Spielberg Speaks 2007-07-09 09:27:00 It’s rare that DVD Empire comes out and recommends a television show (after all, we are in the home video business), but tonight Turner Classic Movies is airing a documentary we fully support setting the DVDs aside to watch. It’s Spielberg
On Spielberg, a first-person look by Steven Spielberg himself on his career and the films he has made. From his early days with the made-for-TV Duel and the blockbuster Jaws, to his more recent work like Munich (and perhaps even a few words about Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods), Spielberg covers it all...or as much as he can in this program’s seemingly all-too-short 90-minute run time.DVD fans are all too aware that Steven never does audio commentary tracks for his releases, so Spielberg On Spielberg is the rare treat – an opportunity to hear the world’s greatest director talk about his work.So butter up some popcorn, sit back and enjoy!

30 Years Later...He's Still The King 2007-08-16 13:00:00 It’s hard to believe it has been so long, but today marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Aron Presley. In Memphis today, thousands of fans are braving a 105-degree heatwave to pay homage to their favorite performer, who died on August 16th, 1977.Even larger in death than he was in life, the Elvis name has become a franchise in and of itself, with Forbes Magazine stating that Elvis is the current second-highest dead celebrity earner, right after Kurt Cobain. No doubt this latest anniversary (hang on, because we’ll be doing this again in 2010 – his 75th birthday) will generate even more profit, and perhaps a few new fans in the process.Alive, Elvis would have been 72-years-old. Dead, Elvis is forever young. He can rest in peace knowing that now, just as ever, he’s still The King. Read more:Years

Surprise Winners/Goofy Show Mar This Year's Emmys 2007-09-17 09:27:00 It started out nicely enough, but this year’s Emmys quickly turned into a train wreck...both in onstage antics and in some of the inexplicable choices voters made in some of the night’s biggest awards.Although viewers didn’t know it at the time, the highlight of the evening proved to be the opening number, performed by the animated characters of Stewie and Brian from FOX’s Family Guy. But things went quickly downhill after that. For the first time, the Emmys were presented “in the round,” meaning half of the stars in attendance had everybody on stage facing away from them throughout the entire evening. Winner James Spader even commented on the poorly designed set-up, saying “I’ve been to thousands and thousands of concerts in my life, and I can tell you, these are the worst seats I’ve ever had!”Speaking of Spader, just what were Emmy voters thinking when they gave the Best Actor in a Drama nod to him, instead of James Gandolfini...or Hugh Laurie...or even Denis Leary Read more:Surprise

Writers Strike Looming 2007-11-02 09:21:00 If you thought re-runs were bad in the summer, you ain't seen nothing yet.The Writers
Guild of America met last night and agreed to recommend to their union leaders that they go on strike. The strike could begin as early as Monday, although there is room for some last-minute negotiating at the bargain table this weekend. What would a strike mean for you, the television viewer? Well, a lot more reality-based shows like Dancing With The Stars and American Idol. It could also mean some of your favorite shows will suddenly vanish and go into re-run mode, since few have completed filming their full compliment of shows for the television season. Other shows, like FOX's upcoming Season 7 of 24 and ABC's Season 4 of Lost may not hit airwaves at all for a while, since only about 1/3rd of those seasons' episodes have been shot to this point.Obviously, the longer a strike goes on, the more impact it has. Movie-goers won't immediately notice the impact of the strike, but an ongoing strike will Read more:Looming

Amazingly, he walked away from the accident without injury.Humor still firmly attached, Seinfeld was quoted as saying "Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do."
