I don’t think anyone else had either. So I called him that night. (on his cell) He was so … well, snotty is the first word that comes to mind. But that doesn’t accurately describe how he was. He was very obviously wasn’t interested in talking to me. He spoke as if I was interrupting him terribly. He gave short, monotone, curt answers to my questions. And my questions were things like “How did it go today?” “Did you guys see anything?” (meaning animals) “You doing okay, then?” “What are you doing now?” (he was watching a movie) I dunno. I guess I just keep expecting him to start treating me better. I know he’s a teenager, yadda, yadda… I don’t believe that being a teen excuses ru

on the importance of a prominent address display - done tastefully!
2007-11-20 07:46:58
Out here in the country, there aren’t a whole lot of those kind of house numbers except for on the mailboxes. However, it’s a hassle trying to keep the box painted so that the numbers show. And I know VERY well how important it is for emergency (& police department, etc!) to be able to easily and quickly identify your address! Address signs and plaques not only serve the practical purpose of making it easier for friends, family, delivery drivers or fire/ambulance emergency crews to find your address, but they can also be attractive accents to your home or business. These home address plaques from the Artificial Rocks Factory are a really useful and elegant way to make your address pop! Address plaques, address signs and address markers can be located on a home or business’ mailbox or structure, but having a beautiful rock with mounted address plaque is the decorative touch that can really make give your place a distinctive look and feel. I know ya’ll

on revenge and its futility (Sweeney Todd)
2007-11-29 14:35:06
So, this post is about a new Johnny Depp movie called Sweeney Todd The best I can tell from looking around the site is that this is a cross between The Count of Monte Cristo [I like the one w/Gerrard Depardeau best!] and Fried Green Tomatoes annd Edward Scissorhands. Just read the first synopsis of the tale and you have the man who is set up and sent to prison just because it will best suit the situation of the person sending him there. Then you have, um…*ahem*… the mysterious “meat pies” which are WAY too reminiscent of the phenomenal BBQ served in Idge Threadgoode’s Whistle Stop Cafe. *heh* (I love that movie, btw!) And it reminds you of Edward because of, well… you’ll see the connection immediately without any help from me. *heh* Oh and I have to tell you that both Sweeney Todd and Scissorhands are Tim Burton films! Of course there’s a connection! But the main scheme of this movie is revenge. If you’ve read or watched

win 4 free tickets at Trusted Tours!
2007-11-29 10:05:29
Trusted Tours and Attractions is a new site I’ve come across that is really interesting! They schedule full-blown tours of places all over the USA from Atlanta to Washington DC! The site is really easy to navigate. Choose a city from the left sidebar and it will open up a whole list of different types of tours, from Segway Sightseeing to tours by boat, trolley and car! Some tours are done in vehicle that go on both land AND water! Woo! Then along the top are tabs with maps, hotels, weather info, photos and city information. You also get the prices of the different tours as well! How cool is that? A place that just jumped out at me is Savannah, Georgia. I dunno, there’s just always been something about living in a place called “Suh-vann-uh” that’s so rich in southern culture, history, architecture and old town charm would just be extremely enjoyable. (I dunno if I’d feel that way in the middle of summer, but still… Click on the Savan

my poor hubby…
2007-11-29 09:41:55
He is SO stressed! PLEASE PRAY! I had hoped that getting the tile done would help ease his “have to absolutely no matter what get this done” kinda worries, but as is the case with life, there’s always something waiting to fill the slot. He has a lot of petty crap going on at work. I don’t think there has ever been another guy who held Tommy’s position who has had to do all the things he is having to do. I mean that the others, for whatever reason (and some legitimate) haven’t had sooooo many things to oversee. Over the years, there have been new issues arise that have had to get a whole new list of “rules” and “guidelines” and along with, a stack of paper work. Ya get what I’m trying to say? Now add way too many sorry-(U-know-what!) “men” who like nothing better than to whine about who got to do what when and why didn’t “I” get to do that? When that “I” wouldn’t li

gotta work on this page!
2007-11-21 14:19:16
I am seriously disgusted with it! bah! I am considering branching out and opening another blog, as if I NEED something else to nag my mind! LOL! Actually, ‘nag’ is too harsh a word because I’d like nothing more than to do a LOT of blog hopping and working on this place. It’s just become almost impossible to find the time anymore. *INSERT SAD, SAD FACE HERE* I’m really thrilled with the money I’ve made in the past 3.5 weeks with PayPerPost. I mean, other than worrying with a few mistakes and getting to know how the site worked, it’s been just about the easiest money I’ve ever made. It’s sometimes hard to get in on a good paying opp because they get gone soooo fast, and that’s irritating, but since you’re allowed to post up to three paid opps a day, you can still make some money. If I could get my page rank up some, I could get access to the higher paying opps, too. Gotta work on that. *SIGH* I’ll try to p

on the improving of the home
2007-11-21 01:26:09
Waaaah! Where do I begin?!? I hope you didn’t miss the slideshow post from a few days ago. I have more pix I need to get taken before it’s forevermore too late! GASP! For instance, we finally got the tile done in the kitchen, meaning that we still have aaaaall the tile for the two bathrooms and the utility room stacked up in here. I’m okaaay with that, but I worry, too. I’ve been through the whole I’ll-do-that-after-I-do-this phenomenon. It goes something like this: We get a big part of a project completed or at least started and then something else breaks down or something more pressing comes along and there it is. BAM! That Honey, I promise, I’ll finish this as soon as I can. Just like that. POOF! He’s gone and I have a partially finished whatever. *sigh* Tommy has SO many actual, real distractions that have nothing to do with a sports season or a tv show. That dadblasted pager of his would drive anyone nuts! I don’t know

how does mystery shopping help?
2007-12-05 21:21:25
I wondered about this for years. What was it like to be a mystery shopper? Then I talked to some folks who’d done it before and found out a bit about the whole process and I understood more about the shopper, or evaluator, side of it. But did you ever wonder what’s really in it for the company hiring the mystery shopper? That will depend on the information the company wants to get or whichf opinions they want to know. I don’t know how much it costs to hire a mystery shopping service, but depending on what the company intends to do with the information, it could be very well worth the money. The company could request incident-specific information. They could be looking to check up on a store’s performance in customer service. How about testing employees product knowledge? A mystery shopping service would be great for getting “real” data on just what you want to know about your company’s overall performance in many different areas. Do you

what do you get for…
2007-12-05 20:40:26
…the man who needs new dress shirts, but is impossible to fit without trying on AND he’d rather have a mechanic’s creeper or a monster tool cabinet instead? ARGH!! My husband is impossible to buy for!!! He could use a new pair of black dress shoes, too, but yeah… you guessed it. He needs to try those on, too, to know what fits. He’s had the boys looking online at things like neon Ford clocks (to hang in the ‘garage’) and those tin parking signs and crap! No wonder I can’t buy for him. It’s like trying to buy useful things for a man who only wants to shop at Toys R Us!!! Sheesh! Any ideas?? C’mon! Help a gal out, wouldja?

safe and affordable firefighter training?
2007-12-05 20:37:44
Yes, it’s possible thanks to a new simulator called Fireblast. Not only do they offer training for firefighters using their fire fighting equipment, but for those in the police and security fields, search and rescue and disaster management as well. The simulators they have are really very cool. You should take a look just to satisfy your curiosity. I never thought much about training for these kinds of occupations. I mean, though my boys’ involvement with EMS here, I knew about planned burns for training and such, but how much safer to have additional training with one of these simulators? By all means, if you’re in the market for something like this, you owe it to yourself to check out Fireblast541.com.

wow! who left the gifts?
2007-12-05 12:16:06
So, yeah. I thought I’d try to decorate a bit around here. Therefore all the stuff I’m supposed to have up here is not. Give me a little time, okay? Thanks. Oh, and Happy Christmas tree to you!

brrr! it’s getting cold around here
2007-12-04 15:16:28
Even though we’ve already had a couple of “snows” (meaning there were teensy tiny flakes that could be seen if one watched long enough), the forecasters are now calling for actual snow showers for tonight and tomorrow. That’s great! I mean, hey, I live in Kentucky alright? We haven’t had a good snow storm in a good 13 years! Not since I was pregnant with Casey, actually. So yeah, I’m ready for a good snowfall. BUT NOT TOMORROW!!! Remember that endo appointment I have? The one that Melissa was going to go with me, but then she wasn’t because she got called into work? The one where Tommy was going to take off to go with me? Well, I just heard from him that he’s still taking off, but he can’t go with me. There could be some potential problems with the concrete tomorrow. The forms are done and the top half of the wall is ready to be poured, but with the rain we’ve had, the guys are worried that the truck might get stuck

temporary corporate housing in fire damaged areas…
2007-12-04 14:58:00
As everyone knows, many people have lost their homes in the fires in California. Some permanently! We all wait impatiently and expect to see United Way, the Red Cross, FEMA, etc. officials come rolling into town forthwith! And rightly so. But did you ever wonder where, with so many residents seeking an immediate solution to their own loss of housing, where do these officials stay while they’re there on the job? The insurance agents, the non-government companies that help with home restoration after fire and flood. Where do these people stay? Right now in the Southern California and San Diego area National Corporate Housing has corporate apartments available and will help you find a place to stay while you’re working to help those in need. They have options for individuals, corporations and companies and their rates are competitive. Call them for rates and available locations. National Corporate Housing

i don’t have much to say today…
2007-12-04 14:44:10
Oh SHUT UP! You know what I mean! I’m feeling really tired. I’ve been trying to get more sleep since late last week, but apparently I still haven’t caught up. *blah* We’re still plugging away on the Christmas stuff. Yeah, I know it’s taking forever, but I’m still just not really into it. And I do tend to decorate the entire house, too. I can’t seem to help myself. I did finally get several boxes emptied and the everyday stuff stored in those, but they haven’t been taken back up to the attic yet. Maybe this evening I can get one of the guys to haul those up out of the way for me. And I don’t have my special helper today either. So really, it’s her fault I’m not finished. Isn’t that right Moe-lissa? She did call just now to say she’s going with me to Lexington Thursday so that’s something. I have an endo appointment that morning. I kinda dread it because I know I’ve gained a ton
