The King and Prince on St Simons. The marble tile will make a great dance floor once some of the furniture is moved around to our liking. The other pictures are views from outside the reception room which will be ours to use as well. Then their are some views of the…view… from outside and inside. I wasn’t able to get any pictures of the actual room where the main reception will be held (food, tables, etc) because it was being used at the time. But you can see the entrance into it on the first picture to the right with the 1 door that’s opened. It goes into a much bigger room with a ocean front view. It was such a pretty day Saturday when we looked at this place. They offered us a free lunch and we decided to take them up on that while we looked over all the information, etc they gave to us. It was awesome eating lunch with the ocean right before us to look at. Well, that’s about it for now. I’ve got more pictures of where our rehearsal and wed

It Pains to Discover.
2007-02-22 16:27:52
The store where I did get them did not try any sales tactics on me and were very friendly and ordered anything I wanted to see in person at anytime. It really wasn’t an option to use a credit card for that in my eyes and brain. So back to my story, I called Discover the other day to cancel my card. I get transferred to about 3 different people and finally get to the right one. I tell her my name and I’m really polite because I want her to be the same to me. So I tell her I want to cancel my card and she acts like it’s the end of the world! How are you going to pay for things? How are you going to pay for gas? How are you going to pay for groceries? I basically gave her the short run-down of what I do. ‘Well, I take out so much money each month to cover my expenses and I pay all my bills online through my bank. That way, whenever I eat or pay for gas, groceries, a haircut, oil changes, I use cash so I don’t owe somebody money and I know each day how much I

Change of plans. And house plans.
2007-03-01 04:07:55
As many of you know Kara and I have begun planning the wedding pretty much the second after I got off of 1 knee. So far we’ve got the church, the pastor (or shall we call him Mr. Costner?), a place for the rehearsal dinner, and the honeymoon. We had a place for a reception, but it turned out that it didn’t hold enough people. So, we are looking elsewhere and have come up with some neat places. I guess it’s good to live in a place like we do because everywhere you visit is really unique or most likely has a view of the ocean or marsh. This weekend we’re going to eat with my Mom and Dad at the same place we are having the rehearsal dinner (Bonefish Grill) to hopefully finalize on a menu for everybody who attends. Speaking of plans , today I went and took Step 2 in getting a house. I met with 2 realtors today out at a neighborhood Kara and I are looking at. It turns out that all of the houses being built are already under contract so that means if we want to get a

Getting a house. Part 2.
2007-03-14 01:51:37
We’ve moved on to step #2 in the getting a house sequence. I left off last time with the mortgage consultant from Suntrust telling us to ‘Go find a house!’ and that we did! Except, right now it’s just a lot covered in dirt. Instead of getting a house we got house plans to build. It was actually cheaper to build here than it was to find a newer house or older house that had everything we were looking for without being house broke. We could have gotten a house in downtown Brunswick, but I know nothing about home repair to the extent of pretty much completely refinishing a house. I do look up to those who do though and have that skill. So we found a house we liked, had the house plans altered a few times, and it was done! So this afternoon we started the process of claiming our piece of land and now all the construction paperwork will begin. Once we get all that signed off it’ll be about 2 weeks before they really start with the building process. I’m pr

Caking Tasting/Registry’ing.
2007-03-13 14:21:37
Registry’ing isn’t a word. Saturday I woke up early and picked up Kara and we went cake tasting at a local place here in Brunswick. It was pretty fun and she gave us all the flavors that we were interested in. For Lent I’m one of those people who decided to give up sweets or desserts. Well, I crashed when we went cake tasting, and oh yeah, the ice cream too. But, I have to know what the wedding cake will be like right? I think so.  So after getting on a massive sugar high we drove down to Jax and began the registry’ing process. I learned more about fine china and stemwear than I ever knew existed. Oh yeah, and don’t forget about 18/10 flatwear too. It was fun, but I think in any man, there is a level of looking at china, and once that level is met, our brains sort of turn off. I got that way just as we were leaving the store. We also looked in a few more places before we headed back to Georgia. As far as wedding planning things have calmed down a bit. We&

More Cake Tasting/Tuxes
2007-03-26 04:22:14
This weekend was great. I took Friday off from work as a birthday present to myself. I really didn’t do too much except for wash my very dirty car and clean it out. I took Kara out to eat lunch and then headed back home and actually caught up on some web work. Saturday morning I went biking out on Blythe Island and didn’t fall! We found a huge hill that you have to climb your bike up to go down. Once your at the top, it looks a lot higher than it does from the ground. I admit, I chickened out at first. After seeing Wes going down at full speed then seeing him fly off his bike into a pile of leaves, I could see myself doing the same thing except for coming up with a broke arm or leg. Well, Mike went down, then I went down too. It was fun and we got lost a few times and just rode around the woods and kept ending up at a lake. After that Kara and I went to taste more wedding cake samples. I could only eat a few bites before hitting a sugar coma. It sure was good though. After

House Colors.

I’m working on getting a little database (dB) quirk worked out in my head, sometimes it helps to step away for a minute and do something else. So I’ll write in here. Yesterday after work I met with a lady about updating/redesigning her website. That went well and didn’t take long, so I hurried home to my apartment and grabbed my bike and Kara’s too. I put mine in the back, put Kara’s up top, and was off to meet Kara at her place (she keeps her bike at my place due to space…or lack of). I met her and we rode over to where some friends live to check out the colors of the houses to get some ideas. (The same builder is building our neighborhood that built the neighborhood where they live). So we rode around, and even went into a house that’s being built and the place was entirely blue..even the garage! Every single room was blue…electric blue! Even the outside stucco was bright blue! And I’m not talking about a nice, humble, spring bl

A trip to the Dr.
2007-03-30 16:41:49
This past Wednesday I did something dumb on my part. I looked up into a tree while somebody was shaking it trying to get a kickball out of the limbs. What happens next…”Something’s in my eye!” That night it was cleared up pretty good. The next day it was red all over again. Last night Kara and I went and bought some eye wash (purified water) and gave it a good washing out which only seemed to irritate it more. So this morning, I drove over to the Dr.’s office to see what’s up with my eye being all red. So I get there and sit down (their is a lady with her little baby daughter next to me and a guy in a green shirt like he works for Sea Island. He’s got an earpiece in his ear like the secret service have and keeps talking and saying 10-4. I realized this guy was with the lady and daughter doing whatever she needed and driving them around. I’m not sure who it was, but it must have been somebody important and wealthy). I get in the little ro

Back.

Well, I’ve always thought it to be uninteresting when a person has a blog and instead of posting about their lives they post a YouTube video. Sort of a cop-out for not wanting to write anything, but it keeps the audience entertained at least for a day or two. Well, I did that, but now I’m back to writing. It’s been a busy few weeks here - planning a wedding, building a house, trying to get outside to enjoy the hint of warm weather we have had. In between all of that I’ve been working of course. Work is good - the past few days have been a little stressful. Our dedicated server needed an upgrade to its email system due to a security hole. So, I upgraded and of course it crashes and burns right off bat. So, after 2 days of plugging away, researching forums, and writing support, I finally got the thing working on my own. Turns out it was the IIS Virtual SMTP getting in the way of the software on port 25. Each time I turned off the vSMTP it completely took away any

CraigsList.com
2007-05-10 15:07:52
So I’m going to be moving out of my apartment in a few months into a house. I’m pretty excited to not be sharing a wall with my neighbors anymore. I’m sure they are great people, but their comes a time when moving just can’t wait any longer. So, between Kara’s place and my place, we will have more than enough furniture. So, today I decided to place an item on CraigsList.com It’s sort of like eBay, but it’s totally free and it’s more like a want-ad than anything else and you can find a TON of random stuff just by searching. Plus, when you place an ad, you select which region you want. I selected ‘Savannah’ figuring I’m in Brunswick, my parents are in Richmond Hill, and Savannah is just a few miles north of them. Well, it wasn’t 30 minutes before I got an inquiry on my item. By 5pm three people have asked about my item. Now I want to place my entire living room onCraigsList and see if somebody will buy me out. By th

Back from North Carolina.
2007-05-14 16:51:50
I just got back from North Carolina last night around 8:30. It was a long drive, but it was fun to get out of town for a few days. Every year or so, my Mom’ s side of the family has a get together at Ocean Isles Beach in North Carolina . It’s not really a family reunion - plus I’ve never liked the term family reunion. I’ve never been, but this year decided to make the trip to show off my fiance’ and to catch up with family. We stayed in a 6 bedroom beach house with a pool. We didn’t arrive until almost midnight on Friday. Before I went to sleep I opened up a window in my room and could hear the ocean all night. When I woke up and went downstairs the next morning, I looked up and the ocean and beach were in the backyard - and the water was blue with huge waves -  not brown.  Being from the beach you would think Kara and I would be used to it and wouldn’t think it was a big deal, but we were the only people who took advantage of the beach being

Conference so far…
2007-06-04 19:42:00
This year Annual Conference has been quite different than most years. For one, I am not working in the lobby with the registration process. So instead of seeing everyone’s face and realizing how many people I don’t know, I’m in a room backstage working the computer system for the elections process. Yes, this year the conference votes and I’m in charge of running the software that reads 1000’s of scantron forms. It would seem like any other scantron reader - but for the voting process it can get pretty detailed. I actually like doing this and being backstage - I feel like I’m getting more done or doing something more than printing a name tag. Along with the voting process, I’ve been busy fixing laptops and getting staff hooked up to the wifi in the civic center. So I’m always walking behind the curtain back and forth during conference going into all these different dressing rooms. It’s neat to think about how many bands have used the

Laid Down the Law.
2007-06-03 22:54:46
I guess sometimes I can tolerate things that irritate me up to a certain degree. Then when it gets past boiling point, I just want to explode. Well, this morning at church two younger gents were sitting behind Kara and I, and were clicking away on some cellphone or gaming device - annoyance #1. Then they kept whispering enough hear them over what the pastor was teaching on - annoyance #2. Then after Kara gave several looks back at the guys and when they did not stop - annoyance #3 - I hit boiling point. After about a minute I turned around and said ‘Hey! SHHHHHHHH!’ It’s uncomfortable trying to listen and get something out of a message with people whispering about a video game behind you, so why not make them uncomfortable by pointing out the fact that they are bugging us and probably everyone around them. Maybe I was mean - but I didn’t hear anything else. If you’re going to go to church to play video games, then just stay at home. Why waste your time and

Back Home.
2007-06-08 09:01:45
I’m back home from Conference. It seemed to move by a lot faster this year - probably because I was doing a lot more than usual. It was great seeing friends and familiar faces during the week. As much as I enjoyed being in downtown Savannah and eating some good food, it’s great to be back.

Cellphones…
2007-06-06 16:08:38
**Update** Earlier today I was standing outside the hotel I’m staying in. My boss and the Bishop pull up and the Bishop says to me that his cellphone had a little glitch in it - but he accidentally dropped it and after that the glitch went away. Well, this afternoon I was sitting in a room at the civic center by myself. My phone was on the table in front of me, so I pushed it off the side to drop it thinking, well it worked for the Bishop. I picked it up and turned it on. Low and behold my cellphone is working again! Eat that Verizon! **** Cellphones . Good? Bad? Evil, maybe? Sometimes I think they are all 3. Since 2005 I’ve had 4 cellphones. The first broke in Nashville, TN at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown after I strummed a guitar that belonged to Johnny Cash. So I got another which was more like a toy in a cereal box and decided to switch carriers after about 6 months. So I got a Razr. I had that for 1 year exactly and it died after getting wet. Two weeks ago I got a replac

Enough is enough and #2.
2007-06-18 23:09:50
This week at church the theme was to ‘be still’ or to spend more time away from the noises of life. Well, right now I’m at the Jax airport picking up Kara. It’s 12:06am Tuesday morning (her flight was delayed just a few hours). I get to the airport and go into the restroom. I see a man’s feet in one of the stalls and he’s sitting down. So as I’m in the restroom I realize this man is talking on the phone! While he’s on the toilet…at midnight! Cellphones are great - but come on, enough is enough - if you can’t even…you know…without being distracted by the business of life - you may need to get some priorities checked.

60 Days and counting.
2007-06-28 15:25:01
This morning I went in and paid my monthly rent to the Fox Run properties office. After handing them a check, and seeing all smiles, I quickly changed the mood of the office by stating… ‘I’m moving out in 60 days.’ The smiles turned to frowns, and friendly eyebrows turned furrowed, the normal faces turned red. So I signed my name and walked out and drove to work. Basically I gave them my 60 day notice of me moving out. It’s been a great place to live - and I’ve lived in my fair share of apartments. Just in grad school alone I lived in a new place each year. It’s always interesting to see who your neighbors will be. In college all my neighbors remained the same, and I was usually the one moving out. At Fox Run, I’m the guy who has stayed the longest of all my neighbors. It’s amazing how many people come and go each week. I wonder where they go? Are they too building a house? Did they get transferred because of a job, or were they he

Yard Sale…On the tennis court.
2007-07-02 08:45:10
This past Saturday the apartment complex I live in had it’s annual yard sale. Pretty much anybody who lives there can sign up and sell stuff. Being that I’m moving and need to get rid of a lot of junk, I decided to sign myself up and give it a shot. Kara also decided to sign up to sell some things as well. We were kind of wondering how people would find out about it or if we would be the only people out at 8am selling anything. Saturday morning came early and Kara met me and we walked over to the tennis courts to see where our table would be. We eventually got everything set up and displayed. We had a lot, but not as much as others. One lady looked like Mrs. Claus selling all kinds of Christmas decorations and such. Another lady across from us had all sorts of little knick-knacks and she kept eyeballing us as we brought stuff out. These people looked professional! Well, the sale started at 8am and we made our first sale at 7:30am. Turns out the lady who was eyeballing us li

I made my way into the local at&t store this afternoon. Right inside the doorway were 2 iPhones waiting to be looked at. At first I thought, ‘Why do they put these fake screens on cellphones that we all know aren’t really the real screen. Nobody’s phone looks that clear.’ Then I touched it just to see how the screen felt and it moved! It wasn’t a fake still-image - it was a real webpage. My first initial impressions: very light, nice rounded edges, solid feel, very, very clear screen. Kara and I each picked one up and it was awesome. I surfed the internet and it was really the internet, you saw everything on every webpage just like you would on any web browser. So I made my way over to my work website and even checked out the new site we’re building. I took a picture of my staff picture and job description that displayed on the iPhone…it’s kinda blurry from me moving though. The screen itself was incredibly clear and the phone seemed
