All my new features (Blogger only) 2007-05-31 09:53:00 As some who visit my blog frequently or at least more than once may have noticed I have been busy and there are some changes that have been made.Okay, I will admit to having added a fair few hacks here, I'm keeping myself occupied and my mind off my mothers health issues.A good few of the following hacks are what our friends using other platforms have built in, here using the Blogger
platform we need to hack the HTML to use them. I know that some people say they don't have a clue, but if you follow the links below and the step-by-step instructions then it's easy. Many thanks goes to the Blogger Hackers who work on making our blogs even better and sharing their efforts with everyone.Whilst some are obvious, others aren't so I'll just point out what is different.Starting with the obvious; There are now tabs at the top of the page, these show the 5 most frequent tags that I use. The hack for this can be found at Hoctro's Place Showing your Blogger Labels as Tabs with Ramani's Tweak Read more:features

The cemetery was opened in 1840 and as you can see from the photo's above the chapel is empty and disused, the cemetery itself is now used as a place of reflection, I find it a very peaceful and beautiful place to walk. It amazes me how something so beautiful and serene is hidden in the middle of so much concrete and bustle (the city). Some history from the Abney Park Trust website; All denominations with an emphasis on Nonconformists Abney Park Cemetery was established on uniquely non-denominational or ecumenical principles for everyone to share a single chapel and to be buried side by side. Moreover, the company's prospectus made great play of the fact that it would be a cemetery 'which shall be open to all classes of the community'. Abney Park was therefore open to the burial of the labouring classes in common graves; a situation made more necessary after London's city burial grounds were Read more:Saturday

Saturday Photo Hunt 2007-03-03 04:14:00 Theme - SaltyClick to enlargeThis is Ness Point, looking out across the North Sea (salty theme) and it is the most Easterly Point in the UK. It's also in Lowestoft, the town where I grew up, strangely I didn't know the big circular thing was there until 1999 when the town was getting ready for the party (that may have been when it got a revamp), I didn't even know it was the most Easterly Point in the UK with good reason ... It's the most run-down area of the town and the town is pretty run-down.Now a C&P from Wiki, I may not like the place nowadays but it's still where I'm from ...Literary and artistic connections Lowestoft has a number of literary and artistic connections. In the 1840s, Charles Dickens came to stay with Sir Samuel Morton Peto. Lowestoft's Beach Village, along with Blundeston village, became the inspiration for David Copperfield. The nineteenth century writer and traveller George Borrow lived in Oulton Broad for many years. Joseph Conrad came from his native Po Read more:Saturday

Before the train left the platform his father gave him the watch and told him never to go back. The last he heard from his father was a letter from prison. My granddad used to tell me great bedtime stories about Russia and the Ukraine, of how he knew the Princesses and how one read his palm whilst he was in hospital telling him his wife was still a child and she was in another country but they would meet eventually (my nan was about 20 years younger and English), he was a great romantic. All new blog 2006-12-13 05:39:00 So this is my all new blog, I've decided to only blog about my cross stitches and other stuff I make here so prepare to be bored.I've sat and played with the layout for far too long, to let it just sit here, and as I discovered recently I have to be careful what I say about my private life in public (and in some cases private).I've added a picture flickr badge to the page where all of my completed cross stitches can be seen, all that I have photo's of that is.There's also another of things I have made, although not all pictures shown will be mine.
Opps, that was silly 2007-06-04 19:36:00 My blog has been turned off again, that generally means I'm playing about and trying to get something to look right without the whole world and his dog seeing it.I made a big mistake and whilst working on another blog template based on this one I accidentally uploaded it to this blog, I lost all my widget content and have since been slowly adding it back.Seeing as I was effectively beginning with a blank canvas again I've modified the blog and it is now fluid, not everything looks great when it is at a lower resolution but there's no scrolling across the page anymore. As I hadn't actually saved the content of the widgets anywhere I am now compiling lists of hacks that I add as I go and lists of widget contents labelled by widget name in the template. We live and learn, I'll not be doing something so stupid again. In the meantime I'm going public again and I'll be slowing adding everything that is missing to fill the big blank spaces down the sidebars.
How a night shift should be 2007-06-07 05:26:00 This was us last night on our final dessert yes, I did just say final dessert.Last night we ate chicken samosas and banana ball things for starters, then we had kebab ordered in from over the road, next we had tart aux fruit, finishing with the profiteroles you see us eating here. All washed down with a steady flow of caffeine in the form of coke and fresh brewed coffee. Were we feeling a little sick ... Err well full and bloated would be a good description.I've since come home and order £60 of cardboard boxes so I can begin packing. They will arrive tomorrow and by tomorrow night I will have started. I'm guessing I might just have it all finished by the end of July.

Read My Lips 2007-06-05 04:04:00 This is a recently finished cross stitch I have made, I bought the whole set, six altogether and I plan to give them to the girls for the nurses station when I leave. They are supposed to be fridge magnets and come with a magnet, I'm just going to put them in clip frames though.I actually finished this last week but left it and another that I started at my mums so they only just arrived to me again by post today. It was my first time of sewing on plastic canvas and I got so bored with it being so rigid and the whole top and bottom action of sewing in general. They are by Dimensions and you can get them here in the UK but I had mine sent from the US as they worked out roughly 50% cheaper even with the postage and packaging.
Recycled London 2007-06-10 03:17:00 It's amazing what the city recycles, at a time when people are concerned about the environment, waste products and dangerous emissions the London transport recycle more than a few plastic bottles. Before going any further I will point out I am no lover of Transport for London, the cost of commuting is too high when trains and buses are over crowded and delays are severe. They also effectively stole pre-pay money from me when they took away my student travel card (yes an Oyster) wanting to charge me double the amount to claim back the pre-pay amount left on the card. They are far from perfect. We see a few buses travelling around nowadays as part of a trial that run on hydrogen fuel cells, the old paper ticket is now less frequently used and we have our lovely long lasting Oyster cards, they also now charge us to drive into the city in an effort to make people share public transport. So we already see how they are making changes (slowly agreed) to help the environment. What could they be Read more:Recycled
Hacks, hacks and more hacks 2007-06-09 08:54:00 In a previous post I mentioned all the hacks (nothing new except to this blog) I had added to my blog well, one for what ever reason stopped working and whilst attempting to put it right I totally cleared this blog and in effect had a blank canvas with the exception of all the posts. So now with a few more hacks than before and most added java scripts being hosted from one place rather than many same for images, hopefully speeding up the page load time, unfortunately due to me being too lazy to host my blog myself I'm still at the mercy of Blogger, whose server is slow at times. So the rebuild included replacing these hacksThere are now tabs at the top of the page, these show the 5 most frequent tags that I use. What are these flowers ??? 2007-06-08 02:54:00 These flowers grow in my back garden yet I have no idea what they are.I really love them though and would like some in the garden when I move, I'm not one for digging things up and yesterday I saw these dropping seeds. If anyone knows what these flowers are please post a message and let me know.
Forum life 2007-06-11 05:10:00 I know I've posted about the forum I moderate before but Jeez people just don't know when to stop.Just recently we had a spate of personal digs being posted and complaints about such left right and centre. We investigated and at the end of the day it comes down to he said this and she said that with people taking sides. With two main issues that astound and puzzle me that are universal across the internet. Why do people talk loads of crap online effectively leading others on and then dropping them. Why do others fall for the crap, being adults and knowing the risks of the internet for this type of thing. We had comments as all the mods managed to get different pieces of information from the members such as "it's better than a soap opera" when in effect it was more like a child's playground. So these people who lead others on, I wonder if they specifically target those that are obviously (at the time at least) in need, those that will easily fall for the spiel.I also always wonder what t Read more:Forum
A lone Blogger anti-spam campaign 2007-06-17 11:36:00 Okay just a few days ago I posted about my blog being spammed, well this is my pay back post to past and future spammers.I'll begin by explaining about spam bots; they are much like web crawlers, the bots we rely on to get our blogs on the search engines, spambots however collect email addresses for the spammers to send you unsolicited email, the main reason you show your email address as an image on your page rather than regular text.Mister Linky tells me that if the Mister Linky widget is getting spammed it is most likely by a real person not by a bot as bots can't handle java script very well, that real person and their website/company has an email address. So this post will be updated when I get spammed, it will contain a list of email address simply typed into the post for all spambots to read. The email addresses will be those of companies who think that by spamming us they will get business, now they can think again, because when they spam this blog they in turn will get spamme Read more:Blogger

Spam 2007-06-15 11:30:00 Spam, I'm now getting fed up with it, I've had to turn on the word verification in comments as I was hit there a few days ago and now my Mister Linky's are getting spammed. In the light of the Mister Linky spamming I'm going to keep them open for one day after the post and then lock them. Today I had to remove several links that had been added that were non-blogs and shops instead, I do check the link before removing it but the general rule of thumb is if there's no comment with the link then it's gone.
Just one of those days 2007-06-14 15:23:00 Imagine getting into work and the nurse in charge of the shift before you suddenly realises the second nurse, who was due to be on shift with you had phoned in and cancelled and the call had been forgotten about, leaving your shift short. This was the start of my day today, oh and it got better, all the way through hand over I saw a member of my team for the shift getting angrier and angrier, nostrils flaring, the steam almost visible coming out of her ears.Hand over finishes and I pick up the phone to the duty nurse, we have a serious problem, a patient in seclusion and only one qualified nurse to observe the secluded patient, administer medication and (supposedly) run the shift.I have to start raising my voice during the conversation as two of the staff were shouting at each other, half way through the call I asked him if he could hear how bad the situation was, the response was "err, yes I can hear them".The duty nurse was amazing, every hour we had a new nurse come to the ward to ta

Transference 2007-06-18 05:43:00 When reading this post some may say I'm crazy but this has been something that I have done for as long as I can remember.I can hear my mum in my head, when she's talking about me I can call her and ask her who it is she's talking to, I can answer her before she verbally asks the question and recently I have felt her pain. For those who visit frequently you may remember that I posted a while ago that she had be diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer, today she is in surgery having a mastectomy.Since before she told me about the lump I was feeling pain in the same breast that I took to be period pains only it was constant and even my partner commented on how large my breasts were, unlike regular mastitis that comes and goes with the cycles this stayed, the pain sometimes worse than other times which, coincided with mums pain coming and going.Today I feel nothing, I don't even feel mum, it's like she's just not there and the feeling is horrible and empty. It could be that at the
Childhood nightmares 2007-06-17 18:14:00 As a child I had a few recurring nightmares, you could say I was a child with issues, some would say I still have those issues but the nightmares have left me and I understand what they were all about nowadays, so maybe the issues aren't so big anymore. One of my nightmares I only just worked out the other day, it focused on the men in the following advert, I shall point out that in the 80's when this ad was being shown I was only young. The 'butter men' used to come and get me in my sleep, I would be fighting against the bedroom door, it would be my parents bedroom after I had run to them for help. Only they never helped, they sat there watching my distress but never helped. As I said a it only occurred to me few days ago that, that was how I saw my parents, forever watching but never helping. Of course they had no idea that I needed help or that I was in distress in real life let alone in my dream worlds. Read more:Childhood
My blogs rating, if it was a film 2007-06-24 05:50:00 I saw this whilst visiting Saturday Photo Hunt blogs on Jenny's Slice of my Life, thought I'd have a look and see what my blog would be rated as, in real life I swear loads and here I'm very careful.I think in reality my blog should be rated as G, yet it's not ...This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:* pain (4x) * breast (2x) * suicide (1x) now add 1 to each of those as I've just posted this.I find it unfair that these words increase the rating the words are all in relation to relevant stories and contain nothing visual or detrimental to children.

Black Shuck the Movie 2007-06-24 18:00:00 Last month I posted a story about the Devil Dog BlackShuck
, a local legend in the area I grew up.This weekend I came home to have mum read a story from the local newspaper, it would seem that Shuck may become a little better known as there is talk of making a film based on the legend.Shuck the Movie has drummed up interest from both Working Title, the multi million pound studio that released hits such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones, and more recently Hot Fuzz, and Handmade Films, behind Withnail and I and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. It's not certain yet if the studios will take it on but they are showing interest, at the moment the film is £50,000 shy of it's £180,000 target. The story will be based on the original Blythburgh story based in 1577.
