A Week in Payroll
Dear Reader,
This week's UK payroll news highlights HMRC's response to our suggestion that the new NICs avoidance regulations should make the requirement to recalculate SMP and the other statutory payments clearer.
We also visit the Isle of Man, where the Income Tax Division has published a consultation document about the taxation of pension schemes.
And our Payroll Tip discusses the effects on SMP for employees with more than one employment.
Finally, Softworld HR & Payroll 2006 Exhibition took place in Birmingham this week. Click here to see the photo highlights.

Do you live in Jersey? If so, you may soon be entitled to a higher minimum wage. The current minimum wage is being reviewed, and the Employment Forum would like your input. Be sure to read this item to find out how you can have your say.
Also this week, we have a second installment on the week 53 processing at the end of this tax year. This item on PAYE procedures features an enquiry made to HMRC by Ian Congreave. And this week's Payroll Tip continues last week's theme by discussing time off with pay guidance for employees who are at risk from hazardous substances at work.

Dear Reader,
This week we visit the grave of the Home Computing Initiative and take a look at some of the schemes lining up to replace it. If you are looking at the Home Training Initiative, you need to be aware of the potential flaws.
Also in this issue, we cover six other news items (including a WTD complaint from a German doctor) and take an in-depth look at the tax and NICs liabilities that arise when employers pay fixed parking penalties or parking fines.
