When you sit there and add up the cost... it's probably not a good sign
2007-06-03 05:17:00
Last night we attended my daughters dance recital. It's a rather large production, held in a major venue in a downtown location. We've been a 'dance' family for years. Coupled with our moving, that means we've been members of four (4) different dance studio's in two (2) different states over the past few years. We seen a lot of recitals... a lot of recitals. And last nights? The worst by

Saturday Coffee Talking... the Soap Opera Continues
2007-06-02 07:59:00
Coffee: Uh, Folgers. Mug: China cup and saucer This morning's coffee talk is pretty laid back and quiet. Oh, I read the news and got a little fired up, so I just stopped reading. One of the best quotes from the news was from a military vet who said something to the effect of "Can't we just exercise a little common sense before this turns into a circus?" Oh how those words could and

I almost forgot about the 'odd' (ghost?) thing from last night
2007-06-01 20:51:00
When you have strange things happen semi-regularly you sometimes forget about them quickly. I almost forgot to blog about last night. I went up to bed last night and read my book for a bit before turning out the lights to sleep. I turned it off and rolled over on my side, fluffed my pillow and snuggled down to sleep. In less than a minute my bed was jarred as if someone had run into it or

THIS ADVERTISEMENT DRIVES ME INSANE!
2007-06-01 19:06:00
This advertisement is currently (often) on my email page and it drives me CRAZY! Why? Because my friends, I am a zit popper. I love popping zits. LOVE IT. I always have. I never had zit's or acne as a teen and I remember I used to go insane sitting next to some kid in high school and seeing a huge zit ready to burst, and not being able to pop it. Yes, I know I'm weird... I don't care.

Friday Night Posts are Getting to be Typical
2007-06-01 18:00:00
It's 6:00 on a Friday ... do you know where your children are? Man, it seems like just last week my kids were all shorter than me, they were still asking me for drinks of water, I had to help brush their teeth, and Friday nights meant Mommy and kids watching Sabrina the Teenaged Witch and Boy Meets World. It's a Friday. Two of the three tower over me, they get their own water, I haven't

Mortgage information... in plain black and white
2007-06-01 16:56:00
Sometimes you hear of a great little restaurant with wonderful food, that is so unobtrusive, so 'hidden in plain sight' that you could miss it easily. You walk by and don't notice it because there's nothing fancy or eye catching about it. Instead, the owners put all their work into the food, not the marketing. They'll get around to the decor and the eye catching signage, but until then, they

To recap for those checking in for the first time today
2007-06-07 16:44:00
Another busy day at the Coffeehaus! Well, the rain did not fall as it was supposed to. Instead the sun came out and it was a hot one, but the oooo the wind. A strong, nasty hot wind that has all but killed my poor little pea's. Between the Rabbits and the wind my garden is going to be ruined! My Fish is actually half heartedly swimming right now (if you can call the limp, hop thing he does

You May Not Even Know You Are in Need of It
2007-06-07 15:56:00
On a website I found this code; SHX OGUONPR ZI RWP MAEJ ZUSBO-VCJSFPX OPKJCBLUSBP SGDURMPR. So using an online code breaker site I deciphered it to read; SPY SWEEPER IS THE MOST AWARD-WINNING ANTISPYWARE SOFTWARE. Ok, so someone in their marketing department was obviously just trying to have some fun with the nosey geeks like me who felt compelled to decipher the code, but the message is a

Damn Rabbits
2007-06-07 15:18:00
Hi. Nice to meet you. I apologize for the way I look. I haven't always looked this bad. As a matter of fact, yesterday I had a beautiful head of hair. It was long and green and leafy. I was growing so strong! Then, during the night, I had a visitor. Damn rabbits. That lady comes and stares at me and my friends every day had had us all covered with netting, but we were so big and strong that the

You mean, all kids don't grow up playing with night vision goggles and handcuffs?
2007-06-07 14:06:00
My Dad was a cop and my mother, a sheriff's deputy. We grew up with a healthy respect for guns, and playing with handcuff's like other kids played with slinky's. It's probably no wonder that at least one of us four kids went into the miliary and two of my brothers are avid hunters. Because of this assortment of careers and hobbies my own children have grown up surrounded by things like

Thursday Coffee Talk
2007-06-07 12:28:00
Well, this morning I don't have much to say. I woke this morning and came down to have coffee and read the news. I kept glancing at the clock and wondering why I didn't hear BabyGirl up as she told me last night she had to babysit today at 8:am. Finally at 7:54 I went to wake her. Sure enough, she overslept. Luckily she babysits just about 2 blocks away so she made it on time. That, so far

I Seem To Have New Neighbors... Kind Of
2007-06-07 12:22:00
My husband and I were commenting that we've noticed the neighbors in back of us seem to have 3 new adults living with them. Assuming at first they were just visiting, it's been a few weeks and they are still there. Their new 'housemates' seemed to move in right when their two-year tax abatement was up and their housing payment would have jumped about $450 a month more so I'm wondering if

2007-06-06 22:00:00
Quote from Rob Lowe, who was in town today participating in a golf tournament. "That's my birdie," Lowe said after looking at the bird, which lay motionless on the ground. "That's unbelievable. Who comes here and kills the state bird? Only me." Yes, it's true. He hit his ball, it flew into the air and hit our state bird. LOL.

Dang I Love my Teenager
2007-06-06 21:56:00
CK: S says I should ask her out. Me: A!? No! CK: Why? Me: Because! She's a slut. Ck: Why do you say that? Me: Who did she date last? CK: J... he's going into 10th grade this year. He was a 9th grader last year. Me: EXACTLY! CK: Mmm. Well, So? Me: So... she's a slut. CK: Based on what? Me: The way she dresses, the way she acts. I don't approve. CK: Everyone in our school dresses

The Smell of Report Cards Are in the Air!
2007-06-06 21:44:00
Some of my closest (friends) readers are from Texas, Maryland, California, Georgia and Illinois, so I want to give a shout out to them about the availability of Score Centers in their area. About this time of year the school year is ending and you are receiving report cards in the mail. If you are like me you are looking at the next couple months of 'down time' and wondering if perhaps your

Quick Decor Idea!
2007-06-06 18:42:00
In our current home there is a built in space for a tv that looked strange left open, and we started to use it for storage of VHS tapes, home movies and all the board games we have. I didn't think it looked very nice left open so I brainstormed a few ways of 'covering' it. I went into the basement and saw my material tote full of left over and remenant fabrics. When I opened it up I found

My Economic Development Background Makes me Excited About Maps
2007-06-06 18:08:00
When I resigned from my position and left in March, I tried to say little about my position to keep my job anonymous in the internet world. I can share that a lot of what I did (especially the last six months that I covered my co-workers position) was deal with economic development and worked closely with city management and real estate developers, financial institutions and business owners. A

I actually watched a movie today!
2007-06-06 17:53:00
Today the friend of my son left his movie here. Since I was doing dishes and no one else was home I popped it into the laptop and watched while I loaded the dish washer and then sat down with a box of Peanut Butter Crunch cereal and munched while I watched the rest. It was a good movie - funny! It is Epic Movie. It's one of those similar to Hot Shots and Hot Shots Part Deux (Duh!) that fits

We Have a Popular Family Room!
2007-06-06 17:08:00
It's been a busy house today. I woke up with 2 extra teenagers sleeping overnight in the basement, having came over to watch movies last night on the big screen downstairs. After I took them home this morning my other daughter had 4 friends over for an afternoon of karaoke, movies and video games. Later she and 1 friend played video games and then her brother and his friend took over the

Maybe Someday...
2007-06-06 12:26:00
A lot of my friends (readers of this blog!) have asked me why I don't start a business of my own doing catering or cooking of some sort. After I resigned from my job in January I certainly thought about (as I have a kazillion times in the last 10 years!) but it's just so overwhelming to even know where to start! I don't even know the difference between the little acronyms and business

How can you invent something that already exists?
2007-06-06 12:15:00
Ok - I'm clueless. I was just reading the news and saw that some students in Amsterdam had 'invent ed' a powdered alcohol. It's like Kool-Aid. It's lime flavored and colored and you just add water. It has a 3 percent alcohol factor. Also, because it is in powdered form it can legally be sold to kids! Crazy huh? But of course I'm also thinking, cool - I'll have to try some of that! LOL.

Don't Stand So Close To Me....
2007-06-06 11:51:00
Last night while driving, I had the radio on but was only half way listening when I hear the DJ say "The Reunited Police". I guess it caught me off guard because the way he said it made it sound like that was their new name or something, LOL. He went on to mention their new tour and their new police cd. I have this little quirk in my brain that whenever I hear the word "The Police" or see a

Wild Card Wednesday - In Honor of Large Families
2007-06-06 11:09:00
My "Wild Card Wednesday " offering is a very, very edited version of a photo of a family I just adore. They live in one of the many previous cities/states we used to live in. You all know my love and respect of 'large' families. With just three kids, I don't consider our family large at all. We are just a weenie sized family. Over the years I've become friends with many 'large' families..

Thinking back to the scariest thing that has happened to me
2007-06-06 10:58:00
When I saw the trailer for the 1408 Movie I started to think about the scariest unexplained 'incident' that's happened in my life. I think I've mentioned it before, but it was when we lived in an apartment in Nashville, Tennessee. The apartments were about 35 years old and had undergone some renovations over the years. They used to have a long hallway going from one end of the building to

Yawn... Is it Wednesday? I'm so messed up.
2007-06-06 07:20:00
One of the strange things about not working at the office anymore is my ability to forget what day it is. To add to my confusion, my husband doesn't work a typical schedule like most men. He works odd shifts, holidays and yes, weekends. So his days off might be a Tuesday and a Wednesday verses Saturday and Sunday. But even that changes. Yesterday, had I been asked, I wouldn't have hesitated

Open Memo To Paris
2007-06-05 21:47:00
Dear Best Friend Paris , I was so glad to see this mornings headline news that you were 'doing ok' after your first night in jail. Seriously girlfriend, you were right up there in the news with a foiled suicide bomber attempt in Iraq and Castro and even the Vatican. So, I saw on the drudge report today that, like, staph infections at the jail that you are serving at are apparently running

Do I LOOK like a people person?
2007-06-05 21:18:00
As Coffeehusband and I sit on the patio and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the fire burn in the firepit, we discuss the merits of putting in a 6 foot privacy fence around our yard when the silence is broken by our neighbors' penis dog and their voices calling to her. CH: "Are they out?" Me: "I think they are out on their patio. Oh gosh... I hope they don't come over here. I can just

Stephen King Does It Again!
2007-06-05 18:01:00
When I went to bed last night the previous nights 'interesting' occurances were fresh in my brain. As I turned out the light and snuggled down into the covers I waited to see if there would be any odd happenings but other than a loud crash in the area near my husbands dresser, it was not followed by anything and I fell asleep peacefully. While some readers have commented they wouldn't be able

You're Going to Have Fun Even If I Have to Make You!
2007-06-05 13:29:00
This morning Coffeegirl was going to do some babysitting for Iowa Geek. I had been wanting to swing into a nature trail/boat launch area and check it out, and it was on the way to Iowa Geeks house so I told her I'd bring Coffeegirl and meet her there. Since it was Coffeehusbands day 'off' I decided he would go with me. He didn't seem thrilled when I told him he was going to accompany me...
