FoundationsThe most common storage shed foundation are the wooden skid and the concrete slab.I built this storage shed on a skid foundation, it's easier and cheaper to construct, and it allows you to move the storage shed if you need to.How to build a storage shedMaterial for the foundation.2- 4x4x8 treated pine for the skids.2 2x4x8 treated pine for bands.7 2x4x93" treated pine for floor joist.2 3/4" plywood 4x8 for floor decking. I measured 7- 2x4 to 93" for floor joist and 2- 2x4x8 for bands.I cut 7 -2x4 to 93" for floor joist and 2- 2x4x8' for bandsPosition your joist approximately 16" apart.Nail through the bands and in to the end of the joist.Position your skids so joist hang over about 16" beyond the skids. I will be setting my storage shed on concrete bocks. If you want to set it down with no concrete blocks you should prepare a gravel base. To do this remove 4"of soil in an area about 12" wider and longer than your dimension of the storage shed. Fill in the area with 4" of

I used clamps to hold the doorjamb. The doorjamb should stick out 1/4" on top so the door will swing freely.Close the jambs up, so the door is laying flat.Lay a sheet of siding face down on your doorframe.Flush the bottom of the siding with the bottom of the door frame.Flush the edge of the siding with the edge of the door. If it is not square, square it now and nail through the siding into the door frame and door jamb. There will be a right and left door, when assembling remember there

How to Build a Storage shedBY: Daniel LazajBuilding your own storage shed can be a very uniquely satisfying process, not to mention the money you can save by building your own storage shed. Building a storage shed is alot easier than most people think. Building a storage shed does not require alot of skill, as much as patience. Measure twice and cut once, means be patient, take your time, and don't hurry. If you can use a hammer, saw and can follow step by step instructions, you can build your own storage shed. There are only a few common tools that are necessary to build a shed. Some of the tools require to build a storage shed would include a hammer, hand saw, measuring tape, pencil, rafter square, level, drill, and my favorite the miter saw. Precise cutting is made alot easier with a miter saw or a table saw. The cuts are made more quickly than by hand.If you need to buy tools buy them as you need them and avoid getting tools that you don't need or ones you will find you will never

Types of Storage Sheds
2007-05-26 10:47:00
Choosing the right type of storage shed depends on the building function, climate, and the architecture around you. The most common type:Gable roof storage shed- Widely used for its simplicity and adaptability to any climate. A gable has two equal pitches that meet at a center ridge.Gambrel roof storage shed- Gambrel is designed to look like a barn. There are two seperate pitches for both sides of the roof. The gambrel provides more useable space than most other storage sheds.Lean-to roof storage shed- Lean-to roof has a single slope from the front of the storage shed to the back. Choosing your Storage Shed Lumber
2007-05-25 20:37:00
Build your own Storage Shed - Choosing the LumberBy: Daniel lazajWood is the most common material for building your storage shed. When buying the lumber for your shed, inspect it for warping, twisting, or loose knots. Avoid buying unseasoned or green wood, it can shrink, and split as it dries.Kiln dried lumber is a good choice for framing your storage shed. It is kiln dried, and not as heavy as green, or unseasoned lumber. The better grades of kiln dried lumber won't crack, or twist, as bad as green, or unseasoned lumber. The grades of lumber most commonly used are 1, 2, 3, 4 common. No.4 common is the cheapest grade and usually has alot of open knots, and weak spots. For building most storage sheds No.2 offers the best quality and price.Preasure treated protects the wood from rot, decay, and insects. Preasure treated pine is stronger, and more durable than redwood or cedar, and it is also less expensive. If you use preasure treated wood to build your storage shed foundation, wear glove

A miter saw is a must have tool for anyone who enjoys making do it yourself projects. The price of a miter saw can be very affordable.
