Yes, A Nice Front Door Makes All the Difference!
2007-06-19 09:00:00
Last night we had oven baked potatoes with onions for dinner... and this morning the aroma of onions still hung in the air. Candles had been lit, but I wanted to air out the house. I opened the patio doors and a couple windows, but really (for the the hundredth time since moving here) wished I had a different front door. One with a screen so I could open it to let in the fresh and sunshine

No Home... No Money... No Problem!?
2007-06-19 07:21:00
Obviously, every time we have moved to a new city or state we've had a home waiting for us and at least a little money in our pocket. Ok, when we were newlyweds and moving 2000 miles away from home to Southern California we almost didn't have a home waiting for us and we had very little money in our pockets... but I'll save that story for another day. LOL! But... what would you do if you were

The last two days I've found myself thinking a lot...
2007-06-18 17:18:00
The last two days I've found myself thinking a lot about my SIL and BIL that moved back to Florida about three weeks ago. We had salmon last night for dinner and I thought about how grilled seafood is just so 'Florida', and this morning in the shower I imagined that when I looked out the small window in the bathroom I could see palm tree's and palmetto's instead of corn and rooftops. I also

Refinancing Can Put More Money Back in Your Wallet
2007-06-18 17:05:00
I was thinking back to when we were preparing to buy our first home. It happened quickly as we were being transferred across the country and had expected to rent a house. The housing market was such that it was cheaper to buy a home than rent, by about $500 a month! Without much time to think or plan we were suddenly thrust into a world of qualifying for mortgages, looking for a home and

A Sad Sweetness
2007-06-18 15:25:00
I just shopped my local grocery store today. It's hard to do so, and I find myself smirking, deep breathing or just feeling sad as I walk around it. It's a small chain store, the only grocery that our current town offers. It's dark and dreary with a poor layout, ancient floor plan, limited items and higher prices than I could get if I drove 15 minutes to another city. But it's quick, it's

It's Still An Animal House Around Here
2007-06-18 14:00:00
In a way it's rather ironic that yesterday we said goodbye to a pet fish that has been with our family for 5 1/2 years (that is half of my youngest daughters life!) and today I see information about pet insurance I can tell you about. Oh, not that I would insure a Betta, but we are an 'animal house' (not like the movie!) and we have a plethera of critters around here including hermit crabs,

I hope it's not a dream come true!
2007-06-22 11:17:00
This morning over coffee my husband shared with me what he dreamed last night... not quite a nightmare, but not a good dream either! He had a dream that I sold our house... for less than half of what it's worth! LOL. No, we didn't have a place to live, no place to go and it wasn't listed but apparently I sold it and we were stuck. Poor guy woke up terrified it was true! Ha ha.

Look for Fun Before You Need To!
2007-06-21 22:09:00
Earlier tonight I was surfing a major realtor website looking at homes in North Carolina. No, we haven't gotten a relocation call yet, but I really do enjoy looking at housing all over the country in anticipation of our next move. I realized this is a good hint to pass along too. If you have nothing to do and want to surf online, the realtor sites are excellent for a plethera of reasons!

Taking Care of Event Registrations... (even while you sleep!)
2007-06-21 21:07:00
I recently resigned from my position where I worked for a well known organization as the Assistant Director, although I wore many hats that included book keeper, HR Resource, Marketing Director and Event Planner. Part of my job included large and small event planning. I oversaw all the events for the entire organization from the small monthly Board Meetings, the medium sized monthly Membership

An Instant 'Scrapbook' of Sorts!
2007-06-21 20:45:00
Today our town's 'resident guide' came out. What a shock to open the mailbox and see my daughters face staring back at me. You see, as I attended our cities events with my children I of course took photos. Only, back at the organization office I often found that when I requested photos of organization celebrations, events, awards banquets, parades or other articles of interest, there were no

A New School System? I Might Try Tutoring.
2007-06-21 17:12:00
I have mentioned in the past one of my fears (albeit a small one, it's still a fear) of moving, is that son struggles in school due to his almost 100% kinesthetic learning style so audio and visual learning (as in a traditional school setting) comes harder for him. Moving again means starting in a new school system and having to start from scratch on learning the best way to 're-teach' him at

Shop Those Clearance Deals!
2007-06-27 16:02:00
Earlier this week I talked about thinking outside the box when it comes to window treatments. I snapped a quick photo to show you the valances I currently have in my kitchen. The 'valance' is actually a napkin I found at a market here in the city on sale for 20% off. I loved the colors and it worked perfect with the rustic red I already had painted the walls. While shopping in Pier One for

Music Themed Rooms Need Posters!
2007-06-27 14:24:00
When we moved into our current home the basement was completely unfinished. When I decided to make it into a usable living space and move the big screen down there, I also decided to include what we call the "music room". This is an area where my husbands acoustic and electric guitars are on display, his amp and music are kept and where he practices in the evenings to wind down after work.

Be Creative with Window Treatments
2007-06-26 19:57:00
Today I was thinking about the different window treatments I've used in our homes and how I tend to stray from the typical 'valance' or 'curtain' that many people use. In our first home I used Irish linen napkins to form a triangle valance over the patio door and intertwined a garland of magnolia flowers in it. In our second home I left all fabric behind and used greenery on all the kitchen

New, Natural Skincare Products on the Market!
2007-06-26 18:35:00
In the blogosphere I've been hearing about a new line of skincare products called Arouge. It's an all natural product widely used in Japan and recently launched in the United States. Using nanomoisture to deliver healing moisture deeper into the skin, it lasts longer and heals from the inside out. They have a complete line for dry and Sensitive Skin that includes a make-up remover, face wash

My Moving Bible is Ready and Waiting
2007-06-26 18:25:00
Today I came across an empty and almost new notebook left over from the kids school supplies. At the same time I saw what I was looking for, a silver Sharpie marker. In a split second I made the decision to take a step forward in my belief that something is going to be happening pretty soon and I wrote the words "Moms Moving Bible" on the front of the navy blue notebook. I've talked about

Getting Maximum Impact from our Email Communications
2007-06-26 17:42:00
When our relocation comes through and we get settled into a new city I hope to find another position like the one I just resigned from. With the experience I gained working for my previous organization I am excited to bring that to the table of a new job. One of the big changes my previous co-worker and I brought to the organization was to bring them up to date on their electronic

Sadly, I bought landscaping materials today
2007-06-30 14:47:00
It is with a bit of sadness I bought 5 shrubs, 4 day lilies and 2 Mexican Heather plants today. Sad because as long as I refused to spend money or time on the backyard landscaping, I believed that my husband would actively work to get promoted or relocated. I was tired of looking at the plain rock surrounding our patio and I knew in my heart that I really needed to spend a little money to

Storage Boxes are Our Friends
2007-06-29 06:40:00
I love cooking and baking, and if you saw the thousands and thousands of recipes I have, you would know it. I have so many books, magazines, recipe boxes, handwritten notebooks and binders that I can't possibly keep them all out, so I store most of them and just switch out the books and files and boxes occasionally as I need or want them. Unfortunately for me the layout of our current house

I love buying new address labels!
2007-06-28 11:30:00
When we moved into our first home I remember how excited I was to order brand new address labels. I had the photo you see to your left made into labels and I absolutely loved them. Later I bought a stamp with cartoon stick figures of our family on it with our address and you would think that after so many moves, I would outgrow the excitement of new labels, but no... I never do. Even now,

Not Really a Crossroads... but it's a possible turn
2007-06-28 10:48:00
Yesterday while having morning coffee with my husband I asked him if he ever thought about the other two companies he was interested in when we accepted the position with this one about 2 1/2 years ago. He said it was funny, because he was just thinking about them this week himself. We didn't dwell on the subject, but it did make me wonder if perhaps he'll get into contact with them as we are

Who Knows What's Next?
2007-07-03 18:14:00
Today, for the first time in almost 3 years I actually spoke to my neighbor on the right side of us! I've often wanted to, but with her schedule and mine we just never, ever see each other. The first year we lived here I delivered Christmas goodies to all my neighbors as a way of getting to know them, but she was not home that night, just her husband. I didn't see her until that following

Fall Registration Came in the Mail This Week
2007-07-03 17:47:00
On Monday I received a big white envelope in the mail. Enclosed was the registration papers for the new school year starting this Fall. Ugh, it was just another reminder of how quickly summer is speeding by and how soon the first day of school will come! My 14 year old son will be starting high school this Fall and I'm dreading the amount of work we (yes we!) are going to have to do to help

I keep attempting to love this city.... but?
2007-07-02 08:13:00
Yesterday I was immersing myself in the city. A good friend called to ask what I was doing and asked if I wanted to head to the Annual Art Festival with her. We went to the Art Festival, which was 'fine' but tired of it quickly as we couldn't afford the $3,000 price tags for a piece of local talent. She asked if I had seen our 'new' (kazillion dollar) library? No. "There it is." "Where?" "

No Backup System?
2007-07-02 07:33:00
My laptop has been acting up a little bit lately. Nothing major, but it's showing me that it's not infallible and reminding me that backing up important files and programs is of utmost importance and not to 'put it off' or 'forget'. Whenever I think about backing up my personal files I think of my last employer and how, when I started working there I was shocked to discover that they had no

To Remember our Small Town Fireworks
2007-07-07 23:07:00
Tonight while sitting in the kitchen at the island I thought I heard the cats making a lot of noise in the hall. I turned my music down and listened only to realize the booms I was hearing didn't come from the cats, but from outside. Fireworks ! I peeked out the window and could see them being shot off at the park about a mile away. I grabbed my camera and went upstairs to the bedroom where I

The Plans Change Almost Daily!
2007-07-06 12:46:00
This morning my husband and I started a simple, innocent conversation and before I knew it we were in a long discussion about garage sales, and what we wanted and needed to get rid of, and how and when to do it and that we both hate them so much we really need a company transfer or relocation to light a fire under our butts to do it... and that we really can't get rid of all the things we want to

Being efficient and organized even AWAY from the office!
2007-07-06 12:22:00
There are quite a few things I miss about my old office and career since I resigned a couple months ago. My husband gets excited when he see's things like universal remotes, sound systems and large riding lawnmowers, but because I thrive on organization, storage, gadgets and other similar things, it's no wonder I fell in love with the idea of a portable scanner when I saw one on a website today

I know the kids love it here... but I soooo do not.
2007-07-05 10:11:00
Yesterday we hosted a small get-together of friends at our home. It was 90 degree's and oh-so-hot so we didn't start until 4:00 and even then stayed in the house for the most part until about 5:30. Food and great fun was had by all and I had moments and twinges of the warm fuzzy feeling of living in a nice neighborhood, in a small town, safe and clean and surrounded by relatively good people
