8 year old golfer in Malaysian pro-am
2008-03-05 19:35:02
Rory McIlroy, who is eyeing a place in this year's European Ryder Cup team, was awe-struck by the performance of his eight-year-old playing partner in Wednesday's Malaysian Open pro-am. McIlroy recorded a hole-in-one on the way to a nine-under 63 at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club but it was young nine-handicapper Galvin Green who left a lasting impression on the 18-year-old from Northern Ireland. "He (Green) is absolutely awesome," McIlroy told the European Tour's official Web site (www.europeantour.com). "I really can't get over how good he is and that really made the day. "He is an incredibly talented prospect for the future. It was nice to play with him and even though I played pretty well, he made me look pretty average." The 4-foot-7 Green, who romped t

Hush little baby
2008-03-05 19:30:53
I remember when I looked at my baby for the first time. I had no idea what to do and no idea of what was in store for me as a parent. Any parent would agree that you learn pretty quickly though. I learned all about the useful things that make life easier and one of these was the baby sling. Pictured below, the baby sling is possibly the most useful invention of all time. It frees up your hands and your natural movements soothe the baby to sleep, in a word these things are a godsend! Make sure you test a few different types out and find the one you are most comfortable with. I guarantee that you will not regret the purchase!

The Eglish Open is back on the european tour
2008-03-04 18:43:37
The English Open will return to the European Tour schedule in 2009 after an absence of seven years.Last played at the Forest of Arden golf club in central England, the event will return to its orginal home at St Mellion in Cornwall, south-west England. St Mellion last hosted a Tour event in 1995 when Australia’s Peter O’Malley won the Benson and Hedges International Open on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course. Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke was the last winner of the English Open in 2002, when he captured the title for the third time in four years.

Calling Cards
2008-03-04 18:39:35
I collected calling cards as a kid and I clearly remember looking through all the pay phones in my area in case someone had left a card in it. I just liked collecting the different types of cards especially ones from overseas that I had never seen before*. If there was any money left on them that was just a bonus. In my later years I learned how to check the trash section of the pay phones to get all the cards that were thrown away, but by that time everyone knew the trick and my interest waned. Funnily enough though I never actually used a calling card until I visited the US and I wanted to call home (Australia). It was really easy to purchase Australia phone cards and the price for calls was not as high as I thought it would be. It was when I saw the card though that it brought back all

Crazy golf story
2008-03-04 18:30:36
Most parents will admit that when they are late for a child's appointment they will "fly" to get there. A Lake Villa man actually took that sentiment literally when he flew his plane from Wisconsin to the golf course of Lincolnshire Marriott Resort because his 14-year-old was late for his tennis lesson at the Lincolnshire Club. The pilot, Robert Kadera of Lake Villa, was at Ernie's Towing Service in Vernon Hills on Monday afternoon, replacing the plane's skis with tires. He was planning to move the plane off the towing lot.He said he did not want to make a comment until he found out what police were going to do about the incident.Lincolnshire police and the Lake County state's attorney's office are reviewing the incident, according to Lincolnshire police Detective John-Erik And

Insurance - Piece of mind
2008-03-04 18:17:57
To protect what you own Insurance really is one of life's necessities. Whether you are protecting a car, house, personal items (including those golf clubs of course) or anything else insurance can bring you piece of mind if something were to go wrong. Recently I increased my contents insurance after going through the house and realizing I had much more stuff than I had accounted for. By doing this I found that I had quite seriously undervalued my contents insurance estimate. As I was doing this I also took photos of everything of value to make sure I can get everything replaced if something goes wrong. You could even go one step further and write down all the serial numbers for the expensive electronics that you own. This makes replacing the exact model much easier. The next step is to vi

Fishing
2008-03-03 18:31:26
It is pretty obvious that one of my passions in life is golf, but the other interest that takes up the rest of my time is my love of fishing. Forced to choose between the two it would make a very tough decision. I like to get away from it all - and a little cabin on a lake or river is my kind of holiday! There are many cabins available these days and this means that anyone can get away from it all for a few days.Bighorn River Cabins offer some of the finest cabins I have ever seen. These montana cabin rentals come with all the modern amenities and even using the word cabin to describe them seems a little unfair (I swear they are bigger than my house!). They even include a 50 inch plasma TV with the NFL package which is my kind of "roughing it." Don't get too comfortable though as the best

Ochoa wins HSBC Champions Tournament
2008-03-02 19:23:50
World No.1 Lorena Ochoa cruised to an 11-stroke win at the $US2 million ($A2.11 million) Women's Champions tournament on Sunday on her season debut. Sweden's Annika Sorenstam finished second on nine under with American Paula Creamer in third place two shots further back. Australia's Karrie Webb finished in a tie for fifth with American Stacy Prammanasudh on five under, 15 shots off the pace. On a day when monsoon-like storms sent spectators sprinting for cover and left others cowering under umbrellas, Mexican Ochoa produced a solid 68 for a combined 20-under par at the Tanah Merah Country Club. Play was suspended several times due to the torrential downpours that submerged greens, left puddles on the fairways and had players kicking their heels in the clubhouse. The final group took ei

Ernie Els wins Honda Classic
2008-03-02 17:21:58
This time, Ernie Els could enjoy someone else's final-round misfortune. Ending nearly a four-year drought between PGA Tour victories, Els shot a 3-under 67 Sunday to win The Honda Classic . He finished at 6 under, one shot better than Luke Donald (71) and two ahead of Nathan Green (67). "It's been a long time coming," Els said. Els and Mark Calcavecchia were tied for the lead as the sun began setting on PGA National. But Calcavecchia hit into a greenside bunker at the par-3 15th, and his shot from the sand looked fine when it hit the green. Somehow, it never stopped rolling. The ball came to rest on a rock ledge across the green. Calcavecchia walked over, tossed the ball into the water and made a double bogey to give Els the outright lead. Els made a cool

Mark Brown wins Johnnie Walker Classic
2008-03-02 17:20:17
Unheralded New Zealander Mark Brown surged up the leaderboard with a stunning back nine to capture the Johnnie Walker Classic title on Sunday.Brown, who was four shots behind at the turn, fired four consecutive birdies and another at the last to reel in Taichiro Kiyata as the overnight leader faltered, winning by three shots with five-under 67 for 18-under-par 270.The 33-year-old, who only recently returned to golf after a brief stint in the mid-1990s, landed the biggest payday of his career -- 420,000 dollars -- for his second straight victory after last week's Sail Open.Japan's Kiyota carded 71 for 15-under-par 273, tied for second with Australian Greg Chalmers and Englishman Graeme Storm at the par-72 DLF Golf and Country Club.Triple major winner Vijay Singh closed with 69 for nine-unde

He's one stroke ahead of New Zealand's Mark Brown (64) and India's Jyoti Randhawa (68), playing on his home course."This is unbelievable. I'm obviously very excited to be on top of the leaderboard. It's the first time for me to be in such a position," said the 27-year-old Kiyota, who hasn't won in five years as a pro. "I may not be able to sleep well tonight."Vijay Singh shot a 69 and is tied for 10th overall in the tournament jointly sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.Brown, who at one point in his career gave up golf and took up an office job for t

Golf pro, computers and plumbing
2008-03-02 02:20:29
When my friend was training to be a golf pro he often talked about his experiences with me. He knew he was never going to make it on the professional tour, but he still wanted to pursue his dream on earning a living through his favorite pastime - golf. I would also talk about my training experiences with him and we found that even though our industries seemed completely separate (I am in the computer industry) there were many similarities in our training. It seems as long as you are doing something that interests you, even Plumbing Courses then you are most likely to succeed in your profession. If you are interested my friend makes an excellent club pro and has taught many people to love the game as much as he does!

Johnnie Walker Classic - Day 2 Wrap
2008-02-29 19:04:32
India's Shiv Kapur fired a 7-under par 65 on Friday to take a share of the lead with Unho Park of Australia after two rounds of the Johnnie Walker Classic . Kapur sank an eagle and five birdies to log a two-round aggregate of 10-under par 134 and join Park, whose 6-under par 66 in the second round at the DLF Golf and Country Club featured eight birdies and two bogies. In a tightly-packed leaderboard, world No. 5 Adam Scott and three-time major winner Vijay Singh were within striking distance of the lead, but Ryder Cup stars Colin Montgomerie of Scotland and England's Ian Poulter missed the cut at the $2.5 million (€1.66 million) event. Japan's Taichiro Kiyota and Indian Jyoti Randhawa were one stroke behind the leaders, with Scott in a four-way tie for the fifth spot at eight-under par

Mock drug tests annoy golfers
2008-02-29 02:20:38
LPGA players, miffed at a drug-testing procedure that took hours for some last week at the Fields Open in Hawaii, were slightly less than amused to find out the whole thing was merely a trial run and not the real thing. Some of the players, in Singapore for the HSBC Champions, were whispering that the test had been compromised in some way, a charge flatly denied by LPGA officials."That's absolutely not true," Jill Pilgrim, the tour's general counsel, told Golf World. "We decided in advance to do a trial run so we could see the process in a real-time situation. The only thing we did not do was send the samples to the lab," she said, adding that the players were not told it was merely a trial. "We learned some processes we need to tweak, such as seeing how the notification process works," P

Bad credit or fairway bunker
2008-02-28 18:40:26
Bad credit is like being caught on the lip of the fairway sand trap. It seems like there is no way out and it doesn't feel very nice at all. When stuck in bad credit you need some help and the best place to go is to a company that deals with the problem every day. Bad credit offers is one such company and they deal with lenders who will give people with bad credit a second chance. They have many products available including credit cards for bad credit.

Honda Classic - Day 1 wrap
2008-02-28 18:32:55
uke Donald's opening round in The Honda Classic was far from perfect. He missed five greens and seven fairways, including five straight on the back nine. And conditions at windy, cool PGA National were hardly optimal for scoring.Yet somehow, Donald found a way to post the Honda's best score in three years.A bogey-free 64 Thursday gave Donald a one-shot lead over Brian Davis and a two-shot edge on Matt Jones after the first round of the Honda — an event Donald won two years ago when it was at nearby Mirasol, a considerably easier track."I did a lot of good things around the greens and when I had my chances I took them," Donald said. "I didn't drive it particularly well. I need to improve that. I probably hit only half the fairways, which is not quite good enough. Apart from that, everythin

Accidents will happen
2008-02-28 18:30:33
You could say there is an atmosphere of law in the air these days. People are always complaining to me that "everyone sues everyone these days." While this seems to be the case I am still of the opinion that people who are victims of accidents should be entitled to compensation to cover their medical bills and other losses. Now this doesn't mean I like to hear about people and million dollar lawsuits over hot coffee, but I do think people have the right to make Accident Claims where appropriate. I always tell people to remember that most people don't get millions of dollars in an accident claim, but it is those claims you hear about sensationalized in the media.I have never made such a claim, but have many friends that have and they are certainly not instant millionaires. Most have simply

Social Network for golfers
2008-02-28 17:45:04
Social networks are the big thing on the Internet at the moment and by the looks of it they will remain the big thing for some time. It seems a new myspace or facebook is popping up all the time and the biggest sites just keep getting stronger. Today I came across Stracka A Social Network for Golfers that looks the goods.Stracka offers many features and services that golfers will find interesting and down right useful. They provide interactive yardage maps together with course information for many popular courses which include flyover tours. I can see this service being very popular and I would use it before playing an unfamiliar course. Some courses even have a Stracka line guide included which provides a 3D topographical map of each green so you will know what you are up against before

Tiger is on a different level?
2008-02-27 17:56:14
World number five Adam Scott on Wednesday dismissed any notion of mounting a sustained challenge to Tiger Woods, who he said was on a "different level ." The Australian was tipped by coaching guru Butch Harmon as the biggest future competitor for the top-ranked Woods, whose dominance reached new heights last week with his sixth successive win. "No pressure, right?" smiled Scott, who headlines the 2.5-million-dollar Johnnie Walker Classic here. "I certainly have a desire to do that but it seems like I put together the pieces of the game very slowly so he always seems to be getting further and further ahead, which is not very encouraging," he said. "I feel like I've developed a lot as a golfer over the last few years and I feel that I've got the right attitude and the right mindset in pla

Money worry
2008-02-26 17:39:38
I was saying last week that I love to read blogs and news stories (especially finance related ones) - it's almost an addiction really. While reading today I found an article talking about lenders not passing on Interest cuts for their Mortgage products. I think that this is terrible really. Imagine the official interest rate falling, but your lender decides that it is not going to cut their rates to make another few million. We give these big lenders our loyalty and what do we get? Jacked up fees and sloppy customer service. If my lender didn't cut fees with the official interest rate falling I would be looking for a new lender!

Andalucian Open - Round 1 Wrap

Lee Westwood made a brilliant start to the defence of his Andalucian Open at the Aloha Golf Club with a first round seven-under-par 65 to lead the tournament. The Englishman fired seven birdies and no bogeys to go one shot clear of 20-year-old amateur star Danny Willett, who shot a round of 66.Veteran star Jose Maria Olazabal carded a decent round of 71 on his return from a seven month injury lay-off, while Darren Clarke could only manage to finish on one-over after suffering from blisters on both feet.Leader Westwood said: "I'm playing with a lot of freedom at the moment and a 65 shows I've got a lot of confidence."I used a similar game-plan to last year but my game's always a work in progress. I've got a few things I'm working on with one eye on the Masters."But the day really belonged to

Detox for weight loss
2008-03-27 22:51:42
I have touched on the subject before, but I am a firm believer that golfers who keep themselves fit and in top condition play their best golf. One of the best ways to keep in great condition is to detox. Detox is a bit of a buzz word, but it basically means eating very healthily, drinking lots and taking a good detoxing supplement like orovo detox. These detoxing supplements contain the commonly called "superfoods" including many antioxidants, which help fight free radical damage (sun, stress, pollution, bad food, alcohol etc.) and cleanse your body. This can result in a decent energy boost, will even help you lose a few pounds along the way and you might even look younger! Orovo is 100% natural and is easy to order through the website. Orovo detox has plenty of supporters and there are h
