First impressions of the Les Paul wireless Guitar Hero controller 2007-06-05 02:16:07 IGN recently made the trip to go see and toy around with the first prototype. It isn’t functional yet, but we can already see that it’s a step above the current Xbox 360 controller
.
First
of all, the wireless Xbox 360 controller will work with Guitar
Hero II. The wired controller, if you have one already, will work with Guitar Hero
III.Don’t worry about being forced to double dip.
The new Les Paul shape and controller layout will be largely the same for the PS3 release, though we only got to see the 360 version. Whether it will be sold as part of a bundle with Guitar Hero III, separately, or both is still to be determined. The pricing and release date, too, have not yet been nailed down. We do have some details to share that are solid.
The buttons have been changed from what we saw on the 360 controller to closer match the original PS2 layout. The round “knob” buttons for the start and back/select buttons are back so that people who prefer to use the back
We need episodic video games that rival ABC’s Lost 2007-06-02 08:55:05
What will it take for episodic video
games to catch on? I think the success ABC has experienced with Lost and it’s 60-70 episodes over the past 3 seasons (currently Lost is ranked 2 of 16,626 over at tv.com) is no doubt related to the shows content. I think that when episodic video games can deliver a smart well told story with intense gameplay set in an a realistic environment, this type of game will be accepted into our gaming culture.
This latest generation of gaming devices currently have the capability of content delivery that is much faster and more economical than the current $49.99-$59.99 Ghost Recon, Madden & Miyamoto model.
Massive multiplayer games while immersive, seem more about leveling up your character and traveling a large game world. In contrast episodic video games will deliver 100+ hours of intense gameplay, spanning 20+ episodes over the course of ayear. The game world, filled with interesting characters you actually care about, a well written s Read more:rival
Bungie says graphical improvements coming to Halo 3 this September 2007-06-01 17:26:48
Bungie’s Frank O’Connor spoke with NextGeneration about the public’s reception to the beta and any changes in the game in the months between now and launch on September
25.
He said, “Well to be honest, we’ve seen them [the graphics] praised too. Multiplayer is by necessity a more sterile iteration of our graphical style and will always be tuned for performance and elegance rather than jamming the screen full of pixels. We think that the final aesthetic look of our game will be judged at launch in September and in part based on the more intense single player spaces. We’re also focused on maintaining the Halo character and atmosphere in our visual design – we’re competing with ourselves, and not simply trying to match the aesthetic of other games. We think that folks will be happy with Halo 3’s graphical polish come September.”
He added that there would be some changes in the months ahead and that the game has not been seen in its complete form, “We have a long

Top 10 sequel-less games 2007-05-27 22:57:45 While store shelves may be glutted with Maddens, Tony Hawks, and Calls of Duty, there are many games that never got a Part 2.
Games.net recently featured a list of the top 49 sequel
-less games. Listed below are the top 10 from their list.
10- Freelancer (PC)
As a freelance pilot, the player takes on what should be a simple escort mission in return for a second-hand ship and minimal cash, but things quickly escalate out of control. Yet the plot, while intricate and entertaining, isn’t what brought people to Freelancer, let alone kept them playing for hours on end. This space simulation offers the massive, free-form universe that so many space simulation enthusiasts craved, while still walking that delicate tightrope between arcade action and simulation specifics.
Finishing the plot of Freelancer leaves players far from having explored the game’s universe. The plot missions are some of the game’s high points, but only cover a fraction of the universe and still allow

John Carmack debuts id Tech 5 engine 2007-06-13 13:10:22
During the WWDC 07 show in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced id software’s John Carmack
to the audience, watch the video-on-demand (VOD) in QuickTime and MPEG-4 by visiting via Apple.
At the 10:13 mark, the video shows the first look at the engine in the works at id Software, the intriguing visuals are accompanied by the following:
“So the last couple of years at id we’ve been working in secrecy on next-gen tech and a game for it… this is the first time we’re showing anything we’ve done on it publicly.” id Tech 5™… “What we’ve got here is the entire world with unique textures, 20GB of textures covering this track. They can go in and look at the world and, say, change the color of the mountaintop, or carve their name into the rock. They can change as much as they want on surfaces with no impact on the game.”

Underneath the helmet: Halo 3 Spartan exposed 2007-06-12 15:21:35
Ok, so despite other sites implying this to be Master Chief, the video (and picture above) were made playing the Halo 3 multiplayer beta. Since the Master Chief character is only playable during single player campaign the face we see underneath the helmet is most likely Spartan
. The video clocks in at a long 3 minutes 49 seconds, kind of long since you will see everything during the first minute.

Halo coming soon to Nintendo DS? 2007-06-16 17:00:01 Reports that a Halo title has been developed for Nintendo
’s DS have surfaced. This surprising news comes from IGN’s Matt Casamassina when recently said this,
“It’s a real game, I played it a little while ago,” said Casamassina on the Wii-k in review podcast. “A lot of people just don’t believe that but we’re going to lay down some ownage next week or soon afterward by showing you guys that it is a real game. So, you guys are about to be owned, all you naysayers.”
If you would like to hear this for yourself you can find Casamassina’s comment made 30 minutes into the podcast. IGN sounds very intent that Halo for the DS is, or at least was, a real playable game in the vain of Metroid Prime Hunters with sub Xbox visuals.
It is interesting to note Microsoft owned developer Rare released Diddy Kong Racing DS for the Nintendo DS in February, 2007 - so this news may not be as far fetched as it may seem. Keep an eye on IGN’s DS page this coming week.

The Xbox 360 Games of Summer 2007 2007-06-24 16:11:00 IGN360 recently published an article featuring their picks of top games scheduled for release this summer (June 21-September 21) for the Xbox
360. The following collection of 16 titles should keep any gamer busy for the next few months - let the games begin!
BioShock
Publisher: 2K Games
Developer: Irrational Games
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Release Date: August 21
IGN says: What to say, what to say? Irrational’s first-person shooter / adventure game / RPG / “insert genre here” has, after two hands-on sessions, lived up to our expectations. Across any internet and print video game publications, few things negative have been said so far, and for good reason; it’s a lot of fun. It blends an intelligent plot with immersive visuals and sounds, offers a number of interesting gameplay options, and, most importantly, understands that player choice is of chief importance. We’ve already written way too much about this game and spoiled bits you probably would have Read more:Summer
Sony PSP to now take full advantage of CPU clock speed 2007-06-22 14:31:47
Shacknews posted this information today regarding Sony
increasing the PSP CPU clock speed:
A Sony Computer Entertainment representative has confirmed to Shacknews that developers can now take full advantage of the PSP’s CPU following the late May release of the system’s version 3.50 firmware. Rumors of the unlocking were initially reported by fansite PSP Updates via an unnamed source.
Previously, developers were only able to run the CPU at 266MHz rather than its full potential clock speed of 333MHz, though most games ran at only 222MHz. High Impact Games’ Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, released in February, is said to run at 266MHz. Hackers long ago discovered methods to run the PSP’s CPU at full speed, the benefits of which include a smoother framerate for certain games, at the cost of reduced battery life. There is no word yet if this update enables previous PSP releases to run at 333MHz, something hacked PSP firmware has enabled in the past.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat coming this November to DS 2007-06-28 11:30:50
Midway is set to release Ultimate
Mortal Kombat
for the Nintendo DS this November
. The game will offer the original fighting and fatalities of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (currently available on Xbox Live Arcade) along with the block-dropping Puzzle Kombat mode, as seen in Mortal Kombat: Deception. From the video and screenshots this version looks very good and it’s going to have Wi-Fi multiplayer so you will be able to play against others online - sounds good, now if Nintendo had a better way to connect with your friends… I really hate their damn friend code system.

NCAA Football 08 top 25 2007-07-09 03:06:56 With just weeks to go before the season kicks off, here is a look at the teams EA Sports rates as the best in the nation. Agree or disagree (where the hell is Oregon or Oregon State!?!) the following are the Top 25 teams in EA Sports’ NCAA Football
08.
#25 Boston College Eagles (10-3)
Senior quarterback Matt Ryan battled ankle and foot problems last season, yet still managed to throw for nearly 3,000 yards and 15 touchdowns. The first half of the schedule is fairly friendly, with only one road game (against Georgia Tech). Unfortunately, it could mean a rough second half for Boston College, with difficult road games against the likes of Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and Clemson.
#24 Texas A&M Aggies (9-4)
Heartbreaking late-season losses to Nebraska and Oklahoma (both by one point), the Aggies will face the Cornhuskers and Sooners on the road (along with making the trip to Miami to face the Hurricanes), all before winding up the season against arch-rival Texas in College Statio
Super Mario Galaxy: E3 Trailer 2007-07-12 07:27:28 Nintendo Wii Fanboy had these details to share SuperMarioGalaxy
:
The game is incredibly charming and creative, and filled with life that make it a clear killer app for the console.
Firstly, the game looks absolutely stunning. Not only does it run in 480p and in widescreen, the game features some beautiful colors, fantastic texture work, and some stellar special effects. The Mario character model is easily the best we’ve seen in any Nintendo game so far: it’s not hard to think that the in-game cut-scenes are pre-rendered at times. Galaxy, at the very least, shows that the Wii is a capable piece of hardware, so long as developers take time and care with it.
and they also mentioned this about multiplayer mode:
We also got to try the “multiplayer” mode, in which the second controller can act as another pointer to help Mario: it can stun enemies, and Mario as well. A player that refuses to play well with others will want to point at Mario, stopping him in his track Read more:Trailer
