Subsequently, he moved to Mexico City (1989) where he appeared at various student festivals and gained prominence as a social activist and protest singer while looking for a record contract. Eventually, PolyGram issued his debut album, an LP (45 rpm), what eventually would be called "Dejame Decir Que Te Am

Protest singer Ricardo Arjona set for Dodge Arena performance
Ricardo Arjona's music speaks of the pain of poverty, the desperation of the kidnapped and the anger of the silenced.
Through songwriting and singing, Arjona shares his controversial views, while creating lullabies with memorable lyrics and interesting rhythms.
"I find him to be a lot more soulful, I think, than a lot of the other Latino acts," Juan Ozuna of Weslaco said. "His writing is very prolific and carries a lot of weight and meaning … as a singer he's very talented"
Fans of Arjona will be able to listen to his ballads and protest songs Thursday at Dodge Arena.

is more popular than two of his most famous countrymen: Nobel winners Miguel Ãngel Asturias (Literature) and Rigoberta Menchú (Peace Prize). Maybe it's because this urban poet has pleased thousands by turning into rhyme and music the problems of the middle-aged woman, the monotony of the housewife, and the story of girls with a bad reputation. And known for tackling unusual topics, it's no surprise that on his new album, Adentro, he dedicates a single to nothing less than the menstrual cycle. A controversy about the song arose, of course, but he fiercely defends his point of view."I believe that particular single to be one of the sweetest songs in the album," he says, "besides it being a subject that neither men nor women like to talk about. But somebody has to do it! And I believe the right way to do it is from a fr

Watch Videoclip EL PROBLEMA by Arjona 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Guatemalan singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona
is about to start a new tour through out Latin America, and maybe Spain: ADENTRO TOUR.In 2003 Ricardo traveled to Barcelona, Spain, with Mexican film director, Daniel Gruener, for the filming of the video "El Problema", the first promotional single from his album, "Santo Pecado". The single was at number one in Mexico, Chile, and the US.The filming took place November 16th,, 17th, and 18th using the city's gothic settings as a backdrop for the production. Danish cinematographer Nicolag Bruel gave the video an avant-garde feel that is very different from anything else presented by Arjona up to date. The Barcelona cathedral, the renowned street alleys, the Barrio Gotico, the Federacion Catalana del Billar, the city's legendary rooftops, and the great Plaza San Fernando, all paid witness to the filming of "El Problema", which was carried out during three days of intense filming, by a remarkable crew and production team.In the video, Arjona play

is a Guatemalan singer and songwriter. But he just not sings, he likes also painting, writing (a book or two), and maybe in a couple of years he will be in a movie. Ricardo got a fine sense of songcraft and political conscience. Antigua-born singer and songwriter, Ricardo Arjona stands apart from the slew of Latin "lover man" singers. i.e. Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, and Juanes... Arjona is a social singer, one of the best ones there are. He has a great voice, but I'd say his strong point are the lyrics more than the voice itself...ADENTRO (released on Des. 6th., 2005) is arguably one of the artist's most accomplished releases, combining several styles with a keen ear for pop accessibility. Arjona is one of the more respected Latin artists, mostly for his social conscience and his integrity in writing and performing songs. Ricardo Arjona, who has represented his/my country (Guatemala) in the OTI's Festival and recorded more that 10 albums, has been qualified as a controversial and talented artist, a fantastic one, a revolutionary one with the guitar and as the poet of modern music by the worldwide media. He's the guatemalan artist who got the stardom in an incredible way.Full name: Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales. He was born January 19th, 1964 in Antigua Guatemala."Since his childhood he developed a great passion for the music." NO! Women And Their Menstrual Cycle 1970-01-01 00:59:59 It's just amazing how Ricardo Arjona plays with words and composes a piece of Art with them. Only he could write a song about women and menstrual cycles and sound like poetry. He is one of the the best Latin American composers."Adentro" is probably one of the best albums of Arjona, all the songs are excellent, specially "Mojado" which is about a political issue. I've been waiting for this album and now it is finally here. The combination of genres and lyrics is very good, especially in "Iluso" (one of my favorites of "Adentro"). "Para que me quieras como quiero" is also a good one. Read more:Women

The Consul in the heavens has already granted you a visa 1970-01-01 00:59:59 In March this year the L.A. Times picked up and covered the Arjona song, "Mojado". In "Mojado," Ricardo Arjona adds his voice to the heated debate on a divisive topic.By Agustin Gurza, Times Staff WriterWritten in March 13 2006In the provocative new music video for his latest single, "Mojado" — or "Wetback" — popular Latin American singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona stands on a Tijuana beach at the dividing line between Mexico and the United States. Stretching behind him is the controversial new wall being built to separate the two countries. In front of him is the vast, unfenced sea.The jarring juxtaposition underscores the pro-immigrant message of this Guatemalan-born artist: Man may make borders, but God created the Earth for everybody. In a Spanish-language verse that is bound to inflame the already superheated debate on the issue, Arjona cloaks illegal immigration in a mantle of morality:Why do they chase you, Wetback / If the Consul in the heavens has already granted you a visa

You think he's a fascist, communist or you think he speaks for the people. All of his CDs are full of stories and tales that take you to another world. You love the woman over 40 he speaks of or you turn your back to his cheating girlfriend. I am one that Loves Ricardo Arjona. I think he's a brilliant composer, whose words can change people's views and thoughts. This CD is no different from his others. It is him from song one to fifteen. They are amazing stories. Santo Pecado by Ricardo Arjona 2006-01-03 04:24:00 Four years ago, on December 2002, I came across a review on Santo
Pecado. It was written by an English-speaking person. He put it like this:"Guatemalan singer-songwriter RicardoArjona
capped off the year with his release of Santo Pecado. I'm very impressed with what I've heard off this CD so far. It strikes me as closer in tone to earlier releases like Si El Norte Fuerte El Sur. I'm not wild about some of his soft ballads, but I can't help but be impressed by songs like the new Minutos. Good stuff!"And another one had written something on this two months earlier (Oct. 2002). It read:"Whenever I hear so much as a mention of soft folksy pop icon, Harry Chapin, my thoughts immediately drift off to picturing a small, cozy, bar in the basement of a brownstone in an upscale part of an east coast city. A place that's comfortable, just a bit smoky, and with the obligatory small stage tucked into a too-tight corner, with little more space than a lone guitarist or keyboard player would nee Read more:Ricardo Arjona
