Google to Reveal Fastest Growing 100 Search Terms Daily 2007-05-22 04:39:21 Google Inc. introduced a feature that tracks the 100 fastest-gaining U.S. Web queries, an effort by the most-popular search engine to give a snapshot of what Internet users are looking for. Google Hot Trends provides a list of the search terms, updated several times a day, the company said in an e-mailed statement. Users will also be able to see old lists going back to May 15.
The feature is part of Google Trends, a Web site released last year that can chart and compare the popularity of search terms over time. Customers will be able to see news stories, Web log postings and search results for each query on the lists. Before today, Google had released a manually compiled weekly list of the hottest search terms called the Google Zeitgeist.

Compete Rankings: New in Firefox Toolbar 2007-05-20 17:02:02 If you use the “Search Status” add-on for Firefox
, you may have noticed recently that the developer has added a new web ranking site to the toolbar. Compete
.com rankings have been added to the toolbar to offer a more diverse and broad ranking system to give a more precise picture of a site’s traffic. Compete ranks websites much like Alexa and gives reports on estimated traffic a site gets. They monitor what sites users of their toolbar are visiting and then estimate based on various methods to determine the amount a traffic a site receives.
If you do not use the toolbar you can still visit their site and get traffic reports on several sites at a time for free. They claim that thier statistics are much more precise than those of Comscore and Hitwise, but yet they give out all their reports for free. (example screenshot below)

Interview with Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales 2007-05-18 15:25:39 This interview with Wikipedia
founder Jimmy Wales
is one of the better ones I have seen come from Wallstrip. The guy is actually pretty funny. Video: 3 mins.
Jimmy Wales on Wallstrip says that making Wikipedia a non-profit was either the smartest thing he’s done or the dumbest and admits that if it were a for profit business it would be “worth billions”.

Turn Any PC into a Web Host 2007-05-17 01:16:15 Purplenova.com is offering an app for download that allows anyone that owns a computer that is connected to the internet to host files. By making content web-accessible directly from where it resides, Purplenova 3.0 provides an alternative to hosting with Hosting Services, ISPs or Blog sites. Purplenova makes this possible by providing users with a static IP address, generally individual PC’s have a dynamic address meaning that it changes each time it connects to the internet therefore making it impossible to host files. Here are a few of the features they offer.
Securely Communicate, Share or Publish Files – Simply designate the files with a mouse click and send URLs to the readers. No matter how large the file, they can stream it off your computer through any browser. You can publish the URLs on Blogs and Forums too.
Host Web-sites and Web Services – Use standard Web Servers such as IIS and Apache to host from your computer, and make your web sites / web services globally Read more:Web Host

They offer statistics that derive from questions you answer from your recent flights, what model of car you have and how far you drive a year, and your monthly bill for heat, electricity, etc.. Chief Executive of Zerofootprint, Ron Dembo said, ” This is serious software, serious quantitative methods and social networking technology brought to the green world … and this is a tool that can potentially enable a really massive carbon footprint reduction.”

Myspace Layouts: Simple is Better! 2007-06-07 13:21:00 A recent front page story on Digg by Mashable about better Myspace Layouts
inspired me to share with you my feelings and experiences on the subject of myspace design. First off back in 2004 when myspace began to gain momentum everyone and their brother was wondering why I had not yet joined, well to say the least I hated it and swore it off forever. I opted for Facebook instead as I was in college and the majority of my friends were there, plus I liked the clean design and more professional atmosphere. Well to help reinforce myspace’s world domination I joined two years later as almost everyone else I knew had joined, so of course I had to too. Yes they told me to jump off a bridge and I did it. Anyway I was never satisfied with the presentation of the myspace default layout and I would never put blinking banners and countless videos on my page so I just put in a little css to get to the point where it looked ok, but I still wasnt happy with it.
Well yesterday I saw a pos Read more:Simple
Trooker: Video Aggregate 2007-06-07 12:59:04 Trooker comes to us via Stumble Upon and it’s an interesting stumble to say the least. The site is a video aggregate of most of the popular video sites out there. Their service allows searches that scour Myspace, Youtube, Metacafe, Live video and Daily Motion to give you just the video you were looking for. Other than being a search engine for videos that all play on their homepage, they also allow what they call “trooking” which basically equates to live chatting about a video. You can also send single videos or entire sets of videos you find interesting to friends and then follow up with some reviews or random chatter via their instant messaging service.
They also allow embedding of single videos or sets of videos. So if you have 3 or 4 videos you want to put on your myspace page but don’t want to take up the space that youtube does, combine them in trooker and have a cleaner page. (screen shot below)

Techcrunch Owns “Flicker” Competitor 2007-06-19 14:16:51 In a recent post on Techcruch, site founder Micheal Arrington just unleashes on an unexpecting new start-up.
Apparently someone affiliated (Maura Landry) with the new dead pool member start-up Panraven submitted a story to Techcrunch hoping to get some press. Well things could not have gone worse. The start-up is a Flickr competitor that claims to be killing them, but in the email they spell Flickr as Flicker with an E. Well for some reason Mr. Arrington has issues with adding &ldquo
;e’s&rdquo
; by accident, probably an over site considering the person spelled the word by the dictionary. But in Micheal’s defense it is a corporation and thier name is spelled “Flickr” but come on, why ream the guy for the misspelling. Its the internet people spell almost everything worng;). Techcrunch’s post are not immaculate either so who knows why he freaked on that one.
Then to add to the start-up’s misery the Techcrunch founder heads over to the site to check i

New Face of Apple Deemed “iLoser” 2007-06-28 15:12:25 A New York highway maintenance worker has found himself as a new internet celebrity as the new face for the forthcoming Apple
iPhone, although he has been named iLoser by many. His claim to fame? He was the first in line at the New York Apple store in hopes of receiving the first iPhone. He set up camp outside the store on Monday June 25th a full 120hrs early! When asked by a reporter &ldquo
;Whats the first thing you are gonna do when you get your iPhone?&rdquo
;, the most clever thing iLoser could come with to say was “uhhh I’m gonna play with it.” If I was Apple it would be a free iPhone for this toolbox just to get him away from my store.
Anyhow since the launch of the iPhone is just over 24hrs away we thought we would share the latest headlines with you. Enjoy.
