Aha! 2007-06-07 10:45:00 Behold! Mishapen imperfection! Originally uploaded by chicken widget.Creating things really is therapy for me. This point was driven home once again as I created this little creature. I made so many mistakes. She was originally intended to be a gift, but that plan got scrapped, along with her legs. Even with all the mistakes, I felt I had to finish her. When the last stitch was in place, I held this little creature in my hand. I liked her. All the lumpy unevenness, the strange stitching. The complete imperfection. Visually, it made her great. More than that, it gave her a certain feel...a personality, kind of. Then I realized it. We're constantly fed a diet of perfectionist ideals- "Look like this, eat like this, live like this"- unrealistic ideals that no one can really live up to, so we're also constantly choking on perceived failure. This creation was imperfect, yet fantastic. Interesting, with personality. Real. Just because she was imperfect, did that make her any less dear to m

I used to think you would only see neat things if you lived in a city, but as I got older my eyes have become more and more open.Case in point: Ratty, ratty road. Ratty, ratty house. If the whine isn't heeded, it turns into an excited yip. Valuable kibble has lodged itself behind her bowl, just out of tongue's reach. This is an emergency! A travesty! Torture!I can particularly empathise with her today- I have not one, but FIVE unfinished paintings on my desk. And my next day to work on them is MONDAY- so far away! This is an emergency! A travesty! Torture! Speaking of torture, I just finished watching Les Mysteries Picasso. The premise is fascinating- Watch Picasso paint! Watch as paintings magically appear before your very eyes! What is he thinking? It is a MYSTERY. Picasso!Yeah. The painting bits are fascinating, but...it does drag on. It has the soundtrack of a 1950's B movie.
