Meet Ezra!
2007-06-17 05:53:00
Hi, I'm Ezra! I have the honor of being the first pup featured on Helping Dogs In Need!I was rescued by a nice woman in Indianapolis, who squeezed my big self into a Mini Cooper so I wouldn't get hit at a busy intersection. She saved my life!I'm housebroken, crate trained, neutered, and up-to-date on all my shots. I get along with other dogs, not sure about cats. I am a big doofus who is gentle and generally well-mannered, despite being a big boy.Weighing in at 75 lbs, I'm about 1-2 years old, love to ride in the car, and could play with balls (even by myself) for hours! To find out more about me, please contact the nice people at ARPO and fill out a pre-qualification form. You'll be glad you did!

Meet Bingo!
2007-06-20 05:35:00
Bingo is a Terrier mix and is being cared for by RESCUE (Reducing Euthanasia at Shelters through Commitment and Underlying Education) in Phoenix, Arizona. There was a dog who had no home and Bingo was his name "O", B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O and home with you, he'll go! What a cutie! He looks like the typical Disney dog in a 50 pound package. Bingo is quickly making some fans out there amongst the RESCUE volunteers! He is very lovable and full of personality. Bingo has had a "ruff" go of things and appears to have been mistreated in the past. He is hand shy and somewhat timid and hesitant initially, but the shelter volunteers are sure that he will gain much more confidence the more he is exposed to positive experiences. At this time, we would not recommend young children in the household. Bingo needs a patient family who will understand his fears, but yet help him move beyond them towards a happy future. Once Bingo feels safe with you, he lets his silly side show and will bounce aro

Meet Belinda!
2007-06-18 05:52:00
Meet Belinda ! Belinda is a super-sweet young pup who captured the hearts of the folks at New Leash on Life in Chicago, a no-kill shelter, with her odd looks and even temperament. When NLOL intake reps were strolling the rows at Animal Care and Control, Belinda stuck close to the front of her cage in hopes that we would pick up on her quiet wiggling and it worked! Little Miss Clown Face has shown herself to be personality plus! The folks at NLOL really have no idea about Belinda's breed mix! Regardless of her murky breed identity, Belinda has a personality that's to die for. She loves to meet everyone and thinks the world revolves around her! Some obedience training is definitely going to be in this pup's future, as she's energetic and not always sure how to direct that energy, but like most dogs we're sure that Belinda will face training with the same excitement with which she greets everything else she encounters. Belinda would love to find a home where she can settle in and take

A poem: Do I go home today?
2007-06-22 17:59:00
Do I Go Home Today?by Sandi ThompsonMy family brought me homecradled in their arms.hey cuddled me and smiled at me,and said I was full of charm. They played with me and laughed with me,they showered me with toys.I sure do love my familyespecially the girls and boys. The children loved to feed me,they gave me special treats. They even let me sleep with them --all snuggled in the sheets.I used to go for walks, often several times a day. They even fought to hold my leash,I'm very proud to say. These are things I'll never forget --a cherished memory.I now live in a shelter --without my family. They used to laugh and praise mewhen I played with that old shoe. But I didn't know the differencebetween the old ones and the new.The kids and I would grab a ragfor hours we would tug.So I thought I did the right thingwhen I chewed the bathroom rug. They said that I was out of control, and would have to live outside. This I did not understandalthough I tried and tried. The walks stopped, one by one;they said

Meet Pete!
2007-06-21 05:46:00
While we were visiting the website of the Calvert Animal Welfare League in Prince Frederick, Maryland we met up with Pete.Pete has had a rough life and is looking for a stable home of his own with someone to care for him while he enjoys his retirement. He is a German Shepherd mix that spent approximately eight years living his life on a chain. But his personality is charming, as his caretakers have been told by his fan club. Everyone interested in adopting him owns other pets. Unfortunately, living so many years of his life on a chain, he's not fond of other animals.Pete is, however, easy going, enjoys lounging around, and walks really well on a leash. He will require a fully fenced yard and a commitment from his new family to follow a few simple rules. He is looking to move into a place he could call his own, "Pete's Place", and share all of his love with you!If you have room in your home with children over the age of 14, no other animals and no plans to get any other animals, maybe

I am the bridge!
2007-06-21 05:34:00
Lora from It’s a Dog’s Life and our good new friends at TipTail.com posted this great poem the other day. We wanted to share it with you too! I am the bridge Between what was and what can be.I am the pathway to a new lifeI am made of mush,Because my heart melted when I saw you, Matted and sore, limping, depressed, Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love. For one little time you are mine.I will feed you with my own handI will love you with my whole heart.I will make you whole.I am made of steel.Because when the time comes,When you are well, and sleekWhen your eyes shineAnd your tail wags with joyThen comes the hard part.I will let you go – not without a tear,But without a regret. For you are safe forever – A new dog needs me now. ~ Diane Morgan

Meet Leo!
2007-06-27 05:09:00
Leo is currently staying at Pet Network Animal Friends in Incline Village, Nevada. He is a friendly boy with lots of energy. He could use some training. He's good with people, but should not be with small children due to his size.Two-year-old Leo, one of their adoptable pets, is a German shepherd/lab mix - a good boy who needs a good home. 2007-06-30 19:12:00
Riley is currently being cared for by The Ark, Inc. in Huntsville, Alabama.Riley has been at The Ark two times now. He was adopted when he was a pup and brought back because his new owner was leaving the USA. The Ark adopted him to a new family and he got out of their fence. 2007-07-03 05:55:00
Elaine is about two years old, weighs about 95 pounds and is perhaps a Treeing Walker Coonhound. She is sweet, gentle and a little on the timid side at your first meeting, but adjusts great. She is in love with her foster mom and her foster moms dogs. Elaine walks well on a leash and is learning more manners everyday. She just longs for love and attention! She came from a situation where a man had collected way too many dogs and was no longer able to care for them, so was forced to give them up.Elaine is currently being cared for by a foster family through Pals Rescue & Adoption in Gardena, California. They are a nonprofit organization, working to place, in safe, permanent homes, as many abandoned and unwanted pets as possible. Since their inception, they have been successful in placing over 3,000 rescued cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies. A poem!
2007-07-02 05:10:00
~The Meaning of Rescue~Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed, all nicely tucked in my warm new bed. I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget, there is so much to carry - so much to regret.Hmmm...Yes, there it is, right on the top, let's unpack loneliness, heartache and loss. And there by my perch hides fear and shame. As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave - I still have to unpack my baggage called pain.I loved them, the others, the ones who left me, but I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me. Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack? Or will you just look at my things - and take me right back.Do you have the time to help me unpack? To help put away my baggage, to never repack? I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see, but I do come with baggage - Will you still want me?~ Author Unknown ~
