Trading Waves.
2007-06-26 10:22:00
A while ago I wrote that I discovered a new trading instrument called waves. These are intriguing little instruments with huge leverage opportunities and as I understand them they are options like instruments that move according to futures on a index but with their “option strike price” actually being the price of the underlying instrument. Or in this case the index. Here I will discuss the waves traded on the JSE top 40 index. I made my first little experimentation with waves, my first trade being “profitable” but due to trading costs I just broke even. My second trade was disastrous, the wave broke (or reached the barrier) and expired worthless. What this means is that it the JSE top 40 reached the “option strike price” and expired worthless. So if all of the above sounds Greek to you, don’t worry, I am a bit lost myself. Hence I decided to do some research. It seems like waves are based on a theory by a dude called R.N. Elliot (hence also the name Elliot Waves ). B

warrant WAVEs! - A closer looo
2007-07-11 05:59:00
I did some research on WAVES and found two interesting articles which are listed below, These sertainly helped my understanding of them:Source: AXS.com.auThe latest warrant to be released on ASX's Warrant Market is a type of knock-out warrant called WAVEs or Warrant Alternative VEhicles. Knock-out warrants are similar to other warrants in that they give you exposure to share price or index level movements but have a barrier or knock-out level attached to them. If the price of the share or value of the index reaches this level then the warrant will immediately terminate. In this article we will look at these new warrants and consider the advantages and risks associated with trading them.Signs of increased activity in Australia's equity markets are providing many trading opportunities for investors. Whether it is to gain exposure for the short-term or the medium to long-term, investors look for financial instruments that will enable them to efficiently trade a rising or falling market a

Shipping costs hit the high tide mark
2007-07-20 06:03:00
High growth investment? looking for a Investment opportunity? This Stock is a good investmentFound this article this morning, This is good news for Grindrod (GND) :-)Source (Financial Times) The Baltic Dry index, the best gauge of dry bulk shipping conditions, last week rose to a record of 6,706 points, up 52 per cent on the year. Although the index has moved lower since, analysts believe freight costs will stay high. The index, which hit its previous all-time high last May, has risen almost fivefold since 2000. This increase threatens to add to already rising prices for agriculture, base metals and ore commodities.John Kemp, of Sempra Metals in London, says: "The world economy is growing faster than the availability of transport capacity."The world economy will expand this year at a rate of 4.9 per cent, according to the International Monetary Fund. If correct, it would be the first time since the 1970s that the world economy had grown by more than 4 per cent annually for five consecu
