32nd Week Of Pregnancy Update 2007-06-21 03:52:47 My doctor says I’m on my 33rd week of pregnancy. This calculation is based on the date of my last period. My last scan showed that I’m a week later than that though so I’m counting myself as being pregnant for 32 weeks.
The bump’s definitely getting bigger and sleeping at night is often painful. But I don’t have fluid retention, oedema, or what’s that word? Pre-eclampsia (I don’t fully understand what it is and why it happens but I don’t like the sound of it) ???!!!!
Now before you dismiss me as the kind of pregnant woman who breezes through pregnancy like she was no mortal being, let me tell you about my 32- week pregnancy woes.
My hormones are really kicking in. Have cried twice in the past week for no reason at all (and blamed my poor husband for it)
I’ve only just started feeling big blows on my tummy from the little one. I started to feel him move at 18 weeks and from that day onwards, all movements have been very slight, Read more:Pregnancy

Getting Organized For Baby 2007-06-19 05:22:29 On Organizing My Life In Preparation For The Baby
I used to be a reasonably organized person. I had a list of things to do for the day or the week and if I may say so, I had a degree of control as to where my life was heading.
I haven’t been this person for the past few years. When you’re working from home, it’s very easy to get into the habit of being slack. And I’m embarrassed to say that I have virtually sank into a state of mind that operates on the “whatever will be will be” lifestyle.
Truth is, it’s been fun. Almost liberating actually. When you’ve been working your a** of for the big guy — hoping to get that raise, aiming to be the best, pressured to conform to everyone’s idea of success, it is eye-opening to realize that life goes on and can even be just as great when you’re not chained to these societal expectations.
I’ve come to realized though that it seems I’ve tipped a bit too much to the other side. A Read more:Getting Organized
Baby Sling Carriers I’ve Chosen 2007-06-18 10:06:36
In a previous entry, I wrote that I am on a pregnancy mission to find the best baby sling carrier in the market. Well, after asking friends who’ve used them and some online research, I’ve finally found one that I believe fits my lifestyle. Yippee!
My research has revealed that it is not a baby sling I want. Technically, I am actually looking for a baby wrap.
So why a baby wrap?
Remember my four requirements? One of the most important thing I wanted was a “sling” that is NOT going to hurt my back (especially during very long walks or when the baby gets heavier). And as it turns out, this is one of the advantages of a baby wrap (slings are not ergonomically designed, I’ve read and carrying a baby for a long period of time could put a lot of strain on your back!)
I definitely liked this feature. So I’m buying a baby wrap soon.
Now for those of you who also plan to buy a baby sling carrier, you have to know that a baby wrap is not e Read more:Sling
Monthly Doctor Visit Update 2007-06-15 17:10:38 I went to see my doctor today for a general check-up.
I used to hate hospitals & doctors and tried to keep away from them as much as possible. But since I got pregnant, I started to look forward to every one of my doctor visits.
There’s something very comforting about the thought that a professional is monitoring my and my baby’s health. For a few minutes in the doctor’s office when she answers my questions and addresses my fears, I find myself feeling very content about my pregnancy. During those few minutes, I worry about nothing at all.
A routine check up in our local clinic usually includes knowing how much weight I’ve gained (worst part!), how my blood pressure is doing, and then listening to my baby’s heartbeat (my favorite part!).
Listening to the heartbeat is always fun – something that I ( and I assume most other women ) look forward to. I love my doctor most when she’s doing this. At first, she feels around my tummy to see my baby&rsq Read more:Doctor

Looking For The Best Baby Sling Carrier – A Pregnancy Mission 2007-06-15 17:08:20 (Photo Courtesy Of Flickr)I’m 100% certain I can live without it. But I really want to get a baby sling carrier.
The very first time I heard about it, I just loved it. I loved the idea of being able to carry my baby close to me. Also, I’ve never seen anyone using a baby sling in the small Spanish town where I live and I want to see the look on people’s faces when they see me sporting one! ( Many are very strict about how exactly you’re to take care of your children and if you shift from the norm that could be an issue — I wonder if they’ll hate me or love me for it).
I thought I knew exactly what kind of baby carrier I wanted — well, I wanted one that’s made of a long piece of cloth (not the $700 baby gucci sling that Gwen Stefani has). So I really thought this was going to be one of the easier baby gadget purchases I was going to make.
So wrong was I!
I’ve just discovered that there are many different kinds of baby sling carriers i Read more:Mission

A Diaper Bag Checklist Please 2007-06-15 17:05:12 This may sound really daft but what exactly do you put in a diaper bag?
OK. I know. Diaper
s. And what else? Can you believe I have no idea?
( Photo Courtesy Of Flickr )
I wanted to buy a diaper bag at the local Friday market today but just couldn’t decide what to get.
First of all, I don’t want a huge one as it emphasizes just how small I am. And since I’m going to be the one wearing it and not the baby, I definitely don’t want one of those that come in cutesy designs – so giraffes and mickey mouse images are out of the question.
I figured from looking at the baby diaper bags in our local store (which are way overpriced by the way) that I need something with a lot of pockets. Now how big does it have to be? Say I was just going out for a day’s excursion, just what baby stuff should there be in that all too important diaper bag?
At a complete loss as to what diaper bag to buy, I called for help from my younger sister who just had a baby. And God bless her Read more:Checklist

What The 1st Trimester Of Pregnancy Is Like 2007-06-25 14:00:30 I planned to document every thing about my pregnancy way before I even got pregnant. But when the 1st trimester of pregnancy came, I was just too tired, too nauseous and too lazy, that I could not be bothered to do anything.
In an effort to have a little piece of my pregnancy experience in print, I’ve decided to write a blog series on what the first trimester of pregnancy was like for me.
I will be writing about my own personal experiences as well as the knowledge I gained along the way from reading books, researching the internet and most importantly, from listening to friends’ experiences.
I’ll be adding an article or two per day. If you want to know when there’s a new entry on, you can subscribe to this blog using rss feeder or by email (links top right column of this page)
Listed below are titles of the articles I plan to write in the next few weeks.

Can You Be Pregnant And Not Know It? 2007-06-29 03:07:00 Question: Is It Possible To Be Pregnant And Not Know It?
Short answer? Yes!
And if you want proof that you can be pregnant but not know it, you can refer to the following articles:
OC Register
Hip Mama
The first time I heard about this, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing.
How in the world can you be pregnant and not know???!!!
A missed period! Hello!!!!???? Shouldn’t that give you a sign already?
The more I research about pregnancy though, the more I realized that this is far more commonplace than many news articles have us believe.
Go to some of the pregnancy forums online and you’ll very likely find a handful of women who have been pregnant for months and not know it.
So How Is This Possible?
Most of these women don’t show any symptoms of pregnancy — no nausea, no headaches, no sore nipples ( so I guess you can count them as one of the lucky ones! ) And often when they do have these symptoms, they still continue to have a monthly spotting, which co
The Top Signs Of Pregnancy – 7 Common Questions Answered 2007-06-28 10:48:10
I remember those days of anticipation. Those days of watching for signs of pregnancy, for any physical change that could possibly give me a clue that I was pregnant.
If you are at this stage – that stage when you’re eagerly anticipating changes you would otherwise not be too happy about ( headache? Cramps? Sore breasts? ), here’s my very own effort to hopefully put your mind at ease (But believe me, you will never be at ease until you get that positive test – and well, if you are pregnant, you will never be at ease for a very long time!).
So anyway, here are answers to some common questions about changes in your body that could indicate early stages of pregnancy.

? Your Questions Answered
1) Is discharge a sign of pregnancy?
Yes. A vaginal discharge could be a sign of pregnancy. Notice that this also happens when you’re about to have your period (which means it could just be Aunt Flow coming).

How I Knew I Was Pregnant 2007-06-26 05:17:43 I wish I could tell you that I knew I was pregnant because my body showed all the top 10 signs/symptoms of pregnancy. It didn’t. In fact, I didn’t feel anything at all (during the first 6 weeks that is – which I assume is the time when many of us are eager to know if we are pregnant or not).
I have, however, been very obsessive-compulsive for the past years about my monthly cycle. I knew that I had a 30-day regular cycle and that if any time during the month I get stressed, this gets delayed to 1-3 days. But very very unlikely to be more than a week.
On the month of December 2006, I was a week late and as far as I could remember, there was no significant stressful event the month before.
I was both excited and anxious of the prospect that I could be pregnant. I wanted to wait a week more but couldn’t so I bought a pregnancy test.
Early the following morning, I did the test and after a few minutes of eager anticipation, there was a faint blue line showing a positiv
Move Baby Move 2007-07-05 08:37:56 There are days when Baby B. can’t stop moving. Days when all he does is test the limits of my abdomen.
And then there are days like today when he plays the i-can-be-as-still-as-a-statue game. This has happened a few times before and now at 33 weeks, it still never fails to freak me out. Call it the crazy pregnant woman’s hormones, but whenever I feel there’s a decrease in fetal movements, the worst case scenarios start flashing in my mind.
I’ve talked about this with my doctor and she just gives me that all-too-knowing smile (another neurotic pregnant woman in the room look!). She then gently explains that everything is ok. She says it could be any one of these three:
There’s a change in the baby’s routine
I haven’t eaten a lot of sweets (well, I try not to. I already look like a cow!)
The baby has changed position making the movements less discernible. ( Which position? Behind my large intestines? Because I really don’t think there&rsqu
33rd Week Of Pregnancy Update 2007-07-04 08:19:27 I’m now on my 33rd week of pregnancy. I can still do an impressive 1-hour walk in the city (yippee!), but I’m also beginning to feel the third trimester strain.
It’s now difficult to do some work on the computer for a long period of time. Doing so only buys me a ticket to a night of uncomfortable swollen legs. So I try to get some rest after 3-4 hours– the purpose of which is to lie down to have my legs at the same level with my heart (some advice I read somewhere). But when you’re as pregnant as I am, there’s no such thing as a short rest. Lying down almost always means a long long time in dreamland. So my 30 minutes of rest usually ends up to 2 hours of loud snoring which is not so good for work (good I work at home).
Sleeping is increasingly becoming difficult especially when I eat too much at dinnertime. Baby B. doesn’t move much at night (he’s more of a day mover it seems), but the weight is becoming a bit too much to handle.

Top 10 Myths Of Pregnancy? 2007-07-03 17:12:27 I just read an article on the top 10 myths of pregnancy which was revealed by a physician who is also a member of the faculty at the Harvard Medical School.
I’ve known some of these pregnancy myths before I read this article but I was rather surprised to see that lying on your left side when pregnant is a myth. So I may be one of the more gullible ones but does this mean that most pregnancy books I’ve read advising this sleeping position is just bulls***? (And if I remember it right, one of the books is written by a very qualified physician! )
If it really is a myth then it’s one of the best myths ever. Wait till you’re 7 months pregnant and you’ll know why. Lying on your back is like having a ton of cement on top of you with the force of gravity giving you a damn good lesson on the laws of physics. So myth or not, I think it’s one very practical advice.
The myth on cats (No.6) is a very good one to know. I’ve heard of some families who actuall Read more:Myths

On Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy 2007-07-12 07:11:16
I’m not much of an alcohol drinker. I can live for a year (or more) without a drop of alcohol and I’ll be just fine.
But I think the way women are chastised and scorned at even the mere touch of wine on their lips is way out of line.
I’m not undermining the side effects of binge drinking or regular alcohol intake while pregnant (or even when you’re not pregnant for that matter), but I know of many women who have had a glass or two of wine a week while pregnant and their children turned out as normal as any kid in the block.
Anyway, since this seems to be a rather delicate issue among pregnant women and even among medical professionals, I’ve scoured the internet for some information regarding this matter.
You can decide for yourself where you stand!

The Monster Of The 3rd Trimester Of Pregnancy 2007-07-12 06:21:19
The monster of the 3rd trimester of pregnancy has finally laid its hand on me. What an illusion to think I would be spared from this fluid retention annoyances. I have after all followed every advice to the letter.
I drink 2-3 liters of water a day! (really!)
I’ve lessen my salt intake
I’ve exercised for at least 30 minutes 3x a week (or more)
And for the first 6 weeks of the 3rd trimester, I’ve been spared of any MAJOR discomfort — no swollen ankles, no painful legs, no puffy face when I got up.
Little did I know that the monster was planning to attack me where I least expected it…
MY RIGHT HAND!!!
Yes, my dear ladies, my precious right hand!
It’s red. It’s swollen. It’s tingly. It’s difficult to clench and worst of all, it can’t hold a mouse for more than one hour.
And in case you didn’t know, my life revolves around computers. I eat and breathe pcs. I cannot go on a day without being online.
And my precious right Read more:Monster
