working hard
2007-10-16 12:39:35
corey and tommy started at about 5:30 friday evening, after working all day (tommy does have a regular job, y’know!), on a job for my dad that had kinda got outta hand. it’s a multi-level office building with a leak underneath the solid (no crawl space - concrete slab) foundation! dad and crew were just not able to locate the leak. so dad called tommy in. that was the day dad slipped and really bummed up his left knee. argh. they sent dad home, since he couldn’t do anything ‘cept boss (lol) and they worked from 6am friday through, straight through, til 9:30pm saturday night!!! YIKES! i don’t know how they do that. :s poor guys!

RAIN!
2007-10-22 17:50:25
Wow! We’ve had a full, complete day of rainy weather today! Not just rainy, but with actual precipitation! HOO-WEE! Like a lot of the country, we are in desperate need of rain. Just this weekend, Tommy and I went to that 4H certification in the Lake Cumberland area. As we crossed a section of the lake, it was truly horrifying to see how low the water was. In some spots, it looked more like a dried up bog than a “low lake”. There was grass growing where the water had receded!! So anyway… today I am very grateful for a good saturating rain!

of mortgages…
2007-10-22 14:27:32
*whew!* Mortgages!! Well, as most of you know, we have been all over the place with finding a loan to refinance our home and use some equity to get a cash-out so as to build the garage, etc. Like any good American in the middle to low ‘wealth’ category, we shopped for the cheapest rate we could find! And I’ve told ya’ll… it’s been a pretty brain-rattling experience! When you shop, you need to be aware of buy to let mortgages, in my opinion. We have been through the whole somebody-else-owns-my-mortgage-now scenario, and it is not a comfy feeling. I like to know who I’m dealing with, ya know? It’s just good sense to shop around and compare these companies to each other! There are many good places to compare cheap mortgages. That is one possible site to start you out. I suggest you seek for the best one for your situation! As I’ve said in previous posts, comparing mortgages can be unnerving at times, but in my personal experie

for the coffee addicts
2007-10-16 09:20:54
i think… not positive… but i’m pretty sure i am becoming a…. coffee snob!! after hearing about, reading of and even (gasp!) seeing the things in the movies… i finally broke down and ordered myself a french press. or press pot, as some call them. i just wondered how in the world something so simple and almost primitive, could make such great coffee so that the coffee afficienados the world over were singing its praise! so, finally i broke down and ordered one. mainly because i could get a free 1/2 pound sample of coffee too! where? from coffeeam.com. i mentioned placing an order with them in one of my sponsored posts about coupon sites. so, the thing came. i read the directions, which were very simple and stressed the importance of “course ground” coffee. course ground? to a coffee drinker who was committed neither to fresh ground whole beans nor pre-ground premium, but rather fluttered in between… well, i thought course groun

something everyone should see…
2007-10-26 11:57:55
did you hear about the new (new? did he ever do any other movie? hmm…) anyhow…BEN STEIN has a movie coming out in February called: EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed click to see the trailer what’s it about? well, as the title might imply, it has to do with schools and the like. it’s about the way darwinism and the evolution theory are the only lessons schools (the government?) allow to be taught to kids AND how people (teachers, professors, students) who dare to question the grand evolution fantasy are treated. i was so excited to learn about this and i can’t wait to go over reviews and then to see it in the theater. people have to support this! make it very profitable or else we might as well support the other side, ya know? so anyway… go on over and watch the trailer, read about the movie and then spread the word!

black friday? opt for online!
2007-10-23 17:59:05
Most everyone knows about Black Friday, right? The day after Thanksgiving that “officially” opens the Christmas shopping season. Almost every store will have special sales events targeted just for this day. For many, it’s the busiest, most lucrative day of the year! If you’ve ever shopped (or tried to!) on Black Friday, you know it can be a real killer! I’m not really fond of crowds, and really not fond of shopping crowds eager to snag every single BF sale item in the quickest way possible! YIKES! That’s why black friday ads is a good opportunity to look into! At black friday ads, you can comfortably shop the best BF deals at stores you love without all the hassle! As of right now, I’ve had no luck finding a store that has already listed their BF specials, but you can find some interesting discounts on their discount codes page. For instance, this discount for Kohl’s for free shipping on any $75+ purchase! You can sign up for email a

on bloggin’ for money…
2007-10-22 19:43:17
Well, so far, so good. I’ve been learning lots of things since I started taking ads and writing sponsored posts. Hopefully, some of what I’ve learned will be interesting, and maybe even helpful, to you! First of all, there are some great programs out there that either offer traffic, links or the opportunities you need to do this kinda thing. And they are, for the most part, easy to use! Some are not very user-friendly, but maybe that will come with time. I have high hopes. My biggest moolah maker by far has been Pay Per Post. You can sign up below if you think you want to try blogging for profit. Your Browser does not support IFrames: This form can not be rendered. Please visit PayPerPost to sign up. Pay Per Post will be the easiest way to start. You just sign up and look at the list of opportunities available to you. The only problems I’ve encountered with Pay Per Post is that sometimes, there just won’t be very many opps for people like me, with low pa

if we’d only known!
2007-10-22 18:06:21
I don’t know about you guys, but I am unfortunately all too familiar with the problems that bad credit can bring on you. Thank the Lord, we were able to just squeak under the line when we applied for our refi. But for years, due to lots of things, from stupid decisions to medical bills and handicapped vehicles, we have suffered the effects of bad credit. It’s hard to get anyone to review and/or update your files or to give any weight to extenuating circumstances. You work hard to repair your standing, paying bills off as quickly as you can, making sure to pay on time, if not early… but still. All they offer you are either “no’s” or ridiculously high interest rates. (and they expect this to help you HOW? oh yeah, they DON’T expect to help you cuz you’ve been labeled a deadbeat!) So anyhow, before I get wound up here, there a place to help you find the best offers out there for the “credit impaired”. Um, it really has a

I’ve decided all my blogging (or blog reading!) friends have abandoned me in disgust! I can’t decide if it’s because my writing has been so off for the last… um, YEAR!, or if it’s because I started doing sponsored posts. *sigh* I’m afraid it must have been more about my writing. *sob* I mean, there weren’t many people coming around when I made the decision to “go commercial” (yeah, right!!) And I agree wholeheartedly that my writing has taken a major downward direction in the past few years. This past year, most noticably. And, like I’ve said in past posts, it’s really NOT for lack of trying. I have maybe ten posts in my drafts folder simply because I just can’t seem to finish them. I guess this means I truly am old. It just takes me so long to pull my thoughts together, and the wit that used to come so quickly.. the creative drive I had in my writing/storytelling has just croaked. *wail* I hate it SO MUCH

so, it's my birthday.
2007-11-01 17:55:35
My fortieth birthday! Yeah. The day I’ve dreaded since my last birthday! And ya know what? It’s been really anti-climatic. I mean, I guess I’ve had time to get used to the idea of having passed through the thirties and entering into the forties!! So, what have I been doing for my birthday? Well, I got up at 5:30am and went to the gym with the guys. My three have been going for the past couple-a weeks, first for the freebie week, then they signed up. Tommy started going on a freebie week, and he got really interested in it too. So, after inquiring about a family plan, it was going to be cheaper to put us all on a membership. Hmm. So, I went yesterday and got all the changing done and a pass card for Tommy and me. So we went this morning. AND I’M STILL ALIVE!!! I really am shocked. But I’ll reserve any comments on my endurance levels after I see how I feel in the morning. On this past Tuesday, I met up with my friend ‘Diane’ for

our memories are important…
2007-11-01 16:32:42
I think we all know the benefits of preserving our memory, right? I know as I get a little older, I miss the way I used to be able to remember so many details, phone numbers, birthdays, social security numbers, etc. I miss those days BAD! That’s why National Memory Screening Day is so important! The Alzheimer Foundation of America instituted the National Memory Screening Day to help dementia and alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers. It’s part of their ongoing mission to serve that community with services and screenings and information. The NMSD is an effort toward early detection of dementia and alzheimer’s. The AFA organizes the screenings in conjunction with various other organizations and health care professionals across the United States, bringing them together for care. Participating sites offer free confidential memory screenings, as well as follow-up resources and educational materials to those concerned about memory loss. Please visit the

crazy doesn't begin to describe…pt 1
2007-11-01 16:06:09
…the stuff that’s going on around here! First of all, we got the money from our refi. We don’t have the first payment til December, which was SO great! The payment ended up being only like $20-something dollars more than it had been and that’s with the taxes and insurance escrowed! We have never had a loan that would escrow those things, so it’s always been a really dreaded thing when those two mega-bills came in! But now, praise the Lord! we don’t have to worry about them so much. It’s just be so much nicer to have those prepaid and let someone else pay them instead of us frantically searching for ways to afford the stupid bills in the first place. Only ONE YEAR did we ever have the property tax money saved up and that was a struggle to do each week. *sigh* That’s why I’m always thrilled to see how much smarter the boys are than we’ve been in the area of personal finance! Thank God for that! So anyway… we start

In response to a growing number of warranty claims being denied for online buyers, iFLOOR is adding up to $1,000,000 of warranty protection for all customers. In return, iFLOOR reserves the right to seek legal justice on behalf of their customers. Now I ask you, can you find a better deal than that? I seriously doubt it! Press Release: iFLOOR, America’s largest online flooring retailer, today announced a $1,000,000 limited warranty designed to protect its customers from predatory manufacturer policies that exclude warranty coverage from online purchases. The policy, which goes into effect immediately, offers up to one million dollars of coverage in the event that a customer’s warranty claim is denied specifically because they made their purchase online. Well, at Equipment Company of Los Angeles, honey you can FIND you a forklift. And how! They have forklifts from every major forklift company, they have various sizes of forklifts with many different features. If you can’t find the lift you’re looking for at ECLA, then they don’t MAKE what you’re looking for! Don’t bother renting that lift. If your business calls for you to have a reliable forklift or you depend on one every single day, see ECLA’s forklift sales to get what you need. Give them a look. medical transport: when you can't compromise!
2007-10-31 20:05:28
Most of us don’t think much about something like ‘air ambulances’, but did you ever think about what you’d look for if you did need one for you or a loved one? I’ve been looking around the site for Areo Care, a air ambulance service. They really seem to have the customer at heart. Having had quite a few older relatives who have need air transport , and then when my sons were active in emergency medical services, I’ve learned a bit about what the medical professionals providing air transport have to deal with. They have a lot more to consider than just keeping the patient breathing! And even though that’s their first priority, they must know some things about air craft and how air travel can affect a person’s health and much more. That’s why you want highly trained specialists watching over you when you must have air ambulance services. People like the great folks at Aero Care. Please go by and check out all the air ambulance ser

Okay. I have no idea why I did it, but I did. I “jined up” on Squidoo. I now have a lens! (to which I have to say…”but what if my other eye goes bad, doc?”) *pththt* So anyway… it’s a lens about diabetes. I really don’t know what to do with it now, but there’s a group there called Diabetic Information that I’d like to join. But I can’t. For whatever reason, over thar in Squidoo(doo?) they won’t let you join a group til your lens has “a certain amount” of rank. What that “certain amount” is isn’t clear, but I need that so I can get-n in this heyah group! Sheesh. Anyhow… would you mind checking it out to see what you think? I’d like opinions. I mean, when it comes to diabetes? There are literally THOUSANDS of topics to write about. That’s the way it is with those pesky metabolic diseases. Diabetes: Beyond The Third Decade So my main focus started out to

i was TOTALLY surprised!
2007-11-02 14:07:00
My birthday celebrations aren’t over yet. You might recall from this post how many food-involving dealies are/were planned out for my fortieth. (i’m working on being able to type that WITHOUT italics… gimme time) Remember how I said Tommy’s plan was for us to go out and eat yesterday evening? WELL, that, I discovered, was just a ruse! [WARNING: BUNNY TRAIL AHEAD!] Have I ever told you that my mom is kinda odd? Well, she is. I love her and all that, but her thinking is, well odd in some areas. For instance, when I was a kid and a friend would invite me over to some family-oriented celebration/thingie, when I went to ask mom if I could go, she would say something like “No. They don’t really want you to go. They’re just being nice.” Don’t ask me why. That’s just how she is. All that to say…. … she mentioned several days ago that, y’know, I had so many birthday meals, just one after another, *blah, bl

scary situations… when, where & how?
2007-11-13 16:54:14
Okay folks. I’ll admit it. I kinda like scary movies. Not gory or overly “ghostish”, but mildly spooky flicks. Stephen King? Yeah, I do enjoy his stuff. I don’t think I’ve ever read a single one of his books, but I’ve seen a lot of his movies. I can’t remember the last one I saw… but the one I remember most from recent times is IT. Mostly, I don’t think his movies are THAT scary. But they’re mysterious and they do tend to make the back of the neck bristle. I can handle that kinda thing. So to my subject…The Mist by Stephen King. The movie is coming out on the 23rd. I’m not big on going to opening day for anything but the JRR Tolkein movies or maybe the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. And then I went to matinees because they’re cheaper AND less crowded. *heh* The Mist? Well, it seems like a pretty simple plot to me. Although I don’t know any of the nitty gritty details. I’m

…all walk into a bar and the microwave says… *ahem* Oh. Um. That’s a different joke altogether!! ~~~ The title, however, is NOT a joke when that’s the all you have to cook with! And I didn’t even think about the daggone slow-cooker til this morning! The tile. Well, it’s… um…. it’s …. here. That’s about all I can tell you right now. Now wait. There’s a little more than that to it. It’s here and Tommy and I worked til almost 2am (from about 6pm) last Friday night on trying to just get the pattern we want worked out. Remember me telling you he not only doesn’t want to lay it the usual, plain-ol’ straight pattern, not only does he want to lay it in a diamond pattern but not just a regular ol’ diamond pattern. He wants to lay it diamond and bricked! Bricking is when the joints are staggered by half the width of the tile and you know what diamond is. So he’s like doing two patte
