No More Junk, Proposes a Federal Bill

A federal bill introduced this month proposes replacing fast food in schools with healthy alternatives, but in order to pass, the bill must first win concessions from food companies like The Coca-Cola Co. and Mars Inc., which have a strong financial investment in selling junk food in schools. The bill, titled the Child Nutrition Promotion and School Lunch Protection Act and sponsored by Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Democrat Sen. Tom Harkin (Iowa), would update the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s nutritional standards which schools must follow and would extend those standards to all foods sold inside public schools. McDonald’s, Shrek launch monster combo

In its biggest marketing push behind “healthy” foods to date, McDonald ’s is launching a promotional campaign tied to the third installment of “Shrek ” movies that will promote a happy meal with chicken nuggets, apple slices and low-fat milk. Four new diabetes drugs to hit the market
