Arch Power Outage 2007-07-23 09:27:00 This story was sent to you by: Hosay_--------------------Arch Power Outage--------------------By Kelley HoskinsJuly 22, 2007, 2:23 PM CDTOne of two trams that takes visitors to the top of the arch is back in service, but the other is still closed after a power outage forced two hundred people to stay inside the Arch for several hours.Arch officials say it appears one of nine cables pulling the South Tram failed and came in contact with an electrified rail, causing the system to blow a fuse. However, last night's commotion did not stop visitors from taking a ride today.The power failure happened around 8:45 Saturday night. The St. Louis Fire Department says it appears there were roughly 40 people in each tram, 100 at the top of the Arch and others in loading zones."The tram is just like any other elevator, they are mechanical.
