BAK2u on Yahoo.com (A LoJack for Cell Phones)
2007-06-14 15:03:00
Reader Manfred Wedell writes: A day or two ago I asked if you knew of any "LoJack" type service for cell phones, to which you said you didn't and suggested simply getting another phone. However, I've stumbled upon what may be just that!Manfred sent me this link to a review of a software product called PhoneBak, which appears to be very similar to what LoJack for Laptops offers. According to the review, the software works like this: PhoneBak doesn't do anything unless a new SIM card is inserted into the phone, at which point the phone sends you a text message containing information that could help you identify the phone and its new "owner." That info includes the SIM card's ID number, the phone's ID number, and the phone number of the new SIM card. With this info it should be much easier to track down where the phone went... more

Cash upfront or cash buildup?
2007-06-13 03:55:00
This is a common question that my students always like to ask me ... better to have a cash payment for blog advertisement or to let it build up (through pay per click) and then get a lump sum later?I always reply with a question 'do you prefer to get a monthly salary for the work done or the total sum only end of the year?'For payperclick, it is accumulated over time when potential buyers click those advertisements .. then perhaps when the amount hits a certain figure you be paid by a cheque. But for those more direct, hassle free ones ... you get paid immediately when you place a banner for like 30 days at your blog. Short and sweet. There are Pros and Cons but just remember, study your own blog first and yourself what type of values can you also give back too. Look for long term not just hit and run with a one time advertisement campaign. Also measure how much effort is needed too. If just by placing a simple HTML codes on your 'not-many-people' visit blog, how can you expect to ea

How much have you earned?
2007-07-04 20:21:00
Since starting have you keep track of how much have you earned? Are these advertisements, banners, pay per click giving you any incomes or you are just giving up your blog space for free advertisements? One thing about placing banners at your blog and with no one clicking it, either the advertisements are not targeting the right crowd or it is just placed wrongly where it doesnt attract any eyeballs on it at all. In the end, you are just giving free advertisements to the service provider and to the advertisers. Do something to it, monitor it and then do a trial and error to the location and make a note to the result if it matches your effort too.------Tags: payperclick, advertisement, money, banner, cash

As mentioned before, dont get too fixated that you can make money only through those clicks on your advertisements at your blog. You can go beyond that. How?Firstly, you gonna make sure that your blog itself is presentable before you go around telling others that you blog and attempt to make money from it. You be surprised that there are many small and medium sized companies are looking into blogs to market their products and services targeting the readers and bloggers too.Polish up your skills and market yourself as the guy that they can look to when they wanna outsource setting up a blog. This is no different from companies that look for freelance designer to do their websites. Your blogging skill is a tad different but not that much as the same effort and hardwork and a certain level of professionalism is needed to.Go figure out what you can and what you want to provide first before running around offering blogging services :)------Tags: blogging, outsource, freelance, design, skill

Affordable Solutions For Internet Marketing
2007-07-31 21:37:00
Do you have a website that is getting very little or no traffic at all? Well, there are ways that you can change that even on a small marketing budget. We will review each of the strategies you can use to promote your website, and then we will try to assimilate them into a single, uniform strategy that is both highly effective and affordable.First of all, TV commercials, radio ads, and print advertising are very expensive. This is undoubtedly the best way to launch a business, but the costs are prohibitive. A full page ad in a prominent magazine or other publication can run as high as $50,000 per ad. TV commercials can run just as high; if the commercial runs during a popular television show or sporting event, the cost will be enormous. So, if you do not have enough money in the coffers for traditional advertising, you will likely have to use online marketing. This is not a bad thing. Offline advertising (i.e. radio, TV, print ads) is sometimes not effective. Marketing on the internet i

[Q&A] Why do you blog? - Guest: CobaltPaladin.blogspot.com
2007-08-07 21:58:00
http://cobaltpaladin.blogspot .com/Why do you blog?I started blogging partly because I was curious about blogging: its technology, the people, the trend etc. I wanted to find out what were RSS feed, trackback, ping etc and also wanted to understand why do people blog and be aware of how it may affect my current business, if any. So the best way to find out was to start blogging and experience it myself. The other reason I started blogging because I wanted to keep a journal about my life, so that my children in future can know and maybe understand who their 'old man' really was, aside from the stern and strict father exterior. I had also wanted to share my personal experience in the entrepreneurship journey. What do you hope to achieve from blogging?Blogging has started as an experiment but now it has become a way for me to share my personal entrepreneurial experience. Hopefully, by sharing, I'll be able to let more people know that they are not alone; encouraging them to come for

Does Pay Per Click work in Singapore?
2007-08-18 10:16:00
There were some discussions about if PPC will work in Singapore , coming from the angle of advertisers and not bloggers. Why? Bloggers will sign up when such a service is available but the question is will the advertisers especially local companies be enticed to sign up for it too since they are the paymaster to the service provider and the bloggers that place the banners on their sites? This is especially so when the commercial blog scene is rather new and it may take a while for the companies to be assured that their money will be well spent even if it is a pay per click payment model. It may also be argued that many Asians tend to just view the content on the blogs and that's it. No clicking of banners, no clicking of anything with a bit of hint of advertisements (Ads by Google, Amazon, Affiliate etc are sorta a turn-off for many Asians). How true is this?We did a simple test with just a group of 35 attendees who often surf the internet and with some readers of local blogs too; Questi

Be Honest with Blog Titles
2007-08-24 01:46:00
Too many times bloggers make use of very catchy blog titles to capture the attention of other bloggers to their sites. It can be something related to sex but has nothing in the content to justify it or some pun intented title only to have the readers themselves realised it is not as it is.Strike a balance on it cos at the end of the day, readers are not stupid nor naive. Once bitten, twice shy. They wont bother to visit your blog again, anymore. One of the example, will be in Ping.sg where some blog titles are not at all related to their content. After I visited once and found out it is just a bait, I will immediately go back to Ping.sg and click the 'I hate this blog' to highlight to me that this is a blog to avoid. The blogger is not honest, it is just a bait to have more traffic and probably to increase the chances of having some clicks to its advertisements too. Life will be better not to be associated with such bloggers.By being honest with relevant titles to your latest entries,

How do I put AdSense on my blog?
2007-08-30 23:13:00
Something that many tend to ignore when setting up your Adsense in your blog. From Blogger.com:First of all, choose the blog that you want to put AdSense on, and go to the Template | Page Elements tab. You can get there by clicking the "Layout" link on the dashboard, or clicking the "Template" tab from the posting or settings page of the blog. Once you're there, click on one of the "Add a Page Element" links. Choose the one that corresponds to the area of the page that you want to contain your AdSense ads. The "Choose a New Page Element" window comes up, from which you can select the AdSense option. The next page you see will have an AdSense sign up page. If you're new to AdSense, go ahead and fill it out to create an account. If you already have an AdSense account, click the "sign in" link instead so you don't accidentally make an extra account. Once you've signed in or created or account, you'll get the configuration screen. Use the menus to select a format, and o

Google Brings Ad-Supported YouTube Videos to AdSense Publishers
2007-10-10 00:33:00
Publishers can earn revenue from companion ads, which sit atop the video window like banner ads on a Web page, and text overlay ads, which occupy the bottom 20% of the video frame. Google on Monday said that it has made ad-supported YouTube videos available to publishers in its AdSense network. "Video units enable AdSense publishers to display videos from several YouTube content partners," said Christine Lee, product marketing manager for Google's AdSense, in a blog post. "The video units are ad-supported, and the ads are relevant to both the video and the site content, as well as unobtrusive. AdSense publishers and YouTube content partners will receive a share of the ad revenue, so video units enable both groups to earn incremental revenue." Google has been testing video units for AdSense since last year. It has run pilot programs offering ad-supported content from MTV Networks, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group to a limited group of online publishers. Now any Eng
