1 week 'til V-Day! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Nothing compares to a good girlfriend. They help you pass hour upon hour dwelling on the most random of things, and they have this way of building you up and making you feel fantastic, without buying into your own delusions.Today's gift goes to my dear friend Jen, who is receiving a package of panties. Why panties, you ask? Well, last year, Jen and I hosted the most fabulous panty party of all time. A panty party, for those of you who aren't in the know, involves an exchange of that oh-so-delicate undergarment that we love to own and can't buy enough of. We invited a group of girls to celebrate at Barton Creek in Austin, and while it was an unforgettable weekend, we never actually exchanged any panties. So this year, while we didn't have time to plan to event itself, I did have time to pick out some fabulous panties from Victoria's Secret for the lovely Jen Holmes.Over the next several days, I'll be sharing some more ideas for Valentine's Day, as it's quickly approaching

Conversation Heart Trivia 1970-01-01 00:59:59 -Conversation
hearts were originally called "motto hearts"- The process dates back to the late 1800s, when printed sayings on colored paper were placed in "cockles," small crisp candies formed in the shape of a scalloped shell- Before World War I, conversation hearts were made in various shapes such as postcards, watches, baseballs or horseshoes, and the hearts were embossed with curlicues- The original hearts had room for much longer sayings, enabling would-be lovers to send messages such as "Please send a lock of your hair by return mail," or "How long shall I have to wait? Pray be considerate"- Since the hearts inception, the recipe has remained basically unchanged: 90% sugar, a dash of corn syrup, gelatin, gums, artificial colors and flavorings.- NECCO, the original producer of conversation hearts, produces approximately eight billion candies throughout the year- The entire production - more than 100,000 pounds a day - sells out in just six weeks- Since the turn of Read more:Heart

Kitchen Redecorating 1970-01-01 00:59:59 It's raining in Houston (again), and my friend Nora finished redecorating her kitchen today. Of course I just had to send something to outfit those new glass cabinets, and these glass pints by Emiko Oki are perfect to fit with her modern twist on a classic kitchen. Disguised to look like traditional pints, the glass creations are actually a wine glass, an ashtray, and a vase. Read more:Kitchen

Denyse Schmidt Quilts 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I searched for months for the right comforter, so when I discovered Denyse Schmidt
quilts I just had to share. What a fabulous gift they would make for a new homeowner looking to decorate a bedroom. Imagine receiving one of these comforters, along with a handwritten note on the designer's very own stationery... Read more:Quilts
going (wal)nuts. 2008-03-05 06:26:00 I just had the most delicious walnut blondie. Here's a little more walnut inspiration:This tiny doll in a walnut shell was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's Thumbelina.Tiny walnut pincushions.More walnut pincushions. And finally, some gorgeous goldstone walnut shaped beads.
Fun Felt Creations 2008-03-04 21:15:00 Look at these adorable felt creations by Julie Persons. Check out her store, Creation Nation, here. I love the little nest with eggs for Easter!
A little something that I am making a mad dash to buy... 2008-02-26 20:56:00 I saw this glass box on Decor8 and just have to have it. I love the idea of displaying old letters on a coffee table. I was just cleaning out my craft room closet the other day and started going through a box of old letters I have hidden away down there. At last, those notes (some heartfelt, some filled with sarcasm, others with touches of teen angst and he said/she said gossip) can have the special spot they have so longed deserved. Read more:little

I wish... 2008-02-26 20:43:00 ...I had a journal that looked as pretty as this one. I suppose the next best thing is to visit the work of the talented Anne Steinlein as she documents her travels.

Azza Fahmy Jewelry 2008-02-24 23:19:00 I was cleaning out some papers tonight and came across the receipt from my purchase at Azza Fahmy in Dubai. The Egyptian jeweler who is the namesake of the store studied in London before returning to her home in Cairo, where she is inspired by both historic and modern aesthetics. Her latest collection is engraved with the words of poets and philosophers, from which I bought a simpler gold and silver piece. Read more:Jewelry
New and Improved 2008-02-21 19:15:00 I am excited to announce to official launch of the new and improved C. Marie Signatures website! After brushing up on a little HTML coding, it is beautiful and complete, and I can't wait to hear all of your thoughts.
You Are Beautiful 2008-02-20 22:27:00 Apparently I am the last to know, but the You Are Beautiful
collaborative project is a creative way to perk up the public. The premise is completely altruistic - it's just a group of people trying to make the rest of us feel good. Personally, I feel beautiful just thinking about it.
Happy (belated) Valentine's Day! 2008-02-15 14:31:00 My friend Kristen is the cutest, craftiest person in the whole wide world. We worked together at JPMorgan, and spent many sleepless nights wondering why we were slaving over Excel spreadsheets when we could be cutting and pasting, or baking muffins, or drinking Starbucks coffee. The super talented Kristen is now in Boston, where she paints (check out her website!) and does lots of other amazing things. I opened my door yesterday to find this fantastic little package sitting on my welcome mat from her. My friends really are the best...and the most talented...and really creative...I just love them. More readings 2008-02-11 00:28:00 Sorry for the unexplained absence! I have been busy on the gift show circuit, and am also in the process of moving offices (pictures to be posted shortly!). My trip was enhanced by the lovely artwork of Maira Kalman, who many of you may recognize as she is the illustrator of Elements of Style, in The Principles of Uncertainty. What a great read, with its thought provoking whimsy.
Somewhere in San Francisco 2008-01-29 01:39:00 I am currently in San Francisco
for the first time in my life, and unfortunately all I've been able to see is my hotel (the Hyatt Regency - it's quite lovely) and the Moscone Convention Center, where I am exhibiting at the San Francisco
Gift Fair. This is show number two in my winter tour with C. Marie Signatures, and it has been a fabulous experience. Many thanks to Cat Seto for her lovely post on C. Marie - it was such a pleasure to meet such a talented woman! What am I loving today? The World Without Us by Alan Weisman. It's been such a great read on this trip, and a unique look at the positive and negative effects we humans have on the world. Read more:Somewhere
Not just for kids 2008-01-23 01:48:00 These mobiles are all grown up, and I'm dying to get one for my house. Made of finely etched stainless steel, they would look fabulous in front of a window or as a subtle piece of hanging art.
Dallas Gift Market 2008-01-22 23:35:00 I have just returned from Dallas
, where I attended the Dallas Gift Market
. It was a whirlwind experience as always, and I had the pleasure of picking up some great new accounts for the C. Marie Signatures line. I love these shows because it's a great way to catch up with all of the wonderful people that carry my line, and also because it's a reminder of all of the creative minds out there. To think that so many different products are being created by people just like me...it's really unbelievable. It was so unbelievably cold there, and considering that when I left Houston the temperature was around 75 degrees, I packed all wrong - especially for Thursday when it SNOWED. In TEXAS. I had forgotten what a southern girl I am. It was an exhausting week, but I have two days to rest before
Beautiful cakes... 2008-01-18 06:25:00 ...by Jin Patisserie. I recently attended an event with the desserts catered by the fabulous Jin Patisserie, and these tasty treats are as beautiful in person as they are in these photos. These would be the perfect addition to a super girly tea party. Read more:Beautiful
Gifts for the politically obsessed 2008-01-16 04:29:00 I admit it: I can't stop watching CNN. I am completely obsessed
with Obama, Hillary, McCain, and the rest of the gang. I wake up to Meet the Press and fall asleep to Larry King, all the while trying to figure out who I believe and who I don't. For the record, I fall into the "Hillary faked the crying" group, but I do think the press has been rather hard on her, so if she did indeed genuinely cry, then I completely understand why. Here are a couple of fun gifts to give in the spirit of politics:1. Vote cards, from Set. $8, box of 25.2. Elephant pendant from Fuzz, AU$46.3. Peace, love, & revolution pendant from Fuzz, AU$65.3. Bosse brass figurines at Design Within Reach, $70 each.4. Glass cufflinks, etsy.com, $29.50. Read more:Gifts

Creepy, but kinda cool 2008-01-14 18:27:00 I haven't had this sort of reaction to jewelry in a long time. Maybe ever, actually. Polly van der Glas takes the concept of recycling to a whole new, somewhat disturbing, level. Melbourne-based van der Glas sources her materials from friends and family who have given, literally, of themselves - as in donated body parts (hair, teeth, and other replaceable bits) - to create a jewelry line that has heads turning and mouths gaping. Email Polly at pollypollypollypolly@hotmail.com for your very own piece of a total stranger. [via Coolhunting]
Today's dream house... 2008-01-14 08:47:00 I have a thing for beautiful homes. I like to imagine the lives of the people that live inside of them - the conversations at their dinner table ("Mum, please pass the foie gras"), the books on their coffee tables ("Jewels of Imperialist Russia"), and the guests they entertain (crazy Aunt Ida from Beverly Hills). Of course I couldn't help myself when I saw these pictures of the Whittier Drive residence at Burnham Design... Read more:Today
Elephant in a birdcage 2008-01-13 06:38:00 I love these creations by Halligan Norris. The whimsy and surrealism are subtle, like a little secret that keeps you smiling all day long. Here's a pic of the artist herself:
Felt and wood vases 2008-01-12 10:53:00 Beautiful vases created by Joshua Daniel Stone, a Boston based designer who I discovered via Danielle:
Why I love Houston... 2008-01-11 06:22:00 Houston gets a bad rap, when in reality it deserves a whole lot more love. People imagine a bunch of cowboys and rednecks, but the truth is, as the 4th largest city in the US, we are full of culture and creative genius. We are second only to New York for theater seats per capita, we are home to culinary geniuses like Mark Cox and Bryan Caswell, and we host one of my favorite annual events, the Art Car Parade. Check out some photos of these cars that locals have created: Read more:Houston
Metallic seating 2008-01-10 00:08:00 I don't often lament the fact that I am not rolling in moolah, but one look at Bagnaresi's Tokyo Collection and I started scrounging through my cushions in search of loose change. I love they way they utilize opposing textures and combine flash with class. Read more:Metallic
Gandelman glass 2008-01-09 00:10:00 I so admire people who can fully commit to one thing. I myself am a dabbler, the opposite extreme, which makes me respect people like Roger Gandelman all that much more. Gandelman works solely on handblown glass perfume bottles, but he makes the most beautiful ones I've ever seen.
Spoonfuls of fun 2008-01-08 05:44:00 Carolyn Alexander's beautiful, yet quirky, silverware family portraits would be the perfect solution to my bare kitchen walls.(Thanks, Will!)
Gazon ring by Raynaud 2008-01-07 00:19:00 I love, love, LOVE this ring by Raynaud. I loved it when I first saw it (thank you, Chic City Rats!), but I loved it even more when I visited the website, with its pictures of tiny little men working on the ring. Priceless.
