Where Color Meets Therapy
2007-07-03 00:43:01
CAROL’S DAUGHTER is one of the fastest growing “indie” beauty brands and has gained quite a cult following with their bath products. Now they are expanding into the color cosmetic category with the launch of Candy Paint, a new collection of natural high-shine lip glosses loaded with natural ingredients and a tint of color. And with each purchase of the Paint, they will donate a portion of its profits to the Lupus Foundation of America. It’s available in 12 yummy colors, but I’d have to go with Park Avenue Bling (sheer pink shimmer) as my favorite. The best part is the infusion of Shea butter, aloe vera and grape seed oil, which protect and hydrate your lips, total lip therapy. They feel super soft and smooth as glass. And the trace of peppermint is a energizing bonus. $13.50 @ sephora.com ~Lisa

MAC n’ Me
2007-07-02 12:02:52
The new limited edition Moonbathe Collection from MAC is a must for summer. Golds, plums, shimmers, pearls and frosts -- summer moonlight colors! My love affair with their Lipglass has gone on forever and will never end. Elaborate is a gold pearl frost that melts hearts. For those of you who want a little more color on your lips, try the Lipstick in Solar Plum, an iridescent berry with red and gold pearl frost. Pair these two shadows for sexy eyes: Cosmic (warm gold w/pearl) and Fire Spot (deep olive with gold pearl). All these come in the Moonbathe signature white pearized outer cases. They stand out on your dresser, that’s for sure!  Don’t forget the wonderful Nail Lacquers ($10), especially Fireball in my favorite tangerine with gold and orange pearl. Each is $14 except where listed @ maccosmetics.com ~Lisa

Splish Splash I Was Takin' A Bath ...
2007-07-01 22:17:05
I can’t help feeling like I should be singing when using any product from the OPEN SUNDAES line because they are all so fun to use. After a long day, nothing beats throwing a Cupcake Solid Bubble Bath Bomb ($9) into a tub and just relaxing in the water. Available in seven sensational scents and shaped like bakery cupcakes, I love Blue Hawaii because the trio of chocolate, coconut and vanilla moisturizes my skin and satisfies my sugar craving, but be careful not to eat them no matter how difficult they are to resist.  I’m also a sucker for scrubs and have fallen in love with Sugar Body Scrub in Grapefruit ($28/8oz). This gentle exfoliant with brown sugar and fine oils sloughs away dead skin cells and leaves skin feeling like silk and the bear shaped container is absolutely adorable. Check out all four new scents because they are delish and spruce up any bath. I also have to rave about Raspberry Sorbet Every Day All Over Wash ($18/6oz). I use this foaming cleanser from head to

More Perfect

TERAX has revamped their whole line. I have always really liked their Shampoos ($20) and Conditioners ($20-$48) so I am focusing on those right now. They were already fantastic so I don’t know how they could have improved perfection. Well they added a new exclusive Gentlewash System to the five Shampoos. This makes each sulfate free so it doesn’t strip the hair and helps preserve hair color. And since I only use sulfate-free shamps, this is a treat! Also new are the bottles. All the styling products are a seafoam green and the shamps and conditioners are a true blue color. Look for features of their styling products in the coming months. All @ sephora.com

Your Daily OILY Face
2007-07-07 01:28:59
Gotta blemish or other unsightly existence on your face? ORGANICS101 wants to help. The line was created by a former ad exec/interior designer after a friend introduced her to Electrolyzed Oxidative water (Holy Water, as she calls it) and how it kept her skin acne free. She started the line based on it and the rest, as they say, is history. Even as adults, we still can have issues so you need to get your skin on a daily regimin to help control oil. Start with their Corrective Cleanser ($24.50/7oz). This one won’t make your skin work overtime by stripping it dry. Next, spray on Steer Clear ($20/6oz) to reset the skin’s pH and add a protective barrier, as they call it. Lastly, apply their Break-Free ($24.50/2oz), which is their flare-up protection night cream, to rejuvenate and heal the skin. The line also offers a blemish dissolver, Spotless ($16.50/1oz), Dry-Clearner ($22.50/4oz) and Fine-Tune ($33/4oz) face masks. If you want to be more green in everyday living, this is a start

Magic Slab
2007-07-05 22:27:39
Sexy dresses that dip down to there are in full swing now that summer is here so you want your décolleté to look it’s best. You know, the area below your neck and above your girls. We never give much thought to it but as we age, this area can get wrinkles, especially if you are carrying a larger than average cup size, or have spent a lot of time in the sun. For me, I think sleeping on my side exasperates the situation. So for a temporary smoothness, give DECOLLETTE PADS ($28.95 @ decollettepads.com) a try. Just stick the 5”x3” silicon strip onto the area for 20 to 60 minutes before your don that sexy dress and you'll have a smooth surface for quite a few hours. The pad is reusable and you can wear it while you’re cleaning the house or catching up on reviews on Cybelesays! I don't know what's in it and they say even those with sensitivity to silicone can safely use it. I just know it works! It can also be worn while you sleep but I found it came unstuck around the edges as

My Name Is Cybele and I Have No Makeup On
2007-07-05 19:24:17
Clean and sober is the way of life for a lot of people out here in LA. URBAN DECAY's new Clean & Sober Oil-Free Makeup Remover ($18/3.4oz @ sephora.com) really cleans and sobers up skin using a really fun gel formula. Using jasmine, lotus honey and botanicals, it doesn’t iritate eyes or skin. You’d be surprised at the number of makeup removers on the market that sting eyes. And the design on the bottle was developed by a celebrity tattoo artist. How hip you are Urban Decay!

Aroma Scrub
2007-07-05 16:15:36
Anything from INGRiD MiLLET is first class in my book. A new staple for my shower is the Aroma Exfoliating Gel. Not only is this good for all skin types by being extremely gentle, but it smells like sweet pink grapefruit so it’s a treat for your senses as well as for your face. The pink buffing bead gel provides a mild but thorough exfoliation that leaves your skin looking smooth and feeling tight. It really seems to make a difference in my skin’s texture. I use it three times a week with no irritation at all. Ooo la la! $42/4.2oz @ ingridmilletusa.com ~Lisa

Two Pongs Without the Ping
2007-07-05 11:39:48
JELLY PONG PONG has something super special for the shoe fanatic! Whether you favor flats or high heels, you’re going to love their new Shoe Palette ($9) from the One Swipe And Go Collection. I tried and love Vertigo Stiletto and Plush Pumps, which is an eye shadow and lip duo in a magnetic pink case with a mirror for easy applications on the go. The bronze shadow in the Vertigo seems to work better for my eyes as it really makes my blue eye color appear bluer! And did I mention how tote-able it is? Chic Shine ($19), another product in this collection, is quickly becoming my other favorite. It’s a duo of matte blush and sheer gloss in a teeny easy to pack case with an inside mirror for touch ups on the go. I’m using Ballerina with a pink blush and sheer pink red gloss. A perfect pairing! Be sure to check out the other colors as well because they are winners. All @ cherryculture.com ~Randi

Scents of Summer
2007-07-04 23:57:52
What a great way to kick off our new feature Scents of Summer . For the rest of season we will be featuring products fit for summertime - bath, body, fragrances - if it screams or whispers summer, you’ll see it here. Here’s a scent I could smell while it was still in the box! ARCHiPELAGO BOTANiCALS' new Grapefruit Collection is all citrus and all refreshing. Each product awakens the senses and gets you ready for your day. Made with premium ingredients and natural anti-oxidants including Grape Seed Extract, mucho vitamin E, Jojoba among others, this collection is one that will stay at the forefront of my dresser. Our picks are the Body Polish ($27/10oz) and the Lip Butter ($12/.53oz). It also comes in the form of everything from a Detox Bath Soak ($30/15oz) to a nourishing Dry Body Oil ($29/8oz). Big recommendation. All @ beautyexclusive.com

Cheeeerio from London
2007-07-04 23:56:24
What a joy it is to open a high quality candle line, especially when the scent is so unique. London’s, PENHALiGON’S Lily & Spice Classic Candle ($40/4.9oz = 30 hours @ penhaligons.com) is made of a soft fine wax instead of hard wax so they are able to include more fragrance oil inside. The scent? Think lily, brown pachouli (very sparse) and spice. It’s breathtakingly refreshing. Big recommendation. This scent also comes in a body fragrance form that I have to have!

Skin Science
2007-07-03 12:13:41
File this one under luxury cream. MD SKiNCARE new Hydra-Pure Firming Body Cream ($120 @ sephora.com) is the latest in technology packed in a 6.7oz tub. The goal of this cream is to remove the harmful ingredients that can fall on the skin and act as a barrier for a cream. Something as simple as the water we use to wash our skin with that contains the heavy metals like iron, copper and zinc, can be sensitive to some people. It basically helps give you a stronger base so the essential oils, vitamins and other ingredients inside the cream can really do their job to help moisturize and firm. It's based on the same technology of their sunscreens Lisa wrote about a few weeks ago. Since we’ve seen two of their products using this kind of science in the past month alone, I’m curious to see if more will crop up.

Scents of Summer
2007-07-10 20:36:37
Here’s another trend for summer – lighter versions of existing fragrances. I’ve been seeing a lot of companies do this lately: DIOR, Guerlain, YSL, and Issey Miyake, to name a few. Summer is the time for feathery, delicate scents, not heavy heady ones. If you are unsure, stick with more diluted version of a scent, an Eau de Toilette or body splash. One that just crossed my desk and caught my eye is the MATTHEW WiLLiAMSON Sheer Eau de Toilette ($60/1.7oz) just crossed my desk and caught my eye. This is a lighter version of their signature floral scent, which is notes of lime oil, green tea, bergamot, ginger, jasmine, magnolia, lily of the valley, Easter lily, sandalwood, benzoin, amber and musk. Sultry and flirty. Like to layer? They also offer this scent in a Body Oil ($50/3.4oz) form. Both @ Nordstrom stores nationwide.

Sun-Sational Sunscreen
2007-07-10 19:42:40
I know that Cybelesays is all about beauty and nothing else but to roll out a new summer feature, we just had to relay some startling info. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer it is the most common form of the disease in the United States. After reading all the statisitcs, the one that I will remember and leave you to think about is the following from the National Cancer Institute -- “1 in 59 men and women will be diagnosed with melanoma during their lifetime.” Onto the new summer feature … Each week Sun-Sational Sunscreen will select one that meets all the important factors like high UVA/UVB protection, sweatproof/waterproof, made for sensitive skin, for children, hair or targets specific areas etc. Here's our first picks: Who thinks of lips when it comes to protecting them from the sun? Greece’s APiViTA did with their collection of Lip Aids ($7 @ apivita.com) from the Propoline collection. There are six balms and three contain an SPF 15 and lip skin

What Works?
2007-07-10 18:01:58
Ok, that was an obvious title but I couldn’t resist because THiS WORKS really works! The line is based out of London and was created by two former beauty industry veterans. Each product is formulated using 100% natural and raw materials and the ingredients are imported from all over the world. The line is a little pricey but remember you are paying for the quality of the ingredients and each product is preservative-free so no mass production here. My pick from the line this week is the Energy Bank Bath and Shower Gel ($35/6.7oz @ barneys.com). It contains no SLS’s and uses a blend of Ylang Ylang from Madagascar, Geranium is sourced China and Sandalwood from India to help bring the world to a standstill, if only for a moment. Ahhhh …

Picture Perfect Palettes ... For A CONTEST!
2007-07-09 19:58:51

Since I reside in the Big Apple, I’ve been toting the New York palette with me everywhere. I love the pink lip and cheek colors and pink and champagne shadows. $18 @ avon.com    If you have a little extra money and can splurge, don’t miss the chance to do so on SCOTT BARNES new Glamour To-Go Palette ($55). Phew, Relief!
2007-07-09 19:57:41
I know to cover up with sunscreen when I go outside, especially my face. So you can imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning with quite a burn on my shoulderblades. I guess I didn't cover that area well enough. I’m glad I had BODY DRENCH Skin Therapy Sunburn Relief Gel ($20/16.9oz @ amazon.com) on hand for my sore limbs. I didn’t know that regular moisturizers won’t let the skin breathe when you have a burn so for immediate relief you have to apply something that is made for a burn. This one has vitamins A and E micro-beads inside that dissolve when you rub them on the skin to instantly sooth and reduce redness. Ahhh, comforting and no stickiness.

Scents of Summer
2007-07-08 21:02:23
In continuing our coverage of the best summer scents, H2O+ has just come out with some “hot time in the summer” products. After a long day at the pool, jump in the shower and slather on their Bath Aquatics Poolside Shower & Bath Gel ($9/8oz) and then the Bath Aquatics Poolside Mositurizing Body Balm ($11.50/8oz). Yes they're fun but they're also good for skin. The Gel contains botanical blends, seaweed extract and Aloe Vera, among others. And the Balm contains Glycerin to help retain moisture. Each has notes of magnolia blossom, green melon and white floral. So sunny and happy this duo is! Both @ h2oplus.com

Bring On the Days of Wine & Roses
2007-07-07 22:18:02
We at Cybelesays are big fans of quality soaps and this SOLESSENCE Signature Organic Coconut & Shea Botanical Block Soap in the Days of Wine & Roses ($8/7oz @ solessence.com) is right up at the top. It contains all things organic - African Shea butter, coconut milk, and avocado oil. It’s totally Vegan, as is the rest of the line, so if you or someone in your life is looking to cleanse their body the natural way, Solessence is the way to go. This is a line to watch.

Two from Tarte
2007-07-07 19:11:57
There’s a new color in the TARTE Stain or Shine Collection. Those of you who really prefer using a lip stain over lipstick will really be keen on the Rise & Shine Plumping Lip Stain in Mauve ($21), which also includes a plumping lip gloss on the other end. So one side is a waterproof pink stain topped with a light mauve color gloss and the other pumps you up. ~Lisa If you are looking for a normal looking sunless tan, Sunburst Body Beaded Bronzing Lotion with Self-Tanner ($49/5oz) from the same collection is your answer. This 2-in-1 gives a tan and moisturizes. Apply this oil-free blend anywhere as you would any face lotion and watch as the mini bronzing beads give you a gradual and long-lasting color that you can build up as you continue to apply more. And it’s suitable for all skin tones! A great blend of plant derived ingredients gives you lots of hydration and allows me the natural looking tan I’ve been seeking. What a winner. ~RandiBoth @ tartecosmetics.com

The Name Says It All
2007-07-14 18:38:54
BARE ESCENTUALS bareMinerals Volume III Three Perfect Blushes w/Blush Brush ($36 @ sephora.com). There is one for everyone: Poppy (peach brown), Laughter (coral rose), and Lovely (sweet pink). Blend any of them to create your own unique shade every time.

Sun-Believable
2007-07-14 14:05:10
I happen to be a naturally pale girl with a love for the bronzed look. So, one could say that I’m a big fan of self-tanners. I have tried almost all of them searching for the ideal consistency, even fading, with a flawless natural look. This new one from BLiSS, A Tan For All Seasons ($34/4.40z @ sephora.com), is one of the closest products I’ve used to obtain the ideal tint. The first thing I noticed was the color of the product right out of the can. Most self-tanners have an orange hue to its product, giving your skin a final output of that orangey look, which screams “tan out of a can”. This one comes out of the can with a purple tint, which at first made me nervous, but ended up drying to a warm, brown bronze. I loved the easy to spray method with its instant color to help create flawless coverage. Another quality I look for in a self tanner is the final color staying on your skin and not seeping onto your clothing. This product dries quickly and didn’t budge thorough out

Indulge In A Luxury Wallet
2007-07-13 18:48:46
What I mean is, indulge in this couture collection of lip products from WALLETT COSMETICS. If you love a classic naturally beautiful look, these are for you! The formulas are filled with moisturizing botanical ingredients such as orange, jojoba and raspberry oils, Shea butter and antioxidants to keep lips soft. You can smell the orange when you apply them! The Plumping Lip Glosses ($18) comes in five wearable natural looking colors. I paired Nude (pink nude) with their Lip-Pencil in Cameo which is a very close color match to this gloss, and came up with a new color I have not seen before. And believe me, I thought I’d seen all the colors of the rainbow when it came to lip products. Both @ wallett.com ~Lisa

Hair Challenged
2007-07-13 13:02:55
I don’t much follow the trends of the celebs but I just read that Rachel Ray uses this next one religiously and I know she has pretty straight hair for the most part. The CUTLER SALON based in NYC is a new one to the site and the line consists of shampoos, conditioners, styling products and even styling brushes. My pick of the line is the Straightening Balm ($17/4.5oz @ cutlersalon.com). My hair has a slight wave to it that I can play up or, with this one, play down and get straight strands. It uses Pro-Vitamin B5, wheat proteins, a multi-vitamin complex and other ingredient to keep it straight throughout the day, as that’s the real test. According to WWD they just added a Volumizing Spray ($21) and a Definition Cream ($25) to the line. Can’t wait to try the new additions.

Wiggle It ... Just A Little Bit
2007-07-12 22:38:17
Perfect for summer are Shower Jellies from LUSH. These wobbly blobs that are made to cleanse the body look like Jell-O and can be stored in the fridge or freezer and taken out to use on hot summer mornings or nights for a super-refreshing shower. Slice or dice a sliver and use this fragrant jelly all over your body and you can even use it in your hair. If you are more of a bathing diva, toss this into the tub for lots of bubbles. They all contain nutritious seaweed gel so they are also great for softening skin. I just finished using the Sweetie Pie (a berry blast) and I know I’ll be trying some of the other five scents in this cool collection. $6.25/3.5oz @ lush.com ~Randi
