Bioshock banned at Valve
2007-08-28 13:00:29
Gabe Newell, the CEO of Valve Software, has banned Bioshock from the Valve offices saying no one will play it until the company finishes The Orange Box, which is due out October 19. Here are the mans words to CVG: “We had to ban Bioshock from our offices. Nobody gets to play it until Orange Box is done - that’s our reward to ourselves as a company; everyone gets a copy of Bioshock.” Well, unless Newell has been keeping his employees trapped at the Valve offices until their work is finished, we’re sure Big Daddy has made some house calls.

TDU gets the Classics treatment
2007-08-29 15:08:45
Atari sent over a trailer for the Classics version of Eden’s Test Drive Unlimited today and strangely, even though I’ve played the game to death, it made me want to pop in the game and take a few of my beautiful in-game cars for a drive around the island again. I had almost forgotten how cool this game was. Seriously, if you still haven’t tried the game then do yourself a favor and get it! There’s a demo on Xbox Live Marketplace too but that’s nothing compared to the full game, trust me. In the meanwhile, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for that Test Drive Unlimited 2 rumor to become true. (more…)

Accuracy Boost for $10 ?
2007-09-19 08:38:44
A company called KontrolFreek has released a new add-on for the 360 controller that will allegedly considerably increase accuracy. The product is named SpeedFreek and is a little piece of plastic you attach to your controllers analog stick (pictured above). It seems Dan Greenawalt, Game Director at Microsoft agrees, when it comes to racing games at least: “After using it for the better part of the afternoon, I’m convinced. While it’s no replacement for a good racing wheel, it’s a remarkable improvement over an unaltered thumbstick. I’m able to roll my thumb across the control and use the raised walls to manipulate the control much more precisely. It just feels natural. I’m always struck by how some of the most meaningful innovation is often the most low-tech improvements on an old idea.” The developers of the upcoming Project Gotham Racing 4 at Bizarre Creations also agree: “When we first heard about KontrolFreek we were all skeptical – but after receiving the sample

Eidos loses Arcade virginity
2007-09-19 07:25:45
Eidos has launched their first Xbox Live Arcade title today - Geon: Emotions. Geon emotions includes six game modes, with single-players facing ‘Time Attacks’ and ‘Duels’ while up to four people can compete in split-screen competitions that allow them to work together or battle it out in ‘Last Man Standing’ death-matches. Each game begins with players rushing to collect E-Motes before using their specific powers to debilitate the opposition. The use of E-Motes allows players to exploit the weakness of the emotions the CPU or rival players control. Rage, for instance, can be sedated with a powered-up Bliss attack, while Passion can be similarly tempered with a blast of Melancholy. With the opposition in disarray, the player can then charge across the two-sided play area to score the five goals needed to win the match. The game is available on XBL Arcade right now for 800 MS Points.

BioWare has released Part One of the Character Spotlight videos for their upcoming sci-fi RPG Mass Effect and if this video is any indication then the voice acting in this game is seriously going to rock. The developers talked about Mass Effect having a revolutionary advanced dialogue system and everything that goes with it from the start so it will definitely be interesting to how well they’ve managed to pull that part off. Mass Effect will be released on in North America on November 20 and in Europe on November 23.

Bizarre already thinking about PGR5, PGR4 demo soon
2007-09-15 05:26:46
In an interview with CVG, lead designer Ged Talbert is already pondering over where PGR5 should take the series. Talbert: “Obviously Gotham 4’s about to come out and we’re really happy with it, but behind the scenes we’ve already started ripping our game to pieces.” “I personally believe there’s a lot we can do by taking our vehicles we’ve already got and putting them into different, more interesting environments.” “We could bring cruisers in, we could bring ATV-type bikes in. None of these are definite,” he said, “but there’s are whole world of things for us to do.” Damn, we haven’t even played PGR4 yet and already I’m drooling over how cool PGR5 might, and probably will, turn out. But let’s stick to PGR4 for now - the demo should hit Xbox Live soon. We don’t know if it’s hours or days, but we tend to lean towards days.

Halo 3 Launch: The Biggest Day In US Entertainment History
2007-09-27 23:42:51
As many expected, Halo 3 has managed to accomplish something mighty impressive - it has officially become the biggest entertainment launch in history, garnering an estimated $170 million in sales in the United States alone in the first 24 hours. Meaning it has beat previous records set by releases like the “Spider-man 3” movie and the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” novel. Neil Thomson from Microsoft UK: “Halo 3 has become a pop-culture phenomenon. Not only is “Halo 3” setting sales records, it’s also redefining entertainment.
