Busy 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Work has been insane this week. Not a surprise when you consider it's the first week of class. Students are scrambling to get into this course or that course, no one can find their classroom, faculty are making some final touches on their syllabi or other handouts, and the phones ring off the hook. Familiar chaos but still chaos.
From the student perspective, I had my first class today and,
The Cat's Gone Missing 1970-01-01 00:59:59 If you happen to see our Heidi-Cat, please send her home. My husband last remembers seeing her on Christmas morning. She's an outside cat but she scratches at the porch door every morning to get fed and has never disappeared for more than a day or two. We're beginning to fear the worst. Yes, the picture is over a year old, but it was the best one I have of her! Read more:Missing
Referrals 1970-01-01 00:59:59 First, Blogger hates me. It's acting flaky, which means I'll be lucky if this post makes past the draft stage.
Okay, now that that's out of the way, I can babble on about the actual subject of this little update. I wish I were giving you a list of great reading referrals, but that must wait for another day. I'm actually dropping in to let you, my few loyal readers, know what's up with the
Three Stories Pending Acceptance 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Today's lunch break brings you the very uninteresting announcement that I managed to turn in three short stories to the University's annual Critical and Creative Writing Conference for consideration. Two of them were written in my last class--Advanced Creative Writing. The other is far older and far less likely to make it past the first round of reading. I figure the judges won't be very Read more:Three

Hmm.. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Seriously...I have nothing of interest to share. No big writing news. No update on the kidlet. No family drama to report (I believe most of that has passed and less painfully than I had imagined).
All in all things are pretty mundane.
Call me boring. I really don't mind. Boring means peaceful and I like peaceful. The most stressful thing I have to deal with right now is taking the kidlet back
Fixed & a Meme. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Ah ha! So I deleted all my cookies, temporary Internet files, and my history. I logged out of gmail and logged into Blogger fresh instead of allowing it to auto-log me in. Finally Blogger decided I had earned the right to type into the message field. I feel so privileged! LOL
Wish I would have thought to do that over the weekend. I would have been able to post this meme when I wanted to on Read more:Fixed

Brief Update 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I don't have a lot of time today. I have class in fifteen minutes, a half-eaten lunch in front of me, and an insistant bladder demanding I take five minutes for a pit stop. TMI? Sorry...but it is what is.
I'm getting all psyched up for me weekend away. Just two more days of work and then I'm off! Can't wait. We're supposed to be leaving early Friday morning. My cousin has a presentation Read more:Brief

The First Turning Point 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I've been working on my SIL's vampire romance story for a few months now. Some weeks have been better than others, but somehow I've managed to pull together 30K words. I'd like to say those words have been easy. It'd be a lie, though, so I won't. Along with the usual whine about not having enough time, there has been an apparent lack of enthusiasm for the project. Oh, it's not agony writing Read more:First
A Dose of Humility 1970-01-01 00:59:59 You know I'm a nerd, right? I assume that fact has been established without any doubt over the course of the last few yearas. Even worse, I'm a somewhat overachieving nerd. My first A- at the University left me fuming for week.
Well, today I got a reminder that I am not perfect. Now I know you may find this hard to believe, dear reader, but it's true. I am woefully imperfect. Flawed. And Read more:Humility

Monday Confessions 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Blame this on Joely.
I think I spent a whopping two hours on the vampire romance last week. At this rate, I'll be fifty before I finish the first draft. I need to stop tuning into the television and focus on the fiction.
Maybe I should stop reading, too.
Um. NO!! I'm going to insist reading is just as important as the writing that isn't being done. Sure, it's entertainment and something I Read more:Monday
Check out my Slide Show! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 These pictures are some I scanned for the Christmas project I was working on for my dad. (Shhh...don't tell mom but she's getting one for Mother's Day) These pics are from my childhood, although a few recent ones might have slipped in. I'm sure you'll be able to tell which is which! New Look and Good News...Maybe 2007-03-01 14:14:00 I got tired of pink. Hope you like the new green decor.
On a completely unrelated note, I heard back from the Creative and Critical Writing conference about those three short stories I submitted for consideration. All three were accepted. I'm scheduled to present both days (2 stories on Thursday and 1 on Friday).
So why did I say this was only maybe good news? Well, I just realized I'm Read more:Maybe
Weekend Accomplishments 2007-03-05 01:57:00 Writing:
I've added over 3000 words to my vampire-romance. I've also been playing around with a new title because the working title SUCKS. I'm toying with Saving Angels or Broken Angels or Love's Demon. I dunno. What do you think?
Scrapbooking:
I completed a two-page spread. I think it turned out really cute. There are hardly any embellishments on it. It's a very simple design but it's Read more:Weekend

Me & Big Mouth 2007-03-13 19:29:00 Your Mouth is a Little Big
You're not a total tell all, but you don't hide who you are either.
You've struck a good balance between discretion and sharing.
People know you fairly well, at least on a superficial level.
But you save your most revealing secrets for your best friend... or no one!Do You Have a Big Mouth

Tired 2007-03-12 23:36:00 I could sleep for a week. I'm sure this is a direct result of emotional stress and Daylight Savings.
I didn't do much of anything over the weekend. Basketball with the boys. Watched kids Saturday night. Might have done some laundry when it crossed my mind from time to time. Read another chapter in the history book from Hell (although I honestly feel better about that one after talking to the
Writing Conference Overview 2007-03-17 00:06:00 This year's Critical and Creative Writing Conference has come and gone. I read both days: two short stories on Thursday and one this morning. My first story got quite a bit of reaction, more than I had expected. It seems everyone could relate in some way with my protagonist. And almost everyone in the room told me how.
The second story I read got absolutely no responses. Not a single word Read more:Overview
Unhappy Anniversary 2007-03-19 18:24:00 Five years. It hardly seems possible that we've been at war with Iraq for that long. Five years ago my babies were still babies. My oldest had just turned four and my youngest had celebrated his first birthday only a few months prior. Our little nuclear family had just moved into the new house and hadn't even had a chance to do more than upack the boxes we had brought with us. The first Read more:Anniversary
Where did the Weekend Go? 2007-03-19 01:41:00 I realize it's Sunday night and I've accomplished nothing. Not a damn thing. I can't even claim doing more than a single load of laundry--and I haven't even folded that load yet. Thank God for the hubby because without him I don't know that anything would have gotten done around this place this weekend.
I did finish reading the History-Book-from-Hell and started the paper that's due Tuesday Read more:Weekend
Weekend Update 2007-03-26 03:56:00 I'm just about to head to bed. The hubby went a few minutes ago..I think he got tired of watching Planet Earch on the Discovery Channel. I'm only half watching it myself.
I did manage to make some progress this weekend on the WIP. Added a little over 2000K words. Not bad for a couple hours worth of work.
I also finished two scrapbook pages (a double-page spread). I'm not sure I'm as Read more:Weekend

It Stinks! 2007-03-28 02:18:00 Okay, so I thought the beer smell would improve. Was I ever wrong! I believe I mentioned in an earlier post that he had to store it upstairs this time and had elected to use our walk-in closet. When he first announced this I thought, "No big deal."
Egads.
It stinks to high heaven! Nasty, smelly, breath-stealing stench. Of course, it's only in the closet, so if I'm content to avoid all my

The Results Are In 2007-04-06 22:32:00
We had parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday. I'm happy to report they are both doing well. This is such a relief. I figured the little guy was doing just fine, but I was a bit anxious about our 3rd grader. He's managed to pull up his scores, though, and received mostly 2s (which means he earned anywhere between 89-70%). His only low scores were in spelling and writing, which wasn't
Happy Easter 2007-04-09 03:10:00 We've had a full weekend at the ole homestead. Saturday morning the boys and I got around and went to my in-laws' church for an Easter
egg hunt. Because we had snow--yes, snow!--on the ground the hunt was moved indoors. It was a freakin' madhouse. I'm telling you right now there were some serious fire marshall violations going on. But, it all ended well. The boys each got a baggie full of candy, Read more:Happy

Envious 2007-04-16 18:03:00 It is okay to admit to feeling envy? Wanting what someone else has isn't an aberration in human nature. I'd say just the opposite. I'd say its normal. Perfectly normal in fact.
Oh, be quiet. You know you're guilty of this particular little sin, too. Don't even try to deny it!
So, here's my list of envies...
1. The stay-at-home mom who gets to spend the early years at home with her babies.
2.
She Gave Him Flowers 2007-04-18 01:39:00 My kindergartener brought home a bouquet of flowers today. Not one filled with roses or lilies. Not one dotted with baby's breath or bursting with daisies. No, this lovely little bouquet is one of weeds. They were a gift from one of the little girls in my son's class. She picked these "flowers" for my cute little man and to make sure they lived through the school day, she put them in a cute Read more:Flowers
Collaboration Update 2007-04-27 15:01:00 So my sister and I have started working on our project. We've both done a bit of research and have each started writing. She's handling the prologue, which sets up the heroine's disfigurement and introduces the villian. I've written the first chapter from our hero's POV.
Here's a small snippet from what I've completed so far. Before you read, please keep in mind that this is subject to change, Read more:Collaboration
