Killzone dev: “we’ll shut up even some of the most ardent critics”
2007-06-11 06:43:01
I’m sure everyone remembers the Killzone fiasco where Sony tried to pass of a CG trailer as in-game graphics. They took a lot of heat for that. But this year, a Killzone dev says that what they’ll show this year of the game will hopefully shut up even the most ardent critics . This is the direct quote from Test Lead and QA Manager Sebastian Downie: “I am sure there are a hundred developers around the globe feeling the same way right now though. Everyone wants their game to play look and sound perfectly when the public first get to see it. If you are working on an AAA Next Gen beast of a game or something for mobile phones you want to make a good impression on people. And if you have the baggage that we have we have to give it that extra little bit. Hopefully it will all go brilliantly and we’ll shut up even some of the most ardent critics.” They have nothing to gain by lying so this definitely got me a little hyped about this game again. If the game does tu

New Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer goodness
2007-06-07 07:44:55
This is like sweet-sweet chocolate to MGS fans. A new, 13 minute Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer has been released that shows some of the same things as the TGS 06 trailer but with all around improved visuals. You’ll especially notice the improved particle effects and the cool lighting effects. This is probably one of the best game trailers I’ve ever seen and I think other devs should take notice, it’s just that good.

Ubisoft CEO: Sony to lose market share
2007-05-22 03:37:35
In a recent interview with Reuters, Ubisoft ’s president and chief executive Yves Guillemot said Sony will lose market share this generation and that Sony needs to decrease the price of the PS3 quite significantly. “For sure Sony will have a different market share … lower than before,” he said. But still, Mr. Guillemot revealed that Ubisoft plans to deliver an exclusive PS3 title in Europe. What will it be and why only Europe is anyones guess at this point. We think it’s probably still too early to tell which console will come out on top this time around. But one thing is for sure, Sony needs to get its heavy hitters out the door.

Stranglehold CE for PS3 only
2007-05-22 01:58:35
Midway has announced that Stranglehold will be getting a Collectors Edition that only Playstation 3 gamers can enjoy. Besides the game itself (duh!), the CE will have John Woo’s critically acclaimed action film Hard Boiled on Blu-Ray disc and will be available in limited quantity at select retailers for a SRP of $69.95. “The exclusive collector’s edition of Stranglehold demonstrates the power of PlayStation 3 Blu-ray disc and the total entertainment experience that can only be found on PlayStation 3. The 50GB capacity of Blu-ray disc allows PS3 content publishers to do things simply not possible on our competitor’s 9GB DVD-based systems. Thanks to the advanced technology found in PS3, developers like Midway can truly realize their visions, bringing consumers even closer to the game,” said Riley Russell, senior vice president Third Party Relations and general counsel, SCEA. Stranglehold is the successor to the Hard Boiled movie and continues the story of I

SEGA Rally is looking sweet
2007-05-17 09:51:44
SEGA Rally is one of the racers to keep an eye on when it releases this Fall. The fairly unique locations caught my eye ever since the first screenshots were released and I can’t wait to tear up the tracks. SEGA promises fully deformable environments and surfaces that will ensure no two laps will be the same. For now though, check these lovely screenshots that were released today.

Kaz Hirai: 380 games by March 2008
2007-06-21 11:05:58
It’s no secret that Playstation3 hasn’t been selling as well as Sony expected and seemingly the biggest problem is the fact that there aren’t really any must-have titles available that gamers haven’t been able to enjoy on other consoles already. But it looks like Sony plans to go full steam ahead and get a lot of games out the door this business year. Sony Computer Entertainment President Kaz Hirai says that 200 retail and 180 download-only titles will be released for the PS3 before March next year. Currently there are 60 retail and 50 download-only titles available. Let’s hope Sony will deliver on this promise and the PS3 sales will start rising around the globe.

2007-06-26 22:47:38
The Darkness has shipped and is now available in North America. And as if to celebrate that fact, 2K Games released a new video today as well, showing what you can expect from the MP portion of the game: 2K’s President Christoph Hartmann: “The Darkness takes the first-person action video game to new depths on both a visual and a gameplay level and brings the graphic novel to grisly new life. Starbreeze Studios really captured the dark and gritty storyline of The Darkness comic book. Players can experience The Darkness through an intense and engaging game that will stay with them long after they’ve set their controllers down.”

Could WWI be the new WWII ?
2007-07-05 03:25:34
A little change from all the World War II shooters - a World War I shooter was announced today. Ghostlight, the publisher of the title, promises that “To End All Wars” will take first person shooters to new heights. The game is set in WWI-era Europe and will “deliver unrivalled atmosphere and realism, bringing the mud strewn horror of this most desperate of conflicts.” Unfortunately no screenshots or videos were released to back up these rather bold claims. But they are using the Unreal 3 Engine so they do have a rock solid ground to build on. And like with other games of its kind, we can expect everything from the uniforms and weapons to the locations to look authentic. “The gritty combat in the trenches, the fear of charging across no man’s land, deadly secret excursions to enemy outposts in the dead of night and the heart stopping terror of pounding artillery guns will be central to the gaming experience.” Khaled Lababedi, Director of Ghostlight

New Cypher Complex screenshots
2007-07-03 03:09:08
Woah, I don’t think we’ve seen or heard anything about Cypher Complex since last November or so. Good news then, Edge of Reality has released these two new screenshots, and I dare say they look just as good as the earlier ones. In the one above, the main character has apparently just hid a body while the one below shows some bloody stabbing action. (more…)

60GB PS3 gets price cut, 80GB model announced
2007-07-09 03:12:06
It’s official - Sony has put out a press release stating that starting immediately, they’ve cut the price of the 60GB PS3 model by $100 in North America, making the new price $499. They also announced the new 80GB model, which will be available this August as a Motorstorm bundle, with a $599 price tag. Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America: “The introduction of the 80GB PS3, the new pricing for the current 60GB model, the availability of more than 100 new software titles this fiscal year and, finally, the expansion of services for PLAYSTATION Network, will provide even more options for users and will help bring new consumers into the PS3 fold.” Now there’s just one thing to know - when might the rest of the world see this price cut ? Six months later, like the launch in Europe..? Lets hope not.

Europe gets a Starter Pack instead of a $100 price cut
2007-07-13 07:26:13
Our hopes have been crushed - Europe won’t get the $100 price cut on the 60GB PS3. Instead, Sony announced a £425 Starter Pack that will include 2 SIXAXIS controllers and two games. The Starter Pack will be available in the UK from 18th July, and across all European territories by 1st August. And one more piece of interesting news - the 60GB PS3 will disappear from the US market after July, leaving the consumer with a 80GB choice that has the ‘good old’ $599 price tag. So get your $499 60GB PS3’s while you can.

2007-07-12 06:27:37
Here we go, new trailer and a bunch of screenshots from one of Sony’s heavy hitters - Metal Gear Solid 4. Hans-Joachim Amann from Konami: “After several months under the radar, Kojoma Productions have broken cover to blow gamers away with its latest Metal Gear Solid 4 revelations. The new trailer shows just how advanced the game is, and the sheer realism and genius we have come to expect from the Metal Gear Solid team. E3: Judgement day for Killzone 2
2007-07-11 08:29:28
Killzone 2 is a game that everyone probably wants to see the most out of PS3’s lineup. The CG trailer shown at a previous E3 was an absolute fiasco and the the time has come for gamers to judge how the real game stacks up to the “target render”. Do the devs deliver on the promise ? You be the judge, here are the first screenshots and the trailer for Killzone 2. (more…)

PS3’s sales skyrocket overnight
2007-07-10 05:29:58
Shortly after Sony’s announcement of a $100 price cut on the 60GB model yesterday, the PS3 started to rapidly climb in Amazon’s “Movers&Shakers” chart. It jumped from number 28 to number 1 in the video games category in a matter of hours, currently showing a 2700% increase in sales. I’ve told some of my PS3′less buddies about the price drop and a few of them are seriously considering picking it up now. It’s definitely odd to see that $499 is the magic price point in console sales. We’ll see if holds up though. Oh and by the way, there are rumors flying around that Microsoft will announce a $50 price drop on their Xbox360 models at their E3 press conference later today. Sony will also hold a press conference tomorrow, so things should get interesting in the next couple of days. Update: the percentage is related to the increase in Amazon’s rank, not sales. Our apologies for the mistake.

Unreal Tournament III may be delayed
2007-09-11 03:42:20
At this years E3, Epic gave Unreal Tournament III a November release date but is now saying that they might not be able to keep that date. This is what Mark Rein posted on the developers forums: “We do not know exactly when the game will be completed. All we’ve said is that we’re hoping for a November release but as you know we value getting it right over getting it right now so there’s no guarantee of that.” Disappointing, to say the least. If the game does indeed end up being delayed then hopefully it’ll be a small one. UTIII is one of the games that makes gaming oh-so-very glorious this year.
