Controversial Topics
2007-04-24 18:24:00
I think I know why traffic here is so slow. I'm not controversial. I don't post or, more importantly, argue my personal views on politics, religion, or anything else that could remotely be considered a "hot topic". I don't post anything revealing. Not about me and not about my family. I shy away from mentioning work. I avoid bad-mouthing people if I can. I rarely rant. What I do post are updates

Bits of trivia
2007-05-01 18:55:00
So, the hubby started a blog! I'm surprised and curious. I wonder what he's going to post over there...better not be complaining about his perfect, sweet little wifey poo. But why would he? It's hard to grump about perfection. (~wink~) Nah, I'm sure there will be pictures of brew pots and grain and beer bottling systems. Maybe a picture of two of the latest hunt or catch. I also thought

The Beginning of Baseball
2007-05-03 18:33:00
If I haven't mentioned it before, the hubby is coaching the our oldest son's baseball team again this year. He got the roster last week and set up practices for this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each night the kids are supposed to practice for one and a half hours. He wasn't this aggressive last year in practice, but last year the kids weren't pitching to each other, able to steal bases, or

It's Saturday...but I'm at work.
2007-05-12 18:01:00
Yep, that's right. I'm at work today. Mother's Day weekend and I'm sitting in a computer lab proctoring a TOEFL exam for 14 students. On the brighter side, I'm getting paid overtime for three hours and I was able to work on the budget. But there's only so much I can do away from my desk, so now I'm browsing websites and thinking about working on the WIP.

Snippet - Vampire Romance

NOTICE: This material is copyrighted, first draft, full of typos, and possibly not even going to be in the final draft. Do not quote or repost anywhere or in any format. Thanks. My Villian
2007-05-11 02:59:00
I am the world's worst plotter. I started my vampire romance with really only a general idea of where I wanted to go and how I intended to get there. I knew my two main protags, but very little about my villian. I figured I'd worry about him (or her) when I got to him (or her). And here I am. My villian's name is Aedan. He's one of those fallen angel/vampire types. Very sexy and dangerous (how

Friday Snippet - Fallen Angel
2007-05-18 19:03:00
This snippet is from my vampire romance, recently renamed to Fallen Angel. Allow me to give you just a little set-up before you begin reading. My hero, Professor Gabe Anderson, had his first published work hit the shelves a week ago. It's a novel about a succubus and her path to redemption. Something that came to him in fits and starts through his dreams. Yet, eventually he was able to piece it

Dancing Debut
2007-05-17 05:27:00
My four-year-old niece had her dancing debut tonight. And let me just say she was beyond precious! She was a duck with little yellow feathers ruffled around her behind and gracing the little orange-billed cap on her head. So cute! (Yes, you're going to need to forgive some gushing.) When my sister called to confirm that I still wanted my ticket--as if I'd suddenly change my mind!--she warned me

Monday Update
2007-05-21 19:47:00
Another weekend come and gone. I hardly remember Friday night. I know I went shopping for my nephew's birthday the next day. Of course, that was after I picked up the munchkins from daycare. The hubby...was..helping Phil with his truck. Okay, so it's starting to come back to me now. Geesh. It was only a few days ago! Saturday I had - as you might have guessed - a birthday party to

This snippet is actually from the chapter before last week's snippet. ...this is what happens when you begin re-reading your rough draft material. The End of a Season
2007-05-24 20:42:00
Well, the boys had their last soccer game tonight. This is a huge relief. While I love watching them play, it becomes a bit hectic when two different sports overlap. Finishing up soccer means I only have to worry about baseball/t-ball now. My oldest boy had a great time at his last game of the spring season. The coaches agreed to play "just for fun". Each coach played goalie and every kid

WIP Progressing
2007-05-24 04:53:00
I've been feeling rather motivated lately when it comes to my writing. I've actually been working on it a little each day. Of course when I say "a little", I really mean a little. Our nights are tied up with tutoring, baseball, soccer, and t-ball right now. Every night this week = running the roads. Oh, and running the roads = lots of gas, which = no money! Of course, we all know those

Memorial Day Weekend
2007-05-29 05:03:00
We went camping, of course! What else do you do on Memorial Weekend ? We went to Covenant Campground, which is a whole 3 miles from home. I know that sounds lame, but at least we weren't hanging around the house with a five-mile-long to-do list! Instead, we were trapped for half of the time inside the camper with restless children. Michigan + Memorial Day Weekend = Rain. Still, we had a

0 for 2
2007-06-01 08:12:00
I'm on a roll. In the last 24 hours I have done two completely hare-brained things. First, yesterday morning before I left for work I was putting the finishing touches on a cup of chai and had to rinse my spoon. Once my travel mug was ready to go, I turned off the kitchen lights and closed the door behind me. Notice what I didn't shut off? That's right. The water. The tap water ran for 10 hours

Sex at the Library
2007-06-05 21:46:00
Ha! Bet that got your attention! But, it's not what you think. The hubby and I didn't shock all the patrons by stripping down and getting busy on the nearest table. I'm talking about the story I was working on during my weekly visit to the library. I believe I've mentioned before that I actually enjoy my nine-year-old's tutoring sessions at the library. During these hour and a half sessions I

Strawberries
2007-06-04 19:32:00
There's a picture of my little guy next to my strawberry patch. We're both very excited that the patch is doing so great. He makes a point of checking for newly ripe berries every night after we get home from the daily grind. A few days ago we had a few berries that were on the verge of being ready to eat. They looked something like this: Two days later I have a plentiful handful of

Sex Scene: Attempt #2
2007-06-06 21:44:00
I really thought I was done with that particular scene. So, into the library I went with my laptop in tow, ready to move forward with the story. However, when I opened the WIP, I realized my characters weren't quite through with each other yet. The first half of the scene was told just from my heroine's POV: her senses, her emotions, her desires. After re-reading what I had written the time

Home from the Campground
2007-06-10 13:39:00
One of my favorite things to do while camping is to read. Just sitting in a comfy chair with plenty of leisure time, a paperback in hand, and something cold to drink within reach make for a perfect combo. Okay, so maybe some chocolate would really make for perfection. This weekend my reading plans were continually derailed, though. I may have managed to read about a hundred pages at the

2007 Copyright Krista HeiserThis is a rough draft, likely full of typos, poor word choices, and certainly not guaranteed to make it into the final version. Please do not reproduce it or claim it for yourself. Nothing Much to Report
2007-06-14 06:07:00
Really, I mean it. Life is pretty much work, sports, tutoring, and falling asleep way too late to get up when the alarm clock starts its annoying beeping at 5:10am. I have been writing, but the going is slow and I have nothing exciting to report. I have not been exercising. Or watching what I eat. (I think I may need shock therapy in order to get properly motivated!) See...I told you

Creative Alliance Open Mic Night
2007-06-16 22:03:00
Last night was one of those rare evenings when I didn't have to rush from work to the daycare. The hubby had taken the day off to go golfing. Afterwards he decided to pick up the boys early and take them fishing on the Reservoir. This meant I didn't have to worry about being Mommy for a few hours. I could do whatever I wanted! I had to return some books I had borrowed from my mom. We

10 Year Anniversary
2007-06-26 15:02:00
While I was on vacation last week I missed the dinner party celebrating my 10th year at the University. Ten. Years. Dang! There are days when it feels much longer. A lifetime really. Then there are days when it seems impossible. How could ten years have slipped by without my noticing? Of course, this little delusion is quickly dispelled by the sight of my 9-year-old son, the child I

Three books, the beach, and time with the kids.
2007-06-25 11:12:00
That pretty much sums up my vacation last week. I took the boys RVing at nearby campground, one close enough to home that the hubby could still camp and go to work each day. He'd get up and shower, shave, and make his coffee at the crack of dawn and we'd blissfully sleep through it all. The kids let me sleep in almost every morning. It was lovely. The days were spent mostly at the beach. While

The Hubby Made it Home
2007-07-01 21:38:00
As the title of this post implies, my hubby made it safely home from Boulder, Colorado. His plane came in on Friday. I got out of work, ran to the airport, and sat reading my book while I waited for his plane arrive. I really didn't have to wait too terribly long. The funniest thing was that he noticed other familiar faces and walked right by me. I had to holler a couple of times to get his

Microsoft OneNote
2007-07-04 08:14:00
Before I discovered Microsoft OneNote, which comes packaged with Office 2007, I was using NewNovelist-Version 2. Now, I've always been fond of NewNovelist, but it has its drawbacks. For instance, I started writing my story within the word processing portion of NewNovelist only to discover the export function did not work quite as well as the program claimed. I could export only so many pages.

Lovin' the Wrong Guy
2007-07-11 12:08:00
Okay, so I'm working on this story of mine and I realize I'm really loving my villian. He's fun to write. He's dangerous and sexy, which are great combos in a vampire romance, but not when the man in question is the villian! My hero in this story, an average Joe, really, doesn't inspire me quite as much as Aedan Breese. Is this a problem? Well. Yes and no. I say no becuase my average Joe is

Yesterday's Progress: 1,821 words That brings the grand total for Fallen Angel up to 39,483. I'm hoping to break 41K tonight. Wish me luck! Update: I managed to get more words on the page. Unfortunatley, I missed the 41K goal. Grand Total now at 40,388. If I didn't have to go to bed, I'd push on through, but work comes too early.

I'm in! For details on the challenge, you'll need to check out Alison Kent's blog. If I haven't totally misunderstood the rules, I can participate even though my book is already in progress. If I can't officially participate, that's okay, too. I can still meet the goal of finishing my rough draft of Fallen Angel by September 20, 2007. Here's my starting out details: Title: Fallen Angel Hero:

Happy Belated Independence Day! My nephew in the parade Now, this may come as a surprise (only if you haven't been paying attention!), but the family and I went camping over the 4th of July weekend. We pulled out of our driveway around noon on Wednesday for a brief road trip. The kids had just enough time between destinations to watch Bridge to Teribithia on the portable DVD players. The long
