God Is Love 2007-06-16 01:32:00 The work of creating is an act of love. The God who flung from His fingertips this universe filled with galaxies and stars, penguins and puffins, gulls and gannets, peaches and pears, and a world full of children made in His own image, is the God who loves with magnificent monotony.-- Brennan Manning
Travelling (And A Few Other Things) 2007-06-18 10:39:00 I will be travelling from tomorrow onwards till Saturday i.e. June 19th to 23rd, and regret that this blog will not be updated until I get back. Where am I going this time... good question, but it's not to a 10/40 window country. I'll be heading across the causeway to Malaysia for a camp in a 5-star resort. Look out for some pictures when I get back. And now for the Other Things. God's Creation 2007-06-25 08:50:00 There were a few quotes I added recently which referred to God's creation, for example, He Sends It, God Is Love, Our Maker. One of the reasons I travel, especially to remote places, is to see His creation at its best. I live in a big city. The whole of Singapore is a big city; a concrete jungle of apartment blocks, offices and skyscrapers. Urghhhhh! Of course we planted lots of trees and greenery too, but they're not tall enough to hide the skyscrapers. And so, when I take a break to travel, the last thing I want to see is another man-made skyscraper.I once climbed a mountain in the Philippines and when we reached the top... wah, what an awesome view! Oops, my pastor is reminding me... it wasn't a mountain, it was only a little hill, but still, there was not a man-made building to be seen for miles around! Of course the downside of going to these places are the snakes, bugs and mosquitoes which I am not terribly fond of, but then, we have to remind ourselves that God created these c Read more:Creation
Church Camp, More About Me And More Ramblings 2007-06-30 05:59:00 I made a wee little mistake last week. I went for a four-day holiday overseas without a laptop. Thought I could resume my writing and update the blog after the holiday. Hah! A mountain of files and stuff was waiting when I arrived at the office on Monday. Oh boy! And what's more, I was handed additional assignments before I knew what's what. The wonderful thing is, I'm going on another holiday, a much longer one, very soon. This time, I'm bringing technology with me. OK, May did say that we'll be in some ulu (meaning: remote, primitive) places, but I believe that's only for the second week according to the itinerary. We'll be in the big capital city for the first few days, and then to a second-tier city during the final week, and surely I can plug in and get some stories out, otherwise nothing’s going to be shared at the end of the trip until probably the end of the year! If a four-day break = one mountain of work waiting, can you imagine how many Mount Everests will be built i Read more:Church
The Persecuted Church Part 3 2007-07-05 09:55:00 At the church camp two weeks ago, I was ambling along after dinner towards the conference room, feeling very full, and as I passed the swimming pool, I decided to take a few pics. And then I spotted this handsome couple sitting by the pool, and quickly snapped a foto of them. They both looked up, smiled, the guy said oops! but it was too late, shot taken! But... I'm not going to post it online. This is a very special couple, and before long, they'll be heading for this 10/40 country to begin a new life there, to serve the King of kings.I still remembered the testimony they gave in the evening; the husband said they'd never even been there before, they don't know what to expect, where they'll live, what they'll do etc. The one thing he knew was that the Lord has already been there, and He knows all things, and so they're just going to go, and trust that He will show them step by step. And then the wife shared that she did not think they were missionaries, or deserve to be identifi Read more:Persecuted

Somewhere Beyond The Blue 2007-07-08 09:41:00 - an extract from Pastor Jason's sermon The Lord's PrayerAbout 11, 12 years ago, I was with our youth group on a mission trip. By the way, mission trips are blessings and it's our prayer that in our church, we will have many mission trips so that many more of you will come along and see the work of God in foreign lands, and see how God is blessing His people and blessing His work. Mission trips changed my life. I went to several, and all of them have been spiritual milestones for me.I remembered one of the very first I went was to the Philippines, to Bukidnon, in Northern Mindanao... and there in our youth group we would do the adventurous type... we did a lot of trekking and walking and hiking. It was an exciting time but what was most exciting for me was that I met up with the mountain churches pastors. They were pastors which did not have very much. They were very poor physicially, and they often have no idea whether they would have food on the table the very next day. They simply Read more:Somewhere
Getting Around: Jeepney Adventures In The Philippines Part 2 2007-07-07 02:35:00 On a recent visit to the Philippines
, we made a day trip to Guimaras island to survey our Workers Camp site. After a hazadous journey across the high seas, a jeepney picked us up from the pier for the half-hour drive to the camp site. And then, all of a sudden, in the middle of nowhere about ten minutes into the road journey, the jeepney stopped.Oh-oh, what happened? Was it an ambush? Did we hit something or somebody? Did we get stuck in the mud... but it was a fine, hot day and there was no mud. We couldn't understand what the grinning driver was saying for a moment, but a minute later, we learned the truth of the matter. The jeepney had run out of gas. What?? Didn't you fill 'er up before you left the pier with your passengers? We learned next that there was no petrol gauge on the dashboard; it was impossible for anyone to know how much gas this jeepney had at any one time. What??? Can you imagine driving a car, or any vehicle, without knowing how much gas was in the tank? Well, it Read more:Adventures
The Wonder Of It All 2007-07-12 11:03:00 Here it is, one of the new Seven Wonders of the world! Were you one of the 100 million people who voted? Or, like me, did you go... ho hum, so what. Less than a week from now, I am going to be seeing one of 'em. Yes, I'll be right at the bottom of the Great Wall, and how I'm going to get up to the top... eh... that's the big question which I have no answer for right now. Will let you know next week, ok?The picture you see here is taken from a copyright-free source. While surfing during lunchtime, I came across this recent post from a like-minded blogger which I have to agree whole-heartedly with. The song which she posted is one of our favourites, and it's so true... isn't it?O, the wonder of it all!The wonder of it all!Just to think that God loves me...and YOU!
The Lord's Prayer 2007-07-11 11:03:00 Here's the link to Pastor Jason's MP3 sermon The Lord's Prayer

Mobile blog 18th 2007-07-18 04:17:00 Hey, no need to be too fervent in your interceding; it was blazing hot at the Temple of Heaven & Uncle Robert said I looked like a cooked lobster! We started the morning with fellowship & knee work in PC's room; always good to hear the work He is doing. Then our friends went shopping, Viv & I walked to the Forbidden City but it was way too crowded, long queues for tickets! We had our Chinese lunch while our friends had KFC, then we joined them at two for the Temple of Heaven tour. Thurs - we will be out by 8am for the Great Wall. Already inquired that there is a Starbucks like place at the bottom of the wall. Guess thats where I'll be while the others tackle the wall. If Viv survive the climb, we'll go looking for hutong to explore after that. Read more:Mobile
Mobile blog 17th 2007-07-17 18:41:00 Thks the Lord for blessings & for your prayers: good sleep on board plane despite it being a full flight, good weather in Beijing (BJ) & the rest of group arrived safely as well. Planned to go shopping after lunch but in the cab Viv & I sudden change of mind & diverted the cab to the new Beijing opera house, the egg shaped building. Took lots of pics but ahem, I think our durian is more impressive! Day ended with Pizza Hut dinner with American friends. Pray for Wed visit to Temple of Heaven; weather report says rain. Mobile Blog 16th 2007-07-17 04:46:00 My luggage is exactly 20kg. No wonder my arms are falling off even with the wheels, but thank God the cab driver helped me get it in and out of the boot (Most dont bother to get out of their seats even once). I have aged a lot since my last trip. No, not because of my inability to carry 20kg. At the immigration counter at Changi the fellow scratched his head at my passport photo for a while, then asked me for my IC, then compared photo and name, then he told me to go change pp pic b4 1st Sep for free. Huh? 1st time i was ever told such a thing, & my pp is still valid for 3 more years! Deeply offended already, but still have to agree & smile, else i might be locked up somewhere and miss the flight. I wonder if the same thing will happen at the other side. Read more:Mobile
Mobile blog 20th & 21st 2007-07-21 03:41:00 If u see Annie pls give her a hug for me? Just to let u know, dear, we're not having much fun without u. Am sending this while in the bus heading back after a long day touring. Highlight on Fri was not the flight to Baotou, the Mongolian lunch & dinner of too much food esp lamb or the deer park stroll. 4 nations: SG, PH, CN & USA gathered for SF in a hotel room around the same time as most of u did, but it was still bright & early even at 830pm. 21st - hopped on tour bus & taken to a real desert for tourists to play in. Took hazardous cable car ride & someone sabo me bought me ticket for camel ride. What!! No choice but to get on it for half hr suffering in the scorching desert! Another activity & I didnt try but Uncle R did: sliding 60ft down a sand dune... Read more:Mobile

Mobile blog 19th 2007-07-19 08:03:00 Such suffering. Sitting at steamboat dinner with our American friends, watching them wielding chopsticks... Today we headed out early for the Great Wall. In the bus PC & Uncle Robert shared testimony. Once we reached the Wall most in the group were ready to go! Uncle R & I, the smart ones, sat in the coffee shop. Group was back by 1130am. Influenced by my roommate, Viv & I took a hutong tour which included riding rickshaw, climbing drum tower. Pr Requests: 20th Annie & Ranie fly in to join us. We'll leave for Baotou City in Inner Mongolia1-hr flight is 11am & more walking, touring & fellowship to follow. We've got a great group. Read more:Mobile

Mobile blog 25th 2007-07-24 22:21:00 Once again I m sending this while in the bus; we have been on the road for 4hr & will continue for 8 more hours to our destination - the summer camp! We are also midway in our tour thru China & PTL for what He has shown us so far, for health, for provisions. Tue blessings: we checked into yurt hotel & then trekked up a mountain. I would not have climbed but PC said we going to have a pr meeting at the peak & that was incentive enough! Lunch was in the tiny town, then we toured the grasslands & more trekking. Day ended with a nite in the yurt, is a traditional Mongolian tent. Rather like an igloo. Very cold, & a very basic bathroom. Quite an experience. Next few days pr requests: meeting the new teachers, camp participants, the Lims, the local leaders. Read more:Mobile
