The Only Dog Friendly Pub in Muswell Hill for Kevin the Collie 2006-10-16 16:40:00 Mum was worrying that I seemed a bit subdued last week after my visits to the vet's. We had not been far afield and I am still getting used to my new home. My new place to lie is next to the Aga, which is my idea of dog heaven. No surprise if I am a bit quiet - I'm sleeping!
On Friday night we went to the Royal Oak, still the only dog friendly pub in Muswell Hill
and a very good pub anyway. I always recognise the route when we walk there, and I get excited. Which dogs would be there? When we arrived I spotted the Schnauzer, another regular, so I went to say hello. I bounded back to Mum and leapt up on to the seat beside her - that will teach her to say I was quiet! She quickly shooed me off, cos I never get on to furniture as a rule. The Yorkshire Terrier arrived soon after and he is always friendly. Then the evening got better as the Landlord came in with his golfing team. Bliss - twenty new people to sniff out. I had great fun mingling, and popping back to reassure Them I Read more:Collie

Dogs are not handbags, Paris. 2006-10-16 05:59:00 What size do you think a dog should be? I am a small Collie weighing 13 kilos, the perfect size for town according to Them. As you can see I am way too big to fit in a handbag. When I meet specially bred miniature dogs I often think they look like the grey squirrels that infest London - 'rats with tails'. Small dogs like these are often carried around by women who see them as accessories. The Read more:Paris

Blue Merle Collie - New Dog Walking Friend 2006-10-03 18:35:00
Mum and I are now in Muswell Hill most of the time, so we need to find our favourite new dog walking routes. We like the playing fields that lead to Coldfall Wood, and usually we meet nice dogs there. Today Mum spotted a playful Collie
and we walked back to see him. He was a very handsome Blue Merle Collie, called Jumble, after the 'Just William' stories. Mum got excited cos she always wanted to call her first dog Jumble but I already had a name when she got me. Jumble has one blue eye like all the best Blue Merle Collies, but his Mum says he catches snails and takes them in the house - yuk! I draw the line at catching a few flies on a hot summer afternoon. Here is a photo of a Blue Merle - not as good-looking as Jumble, but it shows you what they look like.

Dog Holiday on the Best Beach Ever 2006-10-03 13:41:00
Mum and Dad finally got all my pictures in one place and there are some good photos of me!! There is one of me and Mum arriving at the beach in Camber, where you can see another chap enjoying the exercise behind us. Then you see Mum admiring me while I roll in the sand, and finally you see me in the middle of the expanse of beach. Camber Sands is a set of dunes and one huge sandy beach that goes on for miles. It is also dog friendly - in the Summer there is an area where we can only go on the lead, but otherwise we can romp around as much as we like.
The sand is white and clean, then there are pools and quicksand sections near the sea. These are perfect for me to roll around and get a bit damp for my sandbath. I got most of the sand all over Mum, but she doesn't seem to mind.

I am a Dog, Not a Pig 2006-10-28 23:08:00 I like mushrooms, believe me - but we have been spending over an hour most days on mushroom hunting, and I have had enough. It really restricts my off - lead time. All I hear is 'Kev, stay close', 'Here, kev' .. you get the idea? While Mum picks all the mushrooms in North London and tries to train me as her Truffle Dog. I cannot tell you where we go, under pain of death. She even

Dog Friendly Finchley? Dogs Need Safe Places to Wait 2006-10-31 19:49:00 Dad says we are a bit refined since we moved to Muswell Hill: have you noticed a different tone in my journal? Today we went back to Finchley and Mum was not happy with the place she had to tie me outside a shop: she was worrying in case an aggressive dog came along while she was away. 'In Muswell Hill I can take my dog into the bank with me' she muttered, 'here I can't even tie you up safely'. Read more:Friendly

Dog Film Star Visits Kevin the Collie Blog 2006-11-09 16:53:00 My Blog has been visited by a film star dog called Onion. He left me a message to say he is appearing in a new film that opened on 3 November in London, called 'Scenes of a Sexual Nature'. Do not worry, it is not an X rated movie - Mum would never tolerate that! It is a romantic comedy set on Hampstead Heath, a great dog friendly place that we visit often.
I saw a preview where Onion chases a Read more:Collie

Skin Allergy Update - Itchy Dog 2006-11-10 12:01:00 I have been a bit quiet recently, we were very busy moving Mum's things out of her house. We spent four nights there while she was packing and guess what? My skin allergy got much worse again! Mum's house has fitted carpets nearly everywhere. She noticed my allergy seemed much better while I stayed at Dad's place, with its stripped wooden floors. My allergy had definitely improved while we Read more:Allergy

Animal Alert - Help the Dogs at the Mayhew 2006-11-12 23:06:00 My friend Loui has just alerted me to a real problem affecting the Mayhew Animal
Home, the place where we were both taken to find our new families. The Mayhew is a charity and the local council in Hammersmith and Fulham has put a controlled parking zone outside, which means the Mayhew Home has to pay £000s just to park the animal ambulances outside. If you agree this is wrong, please sign the Read more:Alert
Foundation For Endangered Species UK Projects - Seahorses 2006-11-14 16:24:00 When we went to the Muswell Hill Festival we met a chap from the Foundation
for Endangered Species
and Mum was very interested in their work- here is an extract from their latest newlsetter:

Christmas Gift for Your Dog - Dogs Face on a Biscuit 2006-11-15 18:55:00 This is a great Christmas

Dogs Love Beaches - Myspace Video 2006-11-17 18:42:00 It is wet and cold today. Mum and I went shopping and we got absolutely soaked. I was huddled under the counter at the market when the rain was heaviest, but I still looked bedraggled. Mum got a new car this week, and she took me to see the dog friendly people at Tally Ho car centre, who fed me sausages and chips. This made me feel a bit better. When we came home we went to my Dog Training Read more:Beaches
Dogs Game and Exercise, Christmas Gift Hints 2006-11-20 14:36:00 We went to stay at my Grandmother's this weekend and Mum did some shopping for her. I found some fun ways to occupy myself:
- stand near an automatic door so that it stays open - this really annoys the security staff. If the door does close, jump inside the door and howl loudly as if you have been trapped
- wait at the supermarket entrance barking constantly (even though you can see your Mum) Read more:Christmas

Ariel - Tricolour Collie Dog 2006-11-21 16:15:00 This is a photo of Ariel
, a dear departed Tricolour Collie
pet who belonged to Ham, the author of one of our favourite London Blogs. He recently featured a picture of another Collie, so I just had to leave a comment. Ham then dropped me a line to tell me about Ariel. Nice how bloggers are so friendly - perhaps one day my picture will be on his blog - I am a famous London dog!

Barking Dogs Training to Stop 2006-11-23 15:15:00 I am in the doghouse - excuse the pun. I have been barking a lot under stress, for example when I wait at a shop or when I am left in the car. In the shops some people think a barking dog means a dangerous dog - no!! Barking
is just a part of a dog's body language, and they can see that my tail is wagging. Today I blotted my copybook cos Mum left me at home for an hour and I barked constantly. I Read more:Training
Dog Chews can help Dog Allergies 2006-11-24 11:08:00 Yesterday we met a lovely tricolour collie called Carina, who looks just like me - we might have been separated at birth. We had a nice walk together in Alexandra Park, and Mum noticed that Carina had some bare patches in her fur - worse than me. Apparently Carina suffers from the same allergy problem as me, we have both been really itchy this week and her vet has not cured her either. They Read more:Allergies
Celebrity Barkless Dog - Basenji 2006-11-25 19:31:00 We often come across a few minor soap stars round here, cos we are only a few miles from town and also quite close to the BBC Elstree studios. Usually we play it very cool and pretend we don't recognise them, we don't want to boost their egos. But it is different when we meet their dogs. We ran into Maureen Lipman's dog, Diva, a Basenji: also known as the Barkless Dog of Africa. Maureen Lipman Read more:Celebrity
London Dogs Garden Centre - Fierce Cat 2006-11-27 07:08:00 I went to Alexandra Park, which was full of dogs enjoying a Sunday walk after a long thunderstorm. We met Ralph, a Guide Dog puppy in training. He had been bitten last week in Highgate Woods, and had to have stitches in the wound. His Mum told us the dog owner had said her dog was safe - tell that to poor Ralph!
We all went to the Alexandra Palace GardenCentre

Kevin The Collie in Disguise 2006-11-27 11:17:00 Can you see me? Mum says this photo reminds her of a Snipe, camouflaged in a reedbed (she used to be a bit of a twitcher). My colouring is quite autumnal I suppose: Dad noticed how I was blending in with the fallen leaves and took this with his new phone. The leaves are from London Plane trees, as you probably noticed. They are a nuisance if they are outside your house, but we thought it was Read more:Collie

Kevin the Collie Visits his Dog Friendly Local 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Another good night at the pub - Mum and Dad took me to the Famous Royal Oak, one of the most dog friendly pubs around. I walk around off the lead, mixing with the customers as I choose.
Obviously this is only possible for a well behaved dog after training! We met a very nice young Irish couple, but we forgot to get their names. They live in Muswell Hill as well so I will catch them next time. Read more:Collie

Dog Training after the Holidays 1970-01-01 00:59:59 At last there are more dogs at my regular exercise field. Cally the Giant Scnauzer was also there, she is one of the most socialized dogs I know. Lucky (a Jack Russell) has been in Italy for two months and I think he calmed down a bit while he was there. Like my Mum and Dad, his family prefer to take their dog on holiday with them. But there was a lot of red tape to go through every time they Read more:Dog Training

Hot Dog 1970-01-01 00:59:59 It is too hot for a dog to walk today. Sadly my friend Peppy, a nine year old Dalmatian had a heart attack on Monday. It was his second attack, and this time he died. I will miss him, and his Dad, George, will be lost without him. My Mum advised him to get another dog, preferably an older dog like me (!) - most new owners prefer puppies, but Mum says they are hard work. She likes the fact
