Morocco and Hash; Implications of the Global Trade 2007-06-13 18:50:00 The basic laws of the supply and demand relationship are easily set into principle with the example of the international drug trade. If consumption rises, so does supply if possible, which thereby creates more demand and even more profit. Making, supplying and delivering drugs from any country to another is lucrative and illegal but its economic factors and political bearings all play a major role in the drug trade. Morocco
is no different in that regard. The consumption of hashish in European countries is directly correlated to the production of it in Moroccan territory. Because of this, two countries emerge as cohorts in the hashish trade in Europe. Since the colonial era both countries have been responsible for the growth and cultivation of cannabis and to this day their roles in moving the product out of Morocco is important to all involved. Simple statistics reveal that “lifetime prevalence rates for cannabis use among adults aged between 15 and 64 increased from 21.9% in 1999 Read more:Implications

Upcoming Posts 2007-06-13 18:46:00 I've been doing some independent research on the international drug market and its implications for the US market. What will follow will be summarizations of articles that I have read, compacting the information provided and offering it in a regurgitated format steeped in my opinion. Comments on the articles are more than welcome. Hopefully talking about drugs will incite some action! Read more:Upcoming

Amy Winehouse is Back to Black 2007-06-19 19:08:00 Back to Black
marks a lot of changes for Amy Winehouse
. When she initially debuted in Europe her sound was pure jazz and marketed about the same way. Amy Winehouse
established her career on that genre and drew a lot of attention when she signed on with Republic and dropped a large amount of weight rather quickly. Her fans were worried that her parlaying her former work into a major record deal would whitewash her style and character. Especially when they found out she was singing R&B and dropping her former jazz background in the dust. Ultimately she played her cards correctly and brought back her producer from Frank, the album that truly established her in Europe. Then she brought in Mark Ronson to make her a star. Ronson is known for having created the sounds of Christina Aguilera and Robbie Williams and therefore was the best person to bring in to update Amy’s music and give it a commercial sheen to attract a US fan base. Her producers guided her well and what emerged was
Guilty Pleasures 2007-06-19 14:22:00 Paris Hilton's mom called in to some show and complained that the guards who control the Queen B's (for bitch) cell block won't allow her to put pictures of her family up. Imagine that, a prison being a place where you are stripped of human rights for doing something wrong that could have endangered your life and the lives of countless others. WOW. Oh, and the card she made for her father had a depiction of the two of them talking while divided by one of those prison visitor plexi-glass enclosures. The best part is that in the picture the two are touching hands through the glass. What B-List movie did she pull that from? Paris has also said she plans to change from her time in the slammer. She supposedly intends cut "toxic" people from her life. After thinking about it for a minute, I feel it is best to point out to Ms. Hilton that she would be alone if she did that. Hell, she wouldn't even have her rat-dog, because that thing has to be toxic too.The Stepford Wife is pregnant again Read more:Guilty

Web 2.0: A Revolution for the Little Guys 2007-06-19 12:50:00 Recently a few articles and a major post that I have written have come under scrutiny for their comments regarding certain blogs or the manipulation of certain sites. There seems to be a change happening on the internet and I’ve found myself square in the middle of it. In my opinion the internet is somewhat of a last frontier for human morals and societal roles. Apparently the Internet is being broken. No longer is it a free soapbox for people to shout their opinions and do what they want. The government has stepped in and started making restrictions on what sites can post and even in China they are blocking sites that have opinions that oppose their government. Global government control implications aside, who is really to blame for this change in the game? The web is divided into two opposing factions now. There are the established bloggers and website creators who have been around for a while, developed a large number of readers and have advertising backing to keep their sit
Bloggers in Glass Houses and Tyra Banks on Urine 2007-06-19 12:12:00 I just recently came under attack from a few bloggers due to my viral matrix on this site. Apparently my attempt at expanding the list has some fans and some haters! There have been accusations leveled that I have abused the viral tag idea. Apparently someone needs to better explain to me how a link matrix being enlarged to encompass more blogs and therefore ping more people and raise their page loads is a bad thing. Most of the people using the newly minted matrix are new bloggers who need traffic in order to continue with their posting.I never had any intention of offending people or "abusing" any blogger tool. I didn't realize that was even possible. Ironically most of the people who have expressed outrage are already established bloggers with high ratings and page loads. Somewhat hypocritically, the bloggers that have pointed their fingers at me have their blogs buried beneath levels of advertising and paid reviews. People in glass houses...My viral tag matrix will continue to gro Read more:Glass
Something Before Bed VII 2007-06-18 23:31:00 She makes a valid point but being an American makes me want to immediately tell her to stop being so critical about Muslim tactics. It isn't like they have the ability to fight back via the media or politics. I've done many studies on Islamic militants and of course have run across Samuel Huntington many times. That man has the ability to make a debate in any classroom around the world. WATCH THIS CLIP!And I should probably post something funny after such a dramatic day. Here is my attempt at showing that this blog is all in good humor so I don't end up vanishing into a black bag somewhere. Motiveless Crime Headlines 2007-06-18 22:27:00 Today was a long day for news. I didn't manage to get the amount of articles that I wanted to get done today because of the Gaza Strip gunfire and the bomb scare in Washington, D.C. Tomorrow will hopefully be less eventful on the drama scale. The headlines for today cover things that haven't already been written about on Motiveless Crime.US-led air raid kills seven Afghan childrenI really have no idea how to explain or understand a situation like this. On one side I understand why the US had an air raid in Afghanistan following the large number of attack sin the past four days. On the other hand I can't grasp why they decided to target a madras (religious school). In my opinion and in my mind war never has children as causalities and schools are not ever involved in such deadly attacks. The reports on children being forced to stay in the school seem fabricated. It seems that US Intelligence may have thought the school was empty and decided to blame a faceless entity for the mistake.
Motiveless Crime, Translated 2007-06-18 21:11:00 I just wanted to give an update to my readers, both close and abroad. Breaking News, Evacuation Near White House 2007-06-18 14:51:00 Reports are just coming in that the building that is currently hosting the WhiteHouse
press corps has been evacuated because a police dog has given signs that a car nearby could possibly contain a bomb. The evacuated building is the White House
Conference Center and has been housing reporters during renovations in the West Wing.Around the corner is Blair House (directly across from the White House), which typically houses foreign dignitaries and political officials who come to D.C. to meet with the President. The bomb scare has already hit the press as having some kind of connection to Israeli Prime Minster Ehud Olmert who is staying at Blair House currently. In the meantime the White House is on high alert and the press corps is on the street. Police are setting up to inspect the car.Update!Darren Blackford, a Secret Services spokesman, stated that a bomb-sniffing dog signaled trouble for a car parked on Jackson Place. Guilty Pleasures 2007-06-18 13:37:00 This is the second day that I am posting the new segment Guilty
Pleasures. Typically I try not to exploit the celebrity phenomenon but after the last post I received a barrage of emails asking me to continue the segment. Some people liked the news, others liked my comments. Either way, I like to think that I'm offering a view of these people that most people don't have. Enjoy!Apparently Julia Roberts was pregnant. And apparently we are supposed to care that she finally popped the kid out. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy who has been named Henry Daniel. Henry was born at Cedars Sinai (insert corporate plug here) and weighed 8.5 lbs. Roberts has two other children with her husband Danny Moder, a set of twins named Hazel and Phinnaeus. Hazel is a beatiful name, Phinnaeus has to be lifted from A Separate Peace (if not, the parents should be shot) and now Henry? Where is the invention in that? I was thinking Prometheus.Ok, I know I'm supposed to feel sorry for the jailed Queen B (fo Read more:Guilty Pleasures
Breaking News, Gaza Strip Gunfire 2007-06-18 12:48:00 The previous post touched on the Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip
. Within the past hour news has broken that there has been a shooting at the Israel-Gaza gateway between Israeli soldiers and Hamas militants. So far only one person has died and it has not been confirmed which side the fallen was on.The gateway continues to grow with people from Gaza who are trying to flee to Israel due to the Hamas occupation and violence that is taking over their area. Israel has only let a few through. What concerns me at this point is that the number of people at the gateway continues to grow. More people means more chance for chaos and now that this news has broken it is clear that Hamas lied when they stated that they didn't have any of their men stationed at the crossing. If more gunfire breaks out, civilians may start to fall. Read more:Breaking
Monday, Monday, Monday 2007-06-18 12:01:00 Yesterday's post entitled Guilty Pleasures has garnered a lot of attention and has lead to a decent number of emails asking for me to continue the segment daily. After discussing it with a few people, I have decided to do just that. This by no means is a sign that Motiveless Crime is selling out or becoming a gossip rag. If you notice, my comments continue to contain my opinion and the more academic and intellectual posts will continue to outnumber the rumor mill pieces.Like any Monday
, today is starting off with a negative black bang. Apparently the Gaza Strip has been closed down due to the large amounts of violence caused by the control of the area by Hamas. In the past three days Afghanistan has reemerged as a war zone and I can't help but think the people behind it really wanted to remind Americans that we have ruined their way of life too. Iraq was a way to distract from Afghanistan and more importantly, the fact that we never caught Osama bin Laden. Over 100 people have died

Update on Afghanistan Insurgency 2007-06-17 23:05:00 This is just an update on the last article in today's Motiveless Crime News Headlines segment. The BBC is reporting that the Taliban basically lifted the idea of planting the bomb on a bus straight from the tactics of insurgents in Baghdad...great, this is what they mean by "Al Qaeda" (its a learning block on how to get your point across violently).According to witnesses the bomb exploded in front of a police headquarters and the area was littered with blood and body parts. It brings to mind more than a few of the horrific terrorist scenes that Bret Easton Ellis has been known for. It appears that the last three days are marking a sharp rise in Afghanistan
insurgent attacks. The comparison to Iraq added into the mix means that the US could have an even messier mess in the Middle East... Read more:Update

I-Doser, the Smart Placebo 2007-06-17 21:35:00 If you are like me you sometimes find yourself spinning out of control due to a large number of errands, a deadline at work or just he stress of living in the 21st century. Well the latest and supposedly greatest internet program to hit the market is called I-Doser. The program is basically an audio player that plays what the company calls “doses” which are actually highly crafted audio files (.drg) that sound like static with random beeps and clicks. These beeps and clicks are pattern inducing and are supposed to alter the listener’s binaural brainwaves.Alteration of the banal brainwaves is still rather questionable in practice but because the chances of any physical harm are nonexistent, products like I-Doser go straight to market without testing. Of course the company’s website alludes to a large number of scientists and a lab somewhere, yet finding background on the company itself is rather difficult. It seems as if this product popped up out of nowhere. The basic premise is Read more:Smart
Motiveless Crime News Headlines 2007-06-17 19:57:00 Oil industry scales back refinery plansWell its good news if you want less oil dependence for the US. Its bad news if you want the gas prices to go down.Blair knew US had no post-war plan for IraqThis documentary apparently tries to paint George W. Bush as the sole lead in deciding whether Britain should be involved in overthrowing Saddam Hussein. I think the more important thing to notice is that Blair said he was with the US even though he had doubts, as did other cabinet members, about the exit strategy that seemed to be missing from the plan. Perhaps Bush is the ringleader but Blair followed him blindly into the battlefield and ruined his career in the process. That doesn't clear him from his poor decision making, being a good leader is about leading the masses, not being one of the sheep.Climate change behind Darfur killing: UN's BanThis article is just a reminder of how global warming can not only destroy our habitat but our way of living, which inevitably leads to things such
Guilty Pleasures 2007-06-17 16:43:00 Typically I avoid celebrity gossip on my page...well, for the most part. But I have to say that Posh Spice (AKA Victoria Bend-it-like Beckham) is really starting to scare me. First she and her tool of a husband decide to move from the UK to LA. Then they die their hair to match (but only for a photo shoot!!!). Then she gets a razor haircut and suddenly she is on every web page and making splashes for simply having lunch with someone. How did the foreign scary witch-lady turn into celebrity royalty? Then again I'm starting to think that she is simply a temporary replacement while the Queen B (for Bitch) is in jail. Posh didn't become very important until Paris wasn't around to distract everyone from breathing. Advertising At World's End 2007-06-17 16:13:00 I've titled this post in such a way that greatly relies on advertising genius and more importantly it is an effort at manipulating people away from a certain mega-hit movie which lacks any intellectual stimulant. If you can't figure out the correlation, follow this.Advertising
, whether anyone wants to admit or not, is a major part of our lives. The video that is posted above has been shown to me by a multitude of academics and friends alike because of its short but very important message. Please enjoy the video but keep in mind that it isn't meant to be all that entertaining. Its educational!Branding has become the staple of the Advertising Industry and I came across The History of Branding, which should hopefully better illuminate how the process of branding works. The logos on the page all contain a history of how a product became a global image. Take your time, peruse the various major conglomerate images. I think you'll find yourself more than shocked at what it takes to corner Read more:World

Announcing a New Segment! 2007-06-16 23:40:00 Watching modern public media is a gamble. If you watch CNN, be prepared for the Communist Manifesto without the Marxist charm. If you are watching MSNBC prepare to be called racist and if you watch FOX News…well, you’re an idiot. Choosing an outlet that isn’t bias or controlled by major political contributions or the men who’ve made them is harder than most people realize. One of the many problems with modern media is the filter that determines what makes it to the air and what doesn’t. As Dan Rather has stated, hard news takes a backseat now in the mainstream and soft/entertainment news takes the front seat. This is exactly why I stopped watching televised news for anything but entertainment purposes (which I still avoid 99% of the time).Local news is somewhat less whitewashed but gives you a very limited scope of the world. Besides, it gets old watching the same old newscaster with the same bob-haircut touting the same boring store opening or reporting on the murder that alm Read more:Segment

Guilty Pleasures 2007-06-23 17:47:00 Paris Hilton's deal with NBC was apparently never real. NBC had approached the heiress' people, as had ABC, but ultimately the media speculation turned the media conglomerates sour and they dropped interview codename "Rome" like a hot/stupid potato/mediawhore. NBC is in fact denying that they were even close to signing anything yet production staff have admitted to being told to be ready for the interview following her release. It has been reported that the Queen B (for bitch) will be released from Lynnwood Jail on Tuesday but authorities are not releasing the scheduled time for her exit. Guilty Pleasures 2007-06-22 13:21:00 Paris Hilton's interview with NBC has been codenamed "Rome". This is must be a comment on how powerful Rome became and then how it ultimately fell. Apparently they think Paris is that important. NBC doesn't pay for interviews, so how are they planning to launder that $1 mill to the Queen B (for bitch)? Paris' mother has told reporters that there will not be a party thrown after her daughter's release. What? A missed photo-op?Paris not getting a party only saddens me more after word from the Lohan camp said that her 21st birthday party was canceled because she has extended her stay at Promises, the resort ("rehab") she has been staying at.
