Compare all the CMS’ you want! 2007-07-10 12:50:11
There are tons of Content Management Systems out there. From free applications such as WordPress to commercial versions such as RedDot CMS, it is hard to choose which one suits your individual needs. When deciding on your CMS, you need to keep track of certain criteria. Of course this is not an exhaustive list, but it should build the ground work for where you or your company needs to go:
1. Time: This includes time for installation, setting up and writing up the content to go into the CMS.
2. $$$: How much are you willing to pay for this application? This should also include the cost of having individuals enter in data, or the services the CMS providers provide.
3. The backend: Keep track of what sort of backend the CMS requires. If it needs MS SQL, then chances are you’ll need to pay for that sort of database and you can forget about hosting on a Linux OS, at least to my knowledge. You also need to keep track of the skillset required to install and maintain said CMS’

9 Essential Firefox Extensions for all Web Developers 2007-07-02 01:09:38 This list is by no way comprehensive (or new), but does list a few extensions that I found irreplaceable that you could use with your firefox browser.
1. Firebug
The first in the list is Firebug. Written by Joe Hewitt, Firebug has the ability of cutting down your coding time. You’ll no longer find yourself using the Error Console which is inbuilt in Firefox
, Firebug relays all the bugs that it can find, even on pages beyond the one you’re looking at (via Ajax). You can customize your firebug to work with only a few sites, you can preview the site and change the CSS on the fly. Of course that’s just scratching the surface.
2. MeasureIt
As a web designer, you must have had issues with certain images or layouts being off by just one pixel. In comes MeasureIt, a tool to measure the height and width of certain segments of the page.
3. ColorZilla
ColorZilla is a cool extension which allows you to check out colors using a color picker, or you can choose from an entire p Read more:Essential

Aqua Gloss Icons - The PSD 2007-07-17 00:16:11 This is not new… These GlossIcons
are one of a reason for a success to Dezinerfolio. The .PNG files were already here since a long time for download and we had also committed that we would provide the .PSD to anyone if they had requested and we had been sending these to all of them who had requested.
This was really bit a problem cos we were sending them trough mail… and because of too many requests we finally decided to put them here for direct download.
The .PSD is not only transparent but they are actually layered which means you could play around with every bit detail of each icon.
Transparent PNGs
PSD Source Files ( layered )
Set of 32 PNGs and 42 PSDs ( variations )

Orkut is more popular than FaceBook! 2007-07-20 07:00:41 Today we checked a comparison between 2 of the biggest social communities Orkut
and Facebook in Alexa.
We found out that Orkut has a higher reach over Facebook!
Another this that is surprising for us is that Orkut is more popular
in Brazil rather than the U.S. , where 68% of the traffic for Orkut comes from Brazil!
And the current Alexa rank for Orkut is 8 and Facebook is 13.
We are members of both the services and love them equally…

Creating Pool Balls - PSD 2007-07-25 14:04:25 Creating real life looking images in Photoshop is one side which we haven’t touched on. And here it goes now… These kind of images are simple to do but you need to give a thought around the lighting, shadows, colors…
Below are a bit real life looking Pool Balls
which are created using Photoshop from scratch. PSD below for download.
More than we explain how we do it, we would rather prefer you take a real look on the source file (below download) so that you understand them better.
Play around with the gradient on the elliptical base of each ball to get amazing results. You can find cool gradients of ours here .

Ext JS - Another neat JavaScript Library. 2007-07-25 13:29:25
ExtJS is a another JavaScriptLibrary
similar to Dojo and Rico, with an advantage of the design aspects and widgets that concentrate more on the UI, this library can be a designer’s favorite library.
The complete library with a whole lot of widgets after gzip can come down to 70KB, and is 136KB uncompressed. The library has its own forum and tutorials, and you too can post your tutorials on their site about Ext JS if you wish.
And still if you find tough to get through the tutorials, you have ScreenCasts to view and learn. Click here to view a demo of the UI components of Ext JS.
With ease of css styling, usability and its extensive list of UI components Ext JS can get designers too using such javascript frameworks…

Want our Sitemap ? 2007-07-30 00:35:17 Were you just wondering how we created our sitemap…. Well, this is not a Wordpress plugin. Its just a set of PHP snippets put together to generate the whole stuff. We first saw this on one Clazh ( by Arpit Jacob ) who recommended this to us.
This sitemap is called as the “XHTML Sitemap
” by Pearsonified. One of the main advantages of this would be the SEO which every Web Developer is hunting for…. The XHTML Sitmap can be easily integrated into any version of Wordpress above ver 2.1.
This is no complexity but as simple as firing some set of SQL Queries and returning a list of All internal pages, All internal blog posts, Monthly and Topical Archives and the available RSS Feeds.
Below is an online demo of the RAW content which will be generated using the XHTML Sitemap. Basically this is going to take the default styles from your CSS and they can be customized too…

and here is the link to the XHTML Sitemap on Pearsonified.

Sneak Peak at our Downloads 2007-08-01 01:31:13 Well…. First we would Thank all our Readers and Visitors who have been supporting us keep this blog running.
Recently we had added the Download section to Dezinerfolio which has all the possible downloads from our site. At this point we realized that we need to have a count of our Download and decided to add the Download Counter plugin from which the below screenshot is taken…
The highlighted ones are a few popular ones.
If you take a look at the above image, you will notice that the first counter was added on 7th June 2007. The Web 2.0 Layer Styles which went on DIG.com around 2 months ago brought us a lot of traffic, but we regret that we never added the download counter at that instant.
From 7th June 2007 till date (1st August 2007) this golden resource has been downloaded 24,871 times… but then imagine if we had the counter when this was on DIGG… ?
We hope every download on our site has been of some use to you and we promise that we will be coming up Read more:Downloads

df Javascript Smooth Scroll 2007-08-08 12:52:22 We are again back with another interesting miniature javascript called the “df Smooth Scroll
“. This script is also one of the smallest Smooth Scrolling Javascripts after our Simple Accordions.
Simplest to implement
One of the smallest Javascript 1024 bytes
Cross-Browser compatible
We always see that we have atleast one image on every post of ours… but for this script we were too confused to go about the image and finally put up the above one (sorry if it pains your eyes cos its motion blurred )
Usage: This script is too simple to understand and use. Nothing but playing with Anchor Tags. Include the Javascript and you are set to smoooooooooth scroll…

Dezinerfolio now on Media Temple 2007-08-22 01:14:44 Dezinerfolio was hosted on Bluehost all these time and we would like to say that we were very happy with Bluehost with its service but the only reason we now have shifted to Media Temple
(mt) is because Bluehost servers couldn’t keep up processing the number of requests we get per second.
We spent almost a week to decide the right hosting company, and now its Media Temple for us. Here is a little info about our new server:
GPU based processing - this allows to have spiked up processing if you suddenly get 1000’s of requests.
100 GB storage with 1TB bandwidth per month.
PHP5, MySql 4.1, PostgreSQL 7.4, Pearl, Python, and ruby on rails support.
Finally a really neat Account Center to manage your domains, databases, emails etc…
We hope Media Temple works good for us and we will continue to provide quality content over here…. Enjoy

URL blocked @ DIGG.com 2007-08-28 12:04:22 This is the first time we see this happen on DIGG. Some time ago one of our users had reported this but we never took it serious… but now, we are not sure whats happening. Below is the message by DIGG when we submit any article:
This error message shows up for any new link submitted to DIGG but the existing articles could be DUGG at anytime (articles on Dezinerfolio).
This is the only reason why we shifted our DIGG button to Design Float (a new DIGG like site for Design). We are also sure that we haven’t gone over the Digg’s Terms of Service as mentioned in the error. We also tried contacting DIGG, but no response yet.
We would highly appreciate feedback / comments on how we could overcome this and thanks is advance.

Simple and Effective Photographic Results for Beginners 2007-08-30 02:42:01
We know that the above image seems to be a bit confusing… We were just experimenting with Typography and came up with this crazy image. As the title says, here are a few extremely simple ways to enhance your photographs.
Levels (3) and Curves(4) the most common tools in Photoshop to enhance images. Thats why we choose some uncommon yet effective tools which is the Overlay(1) and Gradient Map(2).
1. Overlay
The overlay is the simplest and the easiest way to enhance almost all kinds of photographs.
Steps:
Duplicate the Layer
Gaussian Blur the duplicated layer (avg. range from 3 to 5)
Set the Layer Blending Mode to Overlay
Adjust Layer Opacity get cool results. (below images are set to 60%)
You can experiment with other Layer Blending Modes too.
.
2. Gradient Map ( Black and White )
Steps
Just one step - Apply the Gradient Map by choosing Image > Adjustments > Gradient Map. In the samples below - Left is the actual B&W image and Right is the enhanced image
