How a Simple Kitchen Product Revitalized My Hair in 30 Minutes 2007-08-14 12:05:28 Some years ago I suddenly developed really greasy hair. I’m not sure how it happened but it coincided with me taking Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) from Superdrug. I frantically tried to wash the grease out but to no avail. It only seemed to make matters worse!
Would Designer Shampoo Work?
I couldn’t go around wearing a hat for the rest of my life so decided to take a trip into town and bought, at great expense, a detox shampoo from Aveda. I was convinced it would work, it’s full of natural ingredients and is considerably more expensive than shampoos from the supermarket after all….
As soon as I got home I rushed upstairs to the bathroom and applied the shampoo, eagerly awaiting the results. I’ve always had really nice hair, even if I do say so myself.
I couldn’t believe it… my hair still looked as if I’d dunked it into a deep fat fryer! Would I ever have beautiful hair again??

How Bicarbonate of Soda Saved Our Clothes from Being Trashed 2007-08-16 11:45:59 The other day I wrote about how bicarb of soda saved my hair today I’m going to write about how it has just saved our clothes.
For some reason a lot of our clothes became musty smelling. I don’t know how but no matter how much washing they got we couldn’t get rid of the smell. Honestly, we were on the brink of throwing them out, they just smelt so bad!
So we decided to put a good amount of it into the washing machine along with the normal detergent and I’m pleased to say that our clothes are very much wearable again

How to Improve Your Eyesight Naturally 2007-08-22 10:22:39 Our eyes are a very important part of us. They capture images and then send them to the brain. The brain then tells us what it is we are seeing. The eyes are constantly taking in information while they are open, working non-stop to help us view the world.
As we age, all the wear and tear on the eyes will start to weaken the muscles. This is what causes our vision to become blurred as you get older. However, age is not the only thing they will cause the eyes to have problems. The way they are treated daily will have the greatest impact on them.
Eye Problems
Normal ageing of the eyes is the reason that most of us will need glasses as we advance in age. Macular Degeneration is the number one cause of blindness in older adults. However, it doesn’t only affect the elderly. Macular Degeneration is also found in people who are smokers, have hypertension, or a family history of the disease.
Genetics, also, plays a big part in our vision. If Mum or Dad have less than perfect vision, chance Read more:Improve
An Introduction to Hand Reflexology 2007-08-21 10:19:14 Hands go through a lot during the day. They hold pens, type, scratch, pick, open stubborn jars and are often pricked, cut or smashed. It is not a surprise that by day’s end, the hands are sore and swollen.
Anyone who has had a massage knows that one of the areas that a therapist will work on is the hands. They will massage the fingers and palms until they are completely relaxed and ready to face another day of abuse.
Hand Reflexology
Reflexology, More specifically hand reflexology is a massage therapy that is concentrated on the hands. The idea being that the hands have points within them that directly correspond to areas of the body.
This technique has been around for thousands of years. It was finally named reflexology in the early twentieth century. There are two types of reflexology, hand and foot.

Simple Tips on How to Exercise and Still Have a Life 2007-08-23 11:06:44 In an ideal world we would all be setting our alarm clocks for 6:30am, drinking a smoothie made of 7 vegetables for breakfast before heading to the gym for a gruelling 3 hour workout.
Life just isn’t like that is it? No matter how good our intentions, life has a knack of throwing things at us. How is it possible to keep fit whilst dealing with all the hassles of every day life?
The Answer: Work Smart Not Hard
I was going to join my local gym the other week but decided against it as I wasn’t impressed with it. So instead I’ve been using a “little and often” technique which can be done from your own home without the need for any expensive equipment.
Basically you do a few exercises at regular intervals spread throughout the day. You might only have time to do 30 seconds at a time or you might be able to manage 5 minutes. It’s better to do a little bit often than nothing at all.

Funny Story about Rooibos Tea 2007-09-25 11:53:10 If you like Rooibos tea, you’ll love this true story I read in the Readers Digest magazine.
“A cousin of mine works in a speciality tea shop where the choice is so diverse it can leave customers confused. She’s quite used to people having no idea what type of Earl Grey they want, for instance, or requesting a calomine tea instead of camomile.
But when someone asked for “that detective tea - the Scottish one!” she was flummoxed.
Finally, she worked out what the customer was on about - and handed over a packet of Rooibos.”
Deborah Mercer, Theddlethorpe, Linconshire.
(For those who don’t understand what’s funny, Rebus is a charcater in a series of detective novels by Ian Rankin whilst Rooibos is a type of tea.)

What’s all the Fuss about Artificial Ingredients? 2007-09-21 11:56:21 I’ve been noticing an increase in the number of TV shows about artificial colourings, flavours and preservatives (aka E numbers) in children’s food. One show was about children going on a “War Time” diet whilst others simply were complaining about E numbers in general.
The one thing that strikes me about all of these shows is how parents want to blame everyone else for these foods except themselves. Often to demonstrate the problem they would show huge amounts of “kids” foods laid out on a table. There would be fairy cakes, sweets, jelly beans, cola and all sorts of other junk.
The parents would then be shown the foods and be told about all the bad stuff in it. I find it difficult to believe it when the parents turn round and say they didn’t realize the food is unhealthy.
C’mon, if something is fluorescent pink it’s hardly going to be healthy is it??!!
Of course it’s the supermarkets that get the blame for it all. I&rsq Read more:Artificial

Are Fruit Smoothies Healthy? 2007-09-20 09:10:25 I just love it when you think you’re doing your body good then some journalist decides to ruin it all for you. The other evening I was watching a show called The One Show which raised the question of fruit smoothies being good for you.
Acid Test
You may already know that when you drop a dirty coin into some cola that it’ll come out clean. Well, they decided to carry out the same test with cola, fruit smoothie, coffee and water. When the coins came out of the cola and smoothie they were clean however the coins that were placed in the coffee and water were still dirty.
What this proves is that cola and fruit smoothies are acidic which can, over time, cause erosion of tooth enamel. To prevent this happening you should drink through a straw so that the liquid goes straight down your throat. Alternatively you can eat cheese because when acid levels in the mouth were tested, the acidity dropped to normal.
Sugar
They said that in a glass of fruit smoothie there’s 8 tea Read more:Fruit

7 Health Benefits of Rooibos Tea (aka Red Bush) 2007-09-13 07:13:44 It’s funny how tea is a popular beverage the world over yet we all drink it in very different ways. In the UK people drink black tea with milk and sugar whilst in America and Japan it would seem green tea on its own is the tea of choice. The South Africans however have a taste for Rooibos (aka Red Bush) with milk and sugar.
I started drinking Red Bush a couple of months ago as there’s so many different types of tea to buy I wanted to be a little more adventurous. When I saw it in the supermarket I thought I’d give it a try.
What is Red Bush?
First of all, white/green/oolong/black tea is all made from the leaves from the camellia sinensis plant. The end product simply depends on how long the leaves have been fermented.
Red Bush (pronounced roy-boss) on the other hand is a completely different plant grown in the Western Cape Province. The leaves are actually green but turn red when oxidized.

Is Eating Chocolate Healthy? 2007-09-11 08:23:45 A lot of health products are pretty controversial but chocolate probably tops the list. There’s been new study after new study, each raises doubts on the finding of the previous. The problem is that we all naturally crave sweet things and if we’re told that chocolate is good for us then we’re more than willing to believe it.
Flavonoids
The main reason chocolate often makes the health news is that it contains flavonoids (a class of phytochemicals). Flavonoids have been found to improve the circulatory system plus they are also antioxidants which remove free radicals from our bodies.
For some people this is enough evidence to continue eating bars of chocolate every day. However in reality chocolate also contains fat and sugar which somewhat outweighs any benefits you may enjoy from the antioxidants. Plus there are much healthier sources of antioxidants such as tea, fruit and vegetables which don’t contain fat and sugar.
That’s not to say you should d Read more:Chocolate

5 Reasons You Need to Laugh More 2007-09-06 09:02:09 In my quest for a healthy lifestyle you may wonder why I’ve just ordered several comedy DVDs from sitcoms such as One Foot in the Grave, Rab C. Nesbitt and Black Adder. Well, it’s because I truly believe laughter is the best medicine.
I’ve been finding that TV has been pretty depressing lately, the news is full of reports of shootings, stabbings, beatings and people having limbs blown off. Rarely are there any news items to make us laugh, smile or generally feel good about society.
There’s loads of health benefits associated with laughter, here’s a list of just 5.
1. Stress-busting Tears
When’s the last time you laughed so hard you cried? If it’s been a while, now’s the time to start. When we cry, whether it’s through sorrow or joy, it helps us reduce stress.

The Amazing Memory Kit Review 2007-09-27 06:20:26 Having spent almost four months blogging about health I just realized I’ve missed out a very important topic: memory. We all know that to keep our bodies fit and healthy we should get physical exercise and have a salad a day. But what about memory? Most of us think that loosing our memories is just something that goes hand-in-hand with getting older, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
The AmazingMemory
Kit
My mum bought The Amazing Memory Kit: Everything You Need to Improve Your Memory! a couple of years ago and, surprise surprise, forgot to use it. So over the weekend I decided to drag it out and check it over. The creator is Dominic O’Brien who has won the Wold Memory Championships eight times for being able to recall an amazing amount of information. He always believed that he was a slow learner however after seeing someone recall 52 playing cards in the correct order he decided to investigate a way of remembering better.

A Busy Workout in the Garden 2007-10-11 12:58:46 The review fee for this post will go to American Red Cross
Over the last couple of weeks it has been a battle of wills between me and the trees in our garden. It is of course that time of year again when a never ending supply of leaves fall to the ground. Everyday I’ve been out raking up the leaves and each morning some little Imp has put them all back again. Who needs to go to the gym when you’ve got a carpet of leaves to rake up every day?!
In addition to this I’ve also been painting the windows, removing the mastic and digging up the compost. All these tasks require tools which we’ve been keeping in the garage. Unfortunately the previous owners spent a small fortune building this crappy of piece junk. It’s ugly, narrow (not much wider than a car), has no windows and no lighting. I’m not sure what we plan on using the garage for in future, at the moment we have building materials for the house and gardening tools amongst other things. Not Read more:Workout

New Study: Tea Can Help Reduce Bone Loss 2007-10-11 10:14:23 Some more good news for those of us who drink black or green tea regularly. A recent study by Australian researchers found that tea can help protect us from bone loss and osteoporosis.
The findings were a result of a 5 year study on calcium, tea and osteoporosis. 275 women between the ages of 70 and 85 had their hip bone density measured at the beginning and end of the study.
It was found that tea-drinkers had 2.8% greater bone density than non-drinkers and that over four years, tea drinkers lost only 1.6% density compared to 4%
Researches couldn’t find a relation between results and number of cups drunk per day which suggests to me that even just drinking one cup per day could offer benefits. They also found that intake of calcium, coffee and smoking didn’t affect the results.
Although more research is needed it’s just more evidence that natural remedies do work. Plus, drinking tea is not expensive and is very tasty

Why Are Americans So Greedy? 2007-10-09 06:10:36 When my Mum and Dad were on a Hawaiian cruise a few years ago they were repulsed by the amount of gluttony displayed by the American passengers. Instead of people just putting what they could eat on the plate, they cram everything on as if it were their last meal before they died. What was really disgusting was that half of it ended up being thrown out.
Why Do They Act Like This?
Why can’t they just help themselves to what they know they can eat instead of being so wasteful? Do they not have the self-control just to eat sausage and eggs one day and bacon and beans the next?
My old dog used to live for food and would sometimes escape to raid the bins behind restaurants and takeaways. She would eat so much she had to be carried home. At least she had an excuse! She was a stray found by my Gran begging for food outside a butcher shop. Even although we gave her regular meals still had the fear of not knowing when her next meal would be.

Memory Techniques: Linkword Languages Review 2007-10-03 08:55:59 The ability to learn is very important and can have an affect on our confidence. My boyfriend used to work in recruitment and training and found that many people who have difficulties in learning also suffer from depression. The problem is that the way lessons are taught aren’t always the most effective for everyone.
I can remember sitting in my French class like it was yesterday. The teacher would hold up picture cards and ask what the objects are in French. Everyone else seemed to get it straight away but whenever I was asked my mind would go blank. I came to the conclusion that I just didn’t have what it takes to learn another language.

Bizarre: Dentist Fondles 27 Female Patients 2007-10-17 11:18:06
The award for the worst excuse ever goes to dentist Dr. Mark Anderson who claimed that the breast fondling of 27 female patients was purely “professional”. He claims that the massaging of his patients’ chests was to treat temporo-mandibular joint disorder (TMJ), which is the cause of neck and head pain.
Not only that but attorney Rober Zao told administrative law judge Jonathan Lew that his client should be able to keep his licence so that he can feed his seven children and pay for his defence.
Having looked more at TMJ I cannot find anything about massaging the breasts and there is certainly nothing to suggest that having a sleazy dentist shove his hands into your bra is going to help.
It seems the judge has made no final decision. I say send him to the slammer!

Are Digestive Enzymes the Ultimate Supplement? 2007-10-18 11:19:42 Many glossy magazines have a special knack of convincing us that we can’t live without a particular supplement. Before you know it, your kitchen cupboard resembles a mini-health store. Yeah, so there are a number of supplements that are very good for you such as Evening Primrose Oil, Cod Liver Oil and Spirulina, however if you had to choose just one what would it be?
For me I think I would have to choose DigestiveEnzymes
.
What are Digestive Enzymes?
Digestive enzymes digest our food so that we can use the nutrients to keep our body healthy. There are many types of enzymes, each with a specific role. For instance, amylase digests starch, whilst lipase digests fats. Without these enzymes we will suffer from indigestion, malnutrition or even a weakened immune system.
How do We Normally Get Digestive Enzymes?
If you are eating a diet largely made up of processed food then it’s unlikely intaking enough enzymes. This means your body then has to produce its own enzymes. Read more:Ultimate
