Black Bean Salsa 2007-05-31 08:47:00 I haven't tried this one yet, as it uses dried beans and I typically buy my black beans in the can (quick and easy!). I made one similar using canned beans that I thought was pretty good, but it used prepared salsa in place of the tomatoes and chilies. I am anxious to try this one because I think it will have a fresher flavor.

Almond Sour Cream Cake 2007-05-31 08:43:00 Almond is one of my favorite flavors. When I saw this recipe I had to copy it down, as I think the almond, milk and sour cream is going to make for an awesome cake. The original recipe called for 2 t vanilla and 2 t almond but I love love love almond cake and almond muffins so I removed the vanilla and made it 4 teaspoons of almond instead. Also, it called for 1/4 c oil. However, with the Read more:Almond

Original Crullers 2007-05-30 19:15:00 On one of my other blogs I was lamenting the loss of the Cruller from Dunkin' Donuts and the fact that Krispy Kreme donuts do not even make a real cruller. They make their regular yeasty yuck donuts into a cruller shape and sell it under the name cruller... thereby confusing and ruining the real cruller for an entire generation of young people that will grow up thinking that poor pile of muck is Read more:Original
Steak Marinades 2007-05-29 22:25:00 I believe I've posted my regular steak marinade recipe on this blog previously but tonight I stumbled upon one that is almost exactly like mine, but for the addition of vinegar to it. I'm thinking this would be a good marinade for a cheaper cut of meat because the vinegar would help break it down and make it tender.
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar

Tupperware Chef's Seasoning Blends? 2007-06-04 09:14:00 I readily admit I'm not a fan of the various "home parties" held in surburban neighborhoods around the country. I'm not really sure why, as I do like the products and I always have fun once I'm there, but getting myself to commit to going is a hurdle I usually don't bother getting over. I guess I go to about 50% of them and just 'place an order' with the other 50% either online or by phone.
Easy and Delicious Pumpkin Mousse 2007-06-03 19:47:00 Tonight we had oven baked tilapia, broccoli with lemon pepper seasoning and a last minute dessert I whipped up by combining three different recipes that I found in cookbooks as well as my own 'winging it' on what I knew my family's tastes were. (You all know by now that I never, ever follow a recipe directly!) I have now a simple, quick and delicious mousse to share with you all.

Buffalo Onions 2007-06-07 17:24:00 In our household we love almost anything that is hot and spicy! I've served buffalo wings and chicken for many years so even our kids eat (and prefer) hot and spicy over sweet sauces. Onions
are a favorite of mine and my youngest daughter and just the thought of these makes my mouth water!

Don't Let Spyware Ruin your Computer or Your Life 2007-06-07 15:32:00 I've found in my internet surfing that recipe, cooking and family sites seem to have a higher number of visitors that aren't computer saavy and perhaps only use the internet for email and to post and find recipes. Because of this, I thought my recipe site would be a good place to reach some readers that may be experiencing issues with their computers that can be attributed to spyware, even if Read more:Spyware

Coconut Gelato 2007-06-07 12:16:00 When I travelled to Italy last year I had the best gelato I've ever tasted. I ordered two flavors, pistachio and coconut. It was heavenly. I've been wanting to make it since I've returned home but it always slips my mind or I don't have the ingredients on hand. (I don't regularly buy nor keep Cream of Coconut on hand). I'm determined to make this in the next few weeks on a hot and sunny Read more:Gelato
Online Color Pages for Older Kids 2007-06-07 11:17:00 I'm going to pass this information along because so many of my readers have pre-teen and teen girls. I have two daughters and they love to find sites online that allow you to build dolls, change clothes, do online makeup and hair styles, make-overs and almost anything that is creative and geared towards 'girls'. One of the programs my kids have always loved is software that let's you take a Read more:Color

Crab Cakes 2007-06-07 07:18:00 I am always on the look out for the absolute perfect crab cake. I've found a few over the years that were good, a couple that were great, but I've never found one that made the skies part, the sun shine and a chorus of angels sing. (Ok I've HAD crab cakes that did that - at one particular restaurant we visit every year in Myrtle Beach, SC - but haven't yet found my own perfect receipe for them Read more:Cakes
Enjoying a Glass of Wine and The Police Playing on the Computer 2007-06-06 20:44:00 Win a New York fly-away to see The Police

I currently have "Every Breath You Take" playing on my computer and I can't help but smile. I love this song! Just hearing it almost takes my breath away as I'm instantly transported back in time to being about 13 years old. Simplified Chicken with Sour Cream Mushroom Sauce 2007-06-06 16:55:00 The way I usually make this dish involves rolling up a chicken breast with ham inside and wrapping the bacon around the outside (recipe is on this site). However sometimes I don't have the time or energy and other times I use frozen chicken breasts or the kind that do not roll up very well. For whatever reason, I tweaked the recipe to make it quicker and easier... but still with the same great Read more:Chicken

Saving for Future 2007-06-05 23:05:00 I keep trying and trying to find 'just the perfect' speghetti sauce. So far I've not found it, but tonight I found two recipes online that are being raved about by people who have tried them. Noting them for future reference.

Fellow Horror Fans... Take Note! 2007-06-05 18:32:00 I'm going to take a moment to help spread the word of an awesome movie coming out that I cannot wait to see. The 1408 Movie is by horror novelist Stephen King, and you have to live under a rock if you haven't heard of him. As I sit here, I'm trying to remember when I read my first Stephen King horror novel and what it was. I cannot for the life of me remember, as I have read almost
Onion Roasted Potatoes 2007-06-05 14:43:00 Honestly I wonder if I even have to list this one, as it's not even a real recipe. It's so easy it's a great recipe to have your 3 year old help you make. We had steak on the grill last night and as I looked at the potatoes in the pantry I suddenly remembered this 'recipe' and that I hadn't made it in a long time. I started making this recipe about 13 years ago and my entire family loves it. Read more:Roasted
Three P Salad 2007-06-05 14:37:00 I found an old cookbook that my elementary school had put out years ago as a fundraiser. While flipping through it I spied a salad I don't remember seeing in there before, but as I'm not a real 'salad' person I guess I skip that chapter most of the time! It was strange sounding to me, so I turned the internet to look it up and see if anyone else truly made (and ate!) this salad. Well, there Read more:Three

Homemade Rolls (Buns) 2007-06-05 09:17:00 I've never been good at kneading my bread dough so about 10 years ago when I got a bread machine I became one of the happiest housewives around. I finally got a loaf of bread to rise and bake beautifully from scratch. I never actually bake the bread in the bread machine, as I don't like the shape of the loaf and it just isn't the same to me... but I use it to knead the dough. When I want to Read more:Rolls
Layered Fudge Cake 2007-06-10 15:30:00 Sometimes I jot down recipes by hand or take a photo of them when I'm sitting in the waiting room of a dentist or doctors office, or even having my car fixed at the dealership. Other times I scribbed down (by hand) a recipe I see online but I don't have my printer hooked up to my laptop at the moment... still other times I get recipes from friends and family. I don't always jot down where I got
The One Thing I Didn't Remember on My Trip to Italy 2007-06-10 13:51:00 I was looking over some photos on my laptop yesterday and came across the file of pictures we took on our trip to Italy
last Spring. I have photos of my first official Italian cappuccino, my very first gelato and one of me holding up four fingers as I started my fourth course of authentic italian pizza (they serve four different kinds of pizza, one after the other as the meal). It was just my Read more:Thing

Sunday Morning Waffles 2007-06-10 08:46:00 As I sit here sipping my coffee I'm also making fresh waffles for my youngest daughter and her friend who I think will be waking up soon. I was wondering (to myself) if I posted my waffle recipe on my site yet... I'm sure I have... but I was going to check to make sure. In the meantime I realized while making it that I didn't have a few of the ingredients called for so, as usual (for me anyway Read more:Sunday

Homemade Rice Mixes 2007-06-08 17:43:00 When dinner is almost ready and I'm in a pinch for a last minute side dish I like to grab a box of Rice-A-Roni or similar. For the money they can't be beat, as I've been able to get them on sale for about a dollar each. However, I love to find ways of making my own mixes from scratch and if they taste just as good and can be made for less, then I'm happy. I found these mixes in various places Read more:Mixes
A Clean Cut Site Design Helps to Sell the Product 2007-06-08 16:16:00 From time to time I'm contacted to do product and/or site reviews for various companies or websites. I'm always happy to do so because I know from my own experience over the past ten years that building websites, staring at the same graphics for hours at a time and looking at the site day after day you don't really see it anymore and it's good to have fresh eyes look at it.
I checked out the Read more:Clean
The Worlds Best Cole Slaw 2007-06-08 09:18:00 The sun is out and it feels almost 'summery', maybe that is why I'm suddenly craving good southern fried chicken, cole slaw and biscuits. Mmmm. Just the thought of it makes my mouth water.
I started making this cole slaw in 1993 when we lived in Nashville, TN. My handwritten recipe card is actually yellowed with age by now... which doesn't make me feel very good! LOL. I also notice that I Read more:Worlds
Lemon Upside Down Cake 2007-06-08 09:09:00 Sometimes I post recipes on my site that I haven't tried yet, but I don't want to 'lose' them so I put them here to hold. This is one of them. I don't have a skillet that I can make this in, so I would probably use a different heavy pan and play with the recipe a bit, but I'm a big fan of lemon and I like the idea behind this one. Will hold it here for future reference and future 'tweaking'. Read more:Lemon
Baked Jalapeno Poppers 2007-06-13 08:13:00 Jalapeno Poppers are one of my all time favorite foods. I can't even buy boxes of them at the grocery store because if they are in my freezer, they are made immediately and I eat the whole box. I love them! Because of the cost I have made them at home a few times, but one of my pet peeves is 'breading' things. I don't like the dipping in the egg mixture and then the crumb mixture. I hate Read more:Baked
Duh! Why Didn't I think of This Before? 2007-06-13 07:42:00 Sometimes I just want to thunk myself on the head for not think
ing of something sooner that in the end, was so obvious. This morning is one of those times. Do you know that Amazon offers grocery delivery that you can set up on a regular basis? So really, you never truly need to run out of bread, milk, coffee or even diapers or formula! (Major duh moment for me here). I have a shipment of
Cereal Bars 2007-06-13 07:32:00 This is a recipe I've been making for about 12 years now. It's one of those classic recipes your family knows, loves and can't get enough of. I started to make it for one reason; to use up the cereal left in the bottom of the packages that never seems to get eaten. And because the kids loved them so much we've been making them ever since. (Even when we don't have to use up the last of cereal Read more:Cereal
When Counting Every Calorie or Carb... 2007-06-13 06:48:00 A few years ago I had some health issues that I resolved by following a strict diet. It was before we had the products, information, websites and recipes that are available today so I struggled to find and add up all the nutrients as well as the carbohydrate values, caloric values and sizes. I started to keep a notebook with pencil and paper of the foods I had already figured the nutrient Read more:Counting
