Friendswin Does A Nice Thing 2007-10-07 09:48:53 Just a few day ago, I taught that Friendswin were launching to the general public. It was a “boardroom only” launched. But to show how fast it’s growing, we are now 12137 members. On Sept. 28, we were 9663.
They will soon launch a major public campaign and when it goes viral, they will give the spillover of new members to qualified members like me. That is nice. Today, I paid my first month. I should mentioned that one of my members in my downline has already made me a big $0.40(paid it’s first month too) I think most are procrastinating but eventually want a piece of the pie too.

RSS advertising on John Chow: The Final Result 2007-10-05 13:08:47 In September, I had the opportunity to be an RSS advertiser on John Chow Dot Com for $200/month. At that time, the numbers was near 8000 readers. Now, it’s 9100+. My goal was to promote my paid Blog Directory and my affiliate program(later) to his readers. Many are bloggers and so it was a natural fit to get serious bloggers, so I taught.

Traffic or PageRank ? 2007-10-17 07:07:16
With the recent crackdown on paid link by Google, it’s better to look at traffic first and PageRank
second. Some bloggers started to change the way they advertise now. They started to use the nofollow for paid links. I may have to do the same thing with 1 Cool file to be safe.
Why?
On my blog and mostly on 1 Cool file, I have a very large percent(80%) of visitors that come from Google. Each time an entry(file or blog) is added, the chances increase that they land on one of my page first. I noticed that over the last few weeks and this trend is going upward. So, I don’t want to be in Google doghouse for now. Eventually, I want people to go to my site first and then on Google.
Having natural link is better and also help to be found in the first pages according to some.
Conclusion
On 1 Cool file, I added an affiliate program and more features for reviewers(bloggers). You can find files too(freeware/shareware/themes/plugins…). I think I would not be penal

Are 125 x 125 pixel Ads Right for An Advertiser? 2007-10-18 12:25:37
Problogger asked the question from the point of view of a blogger. I will answer it from the point of view of an advertiser based on my own experience.
I started to advertise 1 Cool File on blogs with 125 x 125 ads. I also have a product(Blog Directory category) with an affiliate program and my 3 main goals are:
Increase the number of visitors
Sell Blog Packages(start at only $2,50/year)
Build a list of potential blog reviewers
So far, it’s disappointing because the sells are not there. Of course, it’s much harder to sell something. Some did see the ad but emailed me to asked if I wanted to advertise on their blog. The weirdest part is that my blog directory category is targeted at bloggers and they can make money too. I’m sure that they would make more from that than me advertising for 1 month on their blog.
On one upcoming blog, it will cost around $0,70-0,75 per visitor. I still have a few days left but it’s far too much to pay in my opinion.

Since BlogRush started, it had many troubles(cheating, non blogs…). Some bloggers were not satisfied with the performance and decided to remove the widget soon after. BlogRush was victim of it’s own popularity.
They are now in phase 2 and they removed 10 000 blogs and will add new features. Again, it did not go well because some blogs were removed like John Cow but that was fixed.
Reading the comments there, I noticed that some people don’t have much patience. My small blog only got 4 visits from it yet I still kept it there. I even got more visits from 1 Cool File or blogarama.com during the same time. Maybe with age, I get more patience.
I’m now considering the previous month mostly like a real world test drive. I’m willing to give it a chance but I will reconsider it in 1 month. Hopefully, the clean up will help.

McGrath Dot Ca is now PR5: Under the old url(stevesblogen.i2mfan.com) it was a PR3. Usually, it should had taken a few weeks to get the old PR but this PageRank update was longer and different so it may had caused the delay. Because of that, my PR was 0 since mid August when I moved the blog here.

update has finally started. The numbers look very very good for most of my sites/blogs.
It’s mostly an ego boost for me considering the hard work I put in them. It’s my first PageRank and hope the numbers stays at those expected level.
I will be able to raise advertising price soon for 1 Cool File(PR6?).
But buy traffic and not PR because I will put a nofollow on them anyway.

Toshiba US Division Stole The HD-A2 HD DVD Player From Canada 2007-11-02 16:13:40
I went to a few places to see if it was possible to get the Toshiba
HD-A2 HD DVD Player
in Quebec City and at what price.
Guest what? I could not find one. I also read on a Canadian forum that other electronics stores did not have them anymore in stocks. Now we know where they were all ship back to. With the big fire sale($100-$200) expected on the next few days/weeks in the US, Toshiba probably wanted the maximum of stock in US stores and some specific US cities.
I could however find the newer version Toshiba HD-A30 1080p HD DVD Player but this one cost more.
I think Toshiba took the ideal from American Gangster(Universal movie and HD DVD supporter) a little too far.
Okay, it’s Friday and wanted to have a bit of a laugh. And no! I did not want to buy one, unless it was $100

Zoom is a new free service made by bloggers for bloggers. With it, you can submit your own posts that will “zoomed” or voted to the top by the other bloggers. I decided to wait and see some results before posting.
Is it another Digg, Technorati type service?
Yes and No. The basic ideal is the same but the main difference is that it’s only for quality bloggers. So, you won’t see any non-blog posts or spam blogs in it. Plus, you can submit you own post unlike Digg.
The SEO angle
When you submit a post, you will have to write a small teaser first and a second longer one. It’s here that they come in. They will make modifications to both descriptions so that it can be index by Google faster.
One of my post descriptions was improved by them. In time, bloggers will be better at it and they won’t need them as much. But you need to use more than one sentence to make it easy to be index by Google.

Kmart will go HD DVD exclusive. That news spread like wild fire but it was only reported here by a Toshiba spoke person. But, Kmart will still sell the Playstation 3(PS3) which is also a Blu-Ray player if your don’t already know. They might not keep Blu-Ray movies in stock. I did not see any official news on Kmart/Sears sites. Can anyone point me to an official press release(thanks)? Let’s say it’s true for argument sakes.
The recent release of Transformers also helped HD DVD. Granted the HD DVD format had very good news in recent weeks.

Avoid Being A “Dead Blog” 2007-10-30 16:50:07 In yesterday’s post, Court asked where did the bloggers go since he started blogging. I did leave a comment. Go read it because it is a good post.
It’s not secret that most blogs will be “dead blogs” within the first few months or first year. Most blogs are started because the blogger wanted an outlet to write what they think about a particular subject, share information or a passion. After a while, the blogger stop updating the blog for many reasons(lack of time, start a new blog, …)
For example, the make money online niche is only a tiny part of the blogs and so money is the main driving force for them. They have a financial goal and thus it’s easy for them to calculate the success of a blog. They know it won’t happen in a few days and have more patience. This is not the case with new bloggers.
After reading Court’s post, I decided to give a few simple rules so that those blogs don’t turn into “dead blogs”.

Another Round Of PageRank Slapping? 2007-11-07 12:16:00
On October 26th, Google started it’s famous PageRank
update. At that time, this blog received a PR5. I was happy(ego ) about it until today. While I was working on 1 Cool File detail page, I noticed that my PageRank was lower. It’s now a PR3.
I checked with 5 PageRank checker and they all confirmed my dropped in PR. The strange thing is my original blog URL is still PR5. Could it be some delay because I did a 301 redirect and will be back to PR5 later? Is it another round of PR slapping? Is it normal and be set later until the next official update?
I know that some of you will buy a site based on the new PageRank. It may not be the only factor you will look at unless you want it mostly for the PR. I would suggest that hold off to see if others are slapped again.

John Chow is Losing $ 2082.49 2007-11-07 07:58:23
One of the most popular blogger, John Chow, is losing more and more money because of a strong Canadian dollar versus the US dollar.
How I got this number?
I used the October official numbers and used xe.com to convert it to today’s rate. The 1 Canadian dollar is now worth $1.09779USD and so he would lost $2082.49 in November if the numbers are the same. It’s not even 9am and it’s expected to raised even more today and in the next few weeks.
What does it means for you?
If you are doing business with Canadian companies or would like to advertise on Canadian blogs or sites, now will be the time to buy for the long run. That is, if they still charge American dollars or did not raise the price yet.
For now, I’m “eating” the difference but I might raise my price very soon. But if I would convert the same amount in Canadian currency for the affiliate program, you would also make more.

Activating Adsense in Feedburner 2007-11-06 08:22:35 When I first read about it last week, it was not available in my account. Being from Canada, I suspected that it was US only at first. I checked it today and it’s available. You don’t just drop your Asense id. It’s too simple and unsecured.
I activated the Adsense
option in Feedburner. Once I did that, I went to see if I could see ads in the current RSS feed in Firefox. I saw nothing thus I’m writing this post to force it.
A few things(from memory and I should had taken more mental notes :p ):
You must activate it.
You create an Adsense account if you don’t have one or give information about it.
You will then receive an email from Adsense confirming that you want Feedburner to access some of your account.
When in Adsense, you may want to create a feedburner channel to see how many clicks come from it.
You will be able to configure the layout within Feedburner.

I also found out that about 17-18% are now paying unlike the 6% in my own downline. So, the potential is there.

RSS Count: The New PageRank For Advertisers? 2007-11-12 09:38:56
If you did not heard of it before, a new paid service is offering to increase the RSS count of blogs. The service was using John Chow name but used another email address and fake testimonials. That’s stupid but raised another issue for advertisers.
Can a blogger do it?
Sure, a blogger just need to create a few hundreds free emails(Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail…) and thus be able to raised the RSS count at no cost. A blogger could create a few domains and also do the same. A blogger will also have to request the RSS feed for each email everyday and that will take a little time. The thing, it is not ethical at all and may bite the blogger in the butt.
It’s something that advertisers will have to be aware now.
Is the RSS count the new PageRank
for advertisers?
Google PageRank was often seen as ranking that showed popularity. Buying a few paid text links and you will be able to get a high PageRank within a few months. It’s harder now with the last PageRank

Blogging Zoom sent me 39 visitors so far(Google Analytics). Depending on how much traffic you already get, it could be a drop in a bucket. But for me, that is good.
My post John Chow is Losing $2082.49 only got Zoomed 2 times yet it sent me 7 visitors which is in first place with my A Real Review of Income 4 Beginners(Z5).
My hottest was Recruiting Bloggers, Advertising And Better Affiliates Program which was Zoomed 7 times but sent me 5 visitors.
But my biggest indirect performer so far was Activating Adsense in Feedburner which was Zoomed 6 times but it only sent me 2 visitors. I also wrote indirect because I think it was StumbleUpon because of it may have been found from Blogging Zoom. SU sent me 49 visitors. If you are looking for a new date, you might want to look at Video Dating
on Friendswin. They officially started the service this week. They just started and it shows the potential of the dating service. Video Dating (no login required for viewing but some of them ask for an access code). It’s public for now but I imagine that it won’t be later on or people will put access code for some privacy.
