Graduation Song - Seasons of Love by RENT
2007-05-15 09:59:00
How do you measure a year? In fact how do you measure four years of high school or four to six years of college? Of course you can measure it in days and minutes but what about moments and what about Love? That's why I just love the song from RENT "Seasons of Love" I think it'll top the charts as a graduation song. I saw the musical on Broadway and it was fantastic. Here's the music video -- not as cool as a live performance but it'll make do. five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutesfive hundred twenty five thousand moments so dearfive hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minuteshow do you measure? measure a yearin daylights,in sunsets,in midnights,in cups of coffee,in inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife in five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minuteshow do you measure a year in a life? how about love?how about love?how about love?measure in love...seasons of love...seasons of love... Graduating Mothers
2007-05-07 11:29:00
Graduation and motherhood -- what has each to do with anything? Well apparently a lot! Did you know that only recently having a graduate degree is a plus point to getting married? As close as 1980, the more years you had in graduate school the American woman is less likely to be married and more likely to be childless. This trend had been disappearing only recently. If you have a graduate degree now, you are 14% more likely to be married. Did you hear that ladies? And no, it's not me saying all this nonsense -- it's Elaina Rose, a University of Washington associate professor of economics who did all the study by looking at millions of US census bureau data. And she found that in 1980, a woman that age who had completed three years of graduate school was 14 percentage points less likely to be married than her counterpart with only a high school diploma. By 2000, that 14-point difference had melted to 5. What does that mean? It means if you're a woman and are afraid of not having a fa

High School Graduation Rates in the US
2007-05-03 07:52:00
Back in November 2001 Dr. Jay P. Greene who was a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institution for Policy Research prepared a report for the Black Alliance for Educational Options. Here are some interesting quick facts about the High School Graduation Rates in the US. The national graduation rate for the class of 1998 was 71%. For white students the rate was 78%, while it was 56% for African-American students and 54% for Latino students. Georgia had the lowest overall graduation rate in the nation with 54% of students graduating, followed by Nevada, Florida, and Washington, D.C.Iowa had the highest overall graduation rate with 93%, followed by North Dakota, Wisconsin, andNebraska.Wisconsin had the lowest graduation rate among African-American students with 40%, followed by Minnesota, Georgia, and Tennessee. Graduation Cap Hack!
2007-05-02 08:49:00
How would you like a spinning graduation cap for your graduation? I found Reverend Timothy's Graduation Cap Hack site and it's really really cool. He had his graduation cap spinning while he went to take his diploma during the graduation ceremony! What you'll need are:A kid's costume graduation cap (or if you can get another cap of the original cap and gown, it's better.) An assembled motor setup with a metal support frame, CD-ROM motor, wiring, switch, and a battery pack. Check out the Graduation Cap Hack pics for details. He also wrote about how he got past the administrators and security guys to pull it off. It's a pretty cool trick that you can do on your graduation too -- provided you don't get caught. Graduation Anxieties
2007-04-24 08:28:00
Do you know about Go Ask Alice? It's Columbia University's Health Q&A service. I found out about Senioritis -- an anxiety we tend to contract when we're in senior year. It's something we've all experienced in some form or the other. Things tend to move too fast, you don't want to graduate and you're totally nervous. Well a senior year student who was scared of graduation and here's what Alice had to say... Dear Scared Senior, The scared feeling that you are experiencing concerning graduating from college is completely normal. I'd be willing to bet the house that you are not the only college senior feeling this way. In fact, the reality is that the majority of upperclassmen most likely feel like you do. Any time someone has to undergo a drastic change in their life, a certain amount of anxiety is present. This is why the old adage “no one ever said that change is easy” exists. The good news is that you are aware of your fear of leaving college and have formula

After the Graduation -- saying 'Thank You'

So you've had your graduation creemony and your graduation party. Now what? Are you thinking of sending thank you notes to those who gave you graduation gifts, came to your party or graduation ceremony? Well, here's what you can do -- 1) Thank people by using an informal stationery -- a formal one is not really necessary. But just because it doesn't have to be on a formal stationery doesn't mean that you grab any paper you see and scribble down a note. There are 2) Make specific reference to the subject of the note, like "Thanks for the iPod." 3) Send thank you notes if - someone hosted a graduation party for you.for graduation gifts received over the mail. Even if you received gifts in person and have thanked them, it's still nice to send a note. you've received notes of gifts congratulating you.Send this Graduation Thank You eCard !4) Send your thank you notes as soon as possible. 5) Personalize your notes as much as possible -- DON'T print them in advance and distribut

7 simple things to keep in mind for your graduation party
2007-04-17 08:52:00
Graduation date is pretty much decided by the school or the college but what about your graduation party date? Have you picked one yet? There's a couple of things to consider when you're picking the date for your graduation party. You have to consider both your family and your friends and pick a date that's going to work for them and you. Here's a list of 7 simple things to consider when you're planning your graduation party: 1. How long will it take to prepare for the party and which dates work best for your family? 2. Which dates work best for your relatives? Are they bringing any children who are still in school? Because a lot of towns celebrate all night party just after the graduation ceremony. 3. Are there other parties or events going on around that time? If so when? Check out with your school for end of the year banquets. Talk to your coaches, teachers and advisers for information on other sort of events not listed in your school district calender. Check in with Church

Give Your Graduation a Boost

Graduation seem easy for some of us but out of every 10 high school students, chances are 4 won't make it to graduation. It's sponsored by the Ad Council and US Army. You can also go through the other sections like the Gallery to see the messages that other people have posted. You can even Boost your friend for graduation – the site is just a wealth of information to help you, your child or your friend get through high school graduation. Graduation Gown: Color Codes
2007-04-14 07:44:00
Graduation gowns are color coded. Do you know what color your major has? You might think that the whole color coding system was done since the by gone days but it was standardized only in the US in the late 19th century. Here's a list of which field of learning has what color: WHITE : was taken from the white fur trimming of the Oxford and Cambridge Arts hoods and was assigned to arts and letters. RED: is the traditional colors of the church so it went to theology. GREEN: was the color of medieval herbs so it was adopted for medicine. OLIVE: since it was so close to green went for Pharmacy. GOLDEN YELLOW: which stood for wealth where scientific research was produced was assigned for the sciences. Send this eCard ! All of the colors were standardized in 1895 with the help of Gardner Cotrell Leonard when Intercollegiate Commission met at Columbia. Graduation Gifts: Candles
2007-04-13 07:34:00
Receiving a graduation announcement sometimes mean that you should give a gift to the graduate. When it comes to even normal gifts like birthday or anniversary gifts we wreck our brains trying to figure out what we have to give. So what do we give when it comes to graduation?! Ronnie Halsema of Zionsville Candle Company has the perfect solution. Give candles -- and not just any candles, it's environmentally safe and organic. Zionsville Candle Company makes candles that are based out of oil. So if the graduate is into environmental protection or is conscious about organic products it's the perfect gift. If the graduate is not into those things then it's time to get educated on organic products out there. Send this eCard ! Bono Graduation Speech
2007-04-12 10:18:00
I just found this speech by Bono (yes, of U2 Fame) who received an honorary Doctorate from Penn State – here's a snippet of it that I really liked -- "So I humbly accept the honor, keeping in mind the words of a British playwright, John Mortimer it was, "No brilliance is needed in the law. Nothing but common sense and relatively clean fingernails." Well at best I've got one of the two of those. But no, I never went to college, I've slept in some strange places, but the library wasn't one of them. I studied rock and roll and I grew up in Dublin in the '70s, music was an alarm bell for me, it woke me up to the world. I was 17 when I first saw The Clash, and it just sounded like revolution. The Clash were like, "This is a public service announcement--with guitars." I was the kid in the crowd who took it at face value. Later I learned that a lot of the rebels were in it for the T-shirt. They'd wear the boots but they wouldn't march. They'd smash bottles on their heads but they

Graduation Poem: The Road Not Taken
2007-04-11 08:32:00
Probably one of the most famous graduation poems is Robert Frost's “The Road Not Taken ”. You can even use it in your graduation ceremony. The Road Not Takenby Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel bothAnd be one traveler, long I stoodAnd looked down one as far as I couldTo where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair,And having perhaps the better claim,Because it was grassy and wanted wear;Though as for that the passing thereHad worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden black.Oh, I kept the first for another day!Yet knowing how way leads on to way,I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference.Send this eCard !Send this eCard !

Commencement Speech - Jon Stewart
2007-05-18 12:27:00
Sometimes colleges and universities get celebrities to give the commencement speeches -- that way, there's no need for public relations stuff. But sometimes they just give the celebrity an honorary degree so he or she could give the commencement speech as well as bring the media. That's exactly what the College of William & Mary did with Jon Stewart and here's the commencement speech he gave:Thank you Mr. President, I had forgotten how crushingly dull these ceremonies are. Thank you. My best to the choir. I have to say, that song never grows old for me. Whenever I hear that song, it reminds me of nothing. I am honored to be here, I do have a confession to make before we get going that I should explain very quickly. When I am not on television, this is actually how I dress. I apologize, but there’s something very freeing about it. I congratulate the students for being able to walk even a half a mile in this non-breathable fabric in the Williamsburg heat. I am sure the environment

How to take Great Graduation Pictures
2007-05-22 01:18:00
Taking pictures on Graduation Day is a big deal. If they don't turn out ok, you won't get a second chance at them. Here's a coupe of tips I found on About.com that you can follow --Prepare properly Here's a check list from Kodak Canada that you should go through: Fully charge batteries the day before Place a spare set of batteries with the camera Empty the picture card so you get the maximum number of pictures Put the picture card in the camera Bring a spare picture card if you're taking lots of pictures (Or if you're a fast shooter like me.) Bring an accessory telephoto lens Know how to turn on your camera flash for use in bright daylight Take a few pictures and make sure everything is working right Make sure you check all this a day before at least so you know you have the stuff right.I'm ready for my close up Mr. DeMille --Ask the school or the person in charge where you would be able to take pictures. Celebrating Graduations - Commencement
2007-05-28 02:32:00
Welcome to the May 28, 2007 edition of Celebrating Graduations - Graduation Blog Carnival!I have the first entry for this week from TherapyDoc who wrote that "There really is a difference between them, you know." aboutCommecement at Every One Needs Therapy. It's a really fitting post to start this blog carnival and big THANKS! to Therapy Doc. So without further ado, here's his post...The truth? Graduation's a real trick box for me.I missed every one of my own except for 8th grade. I graduated high school early and college late (with free housing and tuition, wouldn't you?)Both the Master's and the PhD ceremonies at the University of Illinois took place on Saturdays. So over the years I've made it my business to go to these things when I could, make a presence in the school auditoriums, bleachers and gyms. True, it wasn't easy sitting through the many leaps into eternity, but having a pager (in the days before cell phones we had pagers) it was easy to excuse myself to find a phone.
