Cyndi has denied all reports that Britney Spears is joining the tour. You can also hear Rosie speak about it on her blog @ rosie.com (it is about 2 minutes into her new video post) Here is a quote: "And the rumors are swirling about that Britney is joining us in LA. Now Cyndi said it wasn't happening, and it's [thank you] it's Cyndi's tour, so she would know.  More on this topic:iVillage the WebiVillage's Daily Blabber, NYRosie to Britney: 'I Love You, Kid'People Magazine

Dallas Voice Tour Review
2007-06-28 12:25:00
By Todd Maternowski Saturday night at Smirnoff, a dance-crazed horde of Dallas ites were treated to a truly unique benefit show. The True Colors 2007 Tour, put together by Cyndi Lauper and sponsored by Logo, the gay and lesbian cable channel, coincides with Gay & Lesbian Pride Month and is intended to promote both the Human Rights Campaign and the Matthew Shepard Foundation, organized in the wake of the tragic murder of Matthew Shepard eight years ago. According to the tour's promotional materials, one dollar from every ticket will go towards the HRC. (Frankly, at $21-76 per ticket -- not including the $11 Ticketmaster "convenience free" and $15 parking -- it would've been nice to see more than a dollar go toward a good cause). The evening's festivities were a mix of classic 80s gay-friendly pop megastars, cutting-edge new artists and the stand-up comedy stylings of Margaret Cho and Rosie O'Donnell.Margaret Cho opened with some hit-or-miss comic

Truly, Madly Cyndi

Pop Music Review: Truly, madly Cyndi 05:13 PM CDT on Sunday, June 24, 2007 By JENNY BLOCK / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News guidelive@dallasnews.com  "I am part of your extended family," Cyndi Lauper said to what seemed to be a mostly gay audience at Smirnoff Center on Saturday night – Ms. Lauper's "True Colors" concert tour benefits Human Rights Campaign and other groups concerned with gay rights. Margaret Cho, the mistress of ceremonies, began the night by introducing Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione, known as The Dresden Dolls. These two don't play their instruments. They attack them. And Ms. Palmer's vocals and their songs' lyrics are no less dramatic. Ms. Cho quickly hit the stage again, making off-color jokes to the delight of every audience member, and within minutes introduced Deborah Harry. The crowd rose to their feet. In tight, black capris, a belted white shirt and white headband, Ms. Harry is every bit the sex ki

Britney Spears To Join The True Colors Tour
2007-06-28 12:22:00
SATURDAY JUNE 23, 2007 12:30 PM EDT By Lycia NaffNearly two months after her Southern California mini-tour in early May, Britney Spears is getting ready to hit the stage again. June 30 at L.A.'s Greek Theatre, she's due to join Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Dresden Dolls, The MisShapes with special guest Jeffree Star and host Margaret Cho live onstage for the "True Colors " concert tour, Spears's choreographer, Misha Gabriel, tells PEOPLE. Friday at the Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood, the pop star held final callbacks to find the two male backup dancers she'll add to her act. Only snag, she never showed up. The plan had been for Spears to select two guys (out of 21) to join her in the choreographic number she'll perform at the Greek. Instead, however, she put her two longtime trusted female backup dancers – Criscilla Crossland and Lark – in charge of the process. The two videotaped all the aspirants, for Spears to observe

Junior Vasquez loves Cher, will pass on Cyndi Lauper

Junior Vasquez at last year's GLAAD Media Awards.Photo: Patrick McMullanIt's New York's 38th Gay Pride celebration this weekend, and even though the official dance is the one held on Pier 54 Sunday night, we thought we'd highlight a certain twelve-hour thump-a-thon occurring the night before. Why? Not only will it be one of the last big nights at that venerable gay mecca, the Roxy, before the structure is torn down next month, it'll also be presided over by perhaps the biggest D.J. in Gotham history, Junior Vasquez, 57, who just happens to be a big old queen. Tim Murphy talked with Vasquez about the merits of Cher over Cyndi Lauper , today's gay whippersnappers, and how you stay up all night when you're no longer on crystal meth. You've had a reputation for years as an impossible diva. Do you deserve it?I wasn't like that in my personal life. I'm very private and introverted. I like to stay home and decorate my house. I just bought a full-floor s

Fri Jun 22, 2007 at 03:09:31 PM Keep those rainbow flags waving high on Sunday and parade up to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for the True Colors Tour, benefiting the Human Rights Campaign. You’d think the gay community would be worn out after Saturday’s Pride Parade, but something tells us they’ll muster up the energy for host Margaret Cho and musical acts Cyndi Lauper (who started the tour to address gay rights in the U.S.), Debbie Harry, Erasure and The Dresden Dolls. Most are familiar with these acts but may be new to the MisShapes, the DJ/party promoter collective rocking the New York City high-fashion crowd. The trio will be spinning their mixes of tunes by Madonna and others between the main acts. -- Dusti Rhodes Raise your flag at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.Source: houstonpress.com

Cyndi Lauper's Prideful TourJune 21, 2007Cyndi Lauper tore the house down Tuesday night in Toronto as part of her True-Colors gay-rights concert tour. If you haven’t already heard, Cyndi has struck out on quite frankly the most awesome tour of the summer. The best part about it is the music is backed by a cause. Cyndi and her fellow artists are using their wonderful music to trumpet the cause of gay rights. The concert tour is raising money to support the Human Rights Campaign and also awareness of hate-crimes and hate-crime legislation. Addressing the crowd of Canadians during the Tuesday show, Cyndi praised them:“You can get married legally, you have insurance for your spouses,” she said. “I wish that Americans could be more like Canadians.”The gay happy concert bill also includes Debbie Harry, The Dresden Dolls, punk band The Clicks, comedian Margaret Cho and OUTzone fave Erasure. The Canadian web site Cbc.ca has the complete rundown on the Tor

HRC counts its 'True Colors' with music and a message
2007-06-28 12:12:00
HRC counts its 'True Colors ' with music and a messagePublished 06/21/2007 by Robert Sokol  Debbie Harry from Blondie.   When Gilbert Baker designed the original rainbow flag almost 30 years ago, it included eight swaths of true colors, each symbolizing an aspect of gay life as he saw it, from nature and spirit to serenity and healing. Due to limitations both financial and mechanical, we soon lost part of the message. Hot-pink sex became hard to find, and turquoise magic became the odd shade when an even presentation was needed. This summer, a rainbow of artists has spread magic and a message across the land with the True Colors tour. From a June 8 kick-off at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, the show has pinballed to dates in Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto and Atlanta. When it wraps up next week with a pair of Greeks (theatres, that is) in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, it will have played 16 cities and featured over a dozen iconic q

Cyndi Lauper brings the 'True Colors' tour to BerkeleyPublished 06/21/2007 by Gregg Shapiro  Recording artist Cyndi Lauper.    The GLBT community has a long history of unbridled devotion to its divas. From Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand to Diana Ross and Bette Midler, from Cher and Madonna to Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera, we love them, we really love them. As our divas go, Cyndi Lauper rises head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. Her mighty and emotive voice, her distinctive personal style, and her commitment to GLBT causes have placed her in a class of her own. Her True Colors tour cements her status as reigning goddess. With Lauper as both a performer and organizer, and GLBT organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign, Matthew Shepard Foundation, and PFLAG involved, True Colors promises to be the event of the Pride season, playing the Greek Theatre on June 29. Lauper says, "Listen, it's a party, it's going to be f

True Colors Shine
2007-06-28 12:07:00
By JASON MACNEIL, SPECIAL TO SUN MEDIA      She sang, she danced, she headlined. Oh and she bopped too. The first True Colors tour made its lone Canadian stop at the Molson Amphitheatre last night, with Cyndi Lauper closing the five-hour, six-act show. And while she'll be turning 54 a few days from now, the singer still wowed the crowd with a bevy of hits from her heyday as well as some new material. Opening with Hole In My Heart and wearing an umbrella-like hat with an orange wig underneath, Lauper and her five-piece cast energized the already energetic crowd by dancing barefoot, shaking hands with those on the floor and going deep into the audience. HUMAN RIGHTS The tour, created by Lauper, is in support of the Human Rights Campaign aimed at bringing awareness and advocating issues facing the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community. A portion of the show's proceeds also goes to Pride Toronto. After thanking the crowd for coming,

Lauper's exuberant gay-rights concert tour stops in Toronto

The sprightly singer told concertgoers she wished U.S. politicians would learn something from their Canadian counterparts."You can get married legally, you have insurance for your spouses," she said. "I wish that Americans could be more like Canadians."The energetic, five-hour concert saw Lauper as well as Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Dresden Dolls, The Gossip and local group The Cliks take the stage for an exuberant show that kept the audience on its feet and dancing throughout.Headliner Lauper offered up a slew of her best-known hits from the 1980s, including Time After Time, She Bop, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and, of course, the show's namesake True Colors.Harry, who avoided her best known Blondie songs, received a less-enthusiastic reception, but British dance music favourites Erasure delivered a strong set bolstered by new material and old hits, including Respect and Chains of Love. All the performers also assembled onstage to sing the ABBA hit Take a Chance o

Gay icons rock Berkeley for a cause in post-Pride 'True Colors ...
2007-07-02 04:10:00
Pity the word "empowerment," so abused that it's hard to remember it can be as much a call to action as a self-help bromide. On Friday, Cyndi Lauper issued just such a call when she reminded a packed crowd at Berkeley 's Greek Theatre that they were partying for a purpose: passage of the Matthew Shepard Act, a bill that would add homophobic-based crimes to existing federal hate crimes laws. "I hope this night will make you feel empowered," she called over a wave of cheers, "because a hate crime bill that don't include everyone is un-American." Benefiting the Human Rights Campaign and the Matthew Shepard Foundation, the True Colors tour was, as its wisecracking emcee, Margaret Cho, dubbed it, "the world's first all-gay-icon music festival." The five-hour extravaganza combined old-school heroes with the younger bands they inspired, from Lauper, Deborah Harry and Erasure to the Dresden Dolls and the Toronto band the Cliks. Rosie O'

Cyndi and Rosie (but no Britney) at Human Rights Campaign's 'True Colors' concert
2007-07-01 13:55:00
By Steve Hochman, Special to The TimesIn covering the multi-act "True Colors " concert at the Greek Theatre on Saturday, it's tempting to emulate the cable newswoman who last week refused to lead a telecast with "that story" (cough-Paris-cough). Here too, more substantive matters — the Human Rights Campaign 's anti-gay-bashing efforts, which the tour is promoting — could have been overshadowed by the guest appearance of a tabloid star.Fortunately, the guest who showed up was Rosie O'Donnell, a longtime gay rights activist who was invited along by organizer-headliner Cyndi Lauper. How different it would have been if the rumors of a "surprise" performance by Britney Spears had proved true. But she wasn't missed. Lauper remains a force of nature for her singing and stage talents. With her spiky hair dyed lavender, she hammed it up with "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" but also showed oft-overlooked depth and breadth. Her versi

Music, message gel nicely at True Colors Tour
2007-06-30 10:19:00
These girls don’t just want to have fun. They also want such things as equal rights and benefits in the workplace, increased public support on key issues and changes made to some current laws. That’s why these women _ including singers Cyndi Lauper and Debbie Harry and comedians Rosie O’Donnell and Margaret Cho _ went out on the road as part of the first annual True Colors Tour. Of course, it’s not just women who are interested in these issues. Many men are concerned as well _ and the Y chromosomes were represented, though to a lesser extent than the X’s, on this tour.True Colors _ which takes its name from one of tour organizer Lauper’s best-known songs _ came to the U.C. Greek Theatre in Berkeley on Friday night (June 29). It turned out to be a winning affair, one that delighted with comedy and song as well as further served to unite the Bay Area’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.A portion of the proceeds from each ticket so

Cyndis True Colors Shine On
2007-06-30 04:23:00
06.29.07By Tracy E. GilchristWhen a sprightly, brightly hued–haired chanteuse smashed on to the pop music scene in 1984, who would have predicted that 23 years later she would become a timeless and revered artist and activist. And now Cyndi Lauper, who taught the world to “She-Bop,” has assembled a bevy of contemporary and vintage ’80s acts to help her celebrate gay pride with her True Colors tour, named for the her 1986 life-affirming anthem “True Colors.” This summer Cyndi’s hitting a road less traveled with gay and gay-friendly luminaries Erasure, Deborah Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Margaret Cho, The Dresden Dolls, The Gossip and The Misshapes. And if that weren’t enough, lesbian pioneers the Indigo Girls and Rosie O’Donnell, among other special guests, are slated to join the tour in various cities. “We’re gonna have a great time,” Lauper says in her infectious Brooklyn accent. “It’s my birthday. True Colors Tour has good intentions, mixed results
2007-06-30 03:57:00
Friday, June 29, 2007Review: Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Tour, wrapping up Saturday at the Greek Theatre, features some standout artists.By CHRIS NIXONSpecial to the RegisterGone are the shocks of red and blue hair. Gone are the goofy videos with Captain Lou Albano. Gone are the squeaky voice and quirky persona. Who knew 20 years ago when Cyndi Lauper was a marginal and slightly annoying pop star that she'd grow into an activist in her middle age? Since its release in 1986, Lauper's ballad "True Colors" has been embraced as an anthem by the gay community and she's become a bit of an icon in the process. Now the 54-year-old mom from Queens, New York is working to raise public awareness about the issues facing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. She's even built a 15-city tour around it. It's called the True Colors Tour 2007. One dollar of every ticket sold will benefit the work of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest organiza

Cyndi & the tour are mentioned in this new interview with Andy Bell of Erasure.-JArticle source: http://www.campkc.com---I’m in a very happy place right now’ - Interview with Vince Clarke of Erasure June 30, 2007 by Danny Bright The ever-popular British pop group Erasure will be performing July 29 at the Uptown Theater, and it promises to be a night no one will soon forget. This concert comes on the heels of the group’s new album, Light at the End of the World, which is quickly climbing Billboard’s dance music charts.  With Andy Bell resting his voice for their tour, I had the rare opportunity to speak with Vince Clarke, the mastermind behind Erasure’s electropop sound. Both Bell and Clarke were in Maine in the fall, creating their newest, most alive and dance-filled album in years. All of it was done on computer — no big studios this time around.  So, if you haven’t purchased tickets for one if this year’s hottest concerts,
