Chock Full of Nuts... or words. Yes, I'm chock full of words this morning....
2007-05-27 08:36:00
... and I don't even know what exactly that means and I don't believe I've ever used the phrase 'chock' full of anything before. It's a first for me. Although I could have written my Coffee Talk post at 2:30 am, I didn't have a whole lot to say. I did visit a lot of your blogs though! I noticed that most people obviously have a 'family life' and are too busy on Memorial Day Weekend to do

S-L-O-W
2007-05-15 14:09:00
I'm noticing blogger is loading slllloooowwwwly for me today. Frustrating to me because it's already a cold rainy day here and I'm not in the best of moods. Remember? I'm a sunshine person! I must have the sun!! (Which is why I should never, ever more to Seattle.) Because it's dreary out... and dreary in... I'm not in the mood to clean or do laundry and I'm spending an awful lot of time

I have just got to stop reading the news... that's all there is to it!
2007-06-01 07:14:00
I was reading the news this morning and got frustrated with the stupidity of people again. I have got to stop reading the news! Parents that don't have their 7 year old children wear seatbelts and crash and the child is killed. Babysitters that fall asleep while toddlers drown in the pond in the yard. An 18 month old boy closes himself up in the dishwasher and dies when it starts. And the

You'll never guess what I just watched.....
2007-05-31 21:51:00
I just finished watching the pilot episode of the orginal Charlies Angels. Circa September, 1976 baybee! Wow. The pilot was an episode called "Hell Rider" and the acting was so incredibly bad, no... horrible, that Coffeehusband and I just laughed through the whole thing. I can't believe how much I used to love this show. My cousins and I used to play Charlies Angels. I was Jill for the

Just Rambling over a Cafe' Americano
2007-05-31 16:09:00
Warning: The lemon cheesecake bars I posted below? Highly addictive. You've been warned. Now don't come complaining to me when you've eaten (literally) half the pan after you've made them. (You think I jest. You would be wrong.) This week is 'dance recital' week. The big huge busy crazy week of insane practices downtown in the 'city' - you know, the place I hate to drive because

Remember back when it was hard to build credit?
2007-05-31 15:12:00
I was married in 1988 (why yes, I was just a teeny bopper, but most of you already knew that!). Being married at 18 and moving 2000 miles from home to Southern California with no job, no furniture, nothing but the clothes on our back, we had to start from scratch. The frustrating thing was that we couldn't even rent an apartment without 'credit ' and we couldn't open a credit card without '

The Cheesecake Bars are done....
2007-05-31 15:08:00
My daughter has been bugging me to make cheesecake, but my son wants cookies. Me? I wanted to make.... NOTHING. I'm just in a funk this week and really don't care. So I gave in and make cheesecake bars - hopefully I can make everyone happy. And I'm happy because they are so easy. Cheesecake Bars (EASY!) 1 box yellow cake mix (dry) 1 egg 1/3 c oil Mix until crumbly. Save 1/2 cup out and

Something for Nothing
2007-05-31 14:37:00
Glancing around the internet this afternoon it seems I'm not the only blogger with little or nothing to blog about. No news is good news though, right? So... while my cheesecake bars are baking I'm going to send you over to a site where you can almost literally get something for nothing. Well, almost nothing. Pennies. Something for pennies. But you don't actually pay the pennies... you

It's just THAT KIND OF DAY!
2007-05-31 11:27:00
It's spelled m-a-r-s-h-m-a-l-l-o-w. With an "A" not an "E". The marsh is not mellow. If your child is over 2 years, just say 2 years. Or two-and-a-half. Or even worse, 3. If you have a 3 year old PLEASE SAY 3 YEAR OLD. Do not tell me your child is 39 months old. You are a freak. Are you still using months to describe how old YOU are too? And no, I don't think your kid is cute. Stop talking

Biting my tongue until it bleeds
2007-05-31 08:07:00
"....... The FDA ruling means that Cervarix will have to go through a standard 10-month review, instead of a fast-track process that would have accelerated the approval and marketing of the vaccine in the key U.S. market." I am trying to bite my tongue but I just have to say... 10 MONTHS is the "long" review? They are willing to put new drugs out there that haven't even gone through a 1

Awww... a cute baby. But who is she?
2007-05-31 05:58:00
This morning I was clicking through some of my photos on the laptop and came across my file titled "FRIENDS". Inside are photos of friends, obviously, but also sometimes I also save photos that I've stumbled up on in my old hometown newspaper of friends I knew in high school, or photos that my best friend sends me to say "Oh, here is a picture of so-and-so". Well, I have to admit that

"Do You Want Fries With That?" Is a much easier question!
2007-05-30 21:08:00
When our family takes vacations we typically drive, as the cost of flying and renting a car is cost prohibitive. Because we rarely rent a car, the last time my husband and I went to Florida on our own without the children we rented a car and when they asked if we wanted rental insurance we just stood there and looked at each other. We didn't know. We had never thought about it before! When it

Who was it that wanted the Cruller recipe?
2007-05-30 19:10:00
A couple weeks ago I was lamenting the loss of the Cruller and said I was going to try to track down an authentic recipe to make my own. I don't remember who it was that also wanted it, but after wading through more-than-I-ever-thought-possible, I finally found one that I am taping up to my cupboard (the inside of the cupboard of course... so it doesn't look tacky!) and hoping to make asap.

A Boy and His Toys....
2007-05-30 18:36:00
Some wives are proud to say they are married to a geek. Now what kind of geek is up for discussion. One of my friends has a husband who is a movie geek. Another, a Sci-Fi Geek. Still another is a computer geek and another is a book/intellectual geek. My geek? He would be a cell phone geek. Not the 'cellphone' itself, but the cell phone accessories. When we were on a business/leisure

Do you think he has..... ummm... issues?
2007-05-30 18:30:00
I'm no stranger to tattoo's... I have one on my ankle and my husband has his back done with the serpent from the old Asia album cover and a Minnesota Viking on one arm and two clashing skulls on the other... so it's not like I'm a tattoo prude, right? And piercings? I took my daughter to get her belly button pierced when she was 14 so again... not a prude. But uh, hello? Why in the world

A Fellow Bloggers College Bill was a Wake Up Call to Me!
2007-05-30 18:11:00
The other day I was emailing back and forth with one of my blog readers and they mentioned they had about $160,000 in student loans they would be paying off over the next few years. This was a real wake up call for me because I suddenly realized that I have a daughter who is going off to college in just two years! My daughter does not currently have plans to enroll in medical school, so I don't

Wild Card Wednesday
2007-05-30 12:46:00
Wild Card Wednesday ... the rules are made up and the points don't matter! TKW has nothing better to do on Wednesdays than post a photo of 'something' and call it 'good'. Since there is no theme, you just find a photo to post and if it happens to start with the letter "W" or have something to do with a "W" then you get extra non-existent points. I went through my "Junk" photo file and saw this

Taking the Pain out of Writing that Monthly Check
2007-05-30 12:35:00
I just finished writing the check out for our car insurance premium, which we pay monthly as opposed to every three or six months, simply because it's easier for us to budget that way. It's interesting to think back over the course of our marriage what we paid for car insurance in each state or city, and what cars we drove at the time. There are so many different factors that go into how much

Pomegranate Tea and Porn
2007-05-29 20:55:00
Today I made 4 pillows for the 2 patio benches. When I sewed them I made sure to make ties out of contrasting fabric and attached them in the seam so I can tie them to the bench. We are right next to a corn field and the wind coming off the field is insane. My pillows would fly to the houses behind by morning had I not remembered to sew ties. You can tell I've not painted the wrought iron

Healing our Mind, Body and Spirit
2007-05-29 14:13:00
It's taken a few thousand years but experts are finally figuring out there is a difference between men and women. Differences in how we handle pain, how we multi-task, how we read other peoples body language... there are deep differences that they are just now admitting that maybe we aren't all created equal after all. Something good that is starting to come from this new enlightened way of

A Story in the fact there is No Story?
2007-06-04 15:51:00
As twisted as it sounds, I think there is a story in the fact that there is no story to tell after a back to back visit to both Walmart and Target. I attribute this to a couple of things; My Walmart is perhaps one of the only ones that a minivan is the lowest class of vehicle you'll find parked in the parking lot. My vehicle was surrounded by Mercedes and BMW's.It has a white picket fence

The First Day of Summer
2007-06-04 10:16:00
Truly a beautiful morning... complete with a blue sky, birds singing and a slight breeze that smells fabulous. A little bit rocky start for a couple of my family members. Coffeehusband told me he 'opens' this morning so I thought that meant he had to be there by 6:am. I woke up this morning at 5:24 am and had to say "Honey, did you have to open today?" Of course that makes him bolt upright

The Tale of the Lost Earring
2007-06-04 09:41:00
Up until a few years ago I was never a 'jewelry kind of girl'. Some women are born with the shopping, shoes, purse and jewelry gene... I was not. (Or if I was, it was soon sucked into a vortex with the birth of 3 brothers and being raised in a mostly male household!) But soon the female diamond gene started to come to the surface and a few years ago my husband bought me a pair of diamond

Another Recipe for My Readers
2007-06-03 20:00:00
Pumpkin Mousse. My only admonishment to you is this; Please pronunciate your words clearly when announcing what you will be serving for dessert when you make it. *Some people* might hear wrong and look bewildered and confused when they think you just announced you are serving Pumpkin Juice for the evenings dessert. Simple and delicious... Pumpkin Mousse.

The Coolest Father's Day Gift for an Astronomer
2007-06-03 18:15:00
If you have a Father 's Day gift to buy for someone who is either an astronomer at heart, or even just interested in learning about the night sky or just loves new little electronic gadgets, I found the coolest 'gadget' ever! It's called a MySKY and it's a handheld 'point-and-shoot' guide that looks remarkably similar to a ray gun on Star Wars. You just aim the guide at the star, planet,

My brain is Googling
2007-06-03 18:01:00
I just need to lament something here. Back in 1999 I was sitting at the computer in my little house in Minneapolis and I mentioned in passing, to my husband that there was a website I really thought was great. I could find almost anything on the web with it. (Of course the web was like, way small back then too but nevermind). I said; "Honey, it's a site called Google and it would be a

I'm Pretty Sure There's a Law Against That Today....
2007-06-03 17:43:00
Coffeehusband and I were just sitting here talking about our days of living in Southern California when we were first married. He used to work for a major retailer down there and on nights when they would pull an "all nighter" the manager would drive his car up through the big front door and pull it backwards to park inbetween two registers. He'd pop the trunk open and the back would be full

Boy Who Is A Friend ... deserves a medal
2007-06-03 05:28:00
God Bless that young man. Yes, the Boy That Is A Friend came to the recital last night. He sat through a 4 hour recital (yes, FOUR, I KNOW! It was insane.) just to see her on stage about 3 times. What is that? About 8 minutes? I felt so awful for him. He even bought her a rose to give to her after the show. Then he brought her home afterwards. And they aren't even dating yet!
