Let's greet A-Rod with a chant
2007-05-31 21:52:00
With a comment on a previous post of mine, it gave me an idea for a post. With Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees coming to Fenway Park tomorrow night, it's only appropriate that Red Sox fans greet A-Rod with some kind of chant especially since his bush league play on Wednesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays, and with the pictures of him with a busty blonde at a hotel. I've jotted down some possible chants but I know you can think of better ones. Post a comment and let us all know what to chant and if you have some thoughts of a different chant. Here are some quick ones I came up with:A-Rod sucks!Where's your strippa?Where's your she-male?Who's the bitch?A-Rod's a cheata!Where's your wife?Oh yea and don't forget to bring your blonde wigs and dollar bills to the games at Fenway and wave your dollar bills at A-Rod when he comes to the plate. It may distract him.

Alex Rodriguez and more problems
2007-05-31 17:02:00
Besides the whole yelling "mine" mess that A-Rod is in, he has even more problems . Seems he can't stay out of the media. Apparently he was with another woman (a blonde busty type) on Sunday night in Toronto, and last night his wife was seen leaving with two suitcases. A-Rod apparently likes strip clubs a lot and has been seen at some and with this blonde before. From an article on NYDailyNews.com:"In New York, A-Rod used to be a regular at the VIP Club, where he always asked for a dancer who performs under the stage name Monique. Monique is 5-feet-5 with brown hair and brown eyes and has a well-toned, muscular figure, a pal said.""A petite stripper at the Hustler Club said A-Rod 'likes the she-male, muscular type. They brought me up to the champagne room one time. I spun around once and that was it. I'm not his type.'""A-Rod also regularly hangs out at other strip clubs in New York, such as HeadQuarters and Rick's Cabaret. 'A-Rod is known as the king of the strip clubs,' a sourc

Alex Rodriguez's bush league play
2007-05-31 14:10:00
You can now add the Toronto Blue Jays as teams who don't like Alex Rodriguez as last night he distracted Blue Jays third baseman Howie Clark by supposedly shouting at him when there was a popup in the area between third base and shortstop. So Clark thought that John McDonald would make the catch but the ball fell. Soon after that McDonald had some words for A-Rod and quickly the third base umpire stepped between them. According to A-Rod he only said "Hah!" at the time of the play. View a YouTube video of this down below in this post. Of the incident, Rodriguez said:"In a situation like that, that play happens to me three or four times a week, except it's not at third base -- [it's] over by the dugout, foul territory," Rodriguez said. "Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. ... I get screamed at all the time on the field. I didn't say, 'I got it' or anything like that."Blue Jays' third baseman Howie Clark said about the play:"I heard a 'Mine' call and so I let it go," Clark

A look back at the Varitek-Rodriguez brawl
2007-05-31 12:56:00
Just taking a look back at the Red Sox-Yankees brawl with Jason Varitek vs Alex Rodriguez brawl and everyone joining in on the bench clearing brawl. To the side Tanyon Sturtze grabbed Gabe Kapler from behind so David Ortiz and Trot Nixon come to the rescue of Kapler.

Underpaid and overpaid Sox and Yanks
2007-05-30 22:39:00
Jeff Passan on Yahoo! Sports wrote an article with the most overpaid and most underpaid players in baseball. Some Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees were included on the lists. The players Mr. Passan thinks are overpaid and underpaid that are on the Red Sox or Yankees are:Red Sox overpaid players-Julio Lugo at $8.25 M - he makes the point that Lugo only has 26 runs through 48 games and hasn't gotten on base as much as he would like-J.D. Drew at $14.4 M - he makes the point that Drew doesn't have good power numbers right now and his batting average is low-Matt Clement at $9.5 M - he makes the point that he's been injured a lotYankees overpaid players-Bobby Abreu at $15 M - he makes the point that Abreu doesn't have many extra-base hits, and isn't walking as much as he use to-Carl Pavano at $10 M - he makes the obvious point that he's been hurt a lot and will be out for a whileThe writer didn't list any underpaid players for the Red Sox or for the Yankees. Other players to note f

Clemens won't start against Red Sox
2007-05-29 19:47:00
On ESPN.com, the Associated Press is saying that it looks like Roger Clemens will not make his first start against the Boston Red Sox , but rather he will make his first start against the Chicago White Sox next Monday.Yankees' manager Joe Torre had this to say about having Clemens not pitch against the Red Sox:"I'm not disappointed that he's not pitching at Fenway," Torre said. "I don't think that series needs any more hype than it gets every time we play it, whether it's in Fenway or at the Stadium. You'd obviously be tempted if you had a kid pitching and you can replace him with Roger Clemens. When you have Wang, Moose and Andy, there's really not the temptation to do that."I personally would have liked to have seen him pitch against the Red Sox. I guess we'll have to wait until later this season to maybe see Clemens start against the Red Sox. Do you think Torre should start Clemens in this upcoming series against the Red Sox?

Yankees tied with Rays for last place
2007-05-29 16:20:00
Looking at the AL East standings at the start of today, the New York Yankees are tied for last place in the division with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with a 21-28 record. The Yankees are 13.5 games behind the first place Boston Red Sox. The Yankees have a 12-13 record when playing at home, and a 9-15 record when playing away from home. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and are on a 4-game losing streak. They are going to have to turn things around soon if they want any chance to make the playoffs this season.

Roger Clemens is back with Yankees
2007-05-06 16:05:00
Roger Clemens has announced that he has signed with the New York Yankees . The 44-year old pitcher will definitely help the Yankees disappointing rotation so far this season. Clemens last season made 19 starts with the Houston Astros and went 7-6 with a 2.30 ERA. Clemens will probably make a minor league start before pitching in any MLB games for the Yankees. I think this is a big good move by the Yankees. Clemens is old but he looks to still have it. We'll see soon if that is correct or not.

Joe Torre in the hot seat
2007-04-29 20:51:00
With the Yankees off to their 9-14 start there has been a lot of talk that Yankees' owner George Steinbrenner is thinking about firing manager Joe Torre . But is the Yankees bad pitching really Torre's fault? It's really the players' fault and how bad the relief pitching has been and ok starting pitching has been. You can blame the manager only so much, but this time it is the player's fault. If I were Steinbrenner, I would keep Torre and try and get some pitching help either via trades or the minor league system. If you were Steinbrenner, what would you do? Fire Torre or keep him? Some quotes from Joe Torre:"It's out of my control," Torre said. "If that's what happens, it happens. It's certainly not what I'm thinking about as I'm sitting on the bench.""I don't think the standings are an issue at this point," Torre said. "We all know we're going to start winning consistently sooner or later, and obviously sooner is more appropriate. But I don't think you're concerned in Apr

Cora or Pedroia, who would you start?
2007-04-29 19:50:00
The Red Sox have an interesting dilemma with their second base position and who should play there regularly. There is the rookie Dustin Pedroia and veteran Alex Cora. Pedroia so far this season has struggled at the plate while Cora has been hitting. During the off-season and spring training it was assumed that Pedroia would be the starter at second base with Cora backing him up, but with Cora's play at the plate I think the Red Sox have to look realistically and maybe platoon Pedroia and Cora at second base and let them decide who plays more. Maybe the Red Sox can go by stats and play Cora against pitchers he has been good against in the past and play Pedroia in the other games? Anyways, this is a good problem to have, two second basemen who can play the position, but can the Red Sox afford to have Pedroia's struggling bat in the lineup? Maybe for now but if it gets later in the season and Pedroia is still struggling at the plate, then look for Cora to be the regular at second base.I

A bloody sock mess
2007-04-28 16:12:00
The big story for the past few days has been about Baltimore Orioles announcer Gary Thorne (formerly of ESPN and ESPN2, doing play-by-play of NHL games) and his mishearing and misinterpretation of Doug Mirabelli's comments about Curt Schilling and his bloody sock in the 2004 American League Championship series against the New York Yankees. A day after his comments he had another chat with Mirabelli to get things straight and now knows he misinterpreted the whole thing. From a RedSox.com article:"He said one thing, and I heard something else," said Thorne of the earlier conversation, which happened a year or two ago. "I reported what I heard and what I honestly felt was said. Having talked with him today, there's no doubt in my mind that's not what he said [and] that's not what he meant."He explained why in the context of the sarcasm and the jabbing that goes on in the clubhouse, [and] that I understand. I took it as something serious, and it wasn't."What I don't get is why Gary Th

Yankees swept by Red Sox
2007-04-24 19:57:00
Sunday night the Yankees lost to the Boston Red Sox and were swept by the Sox three straight games. With the Yankees off to a slow start, going 8-10, they are 4th place in the AL East division. Only the Tampa Bay Devils Rays are behind the Yankees, who coincidently are playing each other. Yankees fans, what's up with your team? Alex Rodriguez is on fire and hitting everything. But the Yankees pitching looks questionable, especially the Yankees bullpen. Pitchers Luis Vizcaino (5.40 ERA, 1 blown save), Kyle Farnsworth (6.14 ERA, 1 blown save), and even Mariano Rivera (7.11 ERA, 2 blown saves) have all looked shaky so far this season. Will the Yankees rebound from this bad start? Or will they continue with their .500 play? Their pitching definitely needs to get better if they are going to make the playoffs this season.

Red Sox go for sweep tonight
2007-04-22 18:39:00
With the Red Sox winning the first and second games of the first series between these two power houses, the Red Sox will be going for the sweep tonight with Daisuke Matsuzaka on the mound for the Red Sox against Yankees rookie pitcher Chase Wright. The first two games have been good and I'm looking forward to the third game. You can read more about the first two games of this series on the Red Sox vs Yankees site.

Watch out for flying pizza!
2007-04-20 17:25:00
If you're at a Boston Red Sox game and if you miss a foul ball or drop a foul ball, watch out because you may just get hit with a slice of pizza, as a Red Sox fan did at a recent game. Watch the YouTube video clip below. Funny stuff!

Daisuke Matsuzaka makes impressive season debut
2007-04-05 22:47:00
Earlier today Boston Red Sox fans got to see Daisuke Matsuzaka pitch and what a show he put on. Matsuzaka pitched 7 innings, allowed 6 hits, 1 run, had 1 walk, and 10 strikeouts against the Kansas City Royals. He threw a total of 108 pitches, with 74 of them being strikes. The Red Sox won the game 4-1, and Matsuzaka is 1-0. Yes it was against the Royals, but it still was impressive how he changed his pitches against batters and his approach against them. He definitely had them fooled as some of them looked lost when swinging and missing, or taking a call third-strike from the umpire. He looks like a special pitcher and Red Sox fans hope he can continue this kind of dominance over other teams/better teams such as the New York Yankees.

Red Sox and Yankees news feeds added to site
2007-03-29 14:55:00
We have added Boston Red Sox news and New York Yankees news feeds on the right side of the blog pages. The news is from the RedSox.com site and the Yankees.com site. If you have any feedback and/or suggestions for the site, feel free to leave a comment. We appreciate all feedback.

Red Sox 25-man roster looks set
2007-03-29 14:45:00
The 2006 Boston Red Sox look to have set their 25-man roster as pitchers Kyle Snyder and Javy Lopez have won the last two roster spots. Pitchers Craig Hansen, Manny Delcarmen, and Bryan Corey will start the 2006 season in Triple-A with the Pawtucket Red Sox. The Red Sox feel they may have rushed Hansen last year so this year they want him to develop in Triple-A. With Delcarmen they felt he needed to go to Triple-A so he can get some playing time as the Red Sox look to have a full bullpen. The position bench/backup players look to be: Wily Mo Pena, Doug Mirabelli, Alex Cora, and Eric Hinske.

Yankees Chien-Ming Wang to start season on DL
2007-03-24 23:52:00
In an article on Yahoo! it said that New York Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang will start the season on the DL because of a right hamstring injury. He will probably be out for a month. This isn't good news for the Yankees as he won 19 games last season. Yankees manager said that the opening day starter will be either Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa or Jeff Karstens.

Papelbon to be Red Sox closer once again
2007-03-22 14:15:00
ESPN and Boston sports radio is reporting that the Boston Red Sox will announce that pitcher Jonathan Papelbon will move back to the closer role. It looks like pitcher Julian Tavarez will move to the fifth starter spot as he pitched well at the end of last season in the starting role. From a RedSox.com article:"The reason Papelbon was moved out of the closer's role in the first place was for health reasons. Papelbon suffered a subluxation of his right shoulder on Sept. 1, 2006. Shortly thereafter, the Red Sox, citing advice from the medical staff, announced that Papelbon would be best suited, at least in the short term, to go back to starting."I think this is a good move because the closer role is important as Red Sox fans know from past seasons. And Tavarez showed he can pitch well when starting, he just has to be consistent. What do Sox fans think of this move?

Interesting comments by Manny Ramirez
2007-03-22 00:40:00
We got Manny Ramirez comments, oh boy what now you ask? Well in a BostonHerald.com article Manny Ramirez had some interesting things to say:"I got two years left, and that's it. That's the end of the story. I'm going to move on. I'm going to play, probably somewhere else," Ramirez said. "But don’t worry. I'm going to be fine here. I'm not going to leave $35 million on the table."When told most people wouldn't leave that kind of cash, he shook his head, and said: "Exactly.""Boston is cool. I ain't got no problem outside with nobody," Ramirez said. "I go wherever and people don't bother me. I'm fine. That's not a problem." Well don't you just love having a player play on your team that can't wait to leave? I don't know why this bothers me so much because it seems to says stuff like this every year but it just does. If you were the Red Sox GM, what would you do with Ramirez? Trade him? Keep him and ignore him?

Timlin will start season on DL
2007-03-22 00:28:00
The Red Sox will start the season with pitcher Mike Timlin on the disabled list with a minor strain of the oblique muscle on the left side of his rib cage. Timlin was the leading candidate to be Red Sox closer but now with him going to be on the disabled list for the start of the season, it looks like pitcher Julian Tavarez will have a chance to win that spot. Also if free agent pitcher Joel Pineiro can improve and show that he can be a closer, than I think he would have the better shot at closing for the Red Sox than Tavarez.Who do you think should be the closer for the Red Sox at the start of the season?

Alex Rodriguez may leave after season
2007-03-15 01:05:00
Alex Rodriguez is at it again. No, he's not talking about his sleep overs at Derek Jeter's place, but he talked on WFAN radio, and basically said that the fans can embrace him or he can leave, due to his contract status after this season.Quotes from a New York Times article:"Either New York is going to kick me out of New York this year. ..." He did not finish the sentence because Russo interjected, but Rodriguez continued: "Listen, at some point, either New York is going to say, 'I've had enough of this guy, get him the hell out of here' — and we have an option — or New York is going to say, 'Hey, we won a world championship, you had a big year, you're a part of it, we want you back.'"Rodriguez twice declined to answer Russo’s questions about his relationship with Derek Jeter, the Yankees’ shortstop and captain. When pressed about whether he had friends in the clubhouse, Rodriguez laughed."I get along absolutely tremendously with everyone," he said, before adding, "I th

Yankees new stadium
2007-03-15 00:57:00
I know you Yankees fans are interested in the new Yankee stadium being built. But you'll have to wait until August 16, 2009 to see it open. You can read about the new stadium and see a design of it on this Yankees.com page. Yankees stadium has been around for 84 years. The new Yankee Stadium will seat fewer than the current stadium, but it will have 60 luxury suites, including three outdoor suites and eight party suites. It will have many restaurants, larger concourses and entertainment areas.

Red Sox and Yankees look forward to season
2007-03-15 00:45:00
With the Red Sox beating the Yankees 7-5 on Monday in their only spring training meeting this spring, both teams look forward to the regular season when they first meet on April 20th at Fenway Park. You can see this year's Red Sox vs Yankees schedule on the Red Sox vs Yankees site. I'm looking towards to this season as the Red Sox and Yankees look to be about even looking at their rosters. What do you guys think? Lets us know, leave a comment.

Johnny Damon will play some first base
2007-06-03 18:25:00
The Yankees must be deperate because Johnny Damon has been practicing at first base for the Yankees. Tonight though Josh Phelps will play first base for the Yankees against the Red Sox, but Damon will eventually play at first base for the Yankees while Doug Mientkiewicz and Jason Giambi are out of the lineup.About playing first base, Johnny Damon said:"[Joe Torre] told me to work there and in the [outfield] corners. I am going to play [first] eventually. I am OK with it."

Mientkiewicz out with concussion
2007-06-03 18:19:00
Red Sox' third baseman Mike Lowell had a big game yesterday, going 3 for 4 with a home run and hitting two Yankees on the basepaths. He knocked down second baseman Robinson Cano and ran into first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Mientkiewicz was noticeably hurt after Lowell ran into him and he had to come out of the game and be carried off on a cart. After the game Mike Lowell said:"Doug's a guy I hang out with sometimes in the offseason. I know him from growing up in Florida. I just hope he's OK."Today on ESPN, they are saying that Mientkiewicz is out with a fractured bone in his right wrist.

Scott Proctor won't be suspended
2007-06-03 18:07:00
Yankees' pitcher Scott Proctor won't be suspended for his high and inside pitch on Red Sox' Kevin Youkilis on Friday night. This really isn't a surprise as no brawl ensued after this incident even though the benches and bullpens did come out onto the field. Youkilis was very upset after the high and inside pitch to him from Proctor, and even Yankees' catcher Jorge Posada tried calming him down by talking to him after the high pitch and on his way to first base.

Torre thinks what A-Rod did was inappropriate
2007-06-02 00:02:00
From an article on ESPN.com, Joe Torre is quoted saying:"He may have been excited about the fact that we were leading the ballgame," Torre said Friday before his team's series opener at Boston. "It was probably inappropriate to do it at the time he did it, but you can't change it, unfortunately.""It's probably something he shouldn't have done," Torre said. "I don't sense he's going to do it again."Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had this to say about the Alex Rodriguez play:"Alex, New York, biggest contract, biggest team," Cashman said. "That's combustible right there. If this is in Kansas City, it probably would be a story that wouldn't have lasted two days. It's a longer story and a louder story because it's New York and it's Alex Rodriguez."It's interesting to hear the comments by Joe Torre and that he doesn't think it was appropriate of what Alex Rodriguez did in Toronto. Even some other MLB players have commented on the A-Rod incident, including Barry Bonds, Oma

Red Sox fans taunt A-Rod with blonde girl mask
2007-06-01 19:56:00
In tonight's game, Boston Red Sox fans have been taunting Alex Rodriguez with a mask of a blonde haired woman while he is at the plate and by yelling things at him whenever he comes to the plate. I don't know who gave out the masks but good job. Watching the game on television they were showing some of the fans wearing those masks and some fans were waving dollar bills at A-Rod when he was at the plate. Check out the picture below of Sox fans with the blonde masks on.(Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)
