Lucy, oh Lucy...
2006-12-07 14:55:35
It was two days ago now that Lucy entered our lives. Sarah, after much deliberation, brought her home from the Farmer's Market. We've never had anything like Lucy in our house before, but we had thought about it, and talked about it, and felt up for the challenge. Lucy, you should know, was once a chicken - a lovely chicken from what we could tell. And, while she was dead before we got her home, she was intact and whole. We did our best to honor Lucy's memory by grilling her with lemon and garlic tucked inside her and under her skin. And, when she was fully browned and juicy, we relished her for dinner. Not being ones to waste, we pulled off the rest of her meat and saved her bones thinking perhaps we would brave the world of broth-making. It wasn't as easy as you might have thought, for two novice chefs. First of all, we have no stockpot. Oddly enough, no one bought one for us for our wedding, so we don't own one (we're cheap in the kitchen that way, some days). So, Sarah we

Parking Christian Theology
2006-12-10 17:23:44
This post was written by guest blogger (formerly one who blogged at NakedChurch), Andrew Zirschky. If you think your church is the only place that good theology has been parked then you haven't checked out the World Wide Web. There you'll discover that Christian theology has been sidelined by dozens of "parked" domains owned by corporations bent on making a buck. These folks scoop up unregistered domains and then offer them for sale at outrageous prices in hopes of luring in desperate buyers. Meanwhile, venerable Christian theology and doctrines are out of reach: www.harmartiology.com yields results for smoked and honey baked hamswww.eucharist.comwww.eucharist.orgwww.soteriology.comwww.atonement.com and .netwww.creation.com -- just another media companywww.ecclesiology.comwww.practicaltheology.comwww.systematictheology.com yields opportunities to rent apartmentswww.grace.com yields a chemical materials companywww.grace.net gives me a chance to buy airline ticketsthe people at www.e

Done.
2006-12-14 06:37:44
Not to rub it in the face of my fellow Princeton colleagues, but...I am done with school. Final projects and papers turned in - done. And since I'm not taking a Jan-term course, I'm free until February 5th. And it will be glorious. I plan on doing a fair amount of cleave design work, working on some blog stuff, reading whatever the hell I want to read, working at SBL and enjoying my break. It's good to be done. I was not a fan of this semester's classes (except for Men in Ministry) but I'm looking forward to next semester much more. Both Sarah and I are ready for this break...it's much needed. And we are spending it doing the "newlywed Christmas tour" once again. We're spending the next two days driving to Rochester, NY to then get on a plane and fly to Seattle (get this: with a layover IN ATLANTA...). We'll be with my family in Chehalis for a week and then fly back to Rochester, where we'll be with Sarah's family for Christmas Eve and Christmas and for about a week. Then w

I've been feeling like this blog has been in a bit of a rut recently; I haven't been too sure what to blog about, and frankly, haven't been feeling very inspired by much. I think it's probably part of the end-of-the-semester-brain-melt. At any rate, I'd like to change that around as we enter come upon a new year. So, if you're a regular reader of this blog or just found your way here today by accident, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the questions below: What would help you get to know me better? What topic would you like to have me write about on this blog? What is one question you'd like to ask me? I don't know if I'll get much of a response to this or not, but I thought it might be a way to help spur me on to thinking more about what I want to focus on this year. Thanks for your feedback.

The Family is Complete...
2006-12-19 10:08:18
Ever since I got my PowerBook, I've been a bit of a Mac-evangelist. And my parents' old Dell desktop running Windows '98 was just not cutting it anymore. So last night, after a glorious performance of Handel's Messiah, we went to the Apple Store in Oregon (no sales tax!) and my parents bought a MacBook. We worked a bit on it tonight - it's their first Apple, first laptop....it took some convincing to get them to switch over to Mac, but I think that as soon as they get used to it, they'll love it. So, I'll be Coach Mac for the next few days, explaining all the wonderful joys of macLife to them.

Merry Christmas
2006-12-25 20:21:21
Merry Christmas , Happy Hanukkah, Happy Solstice, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Holidays! Sarah and I spent a week with my folks back in Washington and now we're celebrating Christmas with the Walker clan in Rochester. Things will most likely be quiet here on the blog until the first of the year, while I think about what I want to write about and figure out where this blog is going to be hosted (I'm still debating between DreamHost and Media Temple's Grid-Server Hosting. At any rate, please change all links and bookmarks from cleave.blogs.com to pomomusings.com, as that will be where the blog will be located. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

(mt) Media Temple (gs)

So I was sick of going back and forth between Dreamhost and (mt) Media Temple so I just made a choice and went with (mt) Media Temple's Grid-Server. (mt) boasts instant activation, so I was a little confused when I didn't an email right back. However, about an hour later, I got a phone call from the sales department and the first thing they asked was, "So...where are you located right now?" I said "I'm at my in-laws for Christmas in Rochester..." Apparently they were a little concerned that an order was coming through that originated in Rochester, NY, used a Decatur, GA address and had a New Jersey cell phone. So already they were concerned for me, that I had been scammed or something. But after we got that cleared up, and I received an email with all my email while still on the phone with them, I was up and running. I am a little more used to the cPanel interface, so it took awhile getting used to (mt)'s Account Center, but it is a beautiful interface. I called Tech Support with

24 ways

24 ways is an Advent project put together by some of the top designers around. Both in '05 and '06, they put together a new CSS/design tip for each day of Advent. It's filled with some great stuff, so be sure to check it out. Some of the ones I really liked were: Gravity-Defying Page Corners Photographic Palettes Knockout Type - Thin is Always In Rounded Corner Boxes the CSS3 Way

Books, books, books.
2007-01-01 00:14:21
While I can't necessarily compete with Marko's Christmas gifts, I did pretty well. Got some new pants ($10/pair at Gap Outlet), some extremely comfortable slippers (with memory foam!) and some cash. Sarah and I received some items still needed off our registry and we treated ourselves to new luggage (yup, using Christmas money for luggage...I think this means I'm married!). But Sarah and I both asked for books...made Amazon.com wishlists, and...well as you can see...we did fairly well in the book department. The books above are ones that both Sarah and I received...looks like we have quite a lot of reading in store for us...

Photoshop Fun with "Cars"

A friend linked me to Sporadic Nonsense for a Wordpress plugin, but then I saw this post. So I thought I'd give it a whirl as well, and I came up with the above photo. If you want the tutorial on how to do this, go here.

Please Update Links to pomomusings.com
2007-01-02 18:19:53
I am in the process of transferring this Typepad-hosted blog, pomomusings, to its new place at (mt) Media Temple (note that Media Temple is having some server problems right now, so the blog might not come up, but pomomusings.com IS the address to use) and to its new blogging software, WordPress. cleave.blogs.com will be up through the end of January, but after that, it will be taken down. PLEASE update your links (as some of you already have) to pomomusings.com. And, not that I'm being picky, but many of you have links to Adam Cleveland or Adam Walker Cleveland - notice the actual spelling of my last name: Walker Cleaveland. Thanks. My second plea for changing the links is purely for "blogging ego" and clout. Somehow, over the past 3 years, pomomusings has gotten enough links to be ranked 12,411 at Technorati. I know that switching my blog over to WordPress means starting all over, but it would be great if everyone who reads this would be so kind to make the change on their blog

Sponsored Post: Texas Hold 'em and Standards Compliant CSS/XHTML
2007-01-03 16:56:00
While I was home for Christmas, my parents surprised me by showing me a room that sat above our garage that they had recently remodeled. It looked great, but much different from when I was a kid in junior high. While I was up checking out the new look, I was reminded of many warm summer afternoons spent with a group of about 10 junior high guys playing poker in that room. Though the stakes were pretty low (I'll see your 20 M&Ms and I'll raise you 15 Red Skittles), we still had a great time. A month or two before that, I was on a men's retreat and one of the guys brought along a very nice poker table and we sat down for a few nights of Texas Hold "em, a game I had just started playing again recently. There are a few bars here in Atlanta who run games of Texas Hold "em throughout the week, so I've had a chance to play on some nice tables with real chips and everything. Cardroom Supply looks like a great place to get set up with the premium set-up, whether you want to

Sponsored Post: Text Link Ads
2007-01-08 05:21:31
[This is a sponsored post] A few months ago, I signed up with Text Link Ads because I wanted to begin to make some money through my blog - I had no idea what I was doing, but found Text Link Ads an incredibly easy service to use. One of the best parts about Text Link Ads is their options of ways to use their service. If you have a website with an ability for server-side code, you can sign up to sell ads on your site. However, if you have a site like this one, a Typepad site, you can site up for their Affiliate program and when you get someone to sign up through you, and if they get accepted as a Publisher, you get $25. Just like that. Pretty easy. I also recently signed up with Text Link Ads through another blog on Wordpress and it was incredibly easy. Just a few quick steps and then they had the WordPress plug-in and code for me...just like that! I fully support and recommend Text Link Ads as a great way to begin to earn some revenue from your blog. The ads look much cleaner than G
