Mystifying...
2007-10-11 16:40:00
Poking through the analytics software for this site, I discovered some of the keywords that are bringing people to this site:(Idea for this post stolen mercilessly from Minor Tweaks)The number one search that people find this site from:"chicken tattoo". Other tattoo related queries: "tattoo of chicken", "small and cute tattoo", "tattoo chicken"Not that odd, right? I posted a piece of mine called "Chicken Tattoo" not that long ago. Also, there are plenty of "small" phrased key words:"small bobs" (Um? My...hair? Or did you forget a vowel? Also: AHEM.)"small chicken project""small dogs from the dubois petshop""small pictures of a cat, rat, bat""small poem +shoe""smallest art work in the world" (probably something by this guy)Now here is where it gets a little weird:"I feel statements" (I feel...itchy. I feel...a little peckish.)"+cow+blank book" (have we ever had a cow on this site? We totally should. Did you notice how now we are freely using the editorial "we"?)"baking assignments""Cute

Handmade Parade - and another contest!
2007-10-05 12:36:00
The very next show that Absolutely Small will have a table at is: Handmade Parade !If you're in the Sacramento area on October 13th, you could be there too! Like the postcard says: live music, free demos, diy kits, 30+ vendors. It's going to be really fun. As far as the contest goes: Little Lovelies (one of the excellent vendors) is trying to stir up some promotion for this event. If you post the Handmade Parade flier picture and a wee post about the event on your blog, (and then come back to her site and leave a comment about doing said thing) you'll be entered into a contest to win some neat handmade goodies. Visit her site for all the details.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Handmade Parade Recap

Here it is in a nutshell: Handmade Parade was fun. And if you happen to be in the Sacramento area in May, when the next one is, you should go. And here's the more lengthy (fun) version:One side of my table... She was really sweet. I also met the founder of Mission Indie Mart. All sorts of movers and shakers were there. Jen from Rosebud Designs gave a demonstration on how to spin wool. Katie Jean gave a demo on making your own tags. Kelly of Sweet Addie brought some very awesome jewelry.Daily Photo 10.14.07 Originally uploaded by chicken

Chickenpants Hot Wheels
2007-10-24 15:19:00
Today's Chickenpants has a penchant for speed. Vrrooooommm! Who's that skidding round the track? Vrrooooom! It's Chickenpants Hot Wheels , and he's pushing his chickenfoot to the metal! Vroooooomm!Hot Wheels has earned his name, yes, for driving fast, but also for wearing a small toy tire as a belt buckle. He's made from fuzzy fleece, non allergenic polyfill, vintage stretchy plaid fabric, little beads for eyes, little bit of ribbon, and one Hot Wheels wheel for a belt buckle. He's roosting in the shop for now.Up next: Miss Dot Chickenpants.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Onward came the Chickenpants!
2007-10-23 16:34:00
Marching forward in semi-orderly lines...I created one Chickenpants (and a painting to match!) a little bit ago. But my brain never quite let me stop at that...and the vintage fabric, it beckons, you know.First up is Big Jim Chickenpants A rootin, tootin, barrel chested chicken. 6.5" high,4" wideBroad at the shoulders and narrow at the hips. And everybody knows you don't give no lipto Big Jim Chickenpants. He sports a paw print ribbon belt with a "Western" button belt buckle. He's made from fuzzy fleece, non allergenic polyfill, vintage stretchy plaid fabric, a couplea beads, little bit of ribbon, and a button. All the Chickenpants plushies are my original creations. Although they follow a basic pattern, each one is unique and has different embellishments. Each one has a bit of a different personality, too.If you'd like to see more, as always, Flickr delivers. I'll be adding them to the shop as well.Up next...Chickenpants Hot Wheels!absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Chickenpants the Argyle
2007-10-26 10:51:00
Chickenpants the Argyle hails from the place where everything is argyle. He's moved away from his hometown since then (all the argyle- it was just TOO MUCH!), but he likes to remember his roots. Hence the argyle belt. He's keeping it real, yo. For-shizzle?His belt buckle button, by the way reads: "CHOO CHOO". I don't know why. It's not like he has more than a passing interest in trains...Maybe he just thought it looked cool. Chickenpants the Argyle is made from vintage stretchy plaid material which I am very quickly running out of. His chickenpart (er...) is made from very soft & fuzzy fleece. He's stuffed with non-allergenic polyfill, and he's got beads for eyes. Add a ribbon and button belt ("CHOO CHOO") and you're all set to rock the chickenworld.Needless to say, he is in the shop, spreading his argyle goodness around.Up next: Sunny Chickenpantsabsolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Miss Dot Chickenpants
2007-10-25 10:37:00
Today's Chickenpants: Miss DotMiss Dot Chickenpants likes being the center of attention. Her choice of loud fabric may have something to do with this. She worked really hard to be able to fit into these pants. Now she looks fantastic and she's searching for some pie. Boy, has she ever earned it.She's made from fuzzy fleece, non allergenic polyfill, vintage stretchy geometric patterned fabric, little beads for eyes, little bit of ribbon, and one button for a belt buckle.See how swelte she is? She's roosting in the shop for now.Tommorow's Chickenpants will be: Argyle Chickenpants.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Big Tex Chickenpants
2007-11-02 13:51:00
Big Tex works on a ranch. He'd like for you to belive that he's a cowboy, but really, he's mostly just a consultant. He's working on a new pattern for chickenwire. He's really smart- and rugged, don't forget rugged! He's made from soft fleece, vintage plaid stretchy fabric, a few beads for eyes, a bit of felt here, a bit of ribbon there, and one button belt buckle that reads "Western".p.s: If he looks a little familiar, that's probably becuase he's Big Jim's cousin!p.p.s:Anyway, here he roosts.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Minicomic love
2007-11-01 22:44:00
I just received this wonderful mini-comic by Laura Park in the mail. I'm not sure how to write this post without it just coming across as a sales pitch. And special apologies for the crummy photographs. I am not feeling well, and this is as together as it is going to get for the time being. Seriously though, you should buy a copy. It's really fantastic. You can't really tell, but the hand lettered envelope is amazing. Best penmanship ever! Plus, she put in a handwritten thank you note. I'm quite a sucker for little details like this. The comic itself is packed solidly with all kinds of beautiful little vignettes. The drawings are adorable, and the short short stories are lovely. I'm not sure if my favorite part is the illustrated onigiri recipe or the tiny illustration of a little girl making eucalyptus bark masks. Hop on over to her flickr site and you should be able to still snag one! It's one of the most charming things I've seen in a long time.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

OMG!!!!1!!!1! Topanga and Dan are on Cute Overload!
2007-10-30 15:14:00
This is like winning the cute lottery for me.The Meg has chosen to post two of my photos!Of course, no pugs were actually this depressed during the shooting of this picture. And right afterward they were picked up and snorgled and entertianed and fed treats to within an inch of their lives. Right: so here's the link!absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Sunny Chickenpants
2007-10-30 11:24:00
Sunny Chickenpants is a proud little chicken who's not afraid to strut her stuff. She's proud of her bright yellow complexion, darn it! Sunny Chickenpants is certainly not afraid to be different. Strut, strut, strut. Chest out, leg cocked to one side - if you've got it, flaunt it, after all! She's made from soft fleece, vintage pink stretchy fabric, a few beads for eyes, a bit of felt here, a bit of ribbon there, and one button made from a shell. She's hanging out in the shop with the rest of her peeps.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Chickenpants in Space- Chickenpants 2001
2007-11-06 15:26:00
The discovery of some awesome robot-skin looking material has spawned the Chickenpants in Space ! In space, no one can hear your pants.Today's Chickenpants is Chickenpants 2001.Long ago (1977) in a galaxy far, far away, there was this chicken. He dreamed of getting off the family farm and touring the stars, living the laid back life of a space cowboy. Being a real farmhand was hard work! Maybe if he could ditch all these cows, life would be easier. He's made from robot skin (er, pleather), vintage plaid stretchy fabric, a few beads for eyes, a bit of felt here, a bit of ribbon there, and one silvery shell button belt buckle. It's the low slung belt that gives him that 70's air, don't you think?Until the day that he can escape this rock, he's roosting in the shop. Would you mind letting a little chicken tag along with you?absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Eli the Bulldog & The Absolutely Small List
2007-11-09 15:04:00
How great are dogs?Topanga demonstrates the awesomeness of dogsSo great! I've taken the slightest of breaks (a brakelet) from Chickenpants to create some more. Introducing Eli the Bulldog .He's a sturdy chap with a noggin full of knowledge. Well, ok, a noggin full of fluff. He may look a little fierce, but that's just his under bite talking. I think you'll find him a most agreeable companion. He's out in the yard until someone decides to adopt him.And on to the Absolutely Small list! It's a new thing I'm going to try out. Basically, it's a once monthly (or so...maybe longer)short little email note mentioning the upcoming shows where you can see the art in person, new plushies & the like, and oh yeah...coupons! Something short & sweet. If you'd like to sign up for it, just enter your email in the little box in the upper right hand corner of the page and hit "Yes, please!". Or shoot an email to chickenwidget{at}gmail.com. More Chickenpants are planned to be created next week. But

The New Brood

I've been keeping very busy these days, chickening up a storm. The last few creating days were entirely filled up with Chickenpants. There are so many of them! They're all over the house. It should be illegal to have this much chickenage all to oneself.Seriously- they're everywhere. How many chickens does it take to drink a cup of coffee? Now you know.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Oh, autumn! Er, winter! And a Shop Newlset!
2007-11-21 14:49:00
It is coooold. Really cold, by California standards, anyway. Frost on roofs cold! Little brothers unable to finish painting porches cold!I think all the general wintryness is rubbing off onto my work. See? This one wears a hoodie, for the warmth! Not the cuteness. I've used a bit more of the precious vintage plaid to make this new pup. I'm really pleased with how this one turned out. There was something about her that just demanded a necklace. Oh! Right! And in other news, any orders placed in my shop by 3 pm Pacific, Friday the 23rd will be shipped out the very same day. Hooray for fast shipping! I know that's the thing that is semi-awful for me when I order things online- THE WAIT. So I'm doing my part to reduce that.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Hard to Get...
2007-11-20 13:33:00
I had no idea that Nintendo Wiis were still so impossible to find! In the past few days we've gone to approximately one billion different stores and websites, looking, asking, being disappointed. It looks like everyone will be holding on to their stock until Friday, when all hell will break loose. Ughhh...I really don't want to go and deal with any of that stuff. I detest crowds, and standing in lines to buy luxury goods- it gives you that nasty 20 minutes to think, wait, what am I doing here? In other news, I've finally turned my attention back to this little softie. He was entered into the first Softie awards, and he's one of the first plushies I ever uploaded to my site. I had been clinging onto him, letting him waste away on a back shelf, waiting for a plush show in particular. I finally realized that it doesn't have to be that way and hanging out on dark shelves all by yourself is just so wrong! So now he's mingling with the other softies, no longer segregated. I'm thinking

Bringing small things to life
2007-11-27 13:37:00
Notable events of the past weekend: 1. Wake up at 5 am to stand in line to *possibly* get a Wii. 2. Get Wii. Hurt shoulder "bowling". 3. Receive 2nd hand amazing espresso machine from Mom. Find out that three shots and two Americanos can produce eye twitching in Husband.4. Go to cousin's wedding. Dance like a toddler with an ear infection. Also, laugh at dancing people.5. Let friend's mom sneak up behind you and give you a "shoulder massage". Experience amazing pain from tiny woman. Make new rule: no more letting people sneak up behind you.6. Oh, yeah, and create small things :7. How small? 2.5" tall!8. Realize that the guy is not singing "Comes connect the dots with me, poppet", but "Disconnect the dots with me, poppet". Feel a little let down.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Wips and Finks
2007-11-30 16:18:00
Daily Photo 11.28.07 Originally uploaded by absolutely smallI have so many half finished projects on my desk right now. Which is actually how I like it. I like being able to dive in and start working without having to think something up first. I always think up more to work on once I get started working, so you see how this works. The Wips above are a couple of Aranzai Aronzo softies for my nieces. They saw them on the cover of CRAFT last time they visited and seemed to like them very much. I highly doubt they'll remember them, but hopefully they'll like them. Underneath is a pile of Poppets, yet to be popped full of polyfill. Those are the Wips, now on to the Finks:Finks is the sort of creature who inhabits a woodland glade populated by talking squirrels and unicorns. You'd catch just a glimpse of her, peeking around the trunk of a cotton candy tree, and then she'd steal your backpack. But it's ok, because you would find your backpack later. Except all the candy bars would be eat

250th Post!
2007-12-06 11:47:00
I always forget about these things, or they manage to zip right past me. In any case, this here post is the 250th one! So you know what this means: Wee Bitty Contest! Leave a comment below, and I will randomly pick someone to win this nifty Chickenpants Baby. His name is "Rolf", and he's ready for adventure. It's not much, but I think they're awfully fun. Let me know if you'd like me to add a keychain loop thing or a pin to make him even more useful. Someone will be picked at random from the comments next Thursday. So, in other news: Dog is still lumpy. Mergh. Also, I finally got to paint yesterday! I've been whining about wanting to paint for weeks now. It was really good to get some painting done. I didn't actually finish anything, but it didn't matter. It was just good to smoosh paint around. Also, inspired by the very nifty photos taken by Objetsmart on Flickr, I've started a new group: Chickenpants Playground. The general portability of the Chickenpants makes them excellent

Lumps of Mystery
2007-12-04 11:26:00
Time for another freak-out visit to the vet! Topanga has developed some sort of hard lump in her right hip. It's utterly confounded the vet. "It's not like a regular tumor- those don't usually hurt." Ergh. I'm trying to not freak out too much, but that is hard. "IT IS PROBABLY NOTHING." That is what the rational part of my brain is saying, very loudly. Loudly doesn't mean authoritatively, though. Some thrilling life I lead, huh? Er, what I meant to say was: after my day job of super top secret espionage, writing, painting, and sewing, I went hunting for some elves. I caught a pixie instead, and what a headache that was! Then I ate an entire pie, and saved an entire burrow of bunnies from ravenous wolves. Well, at least the pie part is accurate. Sort of.absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

Oh, but first: in other news, you can see my incredibly messy studio and my attempts at organizing it on my flickr stream right now. Also, a custom "Absolutely Small" stamp that Terbear Collectables made for me is shown in one of her listings as an example. It's pretty nifty! Anything made by someone who makes a "We need more cowbell!" stamp is good by me.Ok, fine, fine, I'm getting back to work now.
