Review of Safari for Windows : A+++ !!! (Updated) 2007-06-12 00:19:00 Browsing like you've never known it !!!First off, Thank you Steve Jobs. Thank you for providing us Windows
users with an awesome alternative to the worst browser ever, Microsoft IE. And thank you for giving us a browser, Safari
which beats Mozilla Firefox hands down while browsing the same page on the same computer. But what took you so long to do this?I was a huge fan of Firefox, and this is probably the last time I will be using it. I checked out Safari today and its mindblowing. It has all the signs of a classy Apple product, right from the point you start the browser. So, what really shines in Safari? With Safari comes features like Bonjour, a software application that gives you a view of your network on the fly. It’s that easy. These bundles that come along with Safari give folks a glimpse into Apple’s software. Much like iTunes, Safari could become a critical Windows app that usurps some of Microsoft’s Windows capabilities. Safari tilts you toward Apple subliminal
Microsoft Not dropping XBOX 360 prices: I'm thrilled !!! 2007-06-11 12:41:00 A new round of speculation on a slash of the console's price tag in late 2007 started last week, following a combination of analyst predictions of a price cut this September and comments from David Hufford, a director of Xbox product management."We are well aware that the sweet spot of the market is really 199 bucks. When mom walks into the store and sees she can get a console with a game for $250, she sees it as a $300 value", Hufford said in an interview appearing on Bloomberg. However, I think people rejoiced too soon. Hufford responded to the price-drop rumours, saying his comments were not signalling a price drop as has been reported."Some are getting really spun up about the Bloomberg story and inaccurately reading tea leaves that don't exist", he states. "I spoke to Bloomberg nearly two months ago and we were talking about NPD data that had just been released, and chatting generally about price points of consoles in the market."The comment, which is accurately reported, unfortu Read more:Microsoft
Engadget Stinks !!! 2007-06-07 15:56:00 Many in the tech blogging community believe Engadget
is the poster-child for a tech blog and that its the bible among blogs. I completely disagree with that, and I believe thats the crappiest blog on Tech, if you want to find news.Take a look at that site, Engadget. It loads pathetically slowly, has a ton of crap which most of the world(and the authors themselves) dont understand. It talks about the most lame-ass devices, which no one will ever use or buy.And then, what use is a blog that does not feature an opinion or significant news, but just keeps cramming pages and pages of information into it, with tons of pictures and a flood of ads.I prefer sites like Techtree, TechDirt, Slashdot and Gizmodo. So, the next time you really want to use the news, avoid Engadget and their bunch of no-gooders posing as bloggers.
High Tech Computer Corp. announces the HTC Touch, the iPhone Rival 2007-06-06 15:55:00 High Tech Computer
Corp. announced the HTC Touch, a device based on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system that's designed with one-touch screen features giving users instant access to e-mails, contacts and appointments. The HTC Touch Taiwan's HTC is the largest maker of mobile devices based on Microsoft Windows operating systems, and its use of a 2.8-in. touch screen in the HTC Touch is similar to the emphasis Apple Inc. has put on touch-screen features in its iPhone
, which is due on June 29. Come the end of June, come the day of smartphone reckoning, come the dawn of the Apple iPhone media and consumer backlash? Indeed, despite the obvious trend-defined lure of the iPod-compatible iPhone, there is certainly no cast-iron guarantee that critic and consumer alike will embrace Apple’s latest technological offering. So, bearing that in mind, why not consider the sudden left-field appearance of HTC’s tactile alternative, the HTC Touch? Given this week’s
Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, together on stage !!! 2007-06-01 14:14:00 Nobody knew quite what to expect when, in a rare joint meeting on Wednesday, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates
and Apple CEO Steve
Jobs sat down together
for a joint interview at the fifth annual All Things Digital Conference. The two technology pioneers and fierce competitors, after all, hadn't exactly been sending each other mash notes lately. Gates had complained to NEWSWEEK in January about Apple's television ad campaign that unfavorably compare PCs to Macs, asking rhetorically if being cool meant you didn't have to tell the truth. And just a few hours before their evening meeting at the Carlsbad, Calif., conference, Jobs was taking swipes at Microsoft. When Apple wrote its iTunes application for Windows, he told attendees earlier that day, "it was like offering glasses of ice water to people in hell." But when the original PC and Mac guys finally appeared together to take questions from The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, what unfolded was more love fest Read more:Bill Gates
Xbox causes Infant's death: Microsoft, Walmart face the fire 2007-05-30 11:32:00 The family of an Illinois infant that died in a house fire has filed a lawsuit claiming that an Xbox
video game system manufactured by Microsoft
and sold by Wal-Mart Stores overheated and sparked the killer blaze. According to the suit, the wiring that connected the Xbox 360 to an electrical outlet became so hot that it started a "catastrophic" fire at a house in Warsaw, Illionis. The victim, an infant named Wade Kline, died in the inferno. "The fire was a direct and proximate result of the overheating of the game's power supply and wiring," claims the lawsuit, which was filed in State Circuit Court in Illinois. Microsoft, Wal-Mart, and an unnamed power-supply maker have been named in the suit. Wal-Mart has filed a procedural motion to move the case from state court to US District Court in Illinois. The lawsuit claims that the fatal fire occurred in December 2004, even though the Xbox 360 didn't officially launch until May 2005 -- an indication that the unit involved may actuall Read more:causes

Is Wi-Fi radiation really harmful to us? 2007-05-23 13:50:00 Over the past few weeks, concerns regarding the outlying health risks linked with the proliferation of Wi-Fi wireless networks – particularly in schools – has begun to take hold in the United Kingdom. More pointedly, calls from the scientific community are also gathering that suggest further research should be carried out on the safety of Wi-Fi networks following reports of a teacher that suffered from heavy migraines, ill health, and a lack of concentration when a Wi-Fi network was installed at his school – only to recover fully when it was later removed. Now Wi-Fi health issues are back in the media again, thanks to the arrival of a BBC Panorama documentary probing the possible health risks associated with the wireless phenomenon that’s currently spreading across the country through homes, classrooms, and businesses. The UK government has already issued claims that Wi-Fi technology is perfectly safe and much less powerful, in terms of radiation emissions, than that of sta Read more:harmful
On Top of Mount Everest: "Can you hear me now?? Goood !!" 2007-05-23 13:47:00 A British man has set a world record by making the first mobile telephone call from the summit of Mount Everest
, taking the blessing - or curse - of the cell phone to new heights. "It's cold, it's fantastic, the Himalayas are everywhere," Rod Baber said in the phone call from the top of the 8,848-metre peak early on Monday morning, according to a voice recording posted on his weblog. "I can't feel my toes, everyone is in good spirits -- we got here in record time, it is amazing," said Baber. His achievement was made possible by China Telecom, which has set up a mobile phone tower at base camp on the north side of the mountain. While the Himalayas had been cherished as one of the few places on earth where you can truly get away from it all, the news has nevertheless been welcomed by those involved in the adventure business. "It's good news because communications are essential in the mountains where climbers face huge risks," said Ang Tsering Sherpa, the president of Nepal
iPhone gets the green signal from FCC : Engadget loses credibility 2007-05-21 11:45:00 Apple Inc. received the required approval Thursday from the Federal Communications Commission for its upcoming iPhone
, the company said. The regulatory green light, a standard certification process that any cellular phone must receive before hitting the U.S. market, means the iPhone's launch can now proceed as planned, Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said."We're on track to release it in late June," agreed Mark Siegel, a spokesman for AT&T Inc.'s Cingular, the cellular carrier with an exclusive contract to distribute the highly anticipated product. "Nothing has changed."The iPhone combines a cell phone with Apple's market-leading iPod media player and sports a touch-screen display. It has been the talk of the industry since Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs unveiled it in January and gave a preview of its features. Why the RAZR is killing Motorola !!! 2007-05-17 11:18:00 A great article from Mobile Gazette, for my readers: It's one of the most iconic phones on the market, and something that redefined the way that consumers look at mobile phones. But the Motorola
RAZR V3 has turned from a thing of beauty into something more sinister.. because the RAZR is slowly killing Motorola. Motorola's sales are slumping and the handset division is making a significant loss. Major shareholders are unhappy and want something to be done urgently. However, it seems that the once successful RAZR has become a millstone around Motorola's neck. Motorola RAZR V3 To understand how the RAZR became such a menace we need to go back a few years. The original RAZR V3 was launched in mid-2004 and at the time there was nothing at all like it on the market. An very striking handset to look at, the RAZR was much thinner than anything else on the market and its sleek metallic l
Halo 3 will be out on September 25 2007-05-16 13:11:00 GAME fans should circle September
25 on their calendars. It is the release date for one of the most anticipated games ever – Halo 3. Created by Bungie Studios exclusively for the Xbox 360, Halo 3 is the concluding chapter of one of the most successful game franchises in history. Halo 2, when it was released in November 2004, generated around $150m in worldwide sales in its first 24 hours of release. To this day Halo 2 remains the most played Xbox game online with more than a billion hours logged. Halo 3, which follows the adventures of Master Chief, a super soldier battling to save mankind, will take advantage of the high-powered Xbox 360 system and expected to set a new standard in high definition gaming. "Halo 3 is much more than a video game release, it's potentially the biggest entertainment event of the year," says Nick Segger, Microsoft group product marketing manager. "For the fans though it's the chance to revisit the Halo legend and finish the fight in s
First Look : Moto Razr 2 2007-05-15 16:34:00 Motorola has today officially unveiled the successor to one of the most iconic mobiles ever made, the RAZR 2. Available in 3.6Mbps HSDPA, EV-DO, and GSM / EDGE variants as the V9, V9m, and V8 respectively, the GSM and CDMA versions of the device comes in 2 millimeters slimmer than its predecessor and -- on some versions, anyway -- will be the second to use Motorola's new Linux-based platform (the first being the Z6). It includes something Moto is calling "Crystal Talk" technology that automatically adjusts volume and tone based on ambient noise. Other features include external music controls, haptics (read: vibration) for tactile feedback when external touchscreen keys are pressed, a full HTML browser, 2 megapixel cam, the full suite of Bluetooth profiles, Windows Media Player sync, a 2-inch QVGA external display, 2.2-inch QVGA internal display, and twice the screen resolution of the original RAZR. GSM versions start shipping in early July, with CDMA following up later in the summer. Read more:First

Is Halo 3 Microsoft's trump card? 2007-05-14 16:35:00 Microsoft gave a sneak peek at its “Halo 3” game, saying the next chapter of the fast-paced shooter trilogy will help it fend off competition from Sony and Nintendo. Gamers at the invitation-only preview gave mixed reviews. “The graphics can use some work ...They’re not much different than the previous Halo,” said Nicholas Puleo, editor of gaming news Web site Evilavatar.com. “They’ve got five, six months until release, so they’ll add some polish ...When I compare it to other things in the platform, it’s not standout.” Microsoft staged previews in New York and San Francisco in advance of the public test, or “beta,” of the game, which goes live next Wednesday. A public beta is unusual for a console game, and the one for the flagship title for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is being closely watched by gamers eager to know how it looks and plays, and whether it will live up to the considerable buzz. “I definitely believe that ‘Halo 3’ is going to be bigger than Read more:Microsoft
LG.Philips unleashes world's first "paper-thin" color display 2007-05-14 16:30:00 LG.Philips
LCD, one of the world's top producers of thin-film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCDs), announced on Sunday that it has developed the world's first 14.1-inch electronic paper
(e-paper) display that is as flexible as paper, a second breakthrough in e-paper for the company, which introduced the world's first 14.1-inch black and white flexible e-paper display in May 2006. The e-paper, which measures 14.1 inches (35.9 centimetres) across its diagonal and is just 300 micrometres (0.3 millimetres) thin, is being touted as the next generation in display technology. The paper-thin and bendable viewing panel can display up to 4,096 colours by using an electronic ink from US-based E Ink, and can be viewed from a full 180 degrees, the world's second largest liquid crystal display maker said in a statement. Instead of glass, the display uses electronic circuits fo
Web 2.0 for my readers 2007-05-11 15:35:00 I thought it would be a good idea to enlighten my readers
with the concept of Web 2.0, since we're all such an integral part of it. Surprised? Read on...What Is Web 2.0? The bursting of the dot-com bubble in the fall of 2001 marked a turning point for the web. Many people concluded that the web was overhyped, when in fact bubbles and consequent shakeouts appear to be a common feature of all technological revolutions. Shakeouts typically mark the point at which an ascendant technology is ready to take its place at center stage. The pretenders are given the bum's rush, the real success stories show their strength, and there begins to be an understanding of what separates one from the other. The concept of "Web 2.0" began with a conference brainstorming session between O'Reilly and MediaLive International. Dale Dougherty, web pioneer and O'Reilly VP, noted that far from having "crashed", the web was more important than ever, with exciting new applications and sites popping up wi

Microsoft comes out with Limited Edition Simpsons' XBOX 360 2007-05-10 14:24:00 For all you Simpsons
fans out there, Microsoft
has a great product for you exclusively. It may have taken forever for The Simpsons to reach the big screen, but it looks like Fox isn't wasting any time turning products yellow to tie-in with the movie, following up its Simpsons-branded Samgung phone with a Homer-fied Xbox 360. Obsessive collectors could be in for a hard time tracking one of these down, however, as Microsoft's only producing 100 units to be given out at a series of special events and promotions. While they've gone all out with the branding, Microsoft has skimped on the console itself a bit, using the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro instead of the Elite. From the looks of it, you also won't be getting EA's just-announced Simpsons game with it, which, for a change, isn't actually based on the movie. Read more:comes

$100 laptop now becomes $175 laptop 2007-04-27 10:21:00 The "One Laptop Per Child" (OLPC) initiative planned to give notebooks computers to children at a $100 price tag, but that was apparently a little bit too cheap. The price has now been pushed up to $175, according to the Associated Press.See pictures of the OLPC laptop from CES 2007...Still, says project director Nicholas Negroponte, mass production is expected to begin in October, and the 75% price increase will not affect the prospect of reaching three million orders for the green-and-white laptops. The OLPC initiative aims to get laptops in the hands of schoolchildren in impoverished nations. So far, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Pakistan, Thailand, Nigeria, and Libya have all placed orders. Peru and Russia are also in talks to buy large quantities of the inexpensive machines, reports the AP.Quanta, the contracted manufacturer for the computers, will make about $78 profit per laptop with the new price. They will come pre-installed with a proprietary version of Windows, but can also
Blu-Ray Vs. Hd-DVD : The War Continues 2007-04-23 11:36:00 As the tirade of HD back scratching continues unabated, with the Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats vying for market and consumer dominance, supporters in both camps claim superiority at every turn despite the pendulum motion attributed to sales of software and hardware across separate regions of the world. With Sony’s recently released PlayStation 3 making a significant impact on the attraction of the Japanese giant’s Blu-ray high-definition format thanks to the videogames console’s sub-$500 USD price tag (which will soon shift to $599 USD following the production abandonment of the cheaper $499 20GB HDD model) sales of Blu-ray discs and hardware have been reported as continually outperforming that of its HD-DVD rival. Most recently, according to a related Reuters report, Home Media Magazine has released figures indicating that Q1 2007 sales attributed to HD discs are split massively in Blu-ray’s favour, with the Sony-backed format notching up 832,530 sales against HD-DVD’s 35
Why is Microsoft insecure about Google Office? 2007-04-19 17:02:00 Is Google
territpry taking over Microsoft
empire? I bet Steve Ballmer thinks so. I bet he even laced it with an abuse or two (remember what he called Google two years ago!). As the war between tech giants Microsoft, the biggest organisation in the universe and Google, the entrepreneurial technology wonder, enters its fourth year, the precision factor gets high definition. It isn't about buy outs, building empires, any longer. That's already been done. It's now time for high definition action. Attack right in the heart of the enemy. Google surely has guts of steel. But the point is is Microsoft really getting punched? Google Guts - Power of Steel Imagine an ant telling a tiger "Wanna compete?? I will beat you at your own game". That's exactly what Page has done to Gates. It requires guts of steel to take on a giant like Microsoft and beat them at their own game. Imagine this is the biggest company on earth. Apple sends another punch towards iPhone rivals : iPhone battery longer than expected 2007-06-19 12:36:00 View Larger Image Apple

life that supports eight hours of talk time, better than what the company originally estimated in January. The company said Monday the battery also supports seven hours of video playback, six hours of Internet use and 24 hours of music playback, and it will feature up to 10 days of standby time before requiring a recharge. In January, Apple said it would support up to five hours of "talk/video/browsing" and up to 16 hours of audio playback. Competitors' phones - such as Palm Inc.'s Treo and Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry Curve (TSX:RIM) - tout about four hours of talk time. In another change, the IPhone's touch-sensitive screen will be made out of optical-quality glass, instead of plastic. Five questions about the iPhone, if you're interested !! 2007-06-17 12:18:00 Thanks to BusinessWeek 1. WHERE CAN I GET ONE?The iPhone
goes on sale at 6 p.m. on June 29 in AT&T (formerly Cingular) stores, Apple outlets, and the Apple.com Web site. If a store is sold out, you can still buy a phone (and select a plan) for later pickup or delivery. Officials at the companies believe it will be available to anyone who wants one by the end of July. Both AT&T and Apple are hiring additional staff to handle the early crush of sales. But as Apple has been training its store and telephone support staff since May to walk customers through the iPhone's many features, you may want to head there first. These folks, after all, will let you play with the gear.2. WHO'S IT FOR?The iPhone is being sold as an all-in-one replacement for your iPod, BlackBerry, and digital camera. Someday it may be just that. But $499 is a lot to spend for only 4 gigabytes of memory. And don't forget the $60 a month you may pay for service and a data plan. BlackBerry 8800 : Review, pics, and everything 2007-06-26 15:14:00 Cingular Wireless recently began offering the BlackBerry
8800, RIM's latest cellular-wireless handheld, and only the second model from this company to offer support for playing video and MP3s. So I checked it out at a Cingular store. Look and Feel()The 8800 is a near lookalike to its older sibling, the BlackBerry Pearl. It sports the same dark navy blue with chrome highlights, and the same white directional controller, but swaps the Pearl's 20-key predictive input system for a full 35-key QWERTY layout. The new model also drops the Pearl's camera in favor of an internal GPS receiver, and takes advantage of its own larger size to pack in a bigger screen and a higher capacity battery. For the most part, what you see with the 8800 is what you get. No tricks, no hidden features, with the sole exception of the memory card slot, tucked under the battery cover. Unlike the Pearl, you no longer have to remove the battery in order to access the memory card. The microSD slot is still stored in
Manhunt 2 Ban : Just what the game deserves 2007-06-25 23:57:00 One of the gory scenes from Manhunt
2British censors last Tuesday banned a video game for the first time in 10 years, rejecting U.S.-published "Manhunt 2" for what they described as an unrelenting focus on sadism and brutal slaying. The decision by the British Board of Film Classification, or BBFC, means the game, from publisher Take-Two Interactive Software, which made the controversial "Grand Theft Auto" series, cannot be legally supplied anywhere in Britain.I think a similar action should be pursued in the US against the game and serious legal action should be initiated against any retailer that sells the game. As if we dont have enough Cho Seung Huis running around with semi-automatic weapons on school campuses, we dont need a game in which the sole objective is to kill people without reason, for pure sadism.Meanwhile, the people at Rockstar games, the company that created Manhunt 2 have been audacious enough to comment on the ban,
