Ready your swords for Wednesday
2007-06-11 06:20:09
I’ve been looking forward to this since it was announced last month. Prince of Persia Classic, the remake of the original Prince of Persia, will hit Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday at 10am BST. You have 60 minutes to rescue the Princess from the oh-so-evil Vizier, who has given her an hour to decide her fate - marry him or die. The Sultan of Persia is away for a war so it’s up to you, the Prince, to rescue her in that time and kick Vizier’s behind while you’re at it. I’m betting pretty much everyone who has played the original Prince of Persia will cough up the 800MS Points for this. It will be well worth it.

Assassin’s Creed dated
2007-06-08 04:48:22
The hugely anticipated Assassin ’s Creed has just got a release month assigned to it: November. Here’s a little hype from Tony Key, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft: “Assassin’s Creed is going to be a huge launch for Ubisoft this year along with the added prestige of being the start of this exciting new franchise that is bringing something completely new to the market. We’re confident that Assassin’s Creed will exceed expectations as a ‘must-have’ title this holiday season and will achieve both critical and commercial success.” And we actually have no doubt it will be a good game, Ubisoft doesn’t release many bad games these days. So look for it later this year on Xbox360, PS3 and PC. Until then, check out some of the latest media.

Overlord demo on Marketplace now
2007-06-08 04:40:32
The 891,78 MB demo for Codemaster’s crazy RPG Overlord has hit Marketplace . Here’s the press release description of what you can do in the demo: “In the demo, players don the Overlord’s illustrious armour, assemble a team of fighter minions and head off for a session of serious destruction in the once tranquil area of The Mellow Hills. As you descend upon the unsuspecting populace and wildlife that reside in the hills, use your loyal minions to gather life-force from the somewhat unwilling sheep, grow the size of your minion horde, and let the Halflings-gone-bad know there’s a new boss in town. Top that off with minion upgrades (where else do pumpkins get used as minion helmets?), throw in some peasant intimidation and a show-down with the Guard Troll at the Slave Camp and you’ll have just as taste of the havoc that a minion horde can wreak.”

2007-06-05 07:30:51
EA released some screenshots a month ago that looked pretty crap-ish compared to the HD gameplay trailers. Well, EA sets the record straight by releasing these nine new screenshots showing that the game still looks pretty. Looks good EA, now all we need is a demo.

The Club music made by pros
2007-05-29 12:58:29
SEGA announced that their upcoming third-person shooter The Club’s music will be handled by seasoned professionals: “Richard Jacques has been commissioned to score the music throughout the single-player campaign. Alongside Richard’s music are tracks from Chris Chudley for the multiplayer levels and a main theme composed by Jesper Kyd.” Richard Jacques has worked on the musical side of things on such titles as Pursuit Force and Battlestations Midway, while Jesper Kyd is known for the amazing music in Hitman: Blood Money and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. So it’s s safe to say we can expect the music in The Club to be as top notch as it can be.

The latest game in the FlatOut series has gone gold and we’ll be able to witness the destructive racing mayhem soon enough as it hits store shelves on June 22nd. All the hard work is over and FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is ready to hit the primetime and to take its rightful place as the number one destruction racer on the market. This is one game you need to check out for its amazing action, spectacular visuals and just superb action racing!” I remember playing the original FlatOut for PC and being absolutely blown away by it. That game had everything, great visuals, physics, 50 meter jumps, it was frickin’ insane. Hopefully Ultimate Carnage will be no different. The demo for FlatOut Ultimate Carnage should be hitting Marketplace but unfortunately we don’t have a date or time at this time. In the meantime, check out this fresh batch of screenshots: (more…)

Guile joins the HD generation
2007-06-18 00:06:07
Progress on Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD keeps chugging along. Earlier in the week, Capcom posted a newly redrawn sprite of Guile on Capcom Digital as it will appear in the Xbox Live Arcade release. While I certainly believe the composition is great, I think this new image of Guile (drawn by artists over at Udon Comics) is a bit lacking in that unique Capcom style. What do you think? Images released thus far after the jump. (more…)

Beautiful Katamari exclusive to 360?
2007-06-15 16:15:21
In a announcement of “MGS4 exclusive to 360″ caliber news, N’Gai Croal over at Newsweek.com has it on good authority that Beautiful Katamari will be announced at the July E3 Media and Business Summit as being exclusive to the 360. Seriously though, although still a rumor, what does this mean for Xbox 360? The Katamari series, though fun and mildly popular, is by no means a game that will make a break a console. However, this move by Bandai-Namco could signal a possible change in attitudes from large Japanese developers. The Xbox 360 isn’t exactly setting the world on fire in Japan and Bandai-Namco’s push for the Xbox 360 could encourage other companies to throw their support behind the Xbox 360 thus leveraging the 360’s success here in the states. Square-Enix, though not as relevant as they were 4 years ago, could potentially offset some of the costs associated with the production of their games by supporting the 360 as well (Last Remnant, not withst

Half Life 2: The Orange Box receives release date
2007-06-15 11:53:08
By way of an interview with Shacknews.com, representatives of Valve have confirmed that the multi-game package will ship for the Xbox 360 on October 9, 2007. Half Life 2: Orange Box will consist of Half Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, HL2 Episode 2, Portal and the multi-player sequel Team Fortress 2. Portal is a brand new chapter in the Half-Life mythology and Team Fortress is the sequel to the original Team Fortress on the PC. With this announcement, and the release of The Darkness in June, Bioshock in August, and of course, Halo 3 in September, Xbox 360 gamers will have their schedule booked (and their wallets empty) for the foreseeable future. -David Patterson

Mass Effect prettier than before
2007-06-15 08:27:15
BioWare has released some new screenshots from their ambitious Xbox360-exclusive sci-fi action RPG Mass Effect . And it’s looking somewhat prettier than I remember it. Hopefully the game won’t be a total lagfest because of these upgrades as I recall seeing some very noticeable frame rate drops in the X06 demo. But it does look pretty.. (more…)

Halo 3 “viral” ad campaign
2007-06-14 21:09:58
What began with Halo 2’s “ilovebees.com” viral advertising campaign appears to be continuing with an apparent Halo 3 counterpart. An email was sent today to subscribers of Xbox.com’s “Xbox Flash” email newsletter. The letter details an apparent advent of war and urges the reader (referenced as the “keeper of the flame”) to act before it is too late. Although the email does not reference Halo 3 directly, the background is rendered in the unmistakable Halo art style. Read the email after the jump. (more…)

Haze is 360-bound
2007-06-19 17:53:08
UPDATE: Ubisoft has updated yesterday’s release list by removing any mention of the 360 or PC versions of Haze. The only platform listed for release is Playstation 3. It would appear that we have another Assassin’s Creed type debacle on our hands. Never-mind the fact that the Official Haze website only displays the Playstation 3 logo. Ubisoft has indeed confirmed that Free-Radical’s shooter is headed to the Xbox 360 by way of a leaked release list. According to Kotaku, the confusion presented itself when Ubisoft originally announced Haze as a multi-platform release, only to subsequently confirm its exclusivity to Playstation 3. Well folks, the title is still exclusive to the Playstation 3. That is if you can count 1 week as an exclusive. That’s right, Haze will be released November 23 “exclusively” on the Playstation 3. Haze will then make its way over to the Xbox 360 just seven days later on November 30. Remember when exclusive really meant just t
