60 Minutes - Thanks For The Wake Up Call
2007-05-17 06:00:50
Lesley Stahl just might have provided the spark to help rescue an industry from the self-delusional, suicidal clutches of itself. Lesley was misinformed. She was inaccurate. She took a ratings-driven, adversarial, biased approach to the real estate industry. The Realtor® she interviewed to refute Redfin’s claims was weak. If you saw the show you know that. Here’s why all of that was invaluable to you. Lesley Stahl came closer to describing what too many people believe and fear and hate about the real estate business than most REALTORS® are willing to admit. It’s not important that those beliefs are not true. What’s important is that many people believe they are true. Those beliefs are their current reality. They are true for so many people because too few REALTORS® have communicated effectively and changed those perceptions. They are true because enough people have had bad experiences with REALTORS® that have led them to those conclusions, those beliefs. And people lov

Memorial Day Is Right Around The Corner
2007-05-15 23:11:42
It’s time to start planning your Memorial Day messages. RealEstateShows.com makes it easy to create a memorable Memorial day greeting, one that’s personalized with your message. Use your own photos from Memorial Day s past or download stock photos to create a Show you can use as a Memorial Day Greeting card! Here’s a demo. If you’d like to use the same photos we used in this demo show, click here. This will download the folder of images in a zip file. Or, if you’d like to create something more unique, there are also over 2900 photos in this Flickr Creative Commons search on Memorial Day. To use these photos in a Show, simply give attribution to the photographer in the description field for your Show. Here’s another idea: Take photos of the American flags waving from the homes in your community and send out an email or include the Show in a blog post about the community activities that took place. An example of how to celebrate your community spirit.

Do A Virtual Historic Home Tour
2007-05-14 22:16:13
One of the keys to success with RealEstateShows.com is getting your head around the idea that our Shows are not just for listing presentations. Debi Braulik gives us a great example of just how simple and powerful this can be. She took her camera, and ultimately her blog readers, with her on the Tacoma Historical Society’s homes tour. This Show is a perfect example of how to use RealEstateShows.com to add value to your blog posts and further expand your marketing efforts. If Debi hasn’t sent a link to the Historical Society yet, she should. I’m sure they’d love to have a multimedia link to present to their readers. Project Blogger Update
2007-05-09 18:31:45
The Inman Project Blogger Event is full steam and Julie Ferenzi and I are having a blast! Julie has already received a good deal of leads and business from her blogging efforts, so from a pure business standpoint, this is working for her. But on a more personal level, it’s simply an enjoyable process. It’s hard for her to find the time, with four kids, to blog, but she does because she sees it working. I’m impressed with her desire. The Right Music Makes All The Difference
2007-05-05 16:00:07
Music says things words can’t say. So, choosing the right music to go with your Show at RealEstateShows.com is important. Each time you create a Show, we randomly select a song from one of our three main categories, Comfortable, Sophisticated or Dramatic. Sometimes the songs fells right for the Show, but if it does, it’s purely luck. It’s surprising how many people don’t change default song selected. It will seem obvious to us that it doesn’t fit the house, or doesn’t fit the neighborhood the Show is about. That leads us to believe that some of you may not know you can. We’ve provided a library of royalty free music for you to choose from. The music is currently broken down into 19 categories. We regularly add songs to each category, and add new categories as libraries of music become available. Choosing a new song for your Show is really quite simple. The video below only takes 64 seconds to watch. If you’ve never changed the music in o

Use Your Shows to Promote Local Tourism
2007-05-22 08:30:15
One of my favorite things about using RealEstateShows.com is their versatility. I am very proud of my state and would like to share some of our charms with the rest of the world. Through my website, my blog and my Shows, I can do this. My choice of photos, music and titles let me wring nearly any emotion from a Show. Being able to set the focal point through the Camera Movement function allows me to choose what I feel is most important about any scene. Also, each time I show off something using RealEstateShows.com, the more exposure I give myself as well. My branding is right there on each and every Show. The more often you can get your name in front of people, the better, right? And I like that my Shows also let people know my interests. Below you’ll find a Show I did for my town’s annual Civil War Weekend. Using a sepia tone on the pictures helped the Show to feel more authentic. I was pleased to find very fitting banjo music among our music choices. (I never thou

First Things First - Helping A New Agent
2007-05-21 12:28:43
I enjoy helping Newbies. I’m a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Advantage in Hurricane, West Virginia, and we have a new guy. I spent a little time last week showing him how to set up his website and giving him a little advice about what he needs to do to start spreading his name around. My Step One for him was a natural — subscribe to RealEstateShows.com. If you know me, that didn’t surprise you at all. I’m a serious fan. Our new guy is starting from scratch, but he does have a couple lots listed already. I suggested he make Shows of his lots and put them in the MLS and on his website and blog. (Signing up for a blog on ActiveRain was Step Two.) He might have thought that was the end of the Shows, as that was the end of his listings. But no, there’s so much more to do! He can also take a few extra pictures of the neighborhood, make a nice neighborhood Show and link the two shows together. If someone is interested in one of his lots, they’re goin

The Power of “SOLD”
2007-05-25 13:25:54
As you may know, I work as a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Advantage in beautiful Hurricane, WV. (Got to get my plug in there!) One of my coworkers is a wonderful agent named Bonnie Bowles. Bonnie has been in this business for decades and knows real estate up one side and down the other. Technology is another story. Recently, Bonnie bought a laptop. She’s determined to conquer this “tech stuff”. Yesterday she took my advice and signed up for the RealEstateShows.com free trial. I started walking her through the steps of making a show, and when I had to leave I directed her to the RealEstateShows.com tutorials. While working with Bonnie, she said something that gave me an A-ha! moment. I showed her the “Sold” tab on her Shows and mentioned that it looks good to have some Solds in there for potential clients to see. Bonnie, being a veteran agent, said she needed to make up Shows of her previous sales. WOW. Since I “discovered” Real

Your Shows as “Stealth Advertising”
2007-05-24 11:26:38
As independent contractors, we have to do a lot of our own advertising. We not only spread our names everywhere we can online, but then we also advertise in the local house guides, newspapers and sometimes on TV. We mail out postcards and letters. We hand out cards everywhere we go. We’re practically screaming, “Look at me! Look at me!” And still, you run into Uncle Chuck at the grocery store and learn that your cousin just listed his house with someone else. *Sigh* Our friends and families are just as skilled as everyone else at ignoring advertising. It’s not their fault, they’ve been conditioned into it just like the rest of us. So how do you remind people you’re in business without beating them over the head with it? My solution is “stealth advertising.” Send them stuff that they don’t even realize is advertising. Send them something they’ll enjoy for what it is. The best I’ve found for this is RealEstateShows.com. T

The Collectible Real Estate Show
2007-05-23 11:31:09
I’m a big reader. If I don’t have at least three books stacked up waiting for me, I get edgy. Thankfully, my family realizes this, and for Mother’s Day my gift was being turned loose in a bookstore. Aaaah! THAT’S a gift!! My current book is Purple Cow by Seth Godin. I’ve only recently discovered Seth, but I love his style, enthusiasm and unashamed honesty. If he likes a product or idea, you’ll know. If he doesn’t, you’ll know that, too. He’s got a great blog, too! One line in Purple Cow stood out for me. Seth asked, “Could you make a collectible version of your product?” I thought, “YES!” I love making CDs of my Real Estate Shows. When I am a buyer’s agent, I make a Show of my client’s new home as a closing gift, kind of like a “Before”. My hope is that once they’re moved in and have made the home their own (the “After”), they’ll want to go back and compare. The

The Importance of a Good Title
2007-05-29 13:13:02
Your Real Estate Shows can serve many functions, but the main reason you subscribed was likely to help market and sell your listings. The titles you give your Shows can work for you in more ways than you might have imagined. Since the links to your Shows are done by Show number rather than title, you can feel free to change your titles at any time, without creating additional work for yourself. Using your titles to give additional information is not going to mean you have to go around updating links or emailing new info to everyone. It’s a small thing, but it matters. Less work is GOOD, right? You might want to consider changing titles to inform people or update information. Some examples might include: Announce an upcoming “Open House” in your Show title. Giving the date and time might bring in a few more shoppers. (Just remember to post a new title after the open house!) Let everyone know if there’s been a “Price Reduction”. This is big new

Coming Soon To RealEstate Shows.com! We’ve had syndication on our upgrade list for some time and we’re now ready to let everyone know about it. We want to be your resource for promoting and distributing real estate listings. When this update is complete, getting your listings out to sites like Google Base, Edgeio, Trulia, Oodle, Craigslist and more, will be as simple as pressing a button. And Shows of all types will be able to be broadcast via RSS feed as well. When released, each Show you designate will have its own web page. We are still designing the page templates and ironing out the code, but we hope to have these new features launched in the next 60-90 days. Stay tuned. We’re excited this. We hope you are too. A Memorial To A Fallen Friend
2007-05-28 00:46:39
Dave Morehead understands the true meaning of Memorial Day. A few days ago, after reading about our Memorial Day idea, Dave shared with me a couple of short, but powerful emails. Jeff, Thank you for sharing your idea. Thought you might like to see what I did last night using your idea. Thanks for allowing me to finally be able to come to terms with that whole nightmare of what so many of us, both as Vets and as a nation, went through. Dave. [A Tribute To My Best Friend] I see a lot of Shows. So it takes a lot to make me tear up. Dave’s Show made me well up with tears. So, I asked Dave for permission to share his Show and his story with everyone on Memorial Day. Dave agreed it would be an appropriate way to honor the memory of his best friend, Chuckie Davenport. I met Chuckie through a friend of mine when I was about sixteen years old. It’s hard to imagine how you can have so many memories of someone from so many years ago. I guess one reason was that we had so much i

Enhancing Your Neighborhood Expert Status
2007-06-01 09:13:14
RISMedia has been beating the drum of niche marketing lately. Because it works. Some of their recent articles include, Niche Marketing Is Key For Real Estate Agents and Determining a Niche Market Is As Easy As 1, 2, 3. Bill Miles added to that list on Wednesday with Niche Marketing: How To Become A ‘Neighborhood Expert ’. He wrote: While there are thousands of viable niches to pursue, the classic, time-tested niche is a neighborhood. Every real estate professional lives in one and has an equal opportunity to become its expert. Neighborhoods are easy to find, and relevant addresses and homeowners can be quickly identified. Maureen McCabe shows how simple focusing on a neighborhood can be in her post, Worthington Ohio - Memorial Day 2007. She also illustrates how embedding a Show right into the post can enhance the content in a very real way. maureen mccabe, neighborhood, Neighborhoods, niches, niche market, niche marketing, On Other Blogs, real estate agentsIf you liked that

Shows Are For Buyers, Too!
2007-06-01 00:24:49
When you think of your RealEstateShow.com account, you probably think of the benefits to your sellers first. After all, it is a GREAT tool for marketing listings! But there are many, many more uses for your Shows! One of my favorite ways to use my Shows is with buyers. When we look at houses, I make a reminder Show for each house they’d like to keep under consideration. This is useful in many ways. First, I’m right there with my buyers, so I see what parts of the house mean the most to them. I can feature the beautiful back porch or gourmet kitchen as needed. Whatever aspects of the home call to them will be highlighted in their Show. We often look at several (OK, sometimes LOADS) of houses in one day. After a while, too many houses begin to blur in our memories. Which house had the colorful tile backsplash? Which one had that ornate chandelier in the dining room? My reminder Shows will tell them. Even if the houses already have Shows online, I’m still going to make a

I believe you can use your RealEstateShows.com subscription to convey nearly anything to your intended audience. If you doubt me, just keep checking back in and I’ll try my best to make a believer out of you, too! ;o) While trying to tell people about your local area, one of the main topics you’ll hit on is food. Think about that, we name the landmarks, the industry, schools, interesting places and where to eat. We ALL love food. Food also says a lot about a region. It becomes almost a culture of it’s own in some areas. Coastal areas have fresh seafood, Louisiana has spicy Cajun, you’ll find soul food down South, lighter dishes in healthy California and Tex-Mex along our Southern border. Anywhere you go, you’re likely to find something special about the food. Tell your local market and those moving in about the specialties in your area! Even people that have lived in your area for years might have missed a taste of something special. This show by Sally Che

Street View Now Available At RealEstateShows.com
2007-05-30 01:34:56
Google launched a new map feature today. It’s called Street View. And it’s impressive. And if you’re in San Francisco, New York, Miami, Las Vegas and Denver, you can start using it right now in your Shows at RealEstateShows.com. It’s now immediately available in those five cities and it allows you to take a 3D street level tour of major streets and points of interest. The image to the right is taken from this google Street View map along South Las Vegas Boulevard. It’s right in front of my favorite hotel, The Bellagio. Unlike the old, now defunct A9 product, this is a truly interactive 3D experience. Not just static images. You can change your angle of view and move along the street while maintaining that angle. If you head north in my map example on the right, you can actually turn into the Bellagio driveway and go right up to the valet entrance. While we can’t take any of the credit, local Real Estate Shows that highlight points of interest will ge

A Quick Look At Facebook Marketplace
2007-05-29 15:31:28
Listings on Facebook ? Don’t bet against it just because it’s a bit rough around the edges. On May 14th, Facebook officially rolled out their new Marketplace feature. I joined the Los Angeles Region and started my search for a home. In just a few short weeks, there were 153 “listings” in the “housing” area, and 795 in the “for sale” area. It was painful wading through all of the rental properties in the housing area to find a single condo for sale. It was even more painful trying to find a search term that result in an actual house for sale. For example, searching for “house” brought up $2 DVDs of The Adventures of Huck Finn and Frankenstein before a listing for a property titled “my house,” which was being sold for $385,000. There was no photo of “my house,” but it did say it was on the Westside. So… I know it’s got that going for it. I did find a listing with some photos. It’s titl

Starting Things Off Right - Listing Presentations
2007-06-03 10:30:29
I have a listing presentation coming up next week. Many times my partner and I don’t have competition. This time we do. Time to bring out the heavy artillery — I need my Real Estate Shows! I’ll drive by the house ahead of time and take several pictures of the house and even the neighborhood. Since they are only going to be exterior photos, I’ll have to be a little creative. I can hope for a porch swing or pretty flowers, or maybe a freshly painted front door to focus on. I’ll do my best to get flattering angles of their home. Then I’ll whip up a Show at RealEstateShows.com. I’ll make a CD with a nice cover (again, with a picture of their home) to give it to them at the presentation. Next I’ll make up a possible flier and mock up an advertisement. I’ll leave out details I don’t know, but this will make a nice example for my possible clients to look over after I’ve gone. It makes a strong impression for people to

This Show Made Me Want To Move
2007-06-02 08:21:15
I’m sure it’s my love for nature and good nature photography that draws me to Shows like this one. I’m also sure that I’m not the only one out there who will feel the same way! Especially when the subject matter is this good. Craig and Missy Capan took some great photos in a great setting, this is true. But the words they use and the music they chose for this Show about an amazing lot backing to millions of acres just makes me want to sell my house here in LA and move to Eagle, Colorado right now! Work That “WWW” Button!
2007-06-06 18:57:19
When you create a Real Estate Show, you can make it as simple or complex as you like. One button that I think adds a lot of value to your show is the “www” button. To find this, look under the “Edit Buttons” tab while Managing a Show. Entering a link in the “www” box will turn on this feature. Hopefully you have already linked to your website, and that link will appear to the right of your show. But now you have another place you can send people for information. If your Show is about a house you have listed, you could link to a neighborhood website so that potential buyers can learn much more about this particular area. You might link to a city website if there’s not a more closely related website available. Did you make a Show about another business? By all means, link to their website! Share the love! Do you have a blog? If you do, I hope you’re making lots of Shows to embed and illustrate your topics! Link your Shows to their blog po

Giving to Others is a Gift to Ourselves
2007-06-06 00:12:10
From everything, we get out in pretty equal measure what we put in. We do well at work when we’re willing to give an effort and invest in our jobs. Our marriages thrive when we spend time together and remember that this relationship is the core of our lives. Our children need our time much more than our money, and this is an investment that will reward us both for our lifetimes. The same holds true for RealEstateShows.com. You can use your Shows on RealEstateShows.com just to market your listings, and I’m sure you’ll get your money out of it. There really is no better way to showcase your listings! (OK, that’s my opinion, but isn’t it yours, too???) If you only use it for your listings, that’s fine. But, if you put just a little more effort into it, I’m sure your Shows will work for you in so many other ways: Make a show for a locally owned business that you enjoy and watch them pass around the advertising for both of you.
