Tony 2007-09-22 11:17:42 When Tony came off the plane and I met him at the airport, I was glad to see his tail wagging and a happy face. It seemed he wasn’t much phased by the trip. He seemed confident and a sweetheart.
He went to stay with a friend of mine who does all breed rescue for a week while I was at dog camp. She said he was a wonderful, sweet boy, and he liked to bark a bit. She took him on walks and he had a great time. He loves walks!
After I got back from camp I took Tony into our house. Again he seemed to be happy to be around. As far as I know, Tony had to be surrendered by his Dad because the Dad had to go into a nursing home. The Dad’s son got Tony, but didn’t want to keep him so left him in a shelter. Houston Collie Rescue pulled him out. But he had to go into boarding for four months, because they are so swamped they don’t have enough foster homes for all their dogs.
Tony loves being in a home. He is very affectionate, gets along with all the other dogs, and stil
All Is Smooth…. 2007-09-21 22:03:10 You know, sometimes luck just happens and you shoot a great picture without even realizing it until you load it up on the laptop. There was just a frenzie of play down here in our basement, it was high spirited and fun. And I snapped this great picture of Hudson and Bianca engaged in their romp.
Aren’t they just dolls? I love them both.. I love them all. Bianca and Tatum are having a hard time stopping their play, it may be crate time for the Tater Tot. Sometimes it’s hard for her to settle down. But she is so happy, and she has so much energy, that I like to let her wear herself out if she will.
Tomorrow I should have some time to post some detailed updates about all four of the collies. Though I think I will be fading Tatum from this blog… and posting more about her on my own dog blog, Tip Tail. Because yeah, we are pretty sure we can’t let this wonderful girl go.
I’m going to need to buy a minivan next, or a big truck with lots of truck access
Tatum 2007-09-20 14:40:40 Well, one of these four Houston collies may already have a home…. with.. errr… well, me. :p
I just love Tatum. She is the exact collie I have been looking for.. not that I’ve been looking, really. But she is small, which I like. She has a lot of spunk, which I like. And she’s curious and recovers from being nervous very quickly.
I am clicker training her already. She hasn’t quite learned how to learn, yet, but she will. She taught herself the dog door in no time. She loves other dogs, and is good with people. She would be an awesome agility, obedience, flyball… and maybe even herding dog.
She is still on Petfinder, but I’m kinda of the mind that we can’t keep her, but we can’t give her up, either.
We could use a bigger house, as this would put us up to five keeper dogs. Maybe we could find some Wilmington NC real estate. Though I’m not sure I’d want to move back east.
Our Fundraiser! 2007-09-20 14:37:40 Hey Our fund raiser is raising money! We need the help for the collies in Utah! Thanks for contributing, if you already have.. and if you have not, we hope you will.
Collies sometimes come to us matted and injured. Grooming is essential to get their skin and coats in good shape. A matted collie can have a lot of skin problems, and be very uncomfortable, even in pain, if the mats pull at his skin. And many of the dogs come in and need their teeth cleaned (we have two scheduled now) and those can get pricey.
So please help us out, thanks!

Dog Store 2007-09-19 07:47:00 The mornings are pretty energetic at our house now. Tatum is a bundle of energy and wants to play and play. I haven’t bought much for these fosters because they came with everything they need. Leashes, collars, some toys… but we have lots of toys. And lots of food and other things they need.
Shopping for dog things is really fun, though. I can be like a kid in a candy store. And I love looking for distinctive dog collars. My regular dogs have a number of collars for various activities. Sports, walking, camping… home.
The Gilded Paw is a fun store for fancy dog items. Check out the dog collar link above to reach their site. If you are interested in buying fun dog things you’ll want to see what they have!
This is a sponsored post to help support collie rescue.

A bit more quiet 2007-09-18 15:09:17 Well, I took Sonny off Petfinder today… I drove him down to his new home yesterday evening. Very nice family… and cross your fingers so it all works out! I never count on it 100% until a few months have gone by and everything settles down.
Sonny is a sweet boy and he will be a joy to his new family. Please everyone wish them the best. I gave Sonny a bath on Sunday, should have brushed him more but I didn’t have enough time. Alas… he smells sweet and is a happy boy.
Vet Check 2007-09-17 22:15:56 Well I took all four of the Houston collies in for a vet check today. My vet is so great, they said they usually cringe when someone brings in four dogs at the same time. But these guys are so sweet and wonderful. Bianca and Hudson just laid down when it wasn’t there turn, and Tatum did so as well, on the bench. Tony wanted every turn to be his turn because he loves attention so much, so I had to hold onto him.
They were all very calm and sweet and wonderful. They are all healthy, too, as we really did know from the papers and the contacts that came with them. Hudson has a weird little bump under his right eye, but they think it’s just a cycst. I’ll have to ask his old foster home if he had that before. I haven’t noticed it until a couple days ago, but with being so busy in the house he may have come with it.
Tony needs a teeth cleaning so we got that scheduled. He also has kinda goopey eyes so we got some cream for those. And he wouldn’t let the vet ch Read more:Check
Maternity Clothes Anyone? 2007-09-15 21:48:36 Okay, a bit off topic here but it’s to support the collies.
I have never been pregnant myself, and I don’t plan on being so. However, I’m always looking for nice clothes and when I find a site that has some nice clothes for women, of any kind, I like to report about it. And if you are looking for maternity clothes (as some of our potential adopters might be!) then you might want to check these out.
I like the layout of their site, and they have some nice looking clothes! From tank tops to long sleeve. From short sleeves to dresses. I like the look, I wish they also carried clothes that were non-maternity.

Sonny’s Teeth 2007-09-28 09:42:58 We were lucky enough to be able to see Sonny
again yesterday. He came up so our regular vet can do a teeth cleaning on him. Well, the vet found that his teeth were worse than they had originally thought. He had many exposed roots which probably caused him a lot of pain, poor guy.
They ended up pulling 10 teeth! He should still be able to eat just fine after his stitches heal up. I find it interesting that on his vet bill each tooth is listed. Some were surgically extracted. He needs to be on soft food for a week or so.
His family was happy to get him back last night. Sonny is such an amazing dog. I was glad to see that he remembered me and was happy to see me again.
Sonny’s vet bills came to over $300, which was a lot more than we expected. If you can help donate to cover these costs please use the Fund Raiser Box in the right menu of the site. We would really appreciate it! We have already raised $40.00! And, your donation is tax deductible because we received our 501(c)(3)
Business Networking 2007-09-28 09:04:28 In rescue, one of the things that is very critical is developing a network where people help each other, and the dogs, find homes. Rescue can be considered a home-based business, as it takes a great deal of time, effort, and we work from our homes fostering and training dogs. The network across the USA for Collie Rescue is amazing, and I am impressed by how many people step up and help each other out for the support and love of the collies.
For profit home businesses might benefit from Direct Matches, which has 65,000 members and can help you grow your network with this company that has an 8 year record of success. They even have a free membership with free advertising, classifieds and networking. You can visit their forums and meet other people who are in the network and get you started with a business. If you are thinking of starting a home based business you might want to check it out and see what information they can share to help starting your business be much easier.

Bianca 2007-09-27 10:40:48 Bianca is such an amazing, wonderful girl. Her favorite things are playing with Tatum and eating treats and food. The first few days she was with us she didn’t want to eat much, but after that she settled in and now thinks we don’t feed her enough, and is always trying to convince us to feed her more!
Bianca is a beautiful girl. She has a sweet face and is very friendly. Bianca was a bit shy in her temporary foster home with my sister when I was at dog camp. She was the only dog there. I think if she goes to a home as an only dog, it may take her a little longer to settle in than if she had a doggy friend or two to keep her company and play with her.
Bianca sleeps in her crate at night, and is excited to run in when a treat is offered for her to go inside. She loves treats of all kinds. He is a well adjusted good girl who gets along with all our other dogs. She is not so good with cats, and she needs to go to a non cat home. We love Bianca, and we will miss her when s Read more:Bianca
A Trip to the Park 2007-10-10 16:38:41 I forgot to bring my camera, dangit. I took Tatum, Tony and Angel (Angel is our keeper collie) to the dog park today. We have a really nice large walking dog park that has recently been officially granted off leash status. And I want to get Tatum out and socialize her as much as possible. Tony.. well, he doesn’t really need socialization, because he is such a friendly bug and he soooooo loves walks! He was very excited in the car getting to the park. And once we were there he was awesome. I let him off leash and he made sure I was always in site.
The park is large, it’s about a mile up and back. Tony even jumped in the water and almost swam, he was easily up to his tummy. I didn’t know he liked the water! He sniffed and checked things out and had a great time. Angel did good too but she is getting older so we went slow for her. And Tatum also did great. She even got some off leash time herself. I worry about her because she doesn’t recognize that coming
Tatum and Bianca 2007-10-06 19:26:23 We have discovered that Tatum is a great helper when it comes to cleaning floors. As you can see by this picture, she decided to put paper towels all over the front room tile. We are hoping her intent was to clean the floors, but we are not sure sure about this. Bianca
, standing innocently by and looking at the camera, was just wondering what on earth Tatum was doing.
And here is a nice side shot of Tatum. I’ve been wondering if she has a nice front or not, or if she has a straight front. I really don’t have a very good eye for such things. She seems to ‘feel’ right to me. Her rear seems nice, her body proportion to her legs feels good. But her front seems a bit straight. However, from what I have heard, many collies have problems with straight fronts. The only reason I really care is because the better conformation they have… the better structure, they better they should be at performance events. And the more healthy they are structurally.
Thundering Herd 2007-10-03 09:39:16 We sure have a fun group here at collie rescue. Just this morning it sounded like a thundering herd of horses running through the house. Except for the play growls also going on at the same time. They tear around the basement, then they run upstairs and tear around there for a while. The dog door is closed because they were barking at the neighbors, and we can’t have any of that. We want good relations with the neighbors!
Looks like we have a good home prospect for Hudson already. And we have only had him a month. He is such a doll. We are looking forward to see how things work out. We will miss him terribly, but we know he’ll get more attention in a home of his own.
We are not in need of any drug treatment at this house, because of all the happy dogs!
Melting in the Rain 2007-10-17 08:04:01 Well apparently not all collies melt in the rain. Our collies.. well, our older collies, have tried to convince me for years and years that when it’s raining, they surely will melt and cannot go outside.
Tatum and Bianca have now blown this theory out of the water. Especially Tatum. They will both go out in the rain and play, chew bones, or run around. And so me and my regular dogs stand inside at the door watching them. My collies look at me and still try to convince me that no, if they go our in the rain, surely they will melt.
Even if they had a real estate franchise still they would try to tell me they would melt. Alas… now I know it is not true!
We Love you Sammy 2007-10-16 20:48:40 I am very sorry to say that Sammy
left this world a week ago and went to explore the great afterlife. No one knew he had cancer, the family that had to give him up, his foster home (us), or his new family. We are still getting in the details of his passing, but he left this world last week in his sleep. We do know he had advanced lympho-sarcoma.
We are very sad, and have shed more than one tear. We love you Sammy, we miss you, and we are glad and enriched that you touched our lives.
Each dog that comes through our house takes a piece of our heart with them when they go. But somehow, we are richer for losing that piece of our heart. And we wouldn’t trade getting to know these wonderful dogs for a million dollars. The dogs are so much more valuable than any amount of money.
Run free, Sammy. We will always miss you.
Easy Going 2007-10-14 21:48:53 Things are going very well at the Collie house. Bianca is really settling in. She is a complete doll and I am very surprised we have not received calls on her. She is mellow and sweet, great with other dogs, a great size, and a wonderful companion.
Tony is also a doll. He really needs someone to love him forever. I adore him. He loves toys and attention and just being with people. He likes other dogs, but would be just fine as an only dog with all the attention on him!
And good news.. Hudson is in his new home. I miss him very much. I have been getting updates and he is nervous and shy, but the family he is with has a lot of patience and they will give him all the time and love he needs to relax. Hudson breaks my heart whenever I think about him. Such a wonderful amazing boy, and he went through too much.
Hudson and Bianca both were from an animal ‘collector’. Someone who had too many dogs, more than she could take care of. She was busted, but the dogs she had were t Read more:Going
The Hike 2007-10-25 22:29:16 Oh, and since I’m posting pictures, here is one of Levi (my collie) and Chase (my Border Collie) in the shade of some narrows we found. It was such a nice temperature in the shade. The sun was a bit hot, around 80ish, but the shade was very nice.
From my experience with collies, it seems collies don’t like the heat very much. They prefer the cool weather. Levi has a lot more energy, and does much better in agility, when the weather is cooler. Even the snow and the cold is what they prefer over the heat. Me, as a human, I prefer the heat! Either way, I like to find wholesale clothing that is appropriate for the weather. I wish I could find some nice big sweater for the dogs.
Sleepy 2007-10-25 21:49:14 Well since I’m still in Nevada I don’t have much to report about the collies in Utah. All is well, though. Tony loves walks, and Bianca loves to snuggle. I have Levi to snuggle with, so am posting a picture of him. He’s my smooth blue boy, my heart and soul. He gets to do agility tomorrow and I hope he’s not too tired from being in a hotel for a week.
I wish I had some espresso machines, especially one for the hotel room. The coffee at the last hotel was actually quite horrible. I want good coffee! But it’s free continental breakfast and I didn’t want to buy coffee myself.

Collie Play 2007-10-24 13:12:40 well Tony is staying with a friend this week and my husband tells me it’s quieter with only four dogs at the house for him to watch, since my two regular boys are down here with me in Nevada. He is taking them for walks and they are all doing well. He is even leaving Tatum out at night… which I don’t do, because she tends to walk on other dogs and if she walks on Lucy then there might be some problems.
We’ve gotten a call on Bianca, a family in Idaho. North of Boise. I need to find someone to do a home check up there. Anyone know any rescue folk in the Boise area? It sounds like a very good home. Boise is a bit far for me to go in a weekend! I just need to retire…
Maybe using an unlocked phone would help for contacts.

Taking a Break 2007-10-23 22:57:02 Well I am in Nevada this week, getting on the internet only occasionally. From what I hear all the collies are doing great back home. Tony went to stay with a friend of mine and her two dogs. The same person who watched him when I was gone to Dog Camp that week.
My Husband tells me that both Tatum and Bianca are doing great with our cats. Tatum is a bit wary of them and stays away. And Bianca just sniffs them and then ignores them. This is great! Both Tatum and Bianca will bark when there is a strange noise on the TV, and I was told that if there was a cat on the TV Bianca would get excited. However, in real life, Bianca is fine with the cats!
I like Nevada, I like the desert. I have never been to Branson Missouri, and would not want to live back east, but it might be a fun place to visit.

Feeding the Crew 2007-10-30 11:38:51 I was able to feed our crew this morning, though it was a big job for me. I am trying to stay off my ankle so it will heal, but I want to do as much as I can for the collies. My husband is picking up and helping out more now that I have this injury, but still it would be wonderful if we could find a foster home or two. We are looking!
Maybe there is a foster in a Orlando vacation home.. ah, but that might be too far away from us. It’s amazing how much more work only one dog can be in our house. When one finds a new home, it’s a huge lessening of work. We love them all, it’s a labor of love, but being hurt and not able to walk really cuts down on what I can do.

All is Well 2007-10-29 18:56:35 Well I’m home from Nevada. Me and my BC and my collie had a good time. It was too long of a trip, but we got some qualifying runs so that was nice.
We have all the fosters back at our house again. Tony came back today. We are working on getting a foster home set up for him. He would be great as an only dog, he would get all the attention, all the walks, and all the loves. So hopefully that’ll work out in the next week or so.
I sprained my ankle on Saturday and I’ve been told to keep off it. Joy. So I’m down for the count. I don’t think body shop supplies my human body, but maybe I need some!
Tony’s Teeth 2007-10-26 20:57:33 Well Tony went in for his teeth cleaning today but they ended up not doing it. It appears his Liver is not quite right, a couple of readings were high, and his temperature was high! So they sent him home with some meds.
Poor guy. He is staying with my friend this week. Tony really needs a foster home that he can live in until he gets adopted, we are working on that. He is such a sweetheart. His teeth cleaning is rescheduled for two weeks. But they will test his liver again before hand to see if it has normalized.
I didn’t get the exact information, I will when I get home. I just got a brief overview. But I know, beyond a doubt, he is being cared for perfectly where he is. I’m so glad I have such good dog friends! And now to find a battery to power my darn camera so I can take some pictures.
Sleepy Day 2007-11-03 11:47:26 It’s a sleepy day here at the collie house in Utah. Since I sprained my ankle last week, I need to take it easy. Still while washing clothes from my trip, cleaning the kitchen, and unpacking the car. Ugh! Well, those things may have to wait.
The collies are all snoozing today. Angel, our keeper rescue we’ve had for about six years, goes outside to bark once in a while but not too often. We have a dog door. All the dogs here now know how to use the dog door. It’s interesting that they learn to go out, first. And sometimes they don’t learn how to come in at the same time, so stay out and bark to come in.
Angel, she just likes to bark.
I would still love to have a bigger house to keep the rescues in. With real estate being in a difficult situation now, though, I think we are staying in our small house for a while.

Which Bed? 2007-11-02 14:16:57 Last Night I put a new mattress in the bedroom.. and I won’t go into why.. basically the old king is just old and smelly and junk, so it needs to go. So I put a single mattress in there, laid it on the floor, made it up for me to sleep on and went to get ready in the bathroom.
I get back into the bedroom and it’s Bianca, Levi, and Tatum on the small single bed. LOL. We have dog beds all over and they are just not good enough I tell you. The dogs like very cushy and soft things.
Such sweeties. I put Tatum in her crate, shooed Levi off, and tried to snuggle in by Bianca. Levi, of course, came back and he spooned with me while Bianca lay at my feet. I didn’t move much last night but that’s okay, I prefer dog bodies snuggled with me to moving.
With so much doggie love in our house we are not in need of any drug rehab, but we might have dog withdrawals when some of these guys find homes.
Sweet Bianca 2007-11-01 15:10:48 The last few days I have had the huge joy of snuggling with Bianca
. She is such an amazing girl. She is mellow, yet can keep up the play with Tatum. She is gorgeous too, and seems to have a smile on her face.
I am very surprised we have not had more calls on her. Maybe I need to update her petfinder information. I actually have her listed as no cats, and I need to change that because she is doing absolutely wonderful with both of our cats. Our cats are not afraid of her, and she does not chase them. if they are in the other room she will bark at them, but so will Tatum, Chase, Levi and Tony. Once Bianca is in the room with them she is fine.
Bianca is such a love bug. She has a wonderful spirit, and gentleness and calming affect on our house. We do have one inquiry on her… hopefully it will work out! She is such an amazing girl.
We won’t be needing any life insurance on her!

More on Food 2007-11-01 15:07:19 Our regular five dogs eat a raw diet… the fosters usually get a very high quality kibble. Feeding raw takes a lot of time, actually. Especially with five of them. We have to measure out their food because we don’t want anyong gaining or loosing too much weight. Healthy dogs are what we want!
Not a hoodia patch to be found in our house… but you know how that goes. All our regular dogs and foster dogs get meals appropriate to their individual metabolism and activity level. Tatum eats a lot, even though she is the smallest. Levi doesn’t eat very much, he can put on weight easily. We wish Tony would eat more consistently, but sometimes he is not interested in food. Bianca, our sweet doll girl, is eating very well.
We can’t have Lucy and Tatum eat in the same room. Tatum will, literally, launch herself at Lucy to guard her food.
Afraid of Jinxing 2007-11-07 17:36:47 I am not superstitious… well.. I’m not… I think.. really, but sometimes maybe I have some superstitious tendencies. ugh.
Anyway I don’t like to go on and on about a dog getting a new home because I really am afraid I will jinx it. I think if I’m silent, for the most part, then it will go through easier and smoother and work out well.
So, it is possible Bianca will be going to her new home on Saturday. But since I don’t want to jinx it I won’t say anything more!
She is such a complete doll and I will miss her terribly. We all will…
She may go to Idaho, where it is colder than here in the winter. She may need more than shirts to keep her warm, she might need a doggie sweater.
