КРС
2007-06-06 09:55:47

My nasty random number generator

do you want a random number … my random generator just spit it out on me … i don’t know what to do. That nasty number is 45 5F E1 04 22 CA 29 C4 93 3F 95 05 2B 79 2A B2 Pleaseeee tell me what to do with it. How the hell should i get rid of it.

I am worth $2,015,250 on HumanForSale.com How much are you worth?
2007-06-02 07:17:42
Today as i was surfing i stumbled on HumanForSale site. There they calculate how much are you worth. It was fun (despite the fact that the test is for americanz). In the end after some googling, to get the questions right, the site said that i am worth $2,015,250. Quite good, isn’t it. Now i just have to lose some weight, get divorced and quit smoking and my price will go up with about 500,000. Also it is nice that there are some short explanations, which and with how much counts in the final sum. Now off you go to HumanForSale to see how much you are worth.

ISP troubles
2007-06-25 10:13:51
It seems that my problems with the providers are unending. Well maybe the providers themselves have problems but that is not interesting to me. Thi simple fact is that i have no connectivity and this is a thing i rarely can tolerate, i even hate it. First my hosting provider went down hard with a glitch in their core systems on friday. Well what you can do … Basically friday is a slow day for me so it wasn’t such a pain. And see a surprise, they were back in almost no time. Well they were a bit laggy for some time but this is not crucial. Later at saturday, the power blinked 3 times, and quite a lot of my isp’s equipment got dead. Here you go over 5 hours of downtime. Today … again fun, cut cable, 3 more hours. At least i found out for this much. I am touting on an isp change, but … noone here offers such speeds. Let’s sleep over it and will think on it on a fresh head.

The Curious Life of the Silicon
2007-06-28 08:46:07
The silicon is a strange thing. No i am not talking about the silicon being pumped in someones tities, i am talking about the silicon in our machines. It’s correct name is silica, but everyone is refering to it with silicon. It is a strange animal, it has rules to abide to. It grows works. But not allways. Man how happy was i when i got my hands on my firs celleron. It worked at 400Mhz and it was a pure beast. Man how much the landscape changed since then … The CPUs had grownup, became faster, easier on the power usage, can be updated, and caught bugs. I never thought about cpu’s in this way … bugs, that should stay in the software land not hardware. And now what provoked all this. Intel Core 2 A short writeup from Teo De Raat from *BSD teams. Lots of darkness creeps in this thread. I start to wonder with so many shits in the silicon, what CPU to purchase for my next machine. Intel or AMD. Maybe not … Maybe MIPS or RISK, maybe even CELL based. Let alone

Windows Based Coffee maker
2007-07-02 11:50:32
Today as i am working my fisrt day at the new work, suddenly i feel urged to drink coffee. Well but in the office there is only a vending machine and not a real coffee maker . And we started to think funny things … we had the following ideas for windows based coffee maker. (For MS hounds: i am the first to write such thing, so don’t dare try to steal it. The site has a strict license). Now by the numbers: You will be able to exactly dose your coffee - well by passing trough about 40 menus, but you can do it, right. You will be able to exactly dose your sugar - and only with 3 clicks … with your credit card, isn’t it awesome. You will be able to perfectly regulate the temperature of your coffee - if the feature starts to work at all. The coffee maker will automatically learn about new types of coffee - but will forget the old ones or will claim that you’ve never drank such stuff. Every time you switch the coffee you will have to unplug it and plug it back

Apple iPhone released and Disected
2007-07-01 06:35:55
Only few hours after Apple ’s iPhone has been launched for sale, the good guys from AnandTech already have it disected so we won’t be tempted to. All in all the phone looks sturdy, a bit massive, and it is almost impossible to get disassembled. It looks like there are no plans in repairing it, which is minus according to me. Well, tell me one thing in these years that can last 2 years straight. More info: Review of the phone Review from AnandTech Google coverage

Blackout
2007-07-04 16:04:58
Do you know what blackout is? By common knowledge it is the process of darkening a city against bombardment, but not only this. It could mean a loss of memmory for a certain perioud of time. And today i just vanished for about half an hour. I don’t know what happened to me but i am missing half an hour. I havent fallen asleep. I haven’t fainted, just led a normal converstation from which i have no recollection. Now what the hell is this. It is plain weird. I had blackouts before but the were after the consumption of enormous quantities of hard liquer, at such stage more or less you start to miss some moments. Anything interesting … not much i would say, only the little girl that was with us at IBB. She was so fun. Happy, smily, wild, even funny at times. She were such eye opener. The kids are good, but they sould be at least 3 in age. untill then they are so demanding. And the tech news for the day: stay tuned for an article titled “Secure and reliable data rep

Ways to kill Your Server

And now for the цхаленге … what ways of total destruction for your server you can think of? Remark: Thermonuclear blast does not count!

Say NO to OOXML
2007-07-13 02:28:38
ISO is an international body working on standartisation of certain practices. I(n this specific posting we will be talking about the document specification OOXML (Google Search) and specifically its inaplicability in todays world. Sta proposition for the standard from MS is 6000 pages big and describes so well what their office package can and cannot do it is almost scary. The whole proposition is so stuffed with atrocities which ensure “compatibility” with the older MS Office formats and whatever not that it scares the shit out of me. How does it sound to you that a standard proposes behaviour like autoSpaceLikeWord95 or useWord97LineBreakRules. Especially for me this is scary, very scary and frightening. It is not possible a proposed standard to impose such … profanities over the developers. And just by the way there is already an approved standard for document format and it is called ODF. And as empty words are not enough it is already under ISO26300. My questions

A dead simple webserver in bash
2007-07-18 06:57:31
Here i will show you a very simple idea for a poorman’s webserver. I warn you it lacks functionality and is prety useless. Why For a number of reasons. You can want a very simple statistics, lets say average load. You may want to park a very simple page. You may wish no to start a full blown webserver or any other reasons. Prerequisites We assume the following: This web server will serve static content Will serve only one simple page regardless of clients desire It will listen on port 8080 Theory of operation We will need something to take the incoming request - we will be using netcat which is known popularly as “TCP/IP swiss army knife” along with a simple wrapper script. We have to distinguish that a request has arrived - in the current situation we don’t really care. The moment we see a traffic at our listening port means that someone is making a request, as soon as the traffic stops the request has arrived and we will send our response. We have to constr

Happy SysAdmin’s Day
2007-07-27 02:21:38
Every year in the last friday of july all the System Administrators around the world celebrate their holiday. The day of the System Administrator. This is a day in which the normal users should show their love for the system administrators. Just remember how many times you have cursed your computer and how everything got fixed a little after your sysadmin came in. Show your love to him. And remember the system administrators don’t drink flowers, candy, water or other similar poisonous things. Happy SysAdmin’s Day everyone And dear users always remember that in every admin sleeps a hidden BoFH.

Globalization
2007-08-08 05:45:35
Q: What is the truest definition of Globalization? A: Princess Diana’s death. Q: How come? A: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, in a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling) followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles, treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines. This is sent to you by an African, using Bill Gate’s technology, and you’re probably reading this on your computer, that uses Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian lorry-drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, and trucked to you by Mexican illegals….. That, my friends, is Globalization

Истините от живота!
2007-08-10 07:15:09
I’m nobody, nobody’s perfect, and therefore I’m perfect. If I save time, when do I get it back? Take my advice. I don’t use it anyway. War doesn’t determine who’s right. War determines who’s left. Best way to prevent hangover is to stay drunk. A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station… What more can I say… If it’s true that we are here to help others, then, what exactly are the others here for? The best of proverbs: Should women have children after 35? No, 35 children are enough! Living on Earth may be expensive…but it includes an annual free trip around the sun… Your future depends on your dreams. So go to sleep! ALCOHOL KILLS SLOWLY! So what? Who’s in a hurry? Love is photogenic; it needs darkness to develop.
