Coyotes in New Canaan 2007-06-17 16:04:00 Just witnessed the weirdest thing. I was outside gardening when a bunch of crows started heavily cawing and moving slowly tree to tree. Eventually, I saw them chasing off a medium-sized brownish canine which looked awfully like a coyote with its tail between its legs.
Since we have a couple of toddlers, I suddenly remembered that poor child that was attacked by a coyote recently in New Jersey. Read more:Coyotes
New Canaan Animal Control 2007-06-21 23:01:00 Just got an email from New Canaan's AnimalControl
Officer, Maryann Kleinschmitt. Maryann was quick to respond to my coyote question so I want to return the favor. She is looking for people to join the New Canaan Animal Response Team and she states the following:
I just checked out your Blog what a great way to get New Canaan Info out! Perhaps you can post on your Blog the New Canaan Animal
New Canaan Train Noise 2007-06-21 22:43:00 Just got an email from Dave who wanted to highlight the problem of excessive train noise in New Canaan.
I am a proponent of the "Quiet Zone" for New Canaan...this has been put forth by a number of us who reside near train crossings in town and want to see them go silent. This is doable, because A. Train
s move slowly toward the end of the line, B. All crossings are now gated (they haven't always Read more:Noise
New Canaan & Alternative Energy 2007-06-25 21:09:00 Since I am interesting in cutting our dependence on foreign oil & global warming, I wanted to see what Judy Neville (New Canaan's First Selectwoman) and Jeb Walker (her opponent) had to say about alternative energy.
Judy did not respond - perhaps she thinks that she does not need to respond to the voters since she is already in power. Maybe she will after that snide remark. :)
Jeb stated the Read more:Alternative

Train Delays & New Canaan 2007-06-27 22:10:00 I hope you survived the various train delays today caused by the power outage in New York City. Despite flashbacks about the massive blackout from a few years ago and the total shutdown of our region's mass transit system, Metro-North was able to get the trains running again without too many problems.
Remember you can get the latest service announcements (i.e. train delays) on my New Canaan Read more:Train

Family Fourth Update 2007-07-04 12:47:00 According to the New Canaan townhall website, the "Fireworks for tonight have been cancelled and rescheduled for Sunday due to impeding storms".
Moreover according to the New Canaan Advertiser, "Citing forecasts of storms this evening, the Family

Family Fourth & Bad Weather 2007-07-04 09:39:00 The weather is not looking great for the July 4th festivities in New Canaan. Hopefully things clear up. Right now some weather sites are predicting rain this afternoon.
If the Family
Fourth is postponed due to rain, the "make-up" day is on Sunday July 8.
You can keep up to speed with the New Canaan weather by visiting this page on our website.

New Canaan & Coyotes - Part 3 2007-07-03 19:55:00 Following up on my coyotes in New Canaan commentary, I would like to point out an article in the New York Times today called "Unwelcome Neighbors Tracked in Westchester". It describes various attacks on pets in neighboring Westchester. In addition, the article gives a good description of a coyote's appearance and habits. Here is a link to the article.
This is hopefully my last comment on Read more:Coyotes
New Canaan Fireworks on July 8th 2007-07-07 22:19:00 Remember tomorrow (Sunday) is the make-up day for the postponed July 4th fireworks celebration in New Canaan. The gates to Waveny Park will open at 5 pm and don't forget to bring your pass.
Sunday is supposed to be great but very hot (see our weather page for the latest update) so bring your sunscreen and a lot of cool drinks.
There will be skydivers, a band, refreshments (but it is probably Read more:Fireworks
New Canaan Fair and Sidewalk Sale 2007-07-06 04:09:00 I just received a great question from Robin. She asked the following:
Would you happen to know if the New Canaan street fair is scheduled for this summer? I remember attending it in the past in July. I can't find any mention of it anywhere. Thanks for any info you have. Robin
According to the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce, the New Canaan Fair and Sidewalk
Sale will be held on July 21, 2007
New Canaan Family Fourth - After Action Report 2007-07-09 18:39:00 Last night's fireworks were... as my oldest son kept saying for most of the evening... AWESOME! Overall, the New Canaan Family
Fourth (well this year, it was the Eighth) was very well done with things like EMT personnel roaming about to make sure everyone was okay, floodlights to help people exit the park and a free rubberized playground for the smaller kids. However, my only complaint was the Read more:Action
New Canaan Bagels 2007-07-13 20:44:00 Since my boys & I go out to get bagels & donuts every Sunday, I thought that I would list my favorite bagel stops in New Canaan. Therefore if you are searching for bagels this weekend, you can try the following stores in New Canaan:
1. Bruegger's (11 South Avenue) - Good bagels & they have a wide variety of cream cheeses.
2. Connecticut Muffins (108 Main Street) - I like their bagels & they have
New Canaan Sidewalk Fair 2007-07-19 19:17:00 Don't forget that the New Canaan Fair and Sidewalk
Sale will be held this Saturday (from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm) in downtown New Canaan.
My family always has fun at this fair as we get a chance to eat, shop, play and browse. My boys liked last year's fire truck exhibit and the free balloons.
For a full description, please read my July 6 posting.
Hope to see you there!

New Canaan "Lifestyle" 2007-07-21 07:15:00 Since New Canaan is a very wealthy & yuppie town, you might get a laugh out of this video called "Tea Partay" from Smirnoff (who is trying to promote their Raw Tea product). The video focuses on a bunch of rich preppies rapping (who I could easily imagine walking the streets of New Canaan). Quite funny. Thanks Linda for pointing it out.

New Canaan Answer Book 2007-07-24 19:13:00 The New Canaan Advertiser puts out a great booklet every year called the "New Canaan Answer Book". It provides answers to thousands of New Canaan-related questions such as "Does the town pick up leaves?", "What houses of worship are in town?", "How many people live in New Canaan?" and "Where can I go swimming?".
You should definitely keep the hard copy when it comes out in April. Or you can
Thali New Canaan 2007-07-29 15:34:00 We just had brunch at Thali in New Canaan. This the only Indian food restaurant in town.
About 90% of the customers were Indians and this is usually a good sign. However, we were a little disappointed with the food. The vegetable dishes were good but the meat dishes were over-spiced.
The service was very friendly and the price was okay. My kids liked the tropical fish aquarium and the overhead

Tequila Mockingbird - New Canaan Restaurant 2007-08-14 18:31:00 Over the weekend, my family & I had dinner at TequilaMockingbird
in New Canaan, CT. This restaurant focuses on Mexican food and is a fun place for a night out with the kids.
You have to love this restaurant just for its name. I am sure that I am stating the obvious but it is a twist on "To Kill a Mockingbird".
Their food is good (but not great). The atmosphere is fun & the service is very
Solutions for America - Lower Corporate Taxes 2007-09-02 06:03:00 While I try to focus this blog on New Canaan, I will occasionally rant about a variety of things like the economy. I care deeply about the future of America
and I don't want America to go the way of the British Empire - slowly fading into obscurity.
I work on Wall Street and when I listen to quarterly conference calls, I am sickened by the many CEOs and CFOs who take great pride in outsourcing Read more:Lower

New Canaan & Wall Street 2007-09-01 07:06:00 Since so many people in New Canaan work on Wall Street
, I thought that I would put up a page where you can find information regarding today's stock market performance. This financial page is for those of us lacking sophisticated neuro-linked algorithm-based financial software packages. :) Just in time to watch the sub-prime meltdown & its impact on the market. New Canaan - Deer Problem 2007-09-08 07:39:00 We have a deer problem in New Canaan.
First of all, we are seeing a surge in car accidents caused by cars & deer colliding. This is resulting in injuries and expensive car repairs.
We are also experiencing an increase in the number of people (especially children) being infected with Lyme disease (carried by deer ticks). As you know, Lyme disease is a serious issue because victims can come down Read more:Problem

New Canaan Democrats 2007-10-07 09:59:00 I just got this email from Bob Manjoney, Site Developer/Hines and Rashin For a Better New Canaan.
This message announces that http://www.hinesrashin.org has gone live as of August 9th, 2007. This is the campaign site for Democrats

New Canaan Nature Center's Fall Fair - Part 2 2007-10-14 15:35:00 I hope you enjoyed the Nature Center
's Fall Fair, my family & I had fun. However, while I know it is for a good cause, I felt kind of ripped off on the event tickets (i.e. $3 per child to go down an inflated slide). Also they need to design a better parking scheme because someone is going to get hurt (cars are forced to park for miles on the sides of a fairly busy street).

New Canaan & Third Party Politics 2007-10-21 15:54:00 Got a message from Richard Stowe who is running for the New Canaan First Selectman position. He is not running as a Republican or as a Democrat but under the New Canaan Party
