Embarrassingly Simple?
2007-05-25 20:13:00
Tonight my husband was working and the kids were all out with friends when dinner time rolled around. Not in the mood for a 'meal' I grabbed some parmesan and garlic baked pita chips and ate a couple before I decided to make a 'meal' out of them and call it 'good'. It's something I have all the time but it's so simple I can hardly call it a recipe! Putting my embarrassment aside, I'll share

Where Did your Orange Juice Come From This Morning?
2007-05-25 16:27:00
When people think of Florida the first thing they may picture are the white Florida sands and the ocean. Tourism is a huge industry for the state, but did you also know that Florida's agriculture industry generates 87 billion dollars for the state per year!? In general the farmer seems to be a quiet guy, working in the background to feed our country, but if you watch this video you can see

Easy Shrimp Alfredo
2007-05-25 16:18:00
I made the easiest and most delicious dinner two nights ago and we finished the leftovers last night. It was a simple shrimp alfredo dish that anyone can make, but it looks and tastes like spent hours. My kids really love this dish and hope yours will too. 1 lb. raw shrimp, shelled and deviened 2 T olive oil 4 cloves garlic, minced 2 T dried parsley Cook the shrimp over medium high heat in a

A Great Summer Program Idea
2007-05-25 16:07:00
A large portion of my readers of this blog are parents. As parents, we want only the best for our kids and we always strive to help them stay healthy, be smart and achieve success. As summer approaches, many parents are looking into summer camps and classes for their kids. Instead of a traditional camp or local pottery classes, a great idea is to utilize on on of the Score Learning Center

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookie
2007-05-25 16:00:00
When I want to make a basic sugar cookie that will be cut out and frosted, I have a handful I choose from. This particular recipe has been used by me personally for at least 9 years now. Old Fashioned Sugar Cookie 3/4 c sugar 6 T butter 1/3 c shortening 1 egg 1 T milk 1 t vanilla 2 c flour 1 1/2 t baking powder 1/4 t salt Cream the sugar, butter and shortening until fluffy. Add the egg,

Improving our Husbands Health
2007-05-24 23:47:00
As a wife and a mother it's always been my job to look out for my family. I cook healthy foods and shop for healthy snacks for all of us, but as my husband and I entered our thirties, I realized how important it was to watch out for the health of our cardiovascular system and build our bodies defense against free radicals that can damage cells and speed up the aging process. What surprised me

A Great Find for Baking!
2007-05-24 16:48:00
Today I made a trek to Costco and ever-mindful of careful spending in that place (they can soooo trick you into spending a gazillion dollars on things you don't need or that aren't any cheaper than the local grocery) they have an awesome buy on flour - twenty five pounds of flour for under five bucks! $4.95. Awesome deal when you go through as much flour as I do! Now, one of your first

Garlic Bubble Bread
2007-05-23 15:32:00
Although I started to make this regularly about 12 years ago, I have to admit that in the past few years I've gotten out of the habit and my oldest daughter has asking about it! Today I'm finally going to make her happy. I planned on making shrimp alfredo for dinner so Garlic Bubble Bread would go perfect with it. It's also very easy to make, and perfect for any "little hands" that want to

I Need Motivation
2007-05-23 13:38:00
Although I'm still cooking and baking every day for my family and I still love to browse through the recipes, I have to admit that I'm losing all my motivation. I'm living in a city and state I don't care for, but I was promised when we moved here it would be for less than 18 months, probably about 9-12. My kitchen isn't laid out the way I would, like the appliances are not what I want and

Helpful Hint for Recipe Lovers
2007-05-22 22:18:00
Just a note: Keep your digital camera with you at all times! I always have my camera with me. I actually carry a backpack (I'm not a purse kind of girl) and I specifically chose my last two for the sole purpose that they had 2 pockets on the outside, easily accessible for me to put my cellphone and my camera. Over the past two years of dentist, doctor, orthodontic and other appointments

Caramel Rolls
2007-05-22 14:33:00
My kids love when I get time to make them homemade cinnamon or caramel rolls for breakfast. I suppose I could always buy the canned kind, or even cheat by using frozen bread dough, but there is something wonderful about starting from scratch and making them yourself. This recipe is coming to you from my cousin. She included it in a family cookbook we published a few years ago and they are a

RV travel can bring the world to your door step
2007-05-22 13:00:00
In the past eighteen (18) years we have lived, literally all over the country. From the midwest to the pacific coast, to the South, then up to the North, just a hop, skip and jump from the Canadian border and then to the midwest again! Yes it's a busy life, but we LOVE LOVE LOVE it for many reasons, not the least of which is being introduced to different foods and gathering recipes and cooking

Homemade Grape Nuts
2007-05-22 12:54:00
Back in the 70's people started to eat healthier and a large population of the country went all 'let's get back to nature'. Communes, sharing, living off the land and such. This recipe came out of that era. I found it years and years ago, and I have had it in my files for so long I don't even remember where it first came from! But I do love store bought Grape Nuts, and if I can make them for

It's like Craigslist for the UK
2007-05-22 12:28:00
I just finished baking a bunch of cookies and sat down with my laptop and a cup of coffee to surf online and get some ideas on what to do with a wooden bench I'm refinishing. I told one of my friends I wanted to finish it on a 'zero' budget and I only had two gallons of a pale yellow paint to work with. She suggested I go to an online site like craigslist or freecycle to either look for paint

Can we talk Lasik for just one second?
2007-05-22 10:32:00
My regular readers will recall that we have talked about Lasik surgery a couple times on my blogs. I have a numer of readers that have mentioned they hope to have it done within the next year or two. Something we've never really mentioned is that there are a small number of people that have Lasik Complications. According to USAEyes, fewer than 3% of eye surgery patients have unresolved

Food and Drink go Hand in Hand
2007-05-21 11:26:00
Food and drink go hand in hand so I am always happy to pass on any thoughts or information related to either. This time around, let's think about the 'drink' part. For readers that live in the San Diego area (waving at Steve, Cary and Jeffrey!) or anyone who may be visiting the area in the near future and knows they are going to be living it up with good food, good friends and good drink, you

Most of have such busy lives that there are times we want to watch a show or movie on tv and know we can't be there to, so we set our recorder to watch it later. Only many times, due to the lifestyles we lead, we often find we don't even have time to watch the recorded version! Well, someone finally figured out how to make a converter and you can now transfer your recorded shows, or even your

French Pastries are Calling My Name
2007-05-17 14:08:00
Even though I don't generally like sweets, I do get a craving every once in a while for a good French pastry. It seems I may get a chance to taste the real thing next Spring when I accompany my daughter on a school sponsored trip to Paris, France. We travelled to Rome, Italy last Spring and one of the greatest helps we had was when we were able to have a guide of any sort for the city and

A Shout Out for Movie Coming Your Way
2007-05-16 14:20:00
There is a bug movie coming out next month that looked interesting, but I wasn't really sure what it was about when I saw the posters. I had to watch the trailer (here) to get an understanding of what this "bug movie" was about. The two posters they released are as different as night and day, which I find interesting. When I saw the one with Ashley Judd's face I thought it would be a

No Excuse for Getting Lost in London!
2007-05-15 14:39:00
I know from my site stats that I have visitors here from all over the world. Sometimes I like to tell my readers about special offers and this time I have one for the readers in the UK this time. A few years ago I used to live in Southern California. One of the things every California invested it was a Thomas Guide. It was basically a spiral binder of maps that everyone used so they always

Just In Case You Haven't Heard...
2007-05-10 20:33:00
I just got done telling my husband about this online site and he, who doesn't know anything about computers, websites or internet... had heard of it! Just in case you haven't though I need to share the info. We all know how ebay works. You find something you like, you bid, and the highest bidder wins. Now, imagine a website that has prizes that you find and bid... and the lowest bid wins.

Chocolate Thumbprints
2007-05-28 10:43:00
Grandmothers everywhere have made Thumbprint cookies at the holidays (and other times!). I think they are an excellent cookie and I love to make them with raspberry or cherry preserves. However when I stumbled across a chocolate version, I knew I had a hit on my hands with my family! Sure enough, when I first made these back around 2000 (?) it was requested I add them to my annual Christmas

"Why don't you start your own business?"
2007-05-28 08:44:00
About once a week I get an email or comment sent to me asking me why I don't do one of two of things. 1) Publish my own cookbook or 2) Open my own catering company. In my everyday life I have people ask me this at least once or twice a month. My love of food, recipes, cooking, baking and the results of that interest must shine through my personality and the fruits of my labor! Truthfully

Homemade Lavender Bubble Bath
2007-05-26 11:04:00
When we lived in Southern Minnesota our home was landscaped by the previous owners. One of the plants we inherited was a walkway lined with lavender. Boy was I surprised to see how quickly it grows and spreads! It was a wonderful addition to our bathroom in both sprigs for decor (hang upside in a bunch and tie with rustic cord, twine or ribbon) and also to sprinkle the purple flowers in your

Moisturizing Cream & Body Lotion
2006-12-10 12:32:00
Some day you are going to find me (hopefully) on a couple acres of land, barefoot, in a long white skirt with my hair braided down my back. I'm going to be gathering eggs from the chickens and then I'm walking into the house to continue whipping up some homemade lotions, bath scrubs and bath fizzies. I'll do this inbetween making my homemade soap and baking the bread. When I need a break I'll

Warning: Highly addictive. You have been warned. Do not come crying to me when you have eaten half the pan after making them. (You think I jest? You would be wrong.) They are. That. Good.
