Snow is Fun 2008-02-20 19:00:10 It started snowing around noon today, and its been going on and off ever since. Unfortunately, it will probably make it so I can't see the lunar eclipse. But I only have to wait another three years.I spent most of today working on the Big Head design. A roadblock of sorts was hit, however, I just can't seem to finish it properly. Maybe working on a skateboard design would help out a bit. They're running a photography contest at Popdeck.com. I don't know how the results will turn out, but it should be interesting. My Stuffed Dragon shirt arrived today. It is really surreal to be wearing something you designed. I don't think I'll ever really get over that. There's a link on the right that leads you to a place to buy one for yourself. The design is printed on an American Apparel t-shirt, and t
Quick Update 2008-02-18 13:19:30 Alright, I'll have another post today, but seeing as this is time sensitive, I thought I'd throw this up.As I eluded to in the past couple entries, something of mine went up for sale today. Time to reveal what:It's a shirt for shirt.woot and it went up for sale at midnight for $10. The reason its time sensitive is because after midnight tonight the price goes up. The Assassination of Sense 2008-02-17 15:41:08 Here's the beginnings of a new project. Right now, let's just call it Big Head. The top of the head will be rounded out more. However, as in most of my work, the beard/hair are intentionally placed oddly.I just saw this today, and it really was great. You have to be invested in watching it, what with the 160 minute running time, but I thought it was well worth it.This is one of my favorite shots in the film. Using the doorway as a frame is nothing new, but I always like it when it's used. This is the finished product from the piece I showed. I ended up calling it Then, Things Got Interesting. If it goes up for voting at DBH, I'll make sure to post a link.Have a good one.----------------Now playing: The Who - Baba O'Rileyvia FoxyTunes Read more:Assassination

Items In Need of Checking 2008-02-15 20:00:57 Image provided by popdeck.comAs I mentioned in an earlier post, one of my designs (which just happens to be the one shown above) got printed over at popdeck.com. Well, there are only 14 left; so, get on the buggy, stop off at the general store, and buy one. And yes, each board is numbered and comes with the label seen on the right. Just South of the Bearded Hills 2008-02-13 20:17:27 One day during the Fall of 2002, while walking to school over the bearded hills, I saw a gang of grenade wielding youth buying gum by a dog named Frothmore. The word 'buying' misconstrues the point, I suppose; no, they were looting and causing quite the ruckus as you might understand.Frothmore, the dog as you might remember, was wearing a hat made of fallen sunflower seeds and was being tormented by a murder of crows. They were diving back and forth over his head, mocking him more than eating. He didn't seem to mind, though, he would just roll his eyes and gazed at the gaggle of youth tormenting the local shop owners.I, having stopped at the top of one particularly bearded hill, began to move closer to the town and the wielders of mayhem. The group almost seemed oblivious to the power hel Read more:South

Time Traveling Chickens 2008-02-11 18:22:16 During my years on this planet I have come to the conclusion that chickens can time travel. Some aren't as good as others, but the gift is still there.I know you're thinking of the staggering number of flaws with my theory. Well, don't do that, I haven't even told you why I believe this to be true: Chicken feed. That's right, chicken feed is the key to inter-dimensional movement. I discovered this while viewing a newborn chick. It was enjoying some tasty feed, when suddenly there was this faint sense of slow-motion, and then it had moved to the other side of the feed pen. Upon further observation, I can safely say this was no fluke occurrence. No less than 15 chickens had the same mini-adventure.You may be asking, 'why do you think it was time travel and not some common means of teleporta Read more:Traveling

Thar She Blows 2008-02-10 18:43:58 It's been very windy here today, which has caused the electricity to be very sporadic. Although, it didn't matter too much, as I was working on a few sketches today.I'm so interested in patterns right now. They've always spoken to me anyway, but I've been reading about them recently and they're really fascinating. I guess that's a tease for a later entry, because, as of right now, putting together textbook level posts isn't my thing. Damn you, Time, and your constraint causing ways.I wanted to do something I used to do every Sunday, which involved putting up a color and seeing the response to it. Now, having not done this for a while, coupled with my anemic posting of late, I'm not expecting any response. However, if some random reader should wander by, they might just drop a comment.I thi
Sunshine and Tarnished Angels 2008-02-09 14:23:33 In 2057, a team of astronauts are on a mission to reignite a dying Sun in order to save Earth. That is the premise of the visually stunning Sunshine directed by Danny Boyle. You might remember him as the director of 28 Days Later, and I think this is right up there in the quality department. It's not only the visuals, however. This is a well-acted, expertly directed film, and I highly recommend it.I've always loved Noir. Be it in film or print, I can't get enough of the genre. So, me reading The Tarnished Angel made perfect sense. Here, you get the classic man against everything motif, but with a superhero twist. It's a collection of volumes from Astro City, a series created by Kurt Busiek, a man I began to admire after reading the new Conan books. The story revolves one ex-con's attempt to be Read more:Angels
The Changer of Lives 2008-02-08 19:45:15 This intro really brings back memories. I remember watching this show with friends and mocking the 'heart' guy. Good times. And yes, it shaped my admittedly feeble mind into what it is today.Take a look at some of the people they got to do voice work. I was a bit stunned.Tell me this is not the single greatest theme song for a cartoon centering around the physical embodiment of the elements. Go on, tell me.GO PLANET!!! Read more:Lives
A Shoe for Your Thoughts 2008-02-07 13:01:28 Alright, I mentioned I was working on a few shoe designs for the ongoing contest at iremba. Well, I submitted a couple, and seeing as I don't know if they'll be accepted or not, I'm just going to put them up now.Let me preface these with the knowledge that these designs would have been placed on a picture of a shoe, and would have looked much better.I called this Desert Landscape. They really reflect my style and color preference ; although, I probably would change the tongue color.I just called this Pattern. Probably the best color combo, but a bit bland I suppose. This one is on the scrap heap. I didn't really want to do a dark show anyway, and this shows my lack of focus.I'll probably try and do a few more before the Feb. 29th deadline. However, I've got some other projects I want to wo Read more:Shoe
The Arrival by Shaun Tan 2008-02-05 19:26:14 I was never one for writing reviews of things; it's just not me. However, I do want to do a small entry on this fantastic graphic novel. The Arrival by Shaun
Tan is a text-less telling of one immigrant's attempt at starting a new life for his family. The pages are filled with a fantastical land, beautifully rendered by Tan, and some truly jaw-dropping imagery.I initially looked over it, and set it aside for an hour or so. Then, I decided to pick it up and look a bit closer at everything. That's where the beauty is here, the details. I was blown away by the attention to the small things; in fact, many details took me several viewings to catch. Definitely a feast for the eyes.Anyway, I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone interested in this sort of thing. Here's a few helpful links:Buy
The Cold Has Broken 2008-02-04 17:48:18 I have finally gotten over the cold mentioned in the last entry. There's still some lingering effects, but not nearly as bad as it was.Anyway, I'm working on some shoe designs right now. Actually, they were supposed to be done by now; however, I just couldn't work on anything for the last few days. The designs are for iremba's contest, and it's a fun way to try some new methods. There also may be something of mine going on sale soon. More information on that when it becomes available.Have a good one. Read more:Broken
Cold Begat Laziness 2008-01-30 19:44:17 I got up feeling chipper, alright, not chipper but certainly well. In fact, I was ready to start on a couple of new projects. Then, BLURK!!! I'm in the fetal position wishing that the mucus gods would turn off the faucet.I never used to get sick, there are school attendance records to prove it. Now, it seems like I'm coming down with something every couple of months. Worse yet, colds make me lazy. If I had a faith system, I'm sure I'd be committing some kind of sin.Nothing got done today, nothing. I just ended up listening to Arcade Fire all day and staring out the window. By the by, squirrels certainly do seem to like trees.Anyway, no matter how lazy I get, I can always whore my goods. God Joins Striking Writers 2008-01-29 15:19:48 I got up today, as I often do, and was shocked to read that God had decided to join the WGA strike. As it turns out, He had a secret meeting with some bigwig and decided to stop His duties shortly after. So, as of right now, life has ceased to move on from 8:00 AM this morning. Luckily, that's when The Little Rascals are on, but it's still an inconvenience. With any luck, the powers that be will crumble under this new weight and the writers can finally have their day. Abundance of Danielle Steele 2008-01-28 20:43:26 I seem to be reading a ton of artist interviews, recently, in which listening to books on tape whilst working is mentioned. Well, I really enjoy reading, but have been fairly busy and thought this would be a great way to combat that. Also, unlike most, I can't seem to get into a groove while drawing/designing and listening to music. It's weird, I know. Anyway, so, I ventured off to the library to quench my need for book tapery.Kids were out of school day, for what I don't know, but they always seem to ruin my library experience (lousy kids trying to learn and expand their minds). After cursing the youth, I found the 'Book on Tap' shelf and began to peruse. I soon realized there was nothing but romance novels, particularly from the author that adorns the title.I spent ten minutes glaring o Read more:Abundance

Popdeck Winner 2008-01-21 17:51:10 As I posted on Friday, I recently did some designs for the popdeck.com contest. Well, one of those designs was recently picked and is now up for sale. Fat Pack Rats 2008-03-10 18:05:49 Never go to a record store at one in the afternoon. Some weird stuff goes down. Namely, dudes buying pornography. I mean come on.Bus convoys are rare but spectacular. There are three tennis balls in my general vicinity right now. Yet I have never played tennis, nor do I have no plans to start. Is the tennis ball the most versatile sports ball?My camera has been on the fritz for about three months. However, I can't find the time, or money, to get a new one/ fix it. Front-Loaded Penguins 2008-03-09 18:57:58 Woke up around 9 this morning and instantly remembered why I hate "Springing Forward". Of course, in two weeks I won't even be able to tell the difference. It was cold today, and windy, let's just say Don Quixote would've had his hands full. Luckily, I had a nice hat. Nothing showy, but comfortable.I'm not crazy about brimmed hats anymore. I don't think the whole brim fad will last much longer anyway.Typography has been interesting me lately. I'll never do the actual work involved in creating a usable font, I don't have the patience for it, but I like the idea of using it in my illustrations.Earth tones are really speaking to me lately. I've always loved them in general, but I'm really going to start limiting my palette to them. I'm not talking style change; well, I guess I am. Just a colo Read more:Front

Tracking the Backwards-Hoot Owl 2008-03-12 21:43:58 I have just re-joined Threadless. I guess that's something. I'm more comfortable with my overall style now, and plan to just submit regardless of response or appeal. That's how you make the big bucks. Expect a happy fun time link in the sidebar eventually.I was told by the dentist, today, that I have too much gum on my one and only wisdom tooth. Yes, I'm some kind of freakish abnormality. Now, I'm sure this is supposed to be alarming, and maybe it would be. However, no more than six months ago my tooth was in the exact same condition and he had absolutely no problems. Curse of the Jaded Sloth 2008-03-19 20:02:33 Oh, woe is me. I can not for the life of me think of something to do for the popdeck and allmightys contest. Normally, I don't have a problem thinking of something, but this is giving me fits. The theme is "Out and About" and while that should be easy it's almost too broad. Hopefully something will appear before me because I really want to do this.I'm ready for Spring now. Good thing because it starts tomorrow. Expect instant results.I was watching some featurettes on the making of God of War 2 today. It still doesn't register to me how some don't respect the level of skill and patience needed to make a video game. It seemed like a brutal ordeal. Great game though.Bunnies have just passed kittens for number three on the global cuteness rankings. Just behind Puppies and the hybrid, Punnies. Read more:Jaded

Fishing for the Elusive Franton Trout 2008-03-29 13:58:46 I'm minimizing my online persona. I just started realizing how little I use different sites, and how little they matter anyway.I've found my drawing style now. As I recently posted, I joined Threadless a few weeks back. Of course, I started submitting designs. Most of which were dropped early. And for the first time, I didn't care. Sure, effort is in everything I do and that hurt, but I had fun doing all that work. And if four hundred people don't like it; well, I'm fine with that.I'm not posting any of the voting badges here because, frankly, they're worthless. I remember one of the Threadless staff saying as much, although, not so bluntly. Maybe more bluntly, I don't know.According to a science article I recently read, there will come a time when there will be no stars in the Earth's sk Read more:Fishing
