Jason Giambi could be out for a long time 2007-06-01 19:08:00 Steroid user JasonGiambi
will be out for at least 3 weeks and maybe up to 3 months with torn tissue in the arch of his left foot. Apparently the torn tissue that Giambi has will not require surgery. While Giambi is out of the lineup Johnny Damon will be in the DH spot while Melky Cabrera will play in the outfield.
Delcarmen back up with the Sox 2007-06-18 15:32:00 With Red Sox reliever Brendan Donnelly going on the DL because of tightness in his forearm, the Red Sox called up young pitcher Manny Delcarmen. Delcarmen hasn't allowed a run since May 5th while pitching for the Triple-A team in Pawtucket.

Former Yankee Sheffield blasts Torre 2007-07-13 22:53:00 ESPN.com is reporting that in an interview with HBO's "Real Sports", which will air next Tuesday, Gary Sheffield
says that Yankee
s manager Joe Torre
treats black players differently from white players. Sheffield also said that Derek Jeter is not "all the way" black as he is bi-racial.Here are some parts/Sheffield quotes from the ESPN.com article:Sheffield says Torre treats black players differently from white players and says Jeter, who is from a mixed-race marriage, "ain't all the way black," during the interview with Andrea Kremer, as reported by Newsday.Sheffield, who left the Yankees after last season to sign a free-agent deal with the Detroit Tigers, claimed that a "couple of blacks that were there" had an issue with Torre."They weren't treated like everybody else. I got called out in a couple of meetings that I thought were unfair," Sheffield told Kremer.Sheffield later added: "He had a message to get across to the whole team, so he used me to get the message across." Jessica Biel is a Red Sox fan 2007-07-21 20:05:00 I didn't know this but beautiful sexy actress Jessica
Biel, who is in the new movie "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry", is a Boston Red Sox
fan. A post on BostonDirtDogs.com had this quote from Jessica from her on the Regis and Kelly show."I didn't really understand the rivalry until I went to a game [at Yankee Stadium]... I went to Tufts so... and my friend told me I had to wear Red Sox gear... It was one of the best New York experiences of my life [being a Red Sox fan in Yankee Stadium] and I loved it. I had a hat, I had a Red Sox t-shirt, they knew who I was. It was pretty interesting." -- 7.19.07, Jessica Biel

Canseco says he has info on A-Rod 2007-07-29 14:01:00 On ESPN.com, there's a news story that says that on Friday Jose Canseco told Boston's WEEI radio station that he has "other stuff" on Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Any response from A-Rod? Quoted from the news story:In Baltimore for the Yankees' game against the Orioles on Saturday night, Rodriguez told reporters that he hadn't heard Canseco's comments about him. "And I have no comment," he told the newspaper. So I guess we'll have to wait until Jose Canseco's second book comes out to read about what Alex Rodriuguez has supposedly done. Is anyone else sick of hearing about Jose Canseco and his books? Just go away man. I wonder how many he'll sell this time. I'm not buying a copy just like I didn't buy his first book.
Red Sox get Eric Gagne 2007-07-31 22:14:00 Today the Boston Red Sox
made a big trade in acquiring reliever/closer Eric Gagne from the Texas Rangers. In order to get him though, the Red Sox gave up good promising pitcher Kason Gabbard, prospect outfielder David Murphy, and outfielder Engel Beltre. This is a big move to improve the bullpen but they also gave up a lot I think. I think it's a good move but giving up both Gabbard and Murphy was something I didn't want to do. We'll see if Gagne can stay healthy and improve the Red Sox bullpen. What do you think of this trade?
Yankees make minor move 2007-08-01 19:16:00 With the Red Sox getting Eric Gagne, the Yankees
didn't make any big time trades. On Tuesday they traded pitcher Scott Proctor to the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder/utility man Wilson Betemit. On July 22nd the Yankees acquired catcher Jose Molina from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for pitcher Jeff Kennard to shore up their backup catcher spot. I would say that the Red Sox bolstered their team more than the Yankees have at this year's trade deadline.
Red Sox trade Pena, recall Kielty 2007-08-19 01:22:00 With the Boston Red Sox
trading outfielder Willy Mo Pena to the Washington Nationals with cash considerations for a player to be named, the Red Sox recall
ed outfielder Bobby Kielty. Kielty should provide better defense in the outfield than Pena, but he is no gold glove. Offensively, they both have struggled. Pena played in 74 games, had 159 at-bats, hit 5 home runs, had 17 RBIs, and a .220 batting average. While Kielty only played in 13 games, had 35 at-bats, had 3 RBIs, and a .200 batting average. For the Red Sox hopefully Kielty brings them more than what Pena did for them.
Alex Rodriguez may be on move next year 2007-09-23 21:24:00 There's a report out there from New York Magazine that Alex Rodriguez
may be headed to the Chicago Cubs next season."According to the magazine, Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras, has already identified the leading candidate to buy the Cubs and has begun negotiations on a contract. If that is true, it could lead the Yankees to file tampering charges, since Rodriguez already is under contract.Citing sources, the magazine reported that the deal could reach the $30 million per year level over 10 years, with part of the contract deferred toward an eventual stake in the franchise."
Roger Clemens will miss his next start 2007-09-04 17:25:00 In an article on ESPN.com, RogerClemens
will miss his next start because of his elbow."Clemens will have a cortisone shot Wednesday following his Monday start against Seattle that was cut short in the fifth inning. Clemens said he thought the elbow problem stemmed from a blister on his foot that caused him to alter his mechanics. He had a MRI exam after the game; the injury is not believed to be serious." Red Sox clinch AL East division 2007-09-29 11:52:00 With the Red Sox
beating the Twins and with the Orioles beating the Yankees yesterday, the Red Sox clinched the AL East division title. It's been 12 years since they have done that. Also the playoff matchups are set for the AL. The Red Sox will play the Los Angeles Angels and the Yankees will play the Cleveland Indians. The Red Sox have had sole possession of first place in the division since a 4-1 win at Toronto on April 18th.

Alex Rodriguez is likely to opt out of contract 2007-10-10 07:59:00 According to a Yahoo! News article, Alex Rodriguez
will probably be looking for a new team and contract
for next season. A-Rod's agent, Scott Boras had some interesting quotes:"Scott Boras hinted Tuesday that A-Rod will opt out of the final three seasons of his contract with the New York Yankees and seek a new deal in the free-agent market that will lock him up through his pursuit of Barry Bonds' home-run record.""Alex wants to be in one uniform for a long, long time, if not to the end of his career," Boras said of the 32-year-old, headed to his third AL MVP Award. "I think Alex could play very reasonably until he's 45. So you're talking about a situation where we want this guy to be identified with one franchise and one uniform for a very, very long time.""That team is going to be associated with having a player in its organization that has this history, this value," Boras said, "and they're going to be able to market that and go through the varying chases and levels of passing p Read more:likely
Yankees out of playoffs 2007-10-08 23:36:00 On Monday night the New York Yankees
lost to the Cleveland Indians in game 4 and the Indians will now play the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series. Before game 3 George Steinbrenner said that if the Yankees make an early exit in this years' playoffs then Joe Torre may not be the manager next season. Don Mattingly and Joe Girardi seem to be the leading candidates to replace Torre. What do Yankee fans think George should do? Fire Torre or keep Torre?
Roger Clemens is removed from Yankees playoff roster 2007-10-08 18:40:00 Today the New York Yankeesremoved
veteran pitcher RogerClemens
from their playoff
roster and replaced him with left-handed reliever Ron Villone. So now Clemens is ineligible for the AL championship series if the Yankees come back and beat the Cleveland Indians. From Yahoo! News:Clemens re-injured a hamstring Sunday and left in the third inning of New York's 8-4 win over the Cleveland Indians in Game 3. He met with manager Joe Torre and general manager Brian Cashman after the game."Normally, he'd fight," Cashman said. "But he didn't fight this one. He knows his body and he knows that he did enough damage in there that he wouldn't be ready." Read more:Roger Clemens

Alex Rodriguez opts out of contract with Yankees 2007-10-28 23:33:00 During Game 4 of the World Series, it's been reported that Yankees
3B Alex Rodriguez
has opted out of his contract
with the New York Yankees. So A-Rod has opted out of his 10-year, $252 million contract. From a Yahoo! article:Rodriguez loses the final $72 million in guaranteed salary in the record contract, which he signed with Texas before the 2001 season. The Yankees lose $21.3 million in remaining payments from the Rangers, a subsidy agreed to at the time of his 2004 trade. New York has said it would not attempt to re-sign A-Rod if he opted out.Boras said during a telephone interview that Rodriguez made his choice because he was uncertain whether Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte would return to the Yankees. Boras said it became clear that the others wouldn't make a decision by Rodriguez's deadline to opt out -- 10 days after the World Series."Alex's decision was one based on not knowing what his closer, his catcher and one of his statured pitchers was going to do,"
Dodgers hire Joe Torre 2007-11-02 00:54:00 Former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre
has been hired by the Los Angeles Dodgers
. Torre signed a three-year deal worth $13 million. We'll see how he does out there in LA. The Red Sox-Yankees games will feel a little different to me without Torre. Looks like Don Mattingly may join Torre in LA.From a Yahoo! article:Don Mattingly, Torre's bench coach this year, is set to join his mentor in Los Angeles as hitting coach. Mattingly lost out to Girardi for the Yankees' managerial job.

came up with a list of 13 teams
(including the Boston Red Sox, but not the New York Yankees) he would be willing to play for next season. His first choice is to remain with the Boston Red Sox. The other 12 teams Schilling would be willing to play for are: Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Milwaukee Brewers. Yankees hire Joe Girardi as manager 2007-10-31 23:22:00 The New York Yankees
have hired former Yankees catcher Joe Girardi to a three-year contract. From ESPN.com:Girardi's deal is worth approximately $7.5 million, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports. According to The Associated Press' source, the deal includes bonuses based on how far the team advances in the postseason.Girardi was the 2006 NL Manager of the Year with Florida, plus he has a pinstriped pedigree. The hard-nosed catcher played on three Yankees teams that won the World Series, served as their bench coach under Torre in 2005 and was a TV announcer for the YES network in 2004 and this year.It seems that though once Don Mattingly heard he didn't get the job, he "told the team he had no interest in returning next year as bench coach or in any other coaching position."We'll see next season what Girardi can do with a veteran team, which is different from the young Florida Marlins team he managed before. Also, will Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettite, or Jorge Posada want to stay w Read more:manager
Red Sox Kevin Youkilis wins Gold Glove 2007-11-06 16:38:00 Red Sox first baseman Kevin
Youkilis won the American League Gold Glove
for the first base position. Youkilis played 135 errorless games for the Red Sox, which is just amazing and shows how good Youkilis is at first base. Congratulations to Kevin Youkilis. From a RedSox.com article:Youkilis is the first Boston Red Sox player to win a Gold Glove since Jason Varitek in 2005, and the 15th Red Sox winner since Gold Gloves were first awarded in 1957. Teammates Dustin Pedroia and Coco Crisp, whose outstanding defensive seasons made them buzz-worthy candidates, if not favorites, were nevertheless denied Gold Gloves. For Youkilis, Tuesday's announcement wrapped up what had mostly become a forgone conclusion. The star first-sacker was the only first baseman in either league to finish with as many as 1,080 errorless chances at his position. Kansas City's Ryan Shealy was second, with 432.Youkilis' year at first was so great, in fact, that history struggles to provide an adequate comparison. On S Read more:Red Sox

Yankees re-sign Mariano Rivera 2007-11-19 21:59:00 The New York Yankees
have re-signed closer MarianoRivera
to a three-year contract worth $45 million. With Joe Torre leaving I wasn't sure if Rivera would come back to the Yankees but he has. That's good news for the Yankees. From NewYorkYankees.com:Rivera, who turns 38 on Nov. 29, will become baseball's highest-paid closer once he passes a physical, earning $15 million per year through the 2010 season. His annual salary surpasses the $10.5 million earned across town by the Mets' Billy Wagner."I think Mariano is obviously someone that we can't live without," said Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, this year's American League MVP. and Alex Rodriguez
have agreed to a 10-year contract worth $275 million. From Yahoo! News article:"The whole thing was a mistake. It was a huge debacle," A-Rod said Thursday after finalizing his $275 million, 10-year contract. "For me it was very stressful. It was a very humbling experience. I knew what I wanted from Day 1. The mistake I made is that I should have called Hank and Hal from the get-go and I didn't do that. And I blame me."A-Rod's deal, which allows him to earn as much as $305 million, broke the previous baseball record — set by his $252 million, 10-year contract with Texas in December 2000. Traded to the Yankees in 2004, he opted out of that deal Oct. 28, during the final game of the World Series.
