HunterClick images to enlargeThese are two of the Christmas cakes I baked (cooked) last year, one was for home and the other for the staff Christmas party on the ward.For the party we all prepared food so it was varied from around the world, mine as you can guess is traditional rich fruit cake, we had to order the patients party food as it is against policies for them to eat anything not made on the premises, half way through the occupational therapist suggested cutting the cake and letting the patients have some, she was instantly shouted "no" at by everyone in the room ... She honestly thought it was shop bought and couldn't believe it was home made simply based on the icing being so smooth (I cheated and used the ready made stuff). iGoogle 2007-05-15 01:15:00 Having just worked night shifts and using Google so much to search for local history we got to see much more of the iGoogle theme as it changed through the evening to morning.We both had ours set to Tea House and yes I know this is going to sound sad but we do work long shifts, it entertained us with every change.I started using my customised Google home page after my search bar on Firefox was no longer taking me to Google UK, and with stuff to do at home I never noticed all the details let alone the number of changes throughout the day that take place in that picture.On top of that I got to looking a little more at the different widgets and now I don't need to keep Google Mail open, I can quickly check my feeds as well all on one page.Yeah I know it's me rambling again but I thought I'd tell everyone that the themes are fun and the Tea House is interesting to watch throughout the day, there's only one problem I can see, my time is set to London the above page was captured at about
ebay bargains 2007-05-14 03:11:00 I love shopping on ebay, I buy loads on there. Recently I have ordered 6 cross stitch kits all from the same set that I am doing for work, I'll be posting the finished products as I get them done, but compared to UK prices for the same kits I've saved at least 50% including postage and packaging just by getting them from the US.Last night I placed bids on some skirts I had been watching, all new with tags, I had previously contacted the seller about combining postage charges, I left for work and had forgotten the auctions, whilst making coffee they came to mind again. The auctions were all due to end while I was on the way to work which is why I placed my bids before leaving.When I logged in I had won all five skirts, the best news (because I'm buying a house and shouldn't be spending all my money) is that I bought five skirts all new with tags for just £13.60 including postage and packaging.
Pear shaped 2007-05-13 10:28:00 I was viewing my blog from work last night on IE6, it wouldn't load properly and everything was everywhere. I edited the main problems that were the buttons. looked fine on IE6 and Firefox (I managed to download it and add it to my desktop at work)Came home and found again on IE7 that the layout was all over the place.Had another look and worked out that the table was all wrong, so now that is I hope all fixed.Discovered why I didn't have many visitors this weekend to my photo hunt post, I had typed my address wrongly on TNChicks site, I don't know what happened there, either it was tiredness or yet another patient was knocking on the office door when she should've been in bed sleeping.

health, we all tend to psychoanalyse each other, we do it whilst at work and we do it outside of work.Last night I was told that I am intimidating, even before I speak it would seem I am intimidating the way I carry myself and the way I look at people ... I mean come off it if you're intimidated by a 5'6" girl weighing 60K, then what are you doing working with murderers, sex offenders and generally insane people twice her size?I was also told that I'm complex, and angry, that when I'm seen walking around I just look cool and look as though nothing can touch me (my other half tells me I'm arrogant).So now I'm left reflecting that maybe I should change slightly, I know my patients are often intimidate and then I feel guilty, although I have far from meant to intimidate them.I realise that working in such a multi cultural area that my behaviour is often misinterpreted, my language is often seen as angry but that is a big issue in itsel

Haig Pit, WW follow up 2007-05-10 04:39:00 As promised yesterday some more information on my Wordless Wednesday post.The photo to the left is Haig Colliery Mining Museum (taken by Simon Ledingham), in Whithaven, Cumbria. In this photo you can see the same mine shaft as in my photo posted on Wednesday. We unfortunately never visited the museum and until looking on the web later didn't even realise there were so many buildings hiding in the picture.Now for some history, records show that coal mining had been established in the area as early as the late 13th century. Haig was sunk for the Whitehaven Colliery Company Ltd between 1914 and 1918, it is thought the name is in honour of General Sir Douglas Haig, Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces at that time.Haig was designed to incorporate the latest safety features and working practices to comply with the legislation of the day. St Bees and house hunting 2007-05-06 18:40:00 This is St Bees head the view from the hill near the caravan park where we stayed whilst house hunting
.St Bees is about 10-15 minutes from the town where we are planning on moving to and as you can see it's a beautiful coastline.What you can't see is Sellafield nuclear power station, it's just on that bit of land that is cut off in the picture to the upper right. Still it doesn't seem to have done much harm to the area and I'm told that research shows very little change to the marine life in the area.So the house hunting; we viewed a fair few houses, getting into double figures. I'm close to being sick of looking now, some were nasty and smelt of the old people who I'm sure must have died in the house, others were really nice and we did see a few that were high on our list, only to be told later that offers had been put in and accepted or offers higher than the asking price had already been put in.One house which was fire damaged and the first we looked at was actually my favour

While I was away I used the local library to print a copy of my CV for a job I saw advertised whilst away. I had taken my laptop and so transferred my CV to my USB flash drive, everything was fine and we returned the next day to use the internet.I again used my flash drive as I have Portable Apps on it, although I couldn't check my email due to the library security. I left the flash drive in the computer and last night while looking for it went into a panic due to some sensitive information that is stored on the drive.This morning I called the library and when they looked it wasn't in the lost property, I didn't expect it to be there, they took my phone number just in case they found it somewhere else, and a little while ago I received a call. They are now sending my flash drive to me.If this had been anywhere else in the country it would not be being returned to me, let alone be handed in, I'm so am

Confused 2007-04-23 19:29:00 It would seem that EU legislators reviewing animal experimentation laws, and all the animal rights groups are uniting to push to ban 'non-human' primate testing, there's a woman in Austria going through the courts at the moment attempting to legal guardian of a chimpanzee (see previous post).Okay if you're going to win something, then going after one thing is better than loosing everything by going after everything in sight. It just seems wrong though.Why save primates over any other animal when it comes to testing, adding 'non-human' almost as a prefix to the word primate doesn't make a monkey any less animal or any better than all the other animals that are tested on does it?

Slow progress 2007-04-20 01:31:00 Another couple of hours later and this is as far as I have got, It feels like slow progress
but then when I look that's a fair few stitches there. Still only on the top half.I need something comfy to sit on out in the back garden, the back door step is fine while I'm not sewing but not so comfy whilst trying to sew.Even though I'm changing colour here the areas are quite large and I get very bored, even lost count, again it was easily fixed by adding another stitch to each row ... Beats knitting any day when you drop a stitch.

Home page 2007-05-21 06:17:00 I have to blog about this as I'm really rather impressed with myself.For a few years I've had my own domain, not mytopsy-turvylife.co.uk (you can see how I use my own custom domain name in this post Using a Lycos Custom Domain Name on Blogger) but another one. All I ever do is play about with it.Over the past week I have syndicated my RSS feeds on it, that's my last 15 posts on this blog appearing in full on another website as html rather than java script, have a look at inanna's garden to see what it looks like.It wasn't easy to add all the bits and put the link in the right place but I managed it finally and I am quite impressed with the end result.I'll come back after work and explain how I managed to get it working. Mars products ARE veggie 2007-05-20 12:36:00 This is is a follow up on a previous post Mars products NOT veggieHopefully this will make some people happy again, Mars have made a U-turn on their decision to use rennet from the stomach lining of young calves.Within a week Masterfoods the parent company of Mars had received more than 6ooo email complaints from vegetarians upset with the change of recipe to their Mars, Snickers, Maltesers and Galaxy brands.Fiona Dawson, managing director of Mars UK; "The consumer is our boss and we had lots of feedback from consumers who were unhappy about the change," Ms Dawson said."It became very clear, very quickly that we had made a mistake, for which I am sorry."There are three million vegetarians in the UK and not only did we disappoint them, but we upset a lot of the consumers."So you may need to wait a little while for stocks to clear but Mars products will be veggie again, just check the ingredients before you buy them.

Mum 2007-05-24 09:31:00 My mum called me on Saturday with some news she said I get angry when she doesn't tell me things, it's true I do ... She forgets to tell me that she's moved or changed her phone number for instance.Yesterday I called her and she had more news, now if I don't blog for a while it's because I'm home with her, looking after her, she has been diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer.To say I'm not worried or scared would be a lie, only I'm not just worried and scared for my mum, I'm worried for me as well she has a bad track record of passing her bad genes on to me, I've already got her dylexia and dyspraxia for instance, not to mention matching moles. Of course and more importantly I also can't imagine life without her.So anyway if I vanish off the face of the blogosphere it's because I'm just too busy bossing nurses around and telling them how to do the dressings, reminding them of their infection control procedures and generally being a royal pain in the arse making sure
